So, you think you've got hair on your chest? [Fritzworth]

After the jump is a video that will (in the Bard's immortal words) make you hold your manhood cheap:
Jeb Corliss by wazzabii

To lift a line I read elsewhere on the 'net this week, the real question is how does he fit his huevos into that wingsuit? Hat tip to Gerard Van der Leun over at American Digest. ..fritz..

P.S. My comments aren't meant to slight crazy brave females -- I just think that most women of any intelligence would have more sense than to jump off a tall cliff in a wingsuit, even with a parachute on their backs.

I thought this was gonna be about that tranny freak who said, "Chaz Bono stole my thunder."

The tranny freak, a.k.a. the first pregnant man, lobbied unsuccessfully to be on Dancing With The Stars/Freaks.

Seemed pretty freaking real to me, so if so that in itself would be impressive.

But these days anything could be fake, I guess.  Alex Jones loves the era we live in.

Anyway.

There's a vid out there of a guy doing this, only out of a plane and into a gorge, in N.Mexico / Utah and hitting a bridge on the way down.

Not a pretty sight.

12 Hell, I've gone down a lot faster than that.

Posted by: The Obama Economy at September 01, 2011 09:08 AM (MMC8r)

13 I want to do that, but I don't think I'm in shape for it now. I also want to know if you can flare and land in water or if you'd just tumble and break everything anyway. Seems like if I ever went skydiving, I'd want to wear one of those because if the parachute didn't open, at least you have some control of your vector and can reduce your vertical speed on impact. One also wonders how many people have done that at night/dusk/dawn in other places just to screw with people on the ground. "What was that? Did you see that!?!?"

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at September 01, 2011 09:09 AM (bxiXv)

14 Oh yeah.  I could do that.  If I could keep from screaming like a nine year old school girl and dying from fright.  Piece of cake.

I didn't watch the vid, or really look at the post.

Posted by: garrett at September 01, 2011 09:10 AM (oLjtN)

16 I saw another vid a while back of someone, probably the same guy as the terrain looks the same, doing some fairly long low passes over grassy fields.

19 I wanna know how you learn to do something like this.  I mean, presumably you practice with the suit on regular jumps, but I don't see how that would help you judge distances for things that are relatively close.

Yeah, the potential for screwing with people seems incredibly high.  Especially if you dressed it up to look more like a superhero outfit.

In stages?  First you try the initial descent, then add more the next time, until you figure you can make it to the next drop off.

Even the guy was a little surprised at how close he was, so... Even he knew he was pushing it.

Posted by: alexthedude at September 01, 2011 09:22 AM (iLD9h)

That's a good point.  It's like holding out huge dumbells for several minutes.

Is the suit reinforced or rigid to make that easier?  I doubt it.  The whole thing looked super light weight, including the carbon helmet.

Posted by: Dustin at September 01, 2011 09:48 AM (fF625)

35 When you all have time to kill, look up "wing suits" and "base jumping" on YouTube.  There are some equally or even more incredible than this.  That said, Obama is a clusterfuck of a miserable failure.

37 > 13 I want to do that, but I don't think I'm in shape for it now. I also want to know if you can flare and land in water or if you'd just tumble and break everything anyway. I don't think so. With such a small surface area for the wings you only have control at high speeds. Slow down and you crash.

Skydiving is the perfect lazy man's sport. All you have to be able to do is roll out of a door.

And no, it's not that hard to hold your arms out - the maximum you have to hold up is your own weight.

Just for the record, I have 236 jumps.

Posted by: West at September 01, 2011 10:15 AM (1Rgee)

42

It's a compilation of wingsuit jumps from the same mountain and same jumper...but it isn't fake.

Average jump lasts about a minute to a minute and a half. Longest 'flight' is about six miles, IIRC. At around a hundred miles per hour, they drop about three feet for every foot of forward momentum. iow, the grade and steepness of the mountain in the video is much steeper than the video it looks.

 See also: "Close proximity wingsuit."

44 It's not true that there are no women crazy enough to do stuff like this. This guy's girlfriend is an Italian woman, a champion skydiver, who has done a number of wingsuit jumps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4CA9564qvk Even better, she is extremely hot and physically fit, and does nude modeling on the side. She will occasionally do nude skydiving too.
