Slow Sunday Afternoon - American Heroes
— Dave in Texas

Instead of having to travel around the world I got a reprieve at the last minute, so I'm chillin outside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and life is awesome.

Came across this old story, it's a good one though.

Nominated for the Medal of Honor 3 times. Was awarded this decoration in 1971. 8 Purple Hearts. Silver Star. 4 Bronze Stars. 2 Distinguished Service Crosses. Perhaps the most decorated veteran in the recent era.

He passed in 2009. RIP soldier.

1 I know that guy.  He soldiered in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan.  Yes, I often reminisce about "Gangsta" Khan, as I liked to call him.
I think he stole my hat though.

7 The new Marine Corps Museum has the most beautiful display for all the medal of honor winners. If anyone gets a chance to go there it is well well worth it. Quantico, Va. 30 min south of DC non-rush. 3 hours during rush hour.

was finally awarded the Medal of Honor. He learned of the award over a two-way radio while under enemy fire, immediately after being wounded, resulting in one of his eight Purple Hearts.

Brass fucking balls.

Godspeed, good sir.

I remember when Steve Carbone won in the late 90s, I didn't think he still called the show.  Second place wasn't bad for him though.

He'd never be invited. Golfers are overwhelmingly conservative.

In the early 90's, Tom Watson was the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team and when Clinton wanted to meet them before they headed to the U.K., the team said no. They eventually did meet but it was uncomfortable to say the least.

52 Truck Monkey, when we had this type of catastrophe at a property, the maintenance company would wet-vac, then pull up the carpets and blow some really heavy-duty fans under them -- usually for days -- until dry.  I think you can rent those fans at the Home Depot and places that rent stuff.  There's also some kind of product you can spray or sprinkle to keep the mildew effect at bay.

It's why you don't pay hostage-takers, and it's why you don't let human shields be shields.

If you pay for something, you get more of it. Basic economics. If murder works as political intimidation, it will become the norm.

*Europe* is boned because they won't deal with that idea. People want to get to B but they don't want to leave A to do it, what's between is too scary.

116 Our son's friend was a 28 year old Eagle Scout, who accompanied a group of Savannah Boy and Girl Scouts on the first (and only) Russian-U.S. Scout Exchange a few years ago.  He was like a big brother to our son and others.

He apparently fell asleep at the wheel of the tanker he was driving on I-95 around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning.  The truck in front of him literally stopped his vehicle and pulled both of them off the road.  As the driver approached him, the tanker exploded, trapping David inside.

I had to tell our son about it on Skype the other night.

B'Gal and I were just on the back porch commenting on how good life is ourselves. I was sipping a cold Guinness as we await the kids coming over with the love of my life, the 5yo granddaughter. Sure, we have to scramble for money, but other than that, things could be much worse. And they aren't.

Been watching the Masters and poor Rory's meltdown. Someone needs to remind him that being ranked 9th in the world is still pretty good for being his age.

Bob Howard is a real American (and probably a cousin, being as how us Alabamians are so close, IFKWIMAITYD), guys like him don't come along often enough. They are a stark contrast to the idiots in Washington who think we can win a politically correct war with no civilian casualties.

But enough bitching. I have another cold beer to save from an icy death before the kids get here.

That was me logprob, I am having the same problem. I tried all the fixes people suggested but it's still the same. It isn't just you tube either. I was just watching a newsclip on ABC and it was doing the same thing.

I don't know what's causing it.

No I use IE. The only thing I found was on windows media player when I ran the automatic fix it said it may have found settings that have been changed, really I thought you were supposed to fix that?

Someone said an update could have changed it but who knows. I am going to call my provider tomorrow and see if they know what it could be.

183 Just finished tax preparation. Looks like I'm getting about $25000 back. I hope I didn't screw up somewhere.

This is funny, because the last night we were there (Thursday), after dinner with friends, I said, Hey, hon, we have to gamble just a little bit.  And so, after having been there fifteen years ago, D'oh hit the Blackjack table and won enough money to pay for all our dinners, cab rides, and even the "emergency" limo we took from the Venetian to Caesar's for dinner (winds of 50 mpg).  Luckily, he knew when to Walk Away.

190 Jane. Good to hear you came out ahead. Doesn't happen often.

Posted by: Ronster at April 10, 2011 05:07 PM (aQjWt)

191 Ronster, we're not gamblers.  However, D'oh has this "thing" about luck or something.  He picked a table, sat down, played two hands beating everyone at the table, and we got up and left.  It's the first time he's played Vegas in fifteen years.

192 Jane. I gamble very little. Hurts me too much when I lose.
