Ron Paul Walks Out of CNN Interview When Asked About Newsletters
— Ace

Transcript at the link, video below.

“It’s legitimate, it’s legitimate. These things are pretty incendiary,” Borger pressed.

“Because of people like you,” Paul riffed.

Is that his actual, considered position? That the newsletters are incendiary only due to a Liberal Media making them so?

He actually has made that claim before. When these first came to light, he did not disclaim authorship. He simply said you had to read them all "in context" and not seize upon any particular sentence, but read everything he's said "in context."

So he has in fact attempted to claim that these newsletters, like the Ron Paul Survival Report (!!!), were not actually a problem at all as far as substance.

Just this darned liberal media (and only this darned liberal media) making a stink about it.

More: Ron Paul endorsed Cynthia McKinney in 2008 (did you know that?) and yes, Ron Paul gives sneaky little-shout-outs to Truthers.

33 CNN is, like nearly everything else on TV that doesn't help you become a better wing-shooter, pernicious nonsense. Note how the info-babe stomps all over Rep. Paul's point about the Federal Government has too much power, and dispenses favors in a self-perpetuating loop to the connected. I literally cannot believe, like Patton after the relief of Bastogne, that God has left us here, where the candidate most oriented to our God-given Freedom in opposition to a Red-diaper Baby president, a smiling jesus of a President, also happens to be an anti-Semite. 51 I don't think I ever saw a CNN interview of Obama like that.

Yeah, Republicans always get soft-ball questions.  That's because CNN is a corporation, and corporations are right-wing.  Also, corporate.

In contrast, I had to defend what a pastor allegedly said, whether or not I was there, which really demonstrates the right-wing media bias we Democrats have to endure.  It's an uphill battle.

Walking off the set was not an option, for me.  I had no choice but to tackle the issue head-on with a historic world-changing speech.  That's what Ron Paul should have done.  But then again, there's a reason I have a Nobel Prize, and he doesn't.

Okay, then let Ron Paul, the Only Man Courageous Enough To Save America, begin that conversation, forthrightly. There are many Paul supporters who don't know about this stuff (and try their best to disbelieve it). 108 Here's what bugs me. There are racists in the party, of course. There are racists in the Democratic party too. I toss that in for balance. But there are racists in the GOP, surely. The racists within the GOP wish the rest of the people in the party to effectively vouch for them, and swear there are no racists in the party. This aids them. Of course, it aids us, too, as we can't really have The Racist Party stand as our identity, but it aids them, too. So we have a mutual interests in pretending there aren't any racists in the party. What is bothering me is how difficult the racists make this job, by insisting on blurting out their racism. So we have the spectacle of Paulbots running into one of my Paul threads to lecture me on the fact that blacks are simply stupid and always will be, and we need to "address" this somehow, but they also want the rest of us to take to market the assertion that no one in the party believes such a thing. Sure would be easier if you weren't always jonesing to discuss the one "issue" that seems to consume so much of your mental processing. I don't even make this argument anymore, that we're not racist, by the way. I tried for years, but people want to keep pushing it, and I guess I just got sick of lying. So, they win on that. We are the party then that is MOSTLY not racist. Its not as catchy, but at least it's true. William F. Buckley famously purged NR of the Birchers (conspiracy-obsesssed idiots) and racists and soon the party followed him. However, those people have always remained in the party, largely, or at least crossed over to the party to vote for president on occasion. They went out to the fringe right or whatever, but they occasional called themselves conservatives. But they have always resented having their party "stolen" from them, and they have always wanted it back. Now is their moment, they think, and Ron Paul is their champion: He will take the party back from the Buckleyite neocons and fainthearts who stole it from the true heart of the party, which is the old disreputable alliance of those drawn to conspiracy theories to explain a world they don't understand and those drawn to racialist lore to buttress their egos.

In fact, his economic plans are probably the most solid part of his platform, because the stuff that's has the best chance of happening happens to be fairly good stuff. The other cranky stuff like getting rid of the Fed and returning to the gold standard and reading the entrails of a chicken during the State of The Union just won't fly, no matter who holds the house and senate.

190 In many ways I have lived an unbelievable life; the topless bar where I worked as a bouncer was Gigi's Cabaret. One of the day time dancers there was stage named Robin, you probably know her better as Anna Nicole Smith. I got to see the whole Anna Nicole Smith - J. Howard Marshall romance in real time on the night shift.

The reason I bring that up is that in the 1980's my brother had a video production company. We did some video work for a first term congressman from the Alvin area and wound up being invited over to his house. You guessed it; Dr. Ron Paul.

195 Why would I do that, Your GOP Elites? Just... because? Political affiliation is a voluntary association. The Paulbots have consistently tried to use flash-mob tactics to get Paul-type candidates on ballots. And freep polls, and such. The plan is to use an animated but small majority of people to force a candidate upon a broader electorate which they do not want, and then trust that the broader electorate will support Paul, because Now They Have To. But I don't have to. This is the big mistake in your plan. I am not beholden to support anyone. You wish to inflict, by procedural flashmob nonsense, an ideology on a large group of people without going through the bother of actually persuading them to support your cause. You want their support via the fait accompli -- now we're stuck, so we'd better get on board. But I don't have to agree to do that. Ron Paul's foreign policy would be far, far more leftwing that Barack Obama's. Thus, he not only completely fails to bring the thrid leg of the conservative stool, he in fact makes the Barack Obama the "conservative" candidate on that stool. Why would I go along with that? I've asked Paulbots to explain to me that if I could gimmick the system such as to force an extremist pro-choice (partial birth abortion supporting) candidate on the party, if they would just go along with that. No, they wouldn't. But they're pretty sure we'll bend. Because they think we're weak. Don't mistake temperance for weakness, bub. If your idea of strength is just doing kooky things, well, I can be strong in that way too. Ron Paul has failed to convince me, utterly, on one of my top three issues. In fact, he persuades me to select Barack Obama as my choice -- the guy who doesn't cry like a bitch about killing bin Ladin.

And the other part of it that Paul's core supporters include a mix of doctrinaire libertarians, anti-war pacifists, conspiracy theorists who know Paul is one of their own, people who are just so mad they want to upset the applecart completely, and people who just want Bircherism/racism to be acceptable again, because damnit, we need to have "this discussion" at some point. The outtakes I've read from the newsletters don't sound very racist. Its a statistical fact that blacks commit most of the crimes when you take into account that they are 12% of the population, and commit 50% of the total crimes in this country. Or that black men are 6% of the population but 50% of the prison population.

I've only read about 5 snippets of the newsletters, but don't see anything that isn't fact, or assumptions made from the facts.

Are there any openly anti-semetic or racist quotes of Paul's that I can use when arguing with this dude? Or is it all second party newsletter stuff that ronulans can just disavow or dismiss? Something substantial and solid, people!

265 I personally don't like Rons position on freedom. God dictates our freedom, not man....

Don't forget Ron Paul's buddy from Iraq Veterans Against the War that he endorsed for Congress in 2010 who went to work for Russian state TV when he lost and who just got fired soon after promoting a Ron Paul fundraiser on the air.

He just keep such wonderful company.

267 I would rather burst into flames that voting for Mr. Fourth Reich. Plus, why are Ron Paul people seriously always in your face about their guy. They are lunatics, the racists/crazies of the right. The resurgence of the birch society birther clans... #(($&# Paul. I will vote for anyone over Paul...

268 this one is really disgusting, and possibly could be the straw that broke the camels back: Ron Paul and his viewpoint on the " Jewish question" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O285w-9Qr0s

269 Romney would have been crushed had he attempted reelection.

MA actually had a string of GOP govs, but Romney's legacy, beyond liberalism, was an end to that.

He endorsed a lot of legislative candidates in 2007.  Every single one lost.  Romney would have been crushed.  MA has lost all respect for him after he campaigned so passionately about how he wasn't insincere to support abortion rights and strong gun control and then shamelessly passionately went the other way.

A Republican who establishes the rightmost mainstream view as Romneycare and a $75 gun tax is useless.  The middle will see the democrats holding truer to their views, and the left will prefer the democrats regardless, and the right is just plain despondent.

Look, if someone likes Romney's legacy that's fine.  Free country.  Let's just not make the GOP that way.  The GOP nominee needs to think the individual mandate is a terrible idea, and needs to support gun rights, and have a great record on judicial appointments (or at least appear to have one).

There are four candidates who blow Romney out of the water on this.

270 What really makes me vomit is, that this bizarre candidate is supported by "conservatives" (who voted Obama of course) like Andrew Sullivan, Conor Friedersdork and Dave Weigel, who endlessly go on about the extremist, fringy, racist GOP and then push a GOP candidate who is indeed extremist, fringy, racist.

New argument from the institute of political correctness. Ron Paul endorsed Cynthia Mckinney because he hates black people and gets all his arguments from Stormfront!!!!

Honestly, I'm disappointed, I found this website an interesting resources for factual material, relating to the precipitate economic decline and financial blackhole of the U.S. and other western countries. I thought you actuall believed it, but when a Presidential candidate comes along who actually does believe it and advocates the sort of policies necessary to avoid it, you go for the full Bork treatment.

And I fear all the stuff about "Doom" was just for show really. It's really just about war all along. We need to go to war with _____ to save democracy and support our troops and anyone who says otherwise is a John Bircher crank. I happen to agree that Ron Paul errs too far in the other direction, but I'm starting to get the idea that Ronal Reagan would be denounced as a dangerous isolationist in this neocon echo chamber.
