Shots Fired Again On Virginia Tech Campus
— Ace

White man in gray sweatpants and maroon hoodie.

A spree-killer killed 32 on the campus in 2007.

Students have been advised to get in their rooms and stay there.

2 Virginia Tech says shots were reportedly fired near a campus parking lot and authorities have told students to stay inside. The school has a bulletin on their website, which says authorities are looking for a suspect described as a white male, wearing gray sweat pants, a gray hat with a neon green brim, maroon hoodie and a backpack. It says the suspect is on foot and headed towards McComas Hall, the main gym on campus which is about two blocks from Lane Stadium. The school has been placed on lockdown. www.wusa9.com

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) says 'No' to RINO Romney at December 08, 2011 09:19 AM (8y9MW)

13 I hate to make political hay off this, but these gun free zones really do attract violence.

I don't think most of these people would even consider doing this if they didn't have some assurance of this God Mode of having a gun where almost no one else can.

Loughner was basically the exception to the rule.

So sad.  I know the last shooting there has been a clarion call against legalizing guns on campus, but if I were up at Va Tech right now, I would probably wish I had a pistol on me.  Not so I could run around and play hero, but because I'm a law abiding man who wants to be able to protect myself.

14 I'm a little fuzzy on the order of VT's alerts on their home page. It sounds like the incident moved from the Coliseum lot (near some big dorms) to the Cage? That would be good news. Or I'm reading them backwards, which would be awful.

Posted by: JoeInMD at December 08, 2011 09:22 AM (Xwgt3)

Would "the Cage" be closer to the edge of Campus?  If so, that being "good news" might depend on the situation.  It's possible the gunman simply left so he could go around the campus- or is looking for some other victims somewhere.

Basically, the only good news I'll herald as such is "We got him."

Its almost as if these crazed shooters realize nobody on campus will have a gun and be capable of shooting back.

Not sure how they would know this... except of course for the signs posted stating the campus is a target rich environment gun free zone.

29 The basic orientation of the Tech central campus means that the first shooting occurred right across the street where most of the dorms are located. The second shooting location means that the guy moved northwest and away from the main campus. This isn't a great thing because there are several roads and bike paths that lead from"the cage" into the center of the massive apartment complexes that us off-campus students live in. It takes about 25 minutes walking or 10 minutes running to get from the second shooting location into the middle of these complexes. I personally am sitting here with the apartment buttoned up and the Python in hand.

64 Not to cloud a serious tragedy thread with my fond memories of VaTech. The explanation for the romance + D&D at summer camp is easy -- it was an academic summer camp for smarties.

One weird aspect was, at the end of the camp, the hot chick gave me a book to remember her by -- Dianetics.

So apparently she was trying to recruit me into her Scientology cult. I had no idea what Dianetics was at the time, though, so my reaction was, uh, thanks for the book, uh, my parents aren't picking me up for 30 more minutes, please tell me more about your cult while I remove your top.

I'm glad she didn't bring up the whole cult thing until the last hour or so of our acquaintance. If she'd had the whole summer to work on me I'd probably have a shrine to Tom Cruise in my house today.

Yep. Pure speculation, but I suspect the armed robber in Radford was driving a car which the campus cop may have stopped on a BOLO alert and got killed for it. So, the perp needs another car and kills a student in another parking lot trying to car jack one. Sounds like that's the way LE is playing it, anyway, but, if they don't catch him, the whole campus will have to be sterilized, building by building,..room by room.
