— DrewM Wow, this has been a bit under the radar but if it's true, it could be a very big deal.
Pakistani officials say President Obama's national security advisor summoned Pakistan's ambassador to the White House Monday evening to deliver a threat from the president: Release Raymond Davis, an American being held in Lahore for killing two Pakistanis, or face the consequences.National Security Advisor Tom Donilon told Ambassador Husain Haqqani, according to two Pakistani officials involved in negotiations about Davis, that the U.S. will kick Haqqani out of the U.S., close U.S. consulates in Pakistan, and cancel an upcoming visit by Pakistan's president to Washington, if Davis, a U.S. embassy employee, is not released from custody by Friday.
The outlines of the threat were confirmed to ABC News by a senior U.S. official, who was not authorized to speak on the record. A White House spokesperson, Tommy Vietor, declined comment.
Calling Pakistan an "ally" is stretching the term to near the breaking point but clearly it's one of the most important relationships the US has. This would be a step or two short of cutting off official diplomatic relations.
Davis is in Pakistan on a US diplomatic passport and has been held for two weeks following the shooting.
I never would have thought the Obama administration had the stones for this kind of threat. It's not the kind of thing you can bluff at, either this guy is turned over tomorrow or the crap has to hit the fan. Given how deftly the Obama administration has handled the Egyptian crisis, I'm sure everything will be fine.
Added: Interesting discussion about whether or not Davis officially has diplomatic immunity. There's some disagreement about his paperwork and whether he was officially recognized as a diplomat.
It makes you wonder exactly who this guy is. Why would the administration be willing to go to the mattresses for this guy and risk blowing up the relationship with Pakistan?

Slamming that country as much as he has, singling them out for wrath, has never made sense to me as a foreign-policy thing. But back in the day, Obama's Paki coke buddy called him an "Uncle Tom" one time, and that's exactly the kind of petty shit I think motivates him.
Oh. And Obama's just-some-girl-from-Kansas mother also worked for the Asian Development Bank (a UN/World Bank thingy) in Pakistan when he was little—as random Kansas girls tend to do. Since that's such a normal item any random teen-mom hick from nowhere might have on her resume, it can't possibly be a clue to anything about Obama. Or about anything.

The State Department is claiming diplomatic immunity, so I don't know where you're getting your information. Also, there's every indication that the two Pakistanis that were shot were bad guys -- where Davis ought to be in trouble is that when he was driven off, the embassy car ran over (and killed) a bystander.
That the Pakistani government is after him for self-defense instead just shows how screwed up they are.

Oh for the love of God. You can't be that stupid. Pakistan is an ally. Name one ally of the USA that Obama has not been willing to destroy that relationship with. The only time Obama cares about not hurting a relationship is when he is talking about an enemy. For them he will do anything.

Davis got bagged because he did a 'no-no'...infidels don't stand up to muzzies extracting 'payment', let alone kill them.
Rules to game in that part of the world: muzzies can beat, rape, rob and murder non-muzzies with impunity. Non-muzzies DO NOT RESIST. PERIOD. Being left alive is considered a bonus...and what passes for generosity in that part of the world.
Davis didn't play the game properly, hence his ass is in jail.
BTW-the US military plays with a different rulebook. AH-64's and JDAMs trump muzzie sensibilities, that and massed small arms fire.
Muzzies understand that level of conversation very well.
As to what Øbaka will do?
Time, unfortunately, will tell.

donald trump has come back from bankruptcy three times. I think since the situation of our economy, even among the well meaning is so daunting that what we need in there, in the presidency is a business man with bankruptcy experience. I personally don't want any professional politicians lawyers former lawmakers, current lawmakers, running for the office.....they all talk a lot with no action. Over the years, trump has proven that he is not all talk and he's done plenty of actions.

The "maid" of honor passed out before the vows even got started, a gum-chewing Paki friend, in a micro-mini-skirt, scuttled over to hold the "maid's" legs in the air....spread-eagled for everyone to see....it just got better and better.
Little D'oh Boy was in my lap and said, "Mommy, I'm scared."
During the reception, when the flowers were thrown, the Paki cousins fought over the flowers, rolling on the floor, dresses over their waists, like a pack of pit bulls.

That is likely why he was targeted, deliberately (no random street robbery) and why he shot it out with his would-be captors. Did not want to end up like Daniel Pearl.
IF the Pakistanis hold him, as a holder of a diplomatic passport (which State, no strong defender of America or Americans, says he was), not only is it open season on all US diplomats everywhere, BUT ...
ALL HIS SECRETS GET SPILLED.
Which Obama is desperate to avoid. He does not want Osama or Zawahari gloating on video over the guy's dead body and reciting all the links and secret alliances and such (so they get rolled up by jihadis killing them) and Pakistan being basically now totally AQ/Jamiyah-al-Islamiyah/Taliban.
THAT is why Obama would go to the mat. To keep a bad situation from being "Why did Obama let Pakistan fall to AQ?"

Maybe so. I notice Iran isn't getting this treatment over the two Americans who went on trial this week. They've been imprisoned since they crossed into Iran from Kurdish Iraq in 2009. He wanted to borrow money to buy his GF a gift for Valentines day but even funnier is that it turns out another friend was doing the same thing and when he was stopped for a ticket in riverhead he said to the cop, "she's real, honey say hello to the officer, and tried to throw his voice like a ventriloquist". He stopped when the cop said he could recommend that he have a psych exam.

A Paki uncle yelled at my f-i-l, "Hey, Pops, get me a sweet tea." And my elegant f-i-l scurried to fill the douchebag's order.

If they lose the paperwork, it ain't the diplomat's fault.
If they didn't want him in the country as a diplomat, they could have made him persona non grata at any time.
And it doesn't matter if it is against the law to carry a pistol in Pakistan. A diplomat can carry anything anywhere, regardless. The second a diplomatic passport came out, the local police should have released him, or returned him to the Embassy, at the diplomat's option.
If his actions angered the government, they can demand he leave Pakistan. Period.
What Pakistan is doing is technically an act of war.

I know of no one in the SF groups I would not trust. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and I hope he gets home safely. Regardless of Obama's scheming.
Sometimes it's about filling in the blanks, and sometimes it's about trust.

They should, but the WH wants to make a point of getting this person (operative?) back. The problem is that once the threat is made public, Obama has to follow through if this man isn't released, else he looks even weaker.
50 bucks says Obama folds.

I may be wrong, but didn't the Paks spill the beans? That makes me think this guy will not be seen alive again. The US can't be seen as winning this one, especially since Egypt told us to kiss off.

Yeah. I had a spazz-attack on the up escalator. It now looks like I have a second knee growing under the regular one. Worst part of the whole deal was that my grilled-cheese-and-bacon-on-rye went soggy while I tended the wounds.

Amazing how long it took them to realize they'd been invaded. Then again, with our MBM, we won't realize it until the star and crescent flies over the capital.
Coexist my ass.
Perhaps they should start looking for the munitions stockpiled in the mosque basement. Or the big wooden horse they rolled under the L'arc de Triomphe.

I've studied this case intently over the past week or so, and have concluded the only cure for this advanced case of acute Whinylittlebitchitis is a regular regimen of Manthefuckup. Take 2 proxies and don't call me in the morning. A daily dose of DynamicIP can also reduce the swelling significantly.
Where should I send the bill?

The State Department has been kinda fuzzy about what job this guy, Raymond Davis, does. And it so happens that Raymond has the situation awareness to notice two guys are following him on a chaotic Pakistani street. And, he's packing a gun. Isn't THAT unusual? And, in addition to that, when these two armed guys attack him, he shoots both of them dead.
Now, sit back and think about that. How many times have you heard of a guy being ambushed by two guys, yet coming out the winner? Not many freaking times, pal.
Not only does Davis draw his gun in time, he doesn't clutch up. It's common in gunfights like this for most, even all, the shots to miss. However, Raymond doesn't miss. Not only does he shoot both his assailants, but kills them dead. That's some fine combat shooting.
And in the photos, Raymond Davis looks like a fit young man. He's no fat, effete bureaucrat on a lunch break.
It looks like there's more to this than a street robbery gone wrong. Maybe Davis is some kind of black ops guy with official cover at the embassy. Maybe the two robbers are not robbers at all but something else entirely.
