That picture cracks me up. It looks like adults trying to get some work done. Without the distraction of a self-absorbed brat-president. From National Journal:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., met at the White House for a meeting at 6 p.m. that lasted a little more than an hour. The meeting started an hour after the first of the Asian global markets opened. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Saturday had asked for a debt framework before then, intended to give the Asian markets time to process a last-ditch bid to ward off the market turmoil.Reid is taking a proposal for "at least" $2.5 trillion in spending cuts as part of a debt-ceiling deal, seeking Obama's approval, according to an aide.
Both Reid and Boehner are advancing plans to raise the debt ceiling. The biggest difference is that the Reid plan would increase the borrowing limit through at least the November 2012 election, while the Boehner proposal would have two stages – with the debt ceiling increase coming early next year and allowed only if matching spending cuts are enacted. Democrats have said that carrying the borrowing authorization past the election is a make-or-break provision. Republicans want two votes, saying they hope to wring more savings.
Meanwhile, conservatives are pushing for a bill to force Obama to avoid default and to pay Social Security recipients and soldiers. From The Hill:
Members of the Senate Tea Party Caucus have met with House freshmen to discuss a plan to pressure House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to bring the Full Faith and Credit Act to the floor.The legislation would direct Obama to prioritize federal payments to the nationÂ’s creditors, Social Security recipients and soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
And the White House just revealed it will go along with whatever deal that makes it through Congress.
In an accidental moment of honesty, White House Deputy Press Secretary Dan Pfeiffer today admitted on Twitter that President Obama will likely sign any debt deal Congress sends his way.
So, it looks like real progress is being made.

LEADERSHIP!!!
What? Signing whatever someone else comes up with while dancing around making work harder on everyone is pretty much "leadership" right? VICTORY!
I mean I've had bosses who did this; so this must count as a win for Obama, he finally got a deal put through in spite of his work... that's impressive, right? Look at that impressive leadership and delegation... the man has clearly won himself another vacation and some extra golf time.

Osama Obama may be a traitor and the most dangerous individual ever to make it to D.C., but the slimeball couldn't get what he wanted without Congress aiding, abetting, and issuing him free passes.

--------
But I have a math problem that I really need to solve, and I can't think of anyone beyond the Morons who can do it.
Here goes.......
Rasmussen's daily tracking poll is a rolling three day average of the preznidents popularity.
Here are the values....
Friday -15
Saturday -19
Sunday -21
Solve for Sundays stand alone, one day poll average.
I thing I come up with something like -29 for todays results to draw him from a rolling -15 average to a three day -21 average.
Is this possible,or am I overlooking something?

If they work something out and we avoid default, Obama will take credit and the press will hail him as a miracle worker who brought all the children together.
If the R's cave on anything at all, the Lightworker will get even more credit and the press will chide the R's for holding out so long and pushing the country to the brink before caving anyway.
If we default, the R's will certainly get all of the blame.
So, seems like the perfect opportunity to do the right thing and let the eventual results of actually cutting some spending and holding firm on taxes speak for themselves.

x2 = Monday
x3 = Tuesday
x4 = Wednesday
x5 = Thursday
x6 = Friday
x7 = Saturday's individual index value
You have entered the system
1/3 x1 + 1/3 x2 + 1/3 x3
= -17
1/3 x2 + 1/3 x3 + 1/3 x4
= -17
1/3 x3 + 1/3 x4 + 1/3 x5
= -15
1/3 x4 + 1/3 x5 + 1/3 x6
= -19
1/3 x6 + 1/3 x6 + 1/3 x7 = -21
This system has infinitely many solutions, which are (with parameters ri):
{
x1 = r1+6, x2 = - r2- r1-69, x3 = r2+12, x4 = r1+6, x5 = - r2- r1-63, x6 = r2, x7 = r1 }.
Been ages since I have done this, but it's an average, and you don't have the starting values, so they could be anything.
Not sure how to solve this with limits (each value has to be >0 and < 100) which would help narrow things down quite a bit. Maybe chemjeff or maet could help out or suggest a different method.
There has to be a way to narrow the field of possible results.

I am searching everywhere to find these two proposals in writing, something, anything and not just someone else's interpretation of what was said or they think was said and I can't find anything. I feel like I did when I was researching obamacare. I would like to think that they forget the looming election and do what is best for the country and not their careers but I feel so defeated by their past actions I don't think either party or the president is capable of that.
As john fund just pointed out, there is not a single school of economics that would advocate raising taxes in our precarious position yet somehow they think they can, things for them will be different. I hate this stuff where all the information comes out days later and when you read the original articles you read, nothing is the same.

Reid's plan will just kick the can past the 2012 elections. Then we're back where we started. Boehner's 2-step will potentially force much larger cuts via entitlement and tax reform than Dingy's faux $2.7 trillion. I suspect that only part of those will be in step/tier 2 and the rest will be in a tier 3.

Just watch Ts, nothing else. If the market gets spooked about US debt, that's where you'll see it.

If this is $2.5 trillion over ten years then it really isn't that big a deal either way since it is $250 billion a year which is about 1/6 of the yearly deficit. We will still be on a trajectory to double the debt in 8-10 years time.
Once Obamacare comes online it will eat up the savings all but itself.
Since there are no structural changes being made and current Congresses can't bind future ones the only thing that matters is what is cut right now in the current budget.

Posted by: passin' thru at July 24, 2011 08:10 PM (ucq49)
Yea, right. The random, ever hard to find, "spending cuts." 2..5 trillion today will be something like 8 billion by the time people really read the bill, which will be after it's passed. Real work indeed.
