Secret Racism Running Wild in Our Government. [ArthurK]
— Open Blogger

I thought that when we elected Obama we proved we weren't racists. It seems that instead our elite have been inspired to search harder to root out every conceivable example.

Nordlinger at NRO noticed something about Raaaaacism in research grants.

"Black scientists lag whites in government funding." ... "Black scientists are less likely than whites to win research dollars from the National Institutes of Health,... "

Damn it! The NIH is a hotbed of racism! Who knew?

If I were head of NIH I'd strip out race and ethnicity information from the applications before they go to the peer review committees that evaluate and grade the funding requests. That'd fix things!

"No one is blaming overt racism. Race and ethnicity information is stripped from applications before they go to the ‘peer review’ committees that evaluate and grade the funding requests." "... peer reviewers may guess race from biographical information, and said NIH will study if ‘an insidious form of bias’ may be playing a role." ...

Oh. Eat Me.

Near the end of the article, we’re treated to this little fact, perhaps important: "There was no racial gap among the highest-scoring applications."

Eat Me^2.

"The study found no Hispanic gap, although Collins urged closer examination."

That is the most American - the most typical, the most delicious - thing in the entire article: "although Collins urged closer examination." It is almost offensive, you see, that there was no "Hispanic gap."

Nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

28 Zero racism or sexism for that matter on NIH panels, at least not in the scientist review part.  NIH grants are reviewed based on merit and medical revelance.

NSF includes as its funding criteria (for single investigator science grants) "broader impacts," which does include things like educational components (they love it when you make a web-accessible database, also involving undergrads in the research) as well as outreach to under-represented groups (minorities, women).  (Don't hate on me, I'm just reporting.)

Gotta go, but I may check in later.

Everybody knows who everybody else is.

Think about it.  Some schlub makes a proposal to cure cancer and they'll just fund him?  They have to know what facilities he has, what his past record is, etc., etc., etc.

The fact is that getting grants is much easier if you are female or a minority (or both).  There's either explicit or implicit affirmative action.

Posted by: rao6n at August 19, 2011 02:43 PM (IukvZ)

39 ...blacks (45%) and Hispanics (56%) were significantly less likely to resubmit an unfunded application compared with white investigators (64%, P < 0.001) .

.... For grants submitted three or more times, we found no significant difference in award probability between blacks and whites; however, Asians remained almost 4 percentage points less likely to receive an R01 award (P < .05).

Together, these data indicate that black and Asian investigators are less likely to be awarded an R01 on the first or second attempt, blacks and Hispanics are less likely to resubmit a revised application, and black investigators that do resubmit have to do so more often to receive an award. Assistance with the grants submission and resubmission process may provide a policy lever for diversifying the scientific workforce.

Obviously the researcher's internalized self-racism is causing them to not resubmit their grant packages.  Time for more government funded empowerment.

FDR =
*Created social security
*Massive Keynesian spender (spending believed to have created Great Depression 2 years after stock market had fully recovered from black friday)
*popular with fascist leaders of Europe
(http://mises.org/daily/2312)
*very anti-business and private sector
*confiscated private citizens gold
*Put Japanese Americans in interment camps -order 1066

LBJ =
*suspect in JFK and RFK assassination (accused by Jaque O and was person most benefited by their deaths)
*massive expansion of welfare state, promised to re-enslave the negro electorally through welfare
*father of public housing  (inner city housing projects) in one generation tripled the amount of black children born without fathers.

*agitated southern race relations and civil war grievances as a way to consolidate and advance power over the South.  Did not lose their majority until 1994?  (Not coincidentally about the time the South became a nice place to live)  The same party of "tolerance" that still uses the same tactics just swapped which groups were exploited and targeted

*Don't forget feminists history of Eugenics targeting blacks....

*so many more, I could spend all day un-rewriting history from those lecherous vipers.  No wonder Leftists Democrats have a full scale assault to rewrite history.

58 If I were head of NIH I'd strip out race and ethnicity information from the applications before they go to the peer review committees that evaluate and grade the funding requests. That'd fix things!

Clearly, you don't rspect the Theory of Disparate Impact.  Allow me to elucidate:

Leftists wanted to get totally race-based laws passed to alleviate their twisted, illusory, disembodied out-of-control guilt.  They were able to get many of these through - concentrating on the soft Western underbelly of guilt as the entree - until the courts (after a decade or two) finally figured out that they had made been making a total mockery of our law and logic, in general, in order to allow these race laws and race-based governmental procedures to exist.  The old arguments that "quotas aren't quotas" (the original "It depends on what the meaning of 'is' is", really) couldn't stand even the dimmest of sunlight, so the guilt-ridden leftists needed to find another way to make their race-based laws and procedures, but without making them appear race-based.  So, the lefties went on to reform their race-laws without mentioning race, but specifically designed to have a disparate impact (in the way they originally desired) based on race - even though race was not formally part of the new laws.  This allowed the courts to let this shit through and still claim that they didn't allow race-based law.

Not satisfied with having perverted our system and weakening society in this pathetic process, the leftists then turned around and decided that they could pounce on others for making laws that had any disparate impact, race-wise.  The exact process and motivations behind the leftist race-laws were turned on their head and developed, somehow, into an accepted legal doctrine that any disparities in the impact of any law with respect to race (or other "protected group") were illegal (though the Theory of Disparate Impact is NEVER allowed to be applied to affirmative action law, minority set-asides and the like - and you don't have standing to challenge that, so don't even think about it), only to normal law and procedure and the normal impact that one would expect from them - such as with the Connecticut firefighters.

This is the tale of the Theory of Disparate Impact and how such ridiculous idea came to be in our sick, sick system.  Knowing that, you can now see why your solution would never fly in America - not the America of today.

64 when applications were rejected, black researchers were less likely than whites to revise their work and try again, which Ginther - who had to resubmit several times before winning her own first NIH grant - said suggests a lack of mentoring.

Well that is one theory, but there are several others that fit the data set as well.

1) Poor mentoring.
2) Laziness.
3) Entitlement attitude can't believe they weren't automatically approved.
4) Other options not listed here.

Anyone want to run that study?  I'm sure as it's science and necessary for the NIH grant process that you won't be called a racist bigot regardless of the outcome.

Anyone up for being attacked by liberals for the rest of your life... I mean running a study?
