SEAL Team 6 Unhappy With Obama Taking Bows
— rdbrewer

There was no lengthy battle. The entire operation took only 90 seconds (before Bin Laden died) and 12 bullets. From the sidebar link to The Telegraph:

The men who killed the al-Qaeda chief have decided to speak out because they are tired of their "shabby treatment" by politicians who claim they were on a "kill mission".

They insisted there was no lengthy gun-fight in the compound and claimed they would have captured Bin Laden if he had surrendered, The Sunday Times in the UK reports (behind a paywall).

. . .

He said the men were angry with President Barack Obama for announcing Bin LadenÂ’s death on TV just hours after they completed the mission on May 1.

"There isn't a politician in the world who could resist trying to take credit for getting Bin Laden but it devalued the 'intel' and gave time for every other Al-Qaeda leader to scurry to another bolthole," he said.

"The men who did this and their valorous act deserve better. It's a pretty shabby way to treat these guys."

I made a similar point about the intel last May in the sidebar:

Bin Laden Raid Yields Intel on Ayman al-Zawahiri
Wouldn't it have been nice if the intelligence community had been given a week to work with this "mother lode" of information before Obama started taking bows? He just. couldn't. wait. Of course, the cockroaches scattered immediately. Amateur hour.

And Jonah Goldberg said the same thing in the LA Times after that:

For a week people have been asking, "Why won't the president release Osama bin Laden's photo?" That's the wrong question. We should be asking, "Why was Barack Obama in such a hurry to tell us Bin Laden was dead?"

. . .

I'm no expert on such matters — though I've talked to several about this — but even a casual World War II buff can understand that the shelf life of actionable intelligence would be extended if we hadn't told the whole world, and Al Qaeda in particular, that we had it.

It's a bit like racing to the microphones to announce you've stolen the other team's playbook even before you've had a chance to use the information in the big game.

. . .

Couldn't they have at least tried to give the CIA a week, a day, even a few more hours to look at it all before letting Ayman Zawahiri and the rest of Al Qaeda know about it? Why give him the slightest head start to go even further underground?

Amateur hour indeed. But else do you expect from a SCoaMF?

7 If they had been prepared for the possibility of actionable intelligence, which they probably were, they could have done a lot with 168 hours.  (One week. Just one frigging week would have made a LOT of difference.)

By making the announcement within hours, it's as though President Obama was giving them a warning or something....

Which is probably true, come to think of it.

14 Besides the evening cry of the muezzin calling the faithful to prayer, the most beautiful sound in the world is the crack of a steel-jacketed round fired from a high-powered rifle, as it shatters the skull and scrambles the brains of one of Islam's favorite jihadis.

16 3 could this really have gone more than a week without being reported ; let alone one whole week?

With this media covering for him?

I think that rumours would have spread from Pakistan that some intelligence had gone missing. The Pakistanis would have cried about this assault on a baby aspirin factory which killed five thousand widows and orphans. Zawahiri then has maybe half a week of blissful ignorance.

This is why I think the hit was really ordered by more pro-American leaders of staff. Obama got caught flat-footed and scrambled to limit the damage (to al-Qaeda).

If it sounds like I'm accusing Obama of treason: I would accuse him of treason over supporting al-Qaeda in Libya, over keeping Holder on staff post-Fast & Furious, over not obeying Congressional subpoenas, over handing over Iraq to the Persians and over a lot of stuff like that. (In Egypt he wanted the Muslim Brotherhood to take over, but fortunately Egypt's military is too brutal and corrupt to stand for it. Um, yay.) So there's a pattern of treason in this administration.

17 It would have been nice to find out.

Well you're def right about that. Plus, I fail to see the harm in waiting as long as possible. Just not sure it would have been plausible but I defer to the mil morons on that point.

Regardless, he never would have waited. His biggest "win" was 14 months before with the wildly popular (giggle) health care law. He needed this.

Lord, what a fuck-up. And yes, this wasn't his "victory". He sat on his ass with this for 16+ hours and had to be drug off the golf course to make an actual executive decision.

19 Pakistan would've whined. And, by whining, they would have told the whole world that they've been harboring bin Laden all these years. This could have been kept secret at least until Al Qaeda figured out what happened. Had Enemy, Domestic, One Each in the oval office not made a run for the cameras and microphones, any leaks would have been treated as rumors.

56 I don't think a week could have gone by without the world knowing...I think the people who suspected he was there would have started talking long before then...but, it all would have been innuendo, and I'm sure there would have been great uncertainty and confusion, and that probably would have been very beneficial in and of itself. So, yes, he should have not said ANYTHING...I'm still shocked we got so much I formation so soon, even down to which branch of the military did it...just a really bad move...btw, I love that OBL's rifle is mounted on a wall at the SEAL HQ! And the other continues unabated to the accolades of his sycophants. Otherwise, both are indistinguishable as far as I am concerned - other than calling one a terrorist and the other a traitor.

Chuck Pfarrer, the SEAL in question, has retired.  He is no longer in the Navy. he's a civilian now and can say whatever he wants.

1) It was not a "kill" mission.  They were trying to capture Bin Laden.

2) There was a tremendous amount of actionable intelligence captured.  If the idea is to defeat Al Qaeda, then the raid should have been kept secret.  I don't think Pakistan would  have been to eager to reveal that Bin Laden was hiding in plain sight in Pakistan, or that SEAL Tean 6 got into the country so easily.

3) Obama has a big mouth and he and most of his close associates violated OPSEC for their own personal aggrandizement. Get people killed? Screw up the mission? Hey, I WON!

HA! Have no fear. Nobody listens to my suggestions around here.

198 I use the rule:  it's always fine to talk about the troll, just not to the troll.  For instance, raykon is one of those unfortunate people trapped in their bedrooms because they are too fat to fit through the door anymore.  On the plus side, he gets a helper monkey, and those things are damn cute.

BTW, have the TB's all retired?  We haven't had a good disenvoweling in a while.

199 I am afraid the monkey quit.  Something about the stink.

200 Stupid poor people, the 99 percent  (on either the right or the left), its your own fault; you dont work hard enough, else you would be in the top 1 percent.

201 Why dont the poor people just work harder?

Back in the early days of aol, engaging trolls was a cottage industry. The chat rooms were pretty free wheeling.   Newer versions are still as irritating as ever, I see.

203 99 percenters, if you only work harder for your masters, you will be rewarded.

204 AOL?  How far back do you go on those chatrooms?

210 I remember logging into AOL on the phone line and just loving that 28k speed, back then you paid for the privilege of having an email address through AOL.  Good times, good times.

211 Ignominious's, if you are not educated, and you are poor, its your own fault.

212 The best part of Obama's bullshit was the story the whitehouse came out with a bizarre narrative of what happend.  haha I still laugh out loud.

They actually said the seal who found bin laden paused, and said "tally ho! for king and country! hip hip hurray!!" or something then shot him. haha so cheap and stupid it pains me to say it.

President dumbshit also screwed up ANOTHER group pic at the G20 by waving and blocking the President of India's face.  Saw it on another site earlier this week.  What an absolute worthless idiot.  This guy is our president?  Does he know whats going on around him?  Did he see how stupid he looked the first time?  Does he use the "inter-webs"?  Is he intellectually curious?  We heard this with Bush.  This time, its true.  Our first retarded president.  Progress.

Oh yeah, I'd bet the farm that Obama is on major doses of xanax every 4x a day.  Nobody can act like he does naturally.  He's already mentally ill, but with xanax it really brings out the crazy.  Shameless and stupid.  He didn't have this goofy thing going on during his campaign... but now?   heh

213 I never used AOL for more than a day or two.

I used to hang out with a crowd of highschool to college kids in a room called "The Underground Lair".

I was fond of it.

214 Herman: Why so cryptic?  And kinda nutz?

Posted by: LCIM at November 06, 2011 05:52 PM (rZZA3)

215 I thought the narrative is that Obama faked the Osama killing (thus no pictures, even in this day and age of classified leakage), and that Seal Team 6 was shot down in a Chinook by a "lucky" Taliban dude, to keep them quiet.

And that crappy BC that Obama released was really a fake.

One of the fun things was debunking the "screen berets" who popped up in profusion. Assholes who claimed service when in reality they never got any further from their mom's tits than the basement.

Why don't you oil it with WD40? Do you know you can also be a 1 percenter if in you only work hard enough?

Obama just innocently blew the intel on Osama Ben Laden, just like he so innocently blew the overthrow of MiddleEast tyrants and gave the nations over to Militant Islam.  Time to get over being benefit of the doubt fools, that Obama innocently ALWAYS benefits militant Islam,eh ?

Serious detriment to fail to indentify the enemy in a struggle/fight to the death.  Enemy recognition is not optional !

So are we going to whimper and die, or see Obama for what he is ?  ESPECIALLY HIS WORKS, not his lies/words/posturing.

220 I wonder if having to leave a disabled special operations helicopter on the ground had anything to do with the the premature revelation of US involvement in the raid on Bin Laden's compound.

Posted by: Davod at November 07, 2011 04:30 AM (C5U9L)

221 Something is fishy about this whole timeline. It takes 9 months to conduct the raid! the other giveaway right away that the WH version was BS is if surveillance was underway for months, they knew there was little chance of resistance. There were three harmless men on the compound and a bunch of women and children. Sure, anything can happen and all contingencies have to be planned for, but for cripes sakes, we sent in 50 warriors. A 40-minute firefight?

Posted by: FlyerJack at November 07, 2011 05:24 AM (qr+c4)

222 Davod at 241, Under the best circumstances it would have taken a few days for all of Al-Qaeda's people to realize that they may have been compromised.  Most likely they would not have known if any the information was obtained during the raid.  The smartest man to ever occupy the Oval Office made sure that any Al-Qaeda operative with a radio knew there was a chance he was found out.

Quite simply, if Obama does anything right for our side it has to be by accident.
Postscript, if Iran gets the bomb I'm willing to take the title of worst President from Buchanan and give it to Obama.  I feel he's earned it.
