— DrewM Rick Perry makes it official....www.rickperry.org
Jim Pethokoukis has excerpts from his upcoming announcement speech at Red State. A taste.
"I will work every day to make Washington, D.C. as inconsequential in your lives as I can."
A lot of people will try to make Perry out to be George W. Bush but W. would have never said that. In fact, Bush said quite the opposite ("When someone is hurting, government has got to move.").
Below the fold, Rick Perry, "Why I'm Running"
What I learned in my 20’s traveling the globe as an Air Force pilot, our current president has yet to acknowledge in his 50’s – that we are the most exceptional nation on the face of the earth. As Americans, we believe freedom is a gift from God, and government’s prime function is to defend it. We don’t see the role of government as a nanny state, and we recognize there is no government money that wasn’t once earned through the sweat and toil of private citizens.
ThatÂ’s why we object to an Administration that sees its role as spending our childrenÂ’s inheritance on failed economic theories that have given us record debt and left far too many unemployed, threatening not only our economy, but our security. Our reliance on foreign creditors and sources of energy not only compromises our national sovereignty, but jeopardizes our national future.
AmericaÂ’s place in the world is in peril, not only because of disastrous economic policies, but from the incoherent muddle known as our foreign policy. Our president has thumbed his nose at traditional allies such as Israel and Great Britain.
We will not sit back and accept our current miseryÂ…because a great country requires a better directionÂ…because a renewed nation requires a new president. ThatÂ’s why, with faith in God, the support of my family, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of America, I am a candidate for President of the United States.
And I will work every day to make Washington, D.C. as inconsequential in your lives as I can.
As governor of Texas I have led based on a few guiding principles. One, donÂ’t spend all the money. Two, keep taxes low and under control. Three, keep regulations fair and predictable. And four, reform the legal system so frivolous lawsuits donÂ’t paralyze employers that are trying to create jobs.
Over ten years, we have followed this recipe of fiscal restraint to produce the strongest economy in the nation. While millions of jobs have been lost over the last decade nationwide, hundreds of thousands of jobs have been added in Texas. Texas is home to one in 12 Americans, and yet since June of 2009, we have created more than four in ten American jobs.
The change we seek will never emanate out of WashingtonÂ…it must come from the windswept prairies of Middle AmericaÂ…the farms and factories across this great landÂ…the hearts and minds of God-fearing Americans who will not accept a future that is less than our pastÂ…who will not be consigned a fate of less freedom in exchange for more government.
It is up to usÂ…to this present generation of AmericansÂ…to take a stand for freedomÂ…to send a signal to Washington that we are taking the country back from the grips of central planners who would control our healthcare, spend our treasure and micro-manage our businesses.
My mission as your president will be to get America working again!
With GodÂ’s help, and your courage, we will take our country back. I hope you will take a moment to join the team and consider a donation to the campaign.
Thank you, and God bless America.
BTW- I don't know how much Perry is like Reagan or even think such comparisons are useful. I just couldn't resist playing off Monty's last thread.

Mr. President, your private jet to Martha's Vineyard is ready! Hope you have a joyous time! Is there anything else I can do?
The optics alone are enough to cause a brain hemorrhage. How this line of attack is not seen as laughable is obscene

This announcement is anti-climactic.
The assumption of his running has been factored in his poll numbers for several weeks now.
Those numbers have already begun to flatten out, as he and Mitt compete for the same voters. Perry does not poach Palin's voters.
Bottom line: Enjoy the next few days, SuperRicksters!; this is as good as its going to get. He'll be following Bachmann's steadily downward trend soon enough.
But I would like to thank SuperRick! for trimming Romey's numbers considerably and pulling him back to the pack.
Now they're both perfectly set up for Palin.
Funnee.

Copy editors' vote: lost. Twice. This is bad enough to make them all communists.
And using "Middle America" is a bad idea if you're not writing for lefties. Linguistic history lesson deleted, because no one cares, but—HuffPo has a "Middle America" tag. Enough said? Should be. You can go there and click it and see what stories it leads to, if you don't get my drift.
Otherwise, not bad.

When they rip Barry's fingers off the doorsill of the White House, I am going to be all kinds of intolerably obnoxious to liberals about it. I'm talking driving motherfuckers into the darkest pits of depression and suicidal ideation.
There will be gloating, pink bellies, purple nurples, endzone dances and beer farts aimed in their direction. And if they attempt to walk away, I'll just follow after them and crank that shit up to eleventy.
Payback time, motherfuckers. I don't have to prove that I'm better than you. I already know it. It's going to be punishment and revenge time.

Outstanding. Finally a candidate I can vote for without feeling like I need to take multiple showers. Don't like any of the other candidates, especially Romney who, IMO, is another McCain. I still think McCain was bought off and threw the election to allow georgy soros's puppet, the lyin king (love that) to "rule from day one”. Perhaps a Perry/Palin ticket is in the works. Now wouldn't that just send the liberals/progressives/socialists/democraps (but I repeat myself) in to foaming mouth hysteria. Oh its going to be fun watching the crash/burn of the hopey/change express. GO RICK GO!!

What he'll do is do a high-profile tour, cultivate allies and bypass some of the power brokers in the party. I think that's a very good thing.
