Rubio Debates Kerry In The Senate Over Debt Limit Increase
— Ace

Whoops... Andy posted this last night. I took the day off to... assemble furniture.

Um, Open Thread, then?

Beginning around 6:00, Rubio begins reading letters and statements expressing "extremist" views on not raising the debt limit.

He reveals that the statements were made, in order, by President Obama, Vice President Biden, and Senate Majority Leader Reid in 2007.

At this point, John Kerry asks to yield for a question. A preview, maybe, of how Rubio would fare in a vice presidential debate. Via Red State, but embedded below.

Kerry: "But (Senator Obama's) was a symbolic vote."

He was just getting warmed up.  Now he is a symbolic President... symbolic of how useless a Democrat can be and still get elected, and protected, by the media.  Kerry would know.

43 It's amazing to witness the contrasts between someone who is statesmanlike and someone who wishes to appear so. Kerry, with his let me dispatch this young muckraker pretense is sad and pathetic and telling.

They (Ds and Rs) look at Rubio and know that life as they have known it is changing. The Marco Rubios and Rand Pauls are our future and we'd better be damned certain to nurture, not destroy them, with our own inclination to eat our own the moment they stumble.

For the Dems, this speech must have made their asses pucker.

46 Kerry: "But (Senator Obama's) was a symbolic vote."

I.e., it doesn't matter.  We're just playing at governance here in the Senate. It's all a lie.

You think this is about principle?  Tough luck, KosKiddies, this is about elite liberals getting power and money and you libs are just pawns. They want to keep you poor and stupid and railing against corporations and the rich.

And every time you come up with a principle, you have to throw it in the trash to defend them.

Rubio for VP in '12, President in '20?

I look forward to serving the new Rubioverlord.  All liberals will report to the nearest conservative for re-education, which will entail learning that responsible persons do not spend based on hope but on how much f*cking money you actually have, and that cutting government spending INCREASES the amount of money in the economy as a whole and DECREASES the debt.

Regarding the symbolic vote point as well, I'm pretty sure the MBM would jump all over a Republican who did what Obama did here, and rightly so.  The problem is that they won't jump on Obama for it.  You can't claim to vote for your principle only because you know the majority will vote against you and for what is really needed.  If you're a purist, you don't vote for symbolic motives, it's the fact that your motives are pure that makes the vote symbolic.  You can be a purist or a realist, but you can't be a purist then and a realist now and claim intellectual honesty, because, you know, being a purist was all about the symbolism--which kinda sorta makes you a realist then by definition.  You want to appear pure while seeing the desired (realistic) outcome.

61 the 2006 debt speech/vote mirrors JEF's sitting in a racist's church pew for 20 years and saying he had never heard a discouraging word. He was in that church for purely political reasons and his debt speech was only theater for the rubes (nudge, wink). Sadly, Kerry thinks that settles it. I wonder how many silver -haired, fat in the ass senators were nodding in agreement. Phuckers.
