— rdbrewer A former progressive explains in an open letter how RedEye turned him on to conservatism. And then on to the harder stuff, like Fox News. Now he's into Andrew Breitbart and Ann Coulter on a regular basis.
My conversion from raging liberal to conservative didn’t happen overnight, though it may appear to some as if it had. I also realize no one at Fox News cares one whit what my political affiliations are, as long as I watch. But that’s the point. After my first “Red Eye” episode, I became a Fox News junkie.
It was while visiting friends who were “Red Eye” watchers that I saw my first show. The day I returned home, the very first thing I did when I’d finished unpacking was to turn on Fox News. I started paying attention.
At first, this was solely because I wanted more information on the stories they might cover on that night’s “Red Eye.” Then, it was because I found the opinions and stories covered on FNC refreshing and, ultimately, eye-opening.
I reached out to people like Andrew Breitbart. I discovered a warm, genuine human being who was working hard to push values in which he truly believed, and to open the eyes of everyday Americans as to how they were being duped by the mainstream media. I saw Ann Coulter unedited by leftists who hated her for the first time, and discovered she was warm, witty and highly sarcastic; all traits I highly admire.
Now, Breitbart and Coulter are two of my very favorite conservative personalities.
Read the rest. He goes on to explain his RedEye withdrawal when the show is preempted by so-called "updates" and "breaking news." That is somethig I can identify with. I get irritable when RedEye isn't on. I send snarky tweets. Newsflash: It ain't an update if it goes on for an hour. Updates last, like, 30 seconds, maybe a minute at the outside. And breaking news is about new news. Not news that has been on all day. And I always find myself asking the same kinds of questions he does, "Why didn't they interrupt the O'Reilly repeat or one of the other shows?" (Not Special Report, though.)

I think this might be a good key difference for liberals and conservatives. We actually believe the things we are trying to push. Liberals are pushing things because they think they are supposed to believe them, because its "correct"

That's what I've always thought. They could put it between their two big blocks in the evening, after Greta and before O'Reilly2. I think it could compete with Leno and Conan and the bunch.
But someone pointed out they couldn't be so blue that early. Part of the fun is seeing them bleeped. But I think it would be a good tradeoff to get them on earlier.

Could definitely have competed with Conan last night. The final guest was some tattooed up spiky haired unfunny hack "comedian" and all he did was rant and rage about every single liberal talking point out there.

I saw Conan last night take the cheapest of shots at conservatives. That's it for Conan, AFAIC. What makes him think it's good for business to alienate a large percentage of his audience?

Yeah he does take shots especially at Palin. Though when Hu Jintao was here he had a line about how reporters "asked about what a man who spent his life growing up in Asia thought of America, and they asked the Chinese President too"

How about on Fox network affiliates? I don't think they've had any late night programming, other than Simpsons/syndicated reruns since the Magic Hour.

I was passing the time on facebook with a guy who comes down on the liberal side of things. He said Obama care just needed tweaking. He kept deflecting logical arguements with ad hominum attacks like Boehner the drunk or Bush did it too but I held him to the topic at hand. He finally admitted he enjoyed the debate. I told him about this place. I figured if he enjoyed getting kicked around by me he might as well get it done by real pros. Actually I think he is salvagable as he would follow me back to the initial topic.
His name is Joe. I'd ask you folks to be gentle but I know that ain't gonna happen.
This has required a lot of editing and correction so my scotch must be kicking in.

If they were to move RedEye closer to primetime it might give Beck, O'Reilly, and Fox something they never bargained for.
What do you mean? I think it could turn into a monster of a show--between the two evening blocks. One of the reasons is what you said, it's a nice counterpoint to some of the stuff on other shows.
Posted by: rdbrewer at February 03, 2011 06:11 PM (VvaIi)
I've been watching Beck steadily for a couple of years but a recent rant about how we (apparently all of us) are slaves to "stuff" and how it would destroy America made me think I'd tuned into a church revival.
Probably why his ratings are down. He needs to knock it off and do what he does best. Expose liberals and their insanity.

Beck is much better at the run-and-gun, fact-driven takedown stuff.
He has three basic shows, IMO: Run-and-gun (like the Soros shows), preachy, and interview type stuff. He really shows his brilliance when he's putting the puzzle pieces together at a lightning clip. I wish he'd stick to that.

Beck's ratings are not down. Check the cable shares. That crap was put out by media matters and picked up by everyone in the world. We went through this on some other thread. They have to make their people think their "boycott" is working. BTW, the day after the SOTU Beck's share was 1,990 the next closest was Matthews at 810.
