Senate Democrats Working On Their Own One-Week Stopgap
— Ace

No details-- I don't think they even know yet what the details might be.

I think we can assume it will contain either no cuts at all or a restoration of the cuts already made.

It's just an attempt to claim they passed something, too.

2 They'll have to pass the stop-gap measure to see what's in it.

3 Fucking pathetic.

Posted by: EC at April 07, 2011 03:10 PM (f4TZ2)

4 It's almost as though they had never heard of the Constitution (specifically, Article I, Section 7 - "All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives...")

They can concur with or offer to amend bills from the House, but they don't get to write new spending legislation on their own.

Posted by: Drumwaster at April 07, 2011 03:10 PM (ErS/f)

5

If it's true, it may be that the Dems either stopped sitting on that bill for the troops or it could be that they're introducing their "$73B in cuts" because they want the House to choke on it.

Posted by: Miss'80sBaby at April 07, 2011 03:10 PM (UO6+e)

6 Clusterfuck. That is all. Hope for the best.

Posted by: gesc at April 07, 2011 03:10 PM (x4OJI)

7 Wait. The article says it's the Senate Dems. I didn't think they could do that. I thought the House was responsible for spending legislation. What am I missing?

8 When sworn in, job one will be to declare any budget cuts unconstitutional. Peace.

10 It's political kabuki -- the Senate Dems are realizing that this troop pay thing was a big ol pile of macaca, but they don't want to concede to any House bill yet look like the good guys.

11 Anything to avoid a shutdown, really.  Except the Republican House bill that already passed.  Seriously, because we're f*cksticks.

Posted by: sTevo at April 07, 2011 03:17 PM (VMcEw)

17 Well I *think* they can amend the house bill, keep all the front pages funding the troops and then amend the parts where H1363 was making the cuts. As long as they don't try to claw back the cuts made in the first 2 CR's and its only a week but gives our troops their paychecks I think I'm for it. Of course this might be some D's from military or purple states going for cover and knowing that Reid wont bring it to a vote too.

Nope. Soros and Co. have a random bill generator in SEIU's basement.

Not like it matters. They'll just write, "Save America from Evil Republicans that Want to Kill Grandma Act" on a piece of paper, binder clip it to the top of 5 reams of paper and vote on it. It's not as if anyone ever reads a bill anyhow. They just make shit up, say Republicans are racists, and vote.

31 We need to draft Christie. I know it sounds desperate but we need someone to take it to Obama and we don't have that right now. Well, not anyone who I think could win a general. Who cares if he is fat. Just think if the fat vote we could get! Because, according to Moochelle most of America is fat. We need him and I say make him run! We have to stop this madness.

If I understand correctly, this is likely the short-clean CR the Dems mentioned, so it would be close to what 17 mentioned. Rogers didn't want a clean CR today because it would erase the cuts and the measure was voted-down, but the Rs will be in a bind if they vote-down a measure to fund the troops. An issue the Senate Dems would have to answer, though, is what they would ask for in exchange for keeping the govt open for a few more days until an agreement is reached, if ever.

33 America, your budget problem is solved. We are here to announce we have decided to cut the budget. For the rest of the month, we will forgo the use of public funds for our morning Dunkin Donuts run. We project this to save $100 in donuts, and $25,000,000,000 in manpower and overhead deciding on the flavors and getting them to the office every day.

37 Was this already posted? If so, I apologize....

From Fox Business:

In the event of a government shutdown, some 800,000 federal employees who are furloughed without pay may collect unemployment insurance.

Government workers are covered under the Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees Program, which is funded by the federal government, but administered by the states.

Generally, unemployment claims are filed in the place where you work, not where you live. The states are reimbursed by the federal government for the funds they pay out.

Another violent, radical right-winger.......wait

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to two years in prison for threatening U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia in a YouTube video.

Federal prosecutors say 38-year-old Norman LeBoon was sentenced Thursday to 24 months in prison followed by three years' supervised release. He pleaded guilty in November in connection with the YouTube video posted earlier that year.

Prosecutors say LeBoon called the Republican congressman "a liar" and "a Lucifer" in the video and vowed to shoot him.

LeBoon will be required to get mental health treatment. He is also required to have no contact with Cantor or any member of Cantor's family.

Cantor was voted House majority leader when the Republican-led Congress convened in January.

I imagine it's going to get worse if he continues his pattern of voting for the more hard-hitting RSC budget like he always does. (He's an RSC member.) RSC had a free-rein because they don't have to submit to "the will of the conference", so they were able to do more with their "complementary" budget. But everything is going to get nastier after that.

You've got to hand it to the Dems - they never give up.  I've always begrudgingly respected that part of the liberal mindset (and only that part).   If they would only channel this tenacity and determination towards self-realization and bettering themselves, we wouldn't have nearly as many problems in this country that we do now.

Word. And that's what's going on here. Kasich basically said that he was going to slash and burn the budget and that's exactly what he's doing.

Public unions in Ohio are going apeshit and the local rags are doing their best to lie and stir up opposition and promote class warfare but Kasich won't budge.

Was over at firedoglake earlier today looking at a post regarding O's re-election and those people are seriously demoralized.  They hate him but then remember they hate the GOP more and then they don't want to leave out their hate for big business, MIC, etc, etc, etc.  And this was before the additional Prosser votes were found so they're probably suicidal by now.

Big Gummint says she's famous for being incompetent and not wanting to upgrade her favorite old computer for a new one.

In libtard speak, Democracy= any time our guy wins

Posted by: Prez'nit Vacation at April 07, 2011 07:39 PM (3nrx7)

Amazing how well that has worked for them.  Democracy only if our guy wins or our legislation passes.  Anarchy, illegal campaign contributions, and big corporation special interests when things break for the Repubs.

The MFM will present this as bona fide Republican election fraud, the legitimate traceable votes will be discarded, and Klovenhoof will be declared the winnah.  Just saying!

92 Who cares? As Drumwaster noted (only 4 posts in!) all appropriation bills must originate in the House. This is dumb grandstanding.

95 We need to draft Christie.
