Romney Proves Delusions Aren't Just For Democrats
— andy

You know, I'd have more respect for him if he'd repudiate his piece of crap healthcare law. But noooo, he doubles triples down on it.

Mitt Romney, trying to turn a political lemon into lemonade, predicted that his record of enacting a controversial Massachusetts health care law would be "one of my biggest assets" in a campaign debate against President Obama.

Right, Mitt. It's such a phenomenal success.

Oh, wait. It's not.

Five years after Gov. Mitt Romney signed Massachusetts’ groundbreaking health care legislation, it has met its chief goal of extending insurance coverage to most residents — but with costs rising faster than inflation, lawmakers face the challenge of how to pay for it all.

Although the law has extended coverage, it has done little to fundamentally change the way consumers shop for health care, which analysts say is the only lasting solution to ballooning costs.

The current occupant of the White House has proven good at ignoring reality. I don't know why we'd want to continue this, given the problems we face.

I only got to see Romney and Paul today but I loved this style of debate. If it can even be called a debate. It's much better than the stupid game show style debates where candidates get 30 seconds to answer a question.

I really hope that this format catches on.

I agree with Andy's assessment about the healthcare, but otherwise I thought Mitt did fairly well today. He's a good speaking and can be very good at saying nothing but having it sound like something, which is an asset in a presidential race.

I'm still on the Perry bandwagon and am disappointed he didn't show up today, but I guess it was for a legitamite reason.

O/T--the Salon piece was incredibly hilarious.  My favorite part was when the author was whining about if only Obama had listened to liberal luminaries like Paul Krugman instead of ignoring them...

Incidentally, the comments blew my mind.  Sure, the viewpoints here are slanted (obviously in a manner I like, but I don't pretend that everything I read here is unvarnished reality), but they're just plain batsh*t crazy in a liberal echo-chamber--and they eat their own at the drop of a hat; at least here we subsist on a diet of trolls and hobos.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the race war has already begun, fanned in no small part by our current Presidunce.  I doubt that any Republican candidate will have the cojones (see what I did there) to stand up and take a principled stand against illegal immigration for fear of upsetting our past, present, and future illegal immigrants.

Posted by: Hrothgar at September 05, 2011 05:32 PM (i3+c5)

37 Romney supporters counting on hold-outs ultimately backing their man:

“Romney’s been out working that fundraising crowd for years. Most people who are gonna be for Romney, pre-primary, have already signed up,” he continued. “I sense some people who have been sitting it out going to Perry, but how many of those outside Texas do that will help determine how successful he can be.”

Romney supporters are counting on that line of thinking being flawed. Their hope is that Republicans who have all but prayed for a different candidate than Romney — from Daniels to John Thune to Paul Ryan — will eventually reconcile themselves to the former Massachusetts governor as their safer general election bet.

The expectation, said one Romney fundraiser, is that “a lot of the money people, these pro-business money guys, will probably be more favorable to somebody like Mitt than they would be to somebody like Perry.

No you're not.

If the Republicans start talking like they are actually going to do what needs to be done to avert us from fiscal catastrophe, you can kiss the election goodbye.

Even if they win everything, with the best, most conservative people out there, I doubt they have the political will to to decimate the spending and entitlements and face the rioting mobs.

Perry's position on the border fence needs to be looked at in context of his position as Governor of Texas.

Our border with Mexico is a river.  The Rio Grande.

Where that stupid fence has been built the government has violated the property rights of land owners across the state because it's been built two miles away from the Rio Grande and right through farms.  The Border Fence at Texas, defending America from Texas farmers!

When the fence was proposed, they should have proposed it from California to New Mexico.  You could have gotten one long fence in that case instead of randomly built sections.  Texas has almost 1300 miles of river between us and Mexico to necessitates the need for a different approach to border security.

Nov. 17th 2012

[AP] In a bid to reach across the aisle after his narrow reelection victory and amid the continuing accusations of voting irregularities in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, President Obama has appointed former GOP primary contender Mitt Romney to be the nation's first "Administrator General" of the universal heath-care program commonly known as "Obamacare".

Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at September 05, 2011 08:45 PM (EeYDk)

74 In office I suspect he'd do the classic businessman/politician audit of the situation and declare ObyCare (etc) unsustainable, kick the can down the road rather than be accused of murdering Granny. Good heavens. The Presidency is not a dictatorship. Congress has to undo this shit. They won't, given the political atmosphere and composition of Congress, even if the Senate becomes marginally Republican with a Republican White House. At any rate Mitt has his head deep in the sand. Obastardcare is here to stay, people. It was a mortal wound to the republic.

Posted by: George Orwell what knows Obama is a stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure at September 05, 2011 08:55 PM (AZGON)

75 No, Obamacare was not a moral wound to the Republic. And it WILL be repealed. If Obamacare is going to turn out anything like Romneycare, it's model--and I already live under the latter system--it won't be all that hard to get 60 votes to repeal, because the cataclysm will be obvious from the MA example. Higher costs, fewer doctors, longer waits for doctor visits (to weeks or months in wait time), etc. So we can, what, cover a bunch of people who were already "covered" by simply going to the Emergency Room (which they STILL do, because they can't find a primary care physician to accept them)? It's a lose-lose-lose. Easy pitch to sell.
