Based on the picture below, it was more interesting than I was expecting.
Thanks to gg.
By the Way: This Saturday Night Live sketch about Kate Middleton meeting the Queen and Prince Philip is very funny.
Worth watching, even if you don't usually like SNL. Especially if you like Michael Caine impressions.

Ha! Seriously, it was a beautiful wedding with a beautiful bride. My husband simply would roll his eyes as he saw me watching the DVR this morning. Real men don't get it, and that's ok, as I don't get NASCAR.
Shep Smith made a complete uncouth buffoon of himself on FOX. I know, nothing new. FOX needs to fire him. I think he was drunk and not funny. As I said in a comment below, he made a comment that he knew Jonathan Hunt has always wanted to ride in the open carriage. There was a long pause, and Jonathan Hunt said something like "Are you implying I am the Queen of England?" I was hoping Jonathan would then say, "But Shep, that is your role."
I think there needs to be a link discussing Princess Beatrice's "hat." What the heck was that? Part of the top of a fence? A mini-satellite dish?

He may not have been invited to the royal wedding, but President Obama didn't miss it.
White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Friday that Obama, like many curious Americans, watched some of the wall-to-wall television coverage of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.
The Obamas didn't seem to harbor any hard feelings about not scoring an invite to Wills and Kate's big day.

Ugh. I've been tired of the meaningless "Royal Family" stuff since the neverending Princess "land mines are bad" Diana coverage.
I understand the appeal- all our lives we've been exposed to fairy tales, stories, movies and TV shows that have romanticized kings, princes and princesses. However, the "Royal Family" are nothing more than figurehead tourist attractions. They have no real authority or power; they're just an obsolete relic of worse times.

I don't care how they try and spin the "not a state occasion" angle, I believe that the fact the Obamas weren't invited was indeed a first rate snub.
The bride's dress was amazing. I am very happy it was so classic and elegant and I hope it ushers in a new age of bridal fashion in the US because I am getting sick of seeing waaaay too heavy women in strapless wedding gowns.
And somebody should have dressed Andrew's daughters better since they were sitting right behind the Queen. They looked ridiculous. Though the one girl kind of resembles Billie Piper's character in "Secret Diary of a Call Girl"

Anybody ever wonder why America is weak and is the laughing stalk of the world?
Simple:
Just look at how much coverage a Royal Wedding gets in a country that doesn't really respect us compared to the coverage of any of the real problems that are happending right now. It is Prime example of why this country will never, and should never vote a Woman into the most powerful executive position in the World.

In addition to being ashamed of our country, Moochelle is also ashamed of that whitey place called Great Britain. I am sure she is po'd not to be involved, as is Barfy.
I cringe at the thought of the WH UnPrecedenteds at the wedding today. Barry would be preening for the camera with his regal chin tilt and bowing to the Saudi dudes. Moochelle would be resplendent in a horror that would make Beatrice look normal, and fist bumping the Queen. I would never be the same.

Worse times? For who? I'd be happy to go back to the mid-late 1800's and live under one of the Western European monarchies. 10% income tax sounds a hell of a lot better than the ass raping I get thanks to the democratically elected despotism in this nation. Such a monarch wasn't too concerned about how much fat was in your diet, or whether you offended ethnic minorities when you spoke, or much else about how you ran your own damn business - so long as you didn't try to threaten his rule. He was interested in running his country, which he intended to preserve in tact, and maybe glorify yet further, for his heir. Plus when a monarch buys art, it's art. Not bullshit masquerading as art as is puchased by the oh-so-enlightened democratic governments of our day.
As for the French, the defects in their monarchy were the result of a cultural deficiencies in France itself. They had the monarchs that their culture would naturally produce.
If you think the Queen doesn't have behind-the-scenes power, think again. Even putting aside the fact that she's richer than god and could buy and sell most of the legislators, if she ever wanted to cause a governmental crisis she would have little trouble doing so. There are still formal monarchal powers that are never exercised, but still could be. Regardless, the monarchy is one of the few symbols of legitimate continuity the British government currently maintains.

Across shoulders, back, down arms. I was thinking why in the hell would you not wear a sleeved gown? It was seriously tacky.

Either that or a cunning marketing conspiracy by 3M to sell double-sided tape.
I think it would have to be double-sided duck tape to keep some of them in those dresses.

I know, it is always shocking to me when I attend black tie auctions and there are women there in strapless gowns with their skin just covered in tattoos. Though I did see one once, her back tattoo was so lovely that it almost looked like part of the backless gown.

Katie C. still managed to work MO into the conversation. She went out of her way to point out that MO wore a dress by the same designer to a recent state affair and caused tongues to wag.

1. All of the ceremonial, visiting with teams and scholarship winners, prize awards, entertainment, etc. is handled by the quenn. That means whoever is head of the government doesn't fill up his residence with parties and events like Motown spectaculars and Cinco de Mayo and such stuff.
2. Things like State dinners are handled by the palace, not by people like Denise Richards.
3. Politicians who want votes cannot bribe people by inviting them to dinner at Buckingham Palace. The Queen invites whom SHE wants.
4. Ceremonies are left to people who have done it for a thousand years. This is why we did not see a lack of decorum in this wedding. The biggest scandal is Princess Beatrice's hat. (Also, I noticed all of the ladies worse stockings. Michelle Obama, take notice!)
5. Divorced from the star quality of the monarchy, British politics is a bit more on issues than personalities, unike our system (see Barrack Obama, Donald Trump, etc.).
The monarchy is the symbol of britain. If you had watched BBC America today, you would have seen a people PROUD of their country and wishing the couple well. Even the liberal types were there, waving the Union Jack.
The Queen holds their nation together. I don't mock it at all, because in our country, the person who holds that position is a president, and most times they cannot get half of the people to support them, and it makes us a far nastier people because of it.

Charlemagne was hardly a defective monarch.
I'd rather criticize the French trait of arrogance that breeds sabotage, and a perverse intellectual penchant for authoritarianism. France evolved from the Holy Roman Empire to a Monarchy to an Empire to a Monarchy to a Socialist Democracy which is what it was during WWII when the French Resistance were communists fighting the fascists for ultimate power.
The removal of the French Monarchy (as a century later with the Russian Revolution) was accomplished through the discontent of starving peasants and middle class but galvanized by men plotting to juxtapose themselves in the monarch's place to usurp the same authoritarian powers over the masses. Consider Rousseau vs. his American contemporaries who became the Founders of our Nation. But then, consider well F. Bastiat before condemning all French as culturally deficient.
Europeans never truly revoked authoritarianism, despite the revolutionary propaganda battle cry for Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. The masses inevitably left governance to their "betters" even from within their social "class" caste.
Mark Steyn was reflecting on the American people's devolution into that numb mindset of trusting Ivy League elitists as the "best candidates" when of all people, the elitists deserve the least trust given their record in office and their disdain for the Tea Party common people as anything but pawns to be played and abused. The distinction of style does not qualify a distinction in substance, as if attracting more flies with honey than with vinegar means that there's a different end result awaiting the attracted flies.

Thatcher is very much still alive, though in poor health. Watching the wedding, I kept thinking back to the Falklands in 83. Back when the Brits were able to stage and win their own wars.
I was watching the Queen while they were all singing "God Save the Queen", wondering if she knows the words. Not like she ever has to sing it.

A sign of classy is the "tattoo cover-up makeup" now on sale at bridal houses. There are many brides, as mentioned above, who let it all hang out when it should be hidden from view.
I just saw a photo of The Won's putting their hoodoo voodoo mark on today's space shuttle launch (scrubbed until Monday). Even Granny was there. Moochelle wore a white teeshirt with a parachute-type billowing back and capris. I look better when I clean the house. I am not sure, but think she left her wighat at home. Barky was also in his casual Friday clothes with his sleeves rolled up, ready to work on the shuttle. If his luck holds for the shuttle like his basketball brackets, well, I am a bit concerned for the astronauts. I am wondering if they will all return for Monday's launch at our expense on Air Force One. This has not been a good day for Obummer and teevee.

I think so too. And I noticed she slightly bowed her head when William saluted as they rode through Horse Guards, so she respects the military. Good for her.

My wife pointed that out. She did it every time he saluted the military. I counted 6 times.

Yes, the horse thought it was the Ascot races with all the hats on the ladies, with the exception, of course, of Beatrice's antlers. Great day for the UK.
One person commented on the Daily Mail that Posh looked like a suicidal air hostess. That woman is going to break something in her shoes. Her pained expression is due to bunions or needing a sandwich.

Yep. I will admit to having a passing interest in wedding dresses (thank you, TLC) and it is very difficult to find dresses that are with straps or sleeves that aren't part of a "modesty" collection. They are making a slow comeback, though, if you look in the right places. Plus, some brides need sleeves for church, so they wear a shawl which gets taken off for the reception, leaving them strapless in the end anyway.
Everything you see on TV is strapless. Ok, maybe 95%. That's still high. We don't need to return to giant monster sleeves, but it would be nice to see something original again. It is all part of the fashion cycle of what's in and out, but it is heavily slanted, especially in the wedding sector.

I think the point for these girls is that they are proud of their tattoos and want to show them off. Nevermind that most of them just look horrible like that.

The QueenÂ’s Tears
And global resolve against terrorism.
By Mark Steyn, a columnist for Britain's Daily Telegraph and Canada's National Post.
September 17, 2001 12:30 p.m.
The foreign leader who said it best last week was the Queen, though she didn't really say a word. I have met Her Majesty from time to time (I am one of her Canadian subjects), and to put it at its mildest, for those with a taste for American vernacular politics, she can be a little stiff: The Queen stands on ceremony and she has a lot of ceremony to stand on. But on Thursday, for the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, she ordered the Coldstream Guards to play "The Star-Spangled Banner" — the first time a foreign anthem had been played at the ceremony. The following day something even more unprecedented happened: At Britain's memorial service for the war dead of last Tuesday, the first chords of "The Star-Spangled Banner" rumbled up from the great organ at St Paul's Cathedral, and the Queen did something she's never done before — she sang a foreign national anthem, all the words. She doesn't sing her own obviously ("God Save Me"), but she's never sung "La Marseillaise" or anything else, either; her lips never move.
And at that same service she also sang "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic," for the second time in her life — the first was at the funeral of her first prime minister, Winston Churchill. On Friday, she fought back tears. When she ascended the throne, Harry Truman was in the White House. The first president she got to know was Eisenhower, back in the war, when he'd come to the palace to brief her father....

Anybody ever wonder why America is weak and is the laughing stalk of the world?
Simple:
Just look at how much coverage a Royal Wedding gets in a country that
doesn't really respect us compared to the coverage of any of the real
problems that are happending right now. It is Prime example of why this
country will never, and should never vote a Woman into the most powerful
executive position in the World.
I dunno, We could sure use a Margaret Thatcher right about now. (Come to think of it, that sounds like a good name for a drink. New thread? ) Can you imagine a debate between Obambi and Margaret Thatcher in her prime? Heck, Thatcher'd embarass him now and I hear she's in the throes of Alzheimers or something.
