— Dave in Texas President Awesome asserted that Israel must create a nation for knuckleheads, and return to the "pre-1967" borders.
Benjamin Netanyahu said "well, no".
Obumble didn't really care to hear that. He likely had no idea that when Israel fought for its survival in the 6-Day War, they faced Arab armies in M-48 Patton tanks. When they say "never again", they really mean it.
In June of 1967, almost a quarter-million Israeli troops, of which only 50,000 were regulars, the rest reservists faced off against a half-million Arab soldiers from Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. Israel prepared by collecting vital intelligence regarding enemy positions, and battle plans, and by launching a devasting air attack against the air forces of the combatants,
late Sunday update (thanks for reading you readers!).
Question asked by Conor Cruise O'Brien in "The Siege".
Does Israel have the right to exist?
Regardless of our answers, they think they do. which resulted in Israel owning the airspace over the battlefield, a force multiplier for their smaller forces against the Arabs. At one point in the desperate struggle, Israel used training jets to strafe enemy runways, to keep them out of the fight.
They fought on three fronts, Gaza and the Sinai, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights. There are many good online references you can check out online to learn more about it. What stands out is, like 1948, and 1956, Israel knew they ultimately stood alone against their enemies. And it was up to them to fight back and win, or be annihilated. And by "annihilated", I mean completely Holocausted off the face of the planet.
Surrounded by their enemies, they taught their enemies "don't fuck with us"
I admire this sentiment.

Excellent post Dave. I was at a party last night and a lib friend of mine decided to extol the virtues of Obama and I launched into all of the above. Also asked him if he was aware Hamas is a terrorist organization and if he understood that is who Obama would have Israel negotiate with despite the fact Hamas wants Israel to be taken off the map and is behind the daily missle attacks on Israel.
Then the lib went into how Obama was the only President to broach the border issue. I then asked him if he knew who attacked Israel in 67 and whether he understood that Egypt wants to totally disintegrate the Camp David Peace Accords.
Also asked him about the American reporter who was savaged in Egypt during the Egyptians' peaceful "revolution." Asked whether he knew what they were chanting while they raped her. Pointed out they were chanting racial epithets against her and Israel.

Obama ( I read this somewhere else) has the sidam touch.
Honestly, I think Obama would prefer the Jews to just kill themselves, but he'll settle for them letting the Arabs do it.
And he's getting pissed that Netanyahu won't lead, follow or get out of the way of that glorious mission.

This sounds ominous though:
The essence of the president’s rage and embarrassment can best be summed up with him yelling out very loudly, “What the f-ck was that!?” That phrase was apparently repeated a number of times in the span of about five minutes, a time period in which Obama’s voice became “louder and louder” and culminating in Obama exclaiming, “Never again! Do you understand me? Never again!” Any response by Bill Daley back to the president, if given, was not overheard.
"Never again" what? Will Obama now cease even minimal support of Israel? Or does mean something even more insidious?

Actually, the Israelis used Sherman tanks from World War II, which they upgunned with French high-velocity 75mm and 105mm cannons. They were designated the M-50 and M-51 and called "Super Shermans" by the rest of the world.
http://tinyurl.com/4xl5ycj
The great strength of the M-50 and M-51 was that they could destroy much more modern tanks before the latter could come close enough to penetrate the Israeli tanks' World War II-era armor.
The M-50 and M-51 were phased out in the early 1980s.

If this is true, it's revealing that Little Barry vented his hysterical wrath on someone who couldn't respond with "fuck off" -- i.e., his own Chief of Staff. The girlchild President would never mouth off like that directly to Netanyahu. Netanyahu is a man; Barry is a girl who is most comfortable with beta males and harpies. They retrained the entire military and reinstated far more rigorous training for reservists. The end result was Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, in which the IDF lost 13 killed in action versus at least 600 Hamas terrorists.
By the way, the IDF really didn't perform all that badly in Lebanon in 2006. Hezbollah showed its hand in terms of tactics, and the IDF had already adapted by the end of the conflict.
Mainly Hezbollah relied on Russian Kornet antitank guided missiles. The Israelis have since deployed the Trophy Active Protection System, which automatically shoots antitank missiles and RPGs out of the air. Trophy successfully intercepts projectiles fired as close as six feet away from the tank. Israeli tanks are now virtually invulnerable.

Long time point of curiosity: Why does Israel keep the existence of their nuclear arsenal a secret? Are they playing head games?

I bet I set a land speed record on that trip. Made every light and hardly saw any other cars. Gotta love Sundays in the South.
Anyway, I went to Arby's where I got a "Medium Beef and Cheddar" and an "Oreo/Mocha Shake" thing that reminded me of the one blaster mentioned. If they hadn't had something like it, I was going to attempt the rare and highly controversial "two stop" fast-food meal and get the original one from Sonic.
Time to eat.

I was not yet 2 in June of 67. One thing I remember in school was that at no point in any history class or book i had in grade school jr high or high school was this ever mentioned. As far as my HS history teachers were concerned, WW1 & WW2 was a minor skirmishes that took all of one day to discuss, but Vietnam took practically the entire year, on account of all the American war crimes that had to be trotted out again and again and again.
I remember at one point in HS, after the gabillionth lecture by one particular 20-something lefty princess of a teacher barely out of her Berkeley diapers about how Mi Lai was much more important in US history than D-Day or Beleau Wood ever were, I stood up dropped my history book on her desk and walked out of class followed by a few of my classmates.
Our teacher went straight to our Korean War vet Vice-Principal demanding that we be suspended. With us standing right there next her, he laughed and told her to deal with it. A few months later at a graduation party attended by this same VP, I and my 17-year old walkout friends not legally allowed to drink poured him a beer out of the keg and thanked him for standing up to us.

Remeber in 2009 the Dickhead in Chief was talking about nuclear disarmament and even mentioned Israel?
That's why Israel doesn't admit to having nukes. So some A-hole, any A-hole, can't insist they be disarmed of something they've never admitted to having in the first place.

I mostly hate Hollywood movies. I'll give them this: they'll go after the zombies and walking dead with quite succinctness, unless the plot is about white men in corporations, who are screwing the world with their greed, and leaving the working class (o.k., paid $75 an hour to secure a door on a Volt, or be your children's teacher. Now don't forget, with the union push, a teacher may take 5 days off, for no reason. At all.) This the "personal day", when no excuse is required or wanted.

I wouldn't use the word obligated. Pressured or maybe sanctioned would be more appropriate. They'd be treated like a rogue regime. Retaining the position of neither affirming nor denying Israel has nuclear weapons is a better, more prudent, path for the Israeli government to take.

In December 2004, the "The Committee of the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign" registered 25,000 "martyrs" to infiltrate Iraq. [Source: Matthew Levitt's testimony before Congress, 16 Feb 2005. PDF linked.] They've since moved on to targeting Europe; the Iranians claim 40,000 martyrs as of mid-2006 [Sunday Times of London]. In Islam, martyrdom is death in the cause of Allah, which to a Khomeinist means in the cause of Shi'ite government. I don't think these thousands are showing up as missionaries.
To sum up... "boned".

Again, everyone knows that Israel has a nuclear arsenal
Everyone says the know, but they don't have any confirmation.
Without confirmation no foreign government or groups of foreign governments(eg. European Union or the U.S.) can take any action against Israel, sanctions Israel if they don't give up their nukes, based on a mere guess.

They may decide that Iran is the reason to show their cards, or they may not. ErikW is correct about Israeli reasoning being inscrutable.
Most other nations would have decided to wallop the Lebanese for harbouring Hizb'allah terrorists they way Lebanon have. If the stories of Libya's chemweapon stocks being raided by Hama and Hizb'allah earlier this year are true then this year we may get a peek at some of Israel's cards.

according to Michael B Oren's definitive work Six Days of War, Israeli casualties were 2,563 wounded and maybe 800 dead. In per capita terms that would be equivalent to 80,000 American dead, significantly more than the total American dead for the duration of the Vietnam War. So while the victory was certainly swift and complete, it was not quite the bloodless victory as portraited by the press at the time.
it is also very revealing how much internal discussion and soul searching were involved before the decision to go to war was made.

They were shooting out to 7000m with the 105s the tanks were dug in and parked on a ramp to get elevation.
I don't know much about tanks, but I do understand ballistics from shooting rifles for 30 years. 45* is the angle that gives the furthest ranges for projectiles. Higher angles send the projectile higher up, but they land closer. I would assume that all tanks are designed to allow the barrels to point up at least 45*. I'm not understanding the ramp thing.

No, tanks are not designed to elevate their guns to 45 degrees. The breech wouldn't fit in the turret. Tank main guns will elevate to about 10 degrees or so. And their gunsights aren't designed for that kind of indirect fire. Actually, a more important interest in tank design is increasing the amount by which the gun can be depressed -- to improve the ability to set up "hull-down" behind a ridgeline.polo shirt for men
