Scientist Fakes Research, Blames Messenger When Caught [Andy]
— Open Blogger

Despite the awesomeness that is the House GOP's two-page Obamacare repeal bill, the best news in healthcare this week was that the FRAUD stamp was firmly (and hopefully finally) applied to the bogus “Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) Vaccine = Autism in a Vial™Â” theory.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield's 1998 report in the journal Lancet purporting to show a link between autism and the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella "was based not on bad science but on a deliberate fraud," says Dr. Fiona Godlee, editor in chief of BMJ, formerly the British Medical Journal, in an editorial published Tuesday. The editorial accompanies the first of three reports by British investigative journalist Brian Deer that document how Wakefield manipulated data in his attempts to prove something that he "knew" before he started his research.

Peer-reviewed "research" supporting a foregone conclusion published in a leading science journal? Research no one else can independently replicate and arrive at the same result? All of this seems awfully familiar.

Mann's Hockey Stick

I have a child who is severely affected by autism, and our blogger-in-arms Eddiebear over at DPUD did the best job of capturing my true sentiments about Wakefield that I've seen.

But this is a larger issue than just autism. It is yet another example of the same anti-progress, anti-technology mindset that applies to manmade global warming, DDT, genetically modified foods and the like. And like the (unintended?) consequences of these other issues, the autism vaccine hoax has had all-too predictable results.

Measles is now endemic in England and Wales. California recently suffered a whooping cough outbreak that sickened 7,800 people and killed 10 babies. As Paul Offit, the chief of infectious diseases at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and one of the few who stood up against the autism scare, writes in his new book "Deadly Choices," the victims of this "war on science" are children.
Offit is right. There is a "war on science" and it is being conducted in the open by the left right out of its playbook. The MFM can't hide from the Wakefield study now, so they have no choice but to criticize it. When it was first published though, they ran scare story after scare story about it.

Like any good member of the Hollywood left, Jenny McCarthy jumped in and got a little extension on her 15 minutes of fame and Oprah "He's The One" Winfrey was all too willing to help her. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., idiot Huffpo bloggers and other usual lefty suspects piled on.

And of course anyone who dared suggest that the science was flawed or that more research was needed was attacked ad hominem and accused of being a shill of Big Oil Pharma.

Way back when President Obama still gave speeches that people listened to, he said

We will restore science to its rightful place and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its costs.

We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age.

What he really meant was that we'd further dumb down education and students' critical thinking skills so they'll believe we're impervious to disease and that we can power our modern society with unicorn farts and taxes on millionaires and billionaires.

In the 17th century, Thomas Hobbes described the life of man in his natural state as "nasty, brutish and short." The left, with every stupid idea and policy they advocate, is bound and determined to take us back there.

I think it was in Atlas Shrugged where Reardon had the vision of rice grains stolen from starving peasants piling up until the became rubies running through the fingers of a slack-faced oriental despot.

The left doesn't care that the majority suffer horribly from privation and want, they imagine that they will be at the top of the heap.

7 Good post.

What strikes me is the left's reliance on "technology" to cure all of our ills. I am terrified of the medical care that we all will be receiving from the current crop of medical students. Not because of a lack of technology, but because of a lack of critical thinking. They are technicians, not scholars.

19 As a father of an autistic son, I am suspect of vaccinations (particularly multi-drug cocktail immunizations) triggering autoimmune issues in susceptible children.  That doesn't mean I don't have my kids vaccinated, but I wish we had spaced out the shots so his system didn't get the multiple blast at once.

My concerns center on the fact that at age 5 he also became a type-1 diabetic, which has known autoimmune factors.  What role might they play in autism?  I don't think the research is clear, but given the crossover of the two afflicitons, I have to wonder.

Posted by: nickless at January 08, 2011 07:04 AM (MMC8r)

20 There's a bit more than Wakefield going on with the disease outbreaks in Britain.  Islam is somewhere from undecided to hostile to vaccination, so there's a hot zone in the Muslim areas that spill over into the rest of the country.

21 My daughter has Aspergers, thats a mild form of Autism. She functions well but some of her behaviors turn our house upside down. I understand Jenny's need to find an answer and place blame. She is not right, but I understand why she does what she does. The day science stopped being science was the day the people funding that science had a vested intrest in the outcome. I don't know when that started but I know it can be stopped through non partisan control of public funding. I'm not smart enough to have an actual plan but I am sure there are those who are.

23 Anyone who was around in the 60s knows all the crap that they had to do to link smoking with cancer. stuff like smearing those ubiquitous white rats with pounds of smoking tar and feeding them with hundreds of times their body weight in it.

Also who can forget the "cigarette smoking machines" that they used?

They did that for years because at the time it did take some kind of valid research before the politicians would punch out a bad law.

But that cigarette stuff led to the other in the classic slippery slope fashion. A lot of us knew that it would start with cigarettes and move on. It did.

Now we have the infamous second hand smoke "study" that was actually based on NOTHING.  It was so bad that a court threw it out on the first challenge. Didn't matter, the government still uses it despite that fact and nobody cares because EVERYONE hates smoking.

I question that part of the study as well.  The rise in TB and Whooping Cough is from increased travel and immigration from the third world.  I had Whooping Cough and can trace it right back to a missionary from Africa who stayed at a friend's house here in the US.  That vaccination you got as a kid wears off around age 40.

29 Putting aside for the moment the issue of fraud, it was still a gross violation of scientific standards that this bit of research ever saw the light of day. The study was based on a total sample size of 12 - yes, 12 - subjects. It never had an ounce of statistical validity and shouldn't have been published with such a miniscule sample size, except maybe as a call for a legitimate, larger scale study to see if the results would be born out. But Wakefield's study on it's own is statistically meaningless.

Posted by: somebody else, not me at January 08, 2011 07:18 AM (7EV/g)

30 Scientists are people. The reality is any given scientific paper is more likely to be false than true. Only after large bodies of research support the same finding should we believe it with any confidence. You can get a single peer-reviewed paper to say just about anything.

There are multiple reasons for this:

1) Publish or perish pressure within the science industry (and it is an industry).
2) Few career rewards or plaudits for confirming findings of other researchers -- the incentives are strong to publish original research with a novel finding.
3) Huge incentives for novel, positive findings, not negative. Negative findings are often not-publishable. When scientists get a negative result they analyze it rigorously to find errors, when they get a positive result they assume everything went as planned and publish. Normal human self-delusion is the culprit. We blind ourselves to see what we want to see.
4). Statistics are hard. Most researchers are not capable of spotting their own statistical errors. Most papers contain statistical errors.
5) Thorough peer review is hard, time-consuming and not rewarded. Peer review is done by working scientists. They do not have the time or interest in doing an in-depth review of a new paper. They do a cursory review to make sure it seems plausible and that's all. Most also lack the stats knowledge to detect statistical errors or fraud in the finding.

Wakefield is the lettered equivalent of a prostitute.  Whomever wrote Wakefield's cheques decided what the answer would be.

It is a war against classical empirical science that demands results that can be repeated.  We are reverting to superstition.  Instead of the witchdoctor we got this supposed boffin in a white coat telling us the answer he wants to push.  Critical thinking is becoming scarce.  Instead we are raising legions of the braindead who chant mantras but do not comprehend the implications.  They are becoming no different than howler monkeys screeching.

Eugenics was the ideology of humans perfecting the human race.  So for example California sterilised 20,000 of its own citizens to prevent those bad genes from being passed on.  Wakefield's ideology was to get money, screw whomever got hurt or killed.  I consider Wakefield far more evil than Sanger.  Wakefield needs to be publically flogged.

34 Medical and Psychiatric journals started to become heavily politicized in the 1970's.  One of the primary influences was from the people who wanted to "normalize" abortion.  All of these were liberals, many of them feminists.  They pressured the journals to approve politically correct studies and the peer review process, which is iffy at best and relies on the integrity of the participants, became corrupted to a level where even the most prestigious journals were publishing crap science like "conservatives are mentally ill" papers.  You no longer can trust a journal article without doing your own confirming research.

39 Scientific Consensus on Man-Made Ozone Hole May Be Coming Apart

As the world marks 20 years since the introduction of the Montreal Protocol to protect the ozone layer, Nature has learned of experimental data that threaten to shatter established theories of ozone chemistry. If the data are right, scientists will have to rethink their understanding of how ozone holes are formed and how that relates to climate change.

This progressives are real bastards.  Take for and additional example the HHS bull shit studies that voila now recommends AGAINST mammograms at 40 on account now I guess 50 is the new 40, accoring to them and also they now recommend skipping a year between mammograms.

Oh, and then of course there was the recommendation to take the breast cancer drug of the market which means even if it becomes an 'off label' drug, insurance companies won't pick it up, nor medicare.

Then look at the 3rd paragraph in the Medicare Trustees report and you will find written in code health care rationing.  Oh, and as for the Trustees, guess who they are there.  They are the secretaries of HHS, Treasury, Labor and SOS Admin.  There are supposed to be 2 outside Trustees.  But guess what, their spots remain "Vacant."

This healthcare law is one of the most nefarious frauds out there.  When you understand the behind the scenes players in this and what they have written and what they propose, you will want to throw up.

I'm going to be riding herd on the GOP to see the two outside Trustees are fast tracked and suggest legislation be draftedto make the Trustees entirely independent.  An independent group of Trustees, now I suppose that's heresy in the great progressive fraud play.

Medical and Psychiatric journals started to become heavily politicized in the 1970's.  One of the primary influences was from the people who wanted to "normalize" abortion.

And homosexuality, too. The psychiatric profession was lobbied hard (or intimidated) at around the same time into removing homosexuality from the list of psyciatric disorders. The reasoning at the time being that it was just a different lifestyle choice. But now that they don't want to be discriminated against for what they once called a lifestyle choice, it is no longer a choice and is now their genetic destiny. Sorry, can't have it both ways. And whatever cause you attribute to it, homosexuality is not "normal". The word has a meaning, and what I object to most is the violence done to our language for political ends.

States are starting to tax grocery bags (plastic and paper) to change the behavior of consumers. The reuseable bags harbor ecoli and probably other things. When children die or lose a kidney because their parents thoughtfully carried home the groceries in disease laden reusable bags, who should the parents blame? They could blame the state/environmentalists who pushed this circumstance or they could blame themselves for not looking at or even hearing consequences.

In a focus group I said that I don't use the reuseable bags because I buy too much to carry around 12 dirty bags to the store. They all looked at me like I were an alien. There is a desire to conform to the wishes of the state.

45 I have 3 kids with Autism, ranging from Asperger's for the oldest (a girl) to autism for the two boys. I never believed the "MMR causes autism" hype for one minute, though I've had to put up with well-meaning friends sending me clipped articles on it for over 15 years. All three of my kids are very different from each other, physically, mentally and emotionally, and it just seemed too convenient that lightning should strike THREE time in one family when the majority of kids have no trouble with vaccines. I think it's pretty obvious that autism is genetic in origin, though there are exceptions. I liken it to families where generation after generation of women develop breast cancer, and then there are cases where a woman will get breast cancer right out of the blue, with no history of it in her family. It isn't a foolproof formula, but genetics plays a large role. The aftereffects of this sort of faux science is visible everywhere. The average person doesn't bother to study the science, they just absorb a vague "Vaccinations make you sick" message and act accordingly. Last year during the flu outbreak, people refused to get the flu vaccine because they were convinced that doing so would GIVE THEM the flu. They have no idea why or how, just a media-generated suspicion that "they" don't care if they kill us with their drugs.

The vax does indeed wear off, but these new strains from the 3rd world combined with people maintaining an unvaxed population of schoolkids creates a perfect storm. I wish they understood that vaccinations cause organ failure and brain damage very rarely in those who dont tolerate them well, not likely autism. My Neuro who specializes in pediatrics, and specifically autism told me the researchers she respects suspect there is a genetic component might be more likely and have something to do with highly intelligent people marrying each other more often. that high IQ is a mutation and likely carries other recessives. In the past, smart men often married nice girls who were homemakers, picked for nice personality and looks maybe, no always as brilliant as they were. More often these days people pick mates at work, at the same intelligence and education level, and more likely those smart people carry the same recessives. It was an interesting discussion she was willing to have since my Adopted daughter is a little Aspy, and i am a horse breeder used to such frank discussions. upshot: Some researchers are looking into the theory that smart people= more likely to have this problem. what a sad backhanded compliment

We will always have scam artists and con men, especially in the government which seems to attract crooks like nectar to bees.

But it is the job of the MFM and "investigative reporting" to expose them for the crooks they are. Instead every bogus study that is reported is hailed by the MFM in the exact words the con men use. 60 One key to understanding any "study" is whether or not it and it's methods have been published and are available for review by the public.

The MFM rarely even described the "methods" much less provide any reporting on the actual study itself.

All you ever get is the infamous "studies show that....".

61 47 The debate and outrage over delisting Homosexuality as a disorder with no science to back it up went on for twenty years after the fact in the Psychiatric Times and the Annals of Psychiatry, both of which I read at the time.  It was a strictly a political decision and those who respected science as a process never accepted it as anything but a PC capitulation.

62 My only issue with vaccines is that some of them are made using cell lines derived from abortions. Rubella is one of these.  So is chickenpox. So is Polio. So is Hep-A.

Like any harvesting of tissue (such as when the 14 week old baby boy's lung tissue was harvested for the cell line MRC-5 - dead tissue is worthless. So you can bet your boots when they ripped him out he was alive and perhaps even struggling to live when he was dissected for his tissue.
No anesthesia. No nothing.
Just a barbaric murder.
And it wasn't just him. The rubella vax cell line was developed on the 28th abortion. The first 27 babies were just throwaway research.

63 Nevermind the fact that OTHER COUNTRIES use chicken fetal cells, monkey cells, etc. to develop their vax.
But using a dead chicken hardly advances the cause of cheapening human life and furthering the abortion-on-demand whenever-wherever movement.

No it doesn't. Wakefield said he believed it was the live measles virus in the vaccine. Thimerosal was a different bit of junk science.

67 On the subject of manipulated science, and hell, health care: Avastin. Rushed through and approved for breast cancer treatment. Accepted in Canada and the EU. However, it costs $70,000-$100,000 for treatment. The drug company offers a discounted rate to low income users w/ insurance. Post-Obamacare, the follow-up studies by the FDA conveniently found "its risks outweigh its benefits", and cited costs as one of the risks. it only "costs a lot" through the treatment if it works. A lot cheaper if the patient just, well, dies. Still approved for other cancers, and can be prescribed "off label" for breast cancer- but since the FDA pulled it's endorsement as BC treatment, those insurance companies aren't going to cover it anymore. It takes years of research and study and real, critical review (not the rubberstamped nonsense we see with climate change) to prove or disprove something. Unless you are the FDA.

" I think that's exactly right, though I wouldn't go so far as to link it explicitly to intelligence and IQ. It's more a slightly off-balance way of seeing the world. People with Asperger's are drawn to each other, and can find each other in a crowd. My daughter's friends have ALWAYS been Aspie types, even if they're undiagnosed (and after as much exposure to it as we've had, believe me I can always pick up the telltale signs). My husband and I are both undiagnosed Aspie's - of course, nobody knew when we were young, but in hindsight it's obvious (I even did the hand-flapping thing when I was young!). As we grew up we managed to figure out on our own compensating ways of managing in the world, but when we met it was obvious that we had a lot in common. Unfortunately, we produced a genetic cocktail with rather wild results. I think you're specialist is completely right that a lot of autistic people self-select and gravitate to each other, with the result that the genetic strain is perpetuated and even intensified.

Peer-reviewed "research" supporting a foregone conclusion published in a leading science journal? Research no one else can independently replicate and arrive at the same result? All of this seems awfully familiar.

Good science journals try to limit the conversion of "peer-review" to "pal-review" by not allowing people you collaborate with or have significant ties to to review your work.  Sadly, the "Globull Warming" journals have skirted even this minimal standard, as we saw with the Mann, Jones, Briffa, et al Climategate scandal.

And peer-review isn't the end-all in validating sound scientific work.  Only independent replication of experimental results can validate them.

I am sure that the lack of ultraviolet light during the Arctic and Antarctic winters has nothing to do with the Ozone holes. Absolutely nothing; not one thing in the world, nada, zip, beep, zero, zed, irrelevant. Must be man made, can't possibly be a natural phenomenon.

Nor would the fact that the earth is closer to the sun during the arctic winter and thus receives more UV light  at the North pole than at the south pole - have anything to do with the fact that the Arctic ozone home is smaller than the Antarctic hole.

Funny, since most of the evil CFC's originate in the Northern Hemisphere you would think that the Arctic hole would be larger.

Rucklesnot overrode the recommendation of the then EPA scientists and ordered it banned anyway for pure political reasons.

And so the political EPA was born right from the beginning in a nominal "Republican" administration. That is if you consider Nixon a Republican.

We are so fucking far from the doctors even understanding where to start fighting this awful shit that those of us with autistic kids will be lucky to see a cure while we live, barring some polio-vaccine-style miracle.

My wife and I got a briefing in October about our 2.5yo son.

Here is the rendered down sum total summary given to us by all the doctors and "professionals"of what science has done since they have been fighting this evil motherfucker:
Nobody knows what causes it.
Nobody knows how to prevent it.
Nobody knows how to get rid of it.
We know almost nothing about how to help anyone live with it.
We can't tell how bad it is.
We can't tell you how bad it is going to be.
We can't tell if it is going to get better.
We can't tell when we'll know any more about anything.

But we are pretty fucking sure you better come see us for two hours a day, four days a week at $150/hr and sign these 27pg forms.

The researcher gave massive quantities of them to the rats and nothing happened. Finally he started injecting them directly into the rat's livers, and voila: liver cancer. Banned sweetener.

It later turned out that injecting normal saline solution the same way caused the same rate of liver cancer in lab rats. A further study showed that sticking a dry needle into lab rat's livers caused the same liver cancer rate.

Sodium Cyclamates remain banned as a sweetener in the US.

109 What strikes me is the left's reliance on "technology" to cure all of our ills. I am terrified of the medical care that we all will be receiving from the current crop of medical students. Not because of a lack of technology, but because of a lack of critical thinking. They are technicians, not scholars. Posted by: CharlieBrown's We are back from the ER with our daughter, age 15, who has been suffering from unexplained back and stomach pain for a year and a half. 18 months. In Virginia, she had three MRI's, x-rays, physical therapy, blood tests, more blood tests, and a testy doctor who essentially told her it was all in her head. Apparently he never ordered a simple lypase evaluation. She went to our new doc here in Florida on Thursday, with intensification of her symptoms, and by Friday, he got the results and sent her to the hospital. She's in the beginning of pancreatic failure. Symptoms? Stomach and back pain. She went through hell for so long, and became clinically depressed because she thought she would have to live with this pain forever, since it was "in her head." I understand that doctors are humans, and make mistakes, but you hit the nail on the head with the lack of critical thinking. We now start on a new set of doctors and tests, and I am praying that there nothing that can't be fixed. But I am afraid. And I am more afraid if Obamacare is not repealed. And yes, fraudulent publishing should have severe consequences, including jail time, because people can and have been harmed by it. Seems only right.

126 Additional Blond Agent, I used to have a book or two on Autism, but once the kids were diagnosed I pretty much lost interest in READING about it, since I was spending all my time LIVING it. I'll see if I can find a compact list of symptoms - there are a fair number, and if you score more than a certain percent of them, you can be classified as falling within the "Autism Spectrum Disorder". I remember before our son was diagnosed, I already suspected the problem but my husband was very much in denial about it. I began reading off to him the symptom list, most of which Thomas fitted, and he was able to pooh-pooh most of them, but eventually it became too overwhelming. "Flaps his hands" - "Oh, that's just because he's overexcited." "Lines up blocks or small objects in a line." - "He just likes Thomas the Tank Engine." "Little or no independent vocabulary." - "He's had a lot of ear infections." "Echolalia - repeats other people's words and lines from TV and movies" - "He spends a lot of time watching TV." "Walks on tiptoes." - "OH MY GOD!"

You KNOW that's not true, and you're damn well depending on science to help your autistic child just like I'm depending on it to help mine.

The school just removed him this week from 1st grade and said that they are "looking for a place for him". His mom is willing to pay for a private neuro-psych but he becomes angry at the mere mention. Hopefully the school system piss him off enough that he starts at least looking at what is going on. The poor kid is 8 and hasn't had any help. He does everything in the symptom list AND is aggressive. I knew something was wrong when he was a very little baby because I had never seen a baby AVOID faces. The dad is very aspy himself with a genius IQ and no job. 151 I'd have to disagree.  This is NOT a ware *against* science, it is a war *for* scientism.  This is a very Western malady, centuries in the making, that elevates the human intellect to the role of God.  The problem is that a LOT of science is just plain wrong.  Wasn't there a paper or a book that came out some months ago which, I believe, was covered on this very site, that discussed how frequently "scientists" ignore data that contradicts their original theories?   And not just in "politically charged" or "controversial" areas of science.  I mean, the most virulent is definitely in the field of evolutionary studies (well, the multiple disciplines within science involved in studying the theory of evolution).  But even in stuff that seems pretty benign, as I remember it from the paper, data that doesn't fit is either minimized, ignored, or covered up.

I think it would be, though, a mistake to call this a war "against science."

Patrick

supporting the science and engineering research needed to understand and
overcome the barriers to sustainable human well-being. In response to
this global challenge, all eleven NSF Directorates and Offices have

It's true. As a mathematician, this really pisses me off, because we have to deal in the realm of metaphysical certainty.  There's no scientific method.  It's either proven or it isn't.  We aren't allowed to be wrong.

But the idea of developing a hypothesis, testing it against data and rejecting the data (i.e., the real world) if it doesn't fit is what I call the "social scientific method" but it's common in the natural sciences too and not necessarily for malicious reasons.  We often don't want to believe what we don't want to believe.

Nice rant, Andy.  IÂ’m sure your intention are good, but it is obvious from your essay you have not followed this story in any detail or done your own research.  Your trumpeting the words of Paul Offit make that very clear.  Here are a few facts:

1)      Paul Offit is hardly some unbiased observer.  He is a patent holder for the RotaTeq vaccine manufactured by Merck for rotavirus.  It is estimated he has received more than $10 Million in royalties from the vaccine.  It is also estimated that the number would have been $2M higher if the vaccine if RotaTeq had been more widely accepted.  Only the US and a few other countries have added it to the schedule.

2)      Infants are routinely given 5 to 7 vaccines in a single doctorÂ’s office visit.  Despite the claims of the vaccine providers, this has never been studied and shown to be safe.  In fact, there is a new primate study published in the journal Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis that indicates pervasive harm.

3)      The vaccine schedule has increased to 36 vaccine doses by age two from less than half that number in 1980.  Are kids healthier today than when we were kids?

4)      The US gives more than twice as many vaccine doses than other first-world countries such as Denmark, Sweden and Iceland.  The US gives more vaccine doses by age two than any other country.  Are US kids healthier than European kids?

5)      The US routinely vaccinates children against diseases that used to be considered virtually harmless in children such as chicken pox, flu and rotavirus.  These were added to the schedule for reasons of convenience (e.g. so parents donÂ’t have to take time off of work to tend sick kids) rather than medical need.

6)      Toddlers are vaccinated against Hepatitis B, a disease they have no chance of catching unless they are shooting drugs or frequenting prostitutes.  The Hep B vaccine protection wears off long before kids are teenagers or adults when it might actually do some good.

7)      Children are routinely given vaccine booster after booster despite having developed adequate antibodies to a disease.  Antibody titers could be measured to see if the booster is required, but it is cheaper to give the booster than administer the test.  This would be fine if vaccines were perfectly safe, but like any medical procedure they entail certain risks.  The medical literature is filled with descriptions of adverse reactions to vaccines.

Vaccine manufactures are indemnified against liability by the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act.  Once their vaccine makes it on the schedule, they canÂ’t be sued.  Once it is on the schedule, states then usually make it mandatory for school admission.  It is the only product in the world where consumers are forced by law to buy the product but then forbidden by law to sue for damages if injured.  Those who add the vaccines to the schedule, then retire from the CDC and become seven-figure consultants for Merck, Sanofi Pasteur, and the other vaccine manufacturers. It is the ultimate in crony capitalism.

9)      In the recent pertussis outbreak in California, public television station KPBS surveyed the county health departments and found more than 60% of those afflicted were fully vaccinated.  The outbreak has much more to do with the vaccineÂ’s inefficacy than the 3% of parents that choose not to vaccinate their children.

I donÂ’t know if Wakefield committed fraud or not.  I do know that he vehemently denies it and I donÂ’t understand how they could possible make a conclusive case with out an admission from him.  There are just too many variables.  I do know that Wakefield was not alone, and this goes far beyond a single paper.  The medical establishment has chosen to make an example out of Wakefield as a warning to others.  Unfortunately for them, this will not go away just by crucifying Wakefield.

I have two boys, they are vaccinated, but we follow the Danish schedule not the US schedule (less than half as many doses as the US schedule).  Denmark isnÂ’t Mexico; it is a prosperous first-world country with kids far healthier than those in the US.  Please explain how I endanger my kids and the community by following the vaccine schedule of an advanced, first-world country instead of labeling us as anti-vaccine nuts.

Andy – I should have put this in the first comment, but I pray for your son and your family.  My oldest son is also ASD, and we switched to the Danish schedule after he regressed.  His regression was within a few days of getting seven vaccines at once.  As they say, correlation is not causation, but it certainly drove my interest in exploring every facet of the vaccine-ASD connection.  The most shocking discovery for me was the explosion of the vaccine schedule after the 1986 law indemnifying vaccine manufacturers against liability.  By and large, this expansion of the schedule has not taken place outside the US, Canada and the UK.

Regarding Dr. Wakefield, the treatments he pioneered along with Dr Krigman and Dr Jepson and Thoughtful House have been a tremendous blessing for my son.  Not only has my sonÂ’s gastro-intestinal distress improved dramatically, but his neurological symptoms have also improved.  We owe this all to the hard work of those at Thoughtful House and also the work of the late Bernard Rimland at the Autism Research Institute.

You're a satisfied customer of Wakefield. That's all I needed to know to put your comments in proper context.

Best of luck to you.

200 Jeff C. I will tell you that I didn't vaccinate my last three children till they were school aged. I didn't like the idea of pumping them full of whatever the government felt was necessary. Funny thing is, if you wait till they're of school aged to get their vaccinations, the amount they're required to get, drops by way over half.

My now 7 year old got his first set of shots at age 5. His kindergarten set, I told them I only wanted what was legally required. He got 6 total. SIX!!!

None of that every two months and they pump them full of 6-8 injections. Dealing with the fevers that my oldest had to suffer through.

202 Inside a jewellery crafting class, you will have a teacher which could teach you getting such things as bead knotting and closing crimps done right. Out of your teacher, you may also learn many different associated with Thomas and Sabo, along with some tips in picking out your own personal designs and in all probability in setting up your own jewellery shop. One more apparent benifit of attending a category is that you arrive at share your learning experience with all the other people who are taking the class along with you. If you are a social particular person,Tom Sabo this chance for interaction with your peers can be quite a useful thing. You may also network with these once you establish Thomas Sabo Jewellery creating company in the foreseeable future.
