— Ace This is always sort of misleading, because we already knew she was "engaged in political activity." She's always been "engaged in political activity." She has PAC and an analyst post on FoxNews and comments on the issues of the day and endorses candidates and headlines rallies.
The question is if she's running.
The former Alaska governor’s political action committee, 2012 Can’t Come Fast Enough, has reportedly sent out a mailing to South Carolina Republicans.“Taking back control of the House last year was only the first step,” Ms. Palin writes in the mailer first reported by The Fix. “Now you and I must fix our eyes on 2012. Our goal is to take back the White House and the Senate.”
Well, she's not running for the Senate (we assume), so... I don't know. Seems like the sort of thing she does whether running or not.
Since I've been on such a hot streak of predicting who's running and who's not, I won't offer an opinion here, because, when you're batting 1.000, it's okay to take a well-earned walk.
Speaking Of: Advisers say I was right about Trump being determined to run. (And I was also right, of course, in that he would not run, despite such determination.)
But he was apparently ready to think about it -- so much so that Trump had been meeting with political consultants on a weekly basis and talking to them on the phone even more frequently. Last Thursday they handed him a campaign plan complete with suggested names for a campaign manager, a finance director and even a team to run his political website.“He was more serious than a lot of people realize,” John McLaughlin, one of the consultants working closely with Trump, said in an interview with ABC News. “He definitely had a path to victory -- it would have been a tough path.”
The article doesn't cite the real reason for Trump getting cold feet. We can guess about it. Birth Certificate thing, polls falling, general trouble on the horizon with his Democratic donations and previous positions getting more and more chatter. Maybe even the F-bombs in Vegas.
But we don't really know yet.
I really don't believe (no kidding here) it was all, as some said, just a promotional gimmick. Trump's ratings on that dumb show were very high, as he will be the first to tell you. And the second. And the third. And the fourth fifth and sixth.
I think he was serious, or at least convinced himself he was serious.
I'm glad he's not running. I really did fear him attempting the nomination, failing, and then going third party.

Taking back the white house and senate does not sound to me like an indication that she plans to run for pres. It can just as easily indicate that she is ready to make the rounds in support of candidates for those positions.

someone said yesterday that she may not do anything until the statute of limitations is up on the idiots being able to sue her in alaska. The person gave one date and then someone corrected them by about twenty days later, when she seriously became the VP nominee and left the governorship. So I'm thinking with that out there, it gives her lots of time to decide.
I knew Trump was serious. I'm trying to figure out what happened and I have feelers out everywhere.

So if the Republican establishment wants her to run, the best thing they can do right now is line up solidly behind Mittens.
If the Republican establishment doesn't want her in the race, and if she enters she is probably the nominee, they need to get behind a conservative.

Anyway, Palin would be silly not to run. Huck is out, so she's got a very clear path to victory.
In fact, I'd say it's unlikely anyone but Palin is our nominee, so we had better hope she can pull in swing states better than 2010 seems to indicate Tea Partiers can. I don't say this as a swipe against Palin. Palin is the candidate most like Daniels on fiscal and social issues, and I think any of these candidates will be utterly vilified once they are nominated. I just wish she had a better resume.
Compared to Obama, no problem, but a conservative has to be way better than that.

She actually had a pretty good cabinet in Alaska if I recall. Am I in error? I hope she distances her husband from power, just because of my cynical view on how things work, but I heard someone suggest she send him for Senate confirmation as Sec of Energy on a clean-house mission, which honestly is probably as legit as any other nomination would be.
Palin/Perry or Palin/Daniels? I could see those tickets doing well. The good thing about Palin is that she will at least try to take the narrative. She will criticize Obama harshly. It will not be a one way street of attacks vs Mccain style 'Obama's nothing to be scared of, guys. He's a family man!'
I don't prefer Palin, but I think we have to be prepared for the possibility that we will have to help her win swing states.

I said the government doesn't create jobs, only has the ability to create an environment of private industry to create jobs. He said, the military and other things and my only response could be, "where do you think the money to pay for all that stuff comes from?"

This is an issue that ought to be answered by the scientific community; I’m not a meteorologist. All I know is 90 percent of the scientists say climate change is occurring. If 90 percent of the oncological community said something was causing cancer we’d listen to them. I respect science and the professionals behind the science so I tend to think it’s better left to the science community — though we can debate what that means for the energy and transportation sectors.

@117: "114, UM, based on the 2010 election results."
Fail. The GOP is socialist lite. 2010 may have been an FU to the Dems, but it was by no means an embrace of the free market (Hell, even the GOP only values the free market as a campaign slogan - most of their actions in office run counter to it). No one wants to cut Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, "education" spending, etc. Pretty much the only thing that people want to cut is "foreign aid," and maybe earmarks.
So again, where is the evidence?

Fuck Universal when we're not seen as equal under the law by governing politicians and judges.
The process is corrupt. I can see revisionists spinning that as if the waiver process could be cleaned up into "respectability" so far as Republican "leadership" go with health care cost "reform".

If I form a party and want to win power over the long run, it will simply be an "even more free shit than the Dems promise you" platform. I don't believe in it, but people vote for it. I'd also throw in some nice tax cuts and flag-waving stuff, too.
Democrat spending policies, some tax cuts, all couched in patriotic sloganeering, and served with vague platitudes about social issues. No comment on God, gays, guns, or abortion. That's what the electorate likes.

You don't understand what he meant. She didn't quit because of the attacks, therefore your claim they will continue, or amplify, while true, doesn't refute her reason to quit, which was the *lawsuits*.
And yes, her resignation makes a huge difference. For one, she could now make enough money to handle the lawsuits effectively. They are no longer ruining Alaska's government by swamping their administration, either, which preserves much of what Palin accomplished.
Also, the period for when certain scrutiny exists ends around the time she would be running for President, so quitting has a material legal benefit for her. By your own logic, but with my factual correction, it appears you must agree her resignation was justifiable.
And people get to quit jobs. The main reason to have a job is to take care of your family. Most politicians don't have to worry about that. They were born or married rich, and so corrupt that leaving office leads to corporate boardroom jobs. Palin wasn't corrupt... she's suffered more scrutiny than any politician I know of, and there just isn't any. And she wasn't rich. The lawsuits jeopardized her family's welfare, and she had every right to quit in that circumstance. Our society gets the government it deserves. I think we should cut Palin some slack on this point.
Regardless, Palin doesn't have enough experience for me to be confident she is ready for the Presidency. She's one of the good guys, but I am hoping Daniels turns out to be a fighter with political skill (it's not looking that way so far).
