There's a great book, "Once A Runner" (fiction) about a quarter miler.

Thanks, runningrn! It's just a laziness factor with this kid. She is built like a 400/800 meter runner with huge strides but tries to run against the smaller, squater short distance sprinters. She often wins, but fights doing the longer distances.

Her summer track is on the USATF teams that lead to the National Junior Olympics.

There is some incredible competition there, and lots of future Olympians.

Mostly no.  There's a nonzero chance something catastrophic will happen, but they track stuff bolt-sized and bigger.  Space is a lot bigger than most people realize.  I mean, they were on red alert because something came within 3 miles of them.
I'd be more worried about cosmic rays.  They can close their eyes and see flashes of light from where the cosmic rays hit their eyes.  But then it's fun to think that those cosmic rays originated at a supernova or black hole.

Yeah, I like him.  YouTube has a ton of Discovery Channel and Science Channel shows, and there are physics lectures all over the place too, including by some giants.  And some famous experiments, like the double-slit - not Sheen's double slit, but Young's.

There are also some kooks pushing unorthodox physics, which is entertaining some times.
