— Ace Rick Perry announced he'd have a special guest tonight, and invited people to speculate about it on his website page.
Sarah Palin was a popular guess, but she's not coming; she had been invited by the debate's sponsors.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal just endorsed Perry, so that's his guest.
On Romney's side, he'll be bring Tim Pawlenty, who just endorsed him.
Tim Pawlenty's endorsement is helpful, but then, Tim Pawlenty previously criticized Romney sharply on RomneyCare, calling it ObamneyCare, and also saying that Romney couldn't adequately "prosecute" the case against ObamaCare, being a "co-conspirator" in its creation.
Of course, as candidates drop out, all of their endorsements of those still remaining in the race are going to have that flip-flop sort of aspect to them.
Rush Limbaugh warned candidates not to demagogue on Social Security, calling Romney out by name, but not mentioning Bachmann.

My guess who will endorse who.
Bachman, Santorum, Cain and Gingrich will endorse Perry
Huntsman will endorse Romney
And Ron Paul will stay in the race to raise funds that he'll keep when he retires.

Bobby Jindal is respected by all wings of the Republican party. The guy is a real life genius, and he's got conservative bona fides.

Jindel is a good (not surprising catch) for Perry. TPaw is ok for Mitt.
once again need to look at this from the general election perspective. In the general do you need the support of a deep red southern state gov (Jindel) or of a swing state governor in the midwest (MN)? We'll see.
The most anticipated endorsements will be Nikki Haley and Sarah Palin. Haley could help swing SC to her person while Palin could help swing the whole GOP nomination. Rubio would also be a big catch for FL

What little respect and faith I had for T-Paw just died. It is clear he is just an establishment operator.
Posted by: MikeTheMoose Camellia Sinensis Operative at September 12, 2011 12:23 PM (0q2P7)
Disagree.
These are specifically Primary endorsements. What will matter in the general is how strongly the also-rans get behind the eventual candidate.
If Romney loses, how strongly will he campaign for Perry (or vice versa)? How strongly will those who endorsed the eventual 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) place finisher campaign for the eventual winner?
The fact is, most people don't even know who T-Paw is (well, more, now, since he's been an actual candidate, but still not 'most'), and even fewer probably know who Bobby Jindal and Haley Barbour are. Their endorsements matter only within the "politically-plugged-in" class and inside their own states, really.

#40 I thought Rush talked more about Bachmann than Romney on this.
Rush is right that the GOP needs to get back to focusing on O and his miserable performance.
That said, the book Fed Up is a major chink in Perry's armor that he will need to overcome and be prepared for if he is the nominee. Rush and others need to realize that Perry needs to take his lumps now to be better for the general.

>>>A southern governor from a neighboring state.. Barbour? Sounds like Foghorn Leghorn.
Two of the first four primary states are southern states, South Carolina and Florida. Iowa is a socially conservative state unfriendly to Romney.
It's looking extremely likely that Perry will sweep three of the four with large margins. This is evidenced by Mitt Romney's extremely deparate SS scaremongering in Florida.
Jindal is a big get. He's very popular with conservatives all over America, not just in the South. His name was on the list of presidential candidates people wanted not too long ago.
As for Barbour, I don't think his endorsement will mean anything in terms of votes, but he had a large faction of the GOP and access to lots and lots of fundraising cash, and you can't discount how important money is to a national election.
I think this election will hinge on New Hampshire. If Perry can win new hampshire or only lose a by a few percentage points, then it's all over for Mitt. He can't lose 3 of the first four primary states and win it all. Republicans like to fall into line. If Perry is steam rolling, they'll jump on the bandwagon and leave Mitt behind

I listened to the show and he did mention Bachmann on that very point. Let me go check. [re-listens to archive] he says the name "Michelle Bachmann" on that point at minute 2 of his first hour.
"And I'm hearing that Michelle Bachmann is preparing to lay into Rick Perry on his comments about social security being a Ponzi Scheme; I would like to warn everybody n* be careful here because you're pandering to the media, you're pandering to the left wing media by jumping on Perry on this Ponzi Scheme..."

Cain endorsed Romney last election, will again this time. Gingrich is a lot more likely to go with Romney, dreaded establishment type. Bachmann would have a very hard time going for Perry after her bashing of him, today's new web ad is pretty tough.
Most endorsements mean squat at the end of the day.
...............
I still don't get why ANYONE would endorse Romney. He is the most phony candidate in the field. This is what Romney version 4.0? He ran to the LEFT of Kennedy in 92 Senate race (Version 1.0), then when he ran for Governor he ran as a pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, tax and spend "Republican" (That was version 2.0), then in 2008 he was ran to the right of Tom Tancredo on illegal immigration, suddenly he was Pro-Life, and social conservative. (Version 3.0). Now we are on version 4.0, expect Version 5.0 soon enough.

#46 Understood but behind the endorsement is the message that they think that candidate should be the nominee so how they will do in the general must come into their thinking. Or else we have another Angle/O'Donnell situation (note I'm not comparing Perry to Angle/O'Donnell).
It has been said it will be Perry vs Romney. That can be spun a bunch of ways (somewhat conservative vs Rino, career politician vs Businessman, establishemnet vs. more establishment) so we'll see who wins
"Their endorsements only matter with the plugged in and in their states" - agree - that is why I was wondering if support in a deep red southern states is needed more than in a midwestern swing state

>>>Like I said I can't wait for the Bolton endorsement. That should be fun. You would think that Perry would have picked up more than one endorsement by a Governor since he was the leader of the Republican Governors Association when he announced. Maybe this will open up the endorsement gates.
I'd be surprised if Bolton endorsed Romney. I'm not even sure what Romney's foreign policy is anyway.
I'm guessing that Perry had the Jindal endorsement in his pocket and was planning on playing it a lot later, but the T-Paw endorsement forced his hand.
I would assume that most candidates already have supporters who will endorsement lined up and are simply waiting for good moments to use said endorsements.
So I'm guessing both Romney and Perry have a pocket full of endorsements that they'll play as needed as the campaigns progress.

As someone mentioned above, if Perry wins 3 of the first 4, it may as well already be over. The same, of course, would be true the other way around- if Romney won 3 of the first 4, it may as well be over.
As for whose endorsement is "bigger," I think you have to look at current "shinning star" types- and none of them, that I know of, have made any announcements. These would be your Scott Walkers, or Marco Rubios, your Allen West's or your Paul Ryan's. Wait for them to start moving.

Yeah, but in a state by state election, a popular person in that state can influence votes.
For example, let's say Pat Toomey were to endorse Perry, it would make it considerably harder for Mitt to win a state that he should by all accounts win. (in reality it won't matter, we vote April 22, long after the race is over).
But the point is there are states where an endorsement can have a big effect.

Yeah, but sometimes the only thing you have in suit is the King. Then, you throw the King. It does look bad if one candidate is racking up endorsements (remember: quantity has a quality all its own) and one candidate is not. So it's possible that, while he might have liked to wait a little bit to pull out the Jindal endorsement, it was the least over-kill he had.
Who decides who wins?
Errr... voters? Mine was simply a statement of fact. In a multi-way race, if one candidate takes 75% of the first 4 primaries, virtually everyone will throw in with that candidate.
He must be a RINO.
Okay, now you're getting annoyingly stupid. In 2008 the race was very, very different. Functionally, you had Romney, Huckabee, McCain, and then a variety of "also-rans." Of those, Romney was, hands down, the most conservative.
Stop acting all butt-hurt when we point out that, with this set of options, that is no longer the case. As I recall, people were really only enthused about Romney in relation to McCain in 2008- had Thompson come out and actually campaigned, or Guiliani not been quite so dumb as to hang his hat entirely on Florida, we might have had a different primary season altogether.

Not really no.
Everyone already knows Bachmann is out in the tea party wing. There's one "tea party" candidate bashing Social Security and he's kicking her ass and stealing her base.
Bachmann trying to attack SS to differentiate herself from Perry would do jack-squat. The voters who like their (joint) message have been deserting her hand over fist for Perry. It's quite aptly demonstrated by all the polling ever since Perry entered - if their position is the same, she'll lose to him. I won't bother to speculate why in this comment because it's irrelevant why, really; she will.
This would be one more place she's like Perry, and one more place Perry ends up preferred. The only way she can do anything with this issue is if she positions herself uniquely as the far-right Tea Party candidate who won't wreck social security... and see whatever that get's her, if anything.
I hope, if she goes that route, it ends up being a bad bet because Social Security sucks.

Also, with Mittens going around screaming that Perry wants grandma to eat catfood, it's fairly impossible (in perception - which dictates votes - not policy) to outflank him to the right on this one.
Even without considering that it was also already impossible before Mittens went after him, because the dude has the balls to call it a ponzi scheme in broad public. That shit is pressing the overton window right there. Best you can hope for is a tie because Perry is actually leading the way on this issue.

I too backed Mitt in 2008 given the options we had. To me Huckabee was George W. Bush part 2, McCain was a democrat, and Romney was someone who had business experience. (actually I backed the Fred first but he fizzled out almost immediately.)
Now given our options I am backing Perry. I didn't dislike Mitt a whole lot until he did the SS scaremongering. To me that is unforgiveable.

Posted by: Entropy at September 12, 2011 04:48 PM (IsLT6)
It'll be interesting nonetheless to see how she approaches this. Of course, God help us, if Perry starts backtracking in any way, then it'll be open season on him from all the candidates.
BUT. Perry has the double-digit lead. I don't see him backing down.

I concur, but he's not going to come out backing Romeny, that's for sure. Tancredo is one of those, "only I am a true conservative types" and while I like the guy, what he says won't mean much.
The problem for Romney is that he's not really to the right of Perry on any of the issues. So anytime someone says, "Well Perry isn't conservative enough on this issue" , there won't be much benefit for Romney because he is less conservative.
Posted by: Ben at September 12, 2011 12:57 PM (wuv1c)
#124 - Tonight should be interesting if it really turns out to be a Tparty event.
Romney isn't a Tea Party favorite but Perry is a come lately to them so their support of him isn't guaranteed. Also remember seeing a few articles that said that being a Tea party member doesn't mean they are anti social security so don't assume Perry's position is a winner with them.

ObamaÂ’s people know their only hope is to find the two nuns and the midget from that one drunken night. Perry has not been vetted and that should scare the hell out of everyone who wants Obama gone in 2012.
That's kind of frank bullshit. What the hell are you talking about? The dude is the longest serving Governor of Texas. Texas Dem's have thrown everything at him, including the kitchen sink and also a second, gay kitchen sink for good measure.
Not vetted? Are you the demagogued or the demagogous? That's just ... like, flat out make up nonsense Chewbacca territory. How do you think the fact that Perry is a Anton LaVey style Satanist will effect his election chances?
And the solution to this is.... Sarah Palin?!?!?

Nope, he hasn't been vetted at all. He's only won 3 Gubernatorial races in Texas, plus races for the Texas House, Ag Commissioner, and Lt. Governor. In the most recent Governor's race, he was "vetted" by both the Rove and Clinton machines.
Perry has not been nationally vetted- and that's a whole different thing. He'll survive the national vetting process.

I've always thought Tancredo was a xenophobic crank, but I'd classify myself as a centrist on the immigration issue. The only thing about Perry's immigration record that I find irksome is the E-Verify stuff. Perry's simply not going to win primary voters who prioritize immigration, just like Romney's not going to win those who favor healthcare.

I just skimmed Pawlenty's rationale for the endorsement. What made you come to that conclusion? T-Paw emphasized Romney's private sector experience, which is certainly a plus in Romney's candidacy. He didn't mention this, but both men were governors of blue states, facing an opposition legislature. Maybe Pawlenty thought this was an advantage when dealing with Congress.

Let me rephrase for clarityÂ…
I like Perry. I will vote for Perry.
The idea that “Texas Dem's have thrown everything at him, including the kitchen sink and also a second, gay kitchen sink…” simply underscores the lack of understanding people have with the level of opposition research Perry is going to face.
There is no debate on policy. There is no debate on results. The only thing Obama has to spend a billion dollars on with laser-like focus is dirt dug up on Perry. Still, some would argue that three hippies in Austin have uncovered everything humanly possible about Perry with their Texas Democrat Oppo-Research Budget (about $32.50).
Remember, John Edwards had great hair too.

There was actually a good Vanity Fair (I think it was) article about Huntsman and Romney a while back that jives with what I have heard from Utahns (and LDS members). The animosity springs in large part from the Olympics. When the SLC Olympics organizing was in disarray (and I think on the verge of bankruptcy), the call went out for people to apply to take charge. IIRC Huntsman (Jr) felt he should not have to "apply," so he was royally teed-off when Romney won the position. Then, to add insult to injury, Romney did what I've heard universally to be a wonderful job turning them around.
If you read the article, you can tell that Huntsman's mom still holds a lot of resentment toward Mitt. I've had it confirmed by quite a few folks that she holds grudges. The father is a major philanthropist and (I think) high up in the Church, so he is I gather somewhat removed from all of this and seems well-liked here. But Huntsman is not popular around here at all, especially when compared to Mitt.

This is so obtuse I don't know where to begin. Just in 2010 (forget the ones before that, but they were quite nasty enough, thankyouverymuch), Rick Perry went against Kay Bailey Hutchison (in the Primary) who was supported and advised by no less than Karl Rove. With all that implies. His Democrat opponent, Bill White, was supported and partially bank-rolled by the Clintons. If you don't think those two groups turned over every rock they could find, you're deluding yourself.

All I meant by "wife issues" re Daniels was her unwillingness for him to run for POTUS. Nothing more.
Yes, but by all I infer from "wife issues" he pretty much needs to dump the bitch, and spend 10 years shooting testosterone suplements into his eyeball and training martial arts with Chuck Norris before he stands a chance at getting anywhere near the white house.

I was planning on sitting out the election this fall, since nothing is really contested and Bobby's not worth voting for absent a Democrat challenger. Still, odds are pretty damned good that he'll be Vice President 16 months from now so I guess I'd better be sure I choose wisely between the two scumbags in the lieutenant gov's race.
Bobby would have a much more compelling narrative if he'd actually done something in four years as governor besides wink-and-nod at the gang of organized criminals known as the Louisiana Legislature, but "Perry/Jindal" will look very good on campaign signs, the future running mate speaks very well, and the whole young/ethnic thing will fit the bill very nicely.
Geaux, Bobby, Geaux!

Allen, I don't know jwest's level of devotion to Saint Sarah, but for the most dedicated Palinistas, everything revolves around Sarah and her experiences are parallel to all other politicians. The media and nation at-large knew relatively little about Palin prior to the 2008 national campaign, ergo the media and nation know nothing about Perry right now. Forget the fact that we have four different media markets in Texas that are larger than the entire state of Alaska. Forget the fact that the DNC has been itching to flip our state legislature the past five years. Stuff like that is completely beyond them.

Anyway, if Bachmann does attack Perry for this, its over for her. She'll lose every reason anyone is backing her. If she attacks him, she becomes a hack politician and loses her tea party membership card. Oh and she deserves the same ridicule that Romney gets. Romney is such a disgrace with his flyers and robo calls to seniors in Florida saying Perry wants 'to destroy SS and medicare!!11!!1' it makes me sick. What a hack.

Endorsements usually amount to jackshit. But if its a former candidate its much more important.
Romney gets Pawlenty donor lists, email lists, staff, research on the early states. If it swings 5% of the Iowa vote into the Romney, it could be huge.
Posted by: Winning at September 12, 2011 01:27 PM (yzA37)
Well, I didn't intend that, but I know there was a lot of talk like that, so I do apologize for phrasing it that way.
I had hoped that when Pawlenty dropped out quickly (after Rick jumped in) it was a sign that he'd had some discussions with Perry about a VP slot. I am not a Pawlenty fan (never was), but I could see a solid regional argument for him on a Perry ticket (because I think Florida is pretty secure already and Rick needs help in the upper Midwest).
As a governor, I actually prefer Daniels over Pawlenty, so I'd be quite happy to swap out Pawlenty (now that he has hitched his trailer to Mitt) with Daniels. Indiana went for Obama last time, but one would certainly hope they'd go red this time. Daniels has that "competent manager" thing going, which would be a nice foil to Perry's style.
As someone said up thread, none of these things mean a heckuva lot, but it is nice when one goes your way. I'm certainly happy about Jindal.

Oh well. Romney has a lot of time left to come out ahead. It's foolish to think he'll give up a second earlier than absolutely necessary. Just look at 2008. Romney will stick it out, just if there's a chance.
And I respect that. Romney is a AAA grade politician. Just not much of a leader. We could do worse.
Thankfully, we can do better.

I wouldn't go that far. Jindal, besides being a minority, doesn't really bring anything to the ticket. Louisiana has been moving more red anyway, so I don't think he'd be a huge help there, and his policies largely mirror Perry's.
I find it much more likely he'd pick Bachman (woman from the North), or Rubio (to shore up the FL vote) or maybe even someone from the Northwest.

If Mitt brings it up again tonight, I'd like Perry to ask Romney to clarify which Romney is on stage tonight- the one who thought that SS is analogous to a criminal act worthy of jail time in the private sector, or the one who doesn't like SS being referred to as a Ponzi scheme?

Your comments defy logic here.....I agree about the fact that there will be a tsunami of oppo research...but that is true with Palin too. She was crushed by them last time and it has not let up and it will only get worse for ANY R candidate. So you cannot base your fear of Obama on what they will do to smear any candidate, as that is their plan for all candidates. As far as vetted, he has been to the extent he has run campaings in TX to attain the governor's office and the DEMS have worked hard to topple R governors over the years.

I'd say it's lame in the general sense and the political sense. Perry's lead over Romney won't be made up unless someone else enters the race to dilute it a bit. Even with more folks getting in, Romney has alienated himself with the base too many times. He can't win the nom just on the basis that he supposedly appeals to indies. He needs a big chunk of the base.

The problem I see with Daniels is I would prefer a potential future presidential candidate as vice president. And since he did defer to his wife not wanting that much scrutiny a presidential campaign would bring I can't see that changing 8 years from now. Probably wouldn't care for the scrutiny of even the vice presidential candidate end of it either.
Though he'd probably run circles around Biden. But that's likely to be true for almost any option.

Based on my limited reading on Indiana, Daniels has done a wonderful job as governor. If national politics isn't right for his family, that's their decision, and an admirable one at that. I know he'll campaign like hell for whoever the GOP nominee is in Indiana, and with any luck, put the state back into our column. If he wants to hit the lecture circuit after that and focus more on being a husband and father, more power to him.
Posted by: Oily Taitz at September 12, 2011 01:46 PM (TUax9)
Well, that's like saying that besides 200,000 troops, D-Day didn't really bring anything to France. Republicans would very much like a minority on the ticket as one of the faces of the party, and this has been an enormous factor in Jindal's national appeal from the beginning.
The last time a VP candidate was picked with the intention of carrying a state was John Edwards in '04 (which didn't work out). The GOP hasn't tried it since (arguably) 1980.
Jindal's policies, to the extent he can be said to have any, can be summed up as "spend and campaign".

If that's all they want, that's stupid. We're not going to win the minority vote- especially not by pandering (in the truest sense of the word). I don't want a minority/woman just because they're a minority or a woman. I want someone of substance- if I can then add "minority" or "woman" to the mix, so much the better.
In the case of a VP slot, "substance" should be defined as "covering bases the Pres. Candidate does not." So, Perry (as a "safe, white, dude" as a local talk-show host is fond of saying) is free to pick a woman and/or minority, but he needs to look at putting states in play, or locking up otherwise battle-ground states, or that kind of thing first.

Strategically, he'd make sense for Perry. He's well-liked on the RINO side, but with good conservative and managerial credentials. And, he's midwestern. I think that can't be overlooked, particularly as being governor of the state that borders Chicago and actually went for Obama in 2008 (extremely unlikely in 2012).
As to the whole wife thing, the game is different for a VP. The campaign is shorter and the VP's job is to take the attention off of him and put it on Obama.
Daniels and Jindal and Rubio would be on Perry's short list, for sure. There are various reasons why he wouldn't pick any one of them, not the least of which would be private interviews.

I like Mitch a lot. The wife thing is kinda rough. You would think if you're wife left you and you took her back that you would be calling the shots in the relationship from then on, but it doesn't appear that way. It just don't look good to be that p-whipped. Other than that he seems like a great guy.
Posted by: Ben at September 12, 2011 02:01 PM (tEGzl)
If Perry is nominated, he should choose someone who'll enhance the conservative ticket, no matter what state or ethnicity a person has. If it's Jindal, it would be a good choice. But it would be the same for any good conservative.

The dude got a huge amount of conservative reform done. He accomplished a lot. He's another example of conservative leadership working.
Yeah, the guy cares about his wife's wishes. If you think that makes him a pussy then you are mentally ill. Being related to the president has to suck. honestly, Daniels goes up in my estimation for refusing to run. Some things are more important than power. The guys who would sell their soul and reinvent themselves every five minutes for another percentage point: those are the real pussies.
But no, Daniels probably won't be the VP candidate.
Posted by: Dustin at September 12, 2011 05:56 PM (fF625)
Daniels sort of suffered from "death by a thousand cuts." So while the missteps and perceptions alone won't be a dealbreaker they combined together to turn people off.

Rick Perry as THE Tea Party candidate? Nice try. Perry is a wheeler-dealer, backroom crony capitalist pol. His MO is Gardasil, jet flights on his patrons' aircraft - patrons who are under federal and state investigations, and the Trans-Texas Corridor debacle. That ain't Tea Party material - that's pay to play Texas style.
Posted by: mrp at September 12, 2011 02:03 PM (HjPtV)
It may be stupid but it will be a huge factor nonetheless. If Jindal were just another white guy nobody would ever have heard of him, but his ethnicity, packaged with his looks, speaking ability and wonkishness, have made him a prime candidate for national office for nearly a decade now. It's the exact same reason so many conservatives are high on Marco Rubio and have promoted him as a potential running mate this year, and possible nominee down the line. (The difference between Jindal and Rubio is that Rubio, so far, has lived up to all of his promise.)
Well, like I said, it's been a long time since putting states in play has been a consideration when picking running mates. It simply doesn't seem to be a priority anymore, and since somebody mentioned LBJ 1960, that's the last election in which it actually worked. Presidential politics have become so regionally stratified that I doubt any running mate for either party would make a difference in carrying any state.

G is enormously popular in the Northeast and New England- hence why he was called by many Republicans campaigning last year throughout. He would help Perry in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, hell even Connecticut. Mind you, we won't win New York, but there would be a reason to do media buys in Philadelphia AND New York City, enough to send Obama scrambling. If O is facing losses in the 95 corridor, he's fucked more than he already is.

You don't really know the details.
And it's none of our business.
And if you've lived a normal life, I bet I could find something like this about you or someone you care about.
A real marriage that overcame some drama would be forgiving and a partnership. It would matter to Mitch how running for President affected his entire family, and if he knew it would ruin their lives, he would decline to run.
Makes perfect sense to me.
"It just don't look good to be that p-whipped."
And you aren't? I am. Proudly. I wouldn't do something that would ruin my wife's life. She wouldn't do something that would ruin mine. Most of these politicians are not like that.
It's not really pussy-whipped to ask your family. To be honest, the good politicians do ask their family and care very much. Palin has made a bit of a show out of asking her family what they think of her running, and it's sincere. She can't function without her family.
Perry's kids appear to have actually pushed him to run.
Obama, on the other hand, ran way too early, when his kids still had some childhood. They won't get that childhood, and are probably deeply weird elitists by now. Look at what it did to JFK's kids. I wouldn't do that to my kids, but then, I wouldn't let Rev Wright baptize my kids for a little street cred, either.
We should want leaders who put family first. A lot of people assume the ugliest shit about Daniels and his family, and then judge... I don't get it.
The guy has done more for conservatism than anyone else in this thread. Probably more than everyone else in this thread, combined. He took the unions on years ago.

Until he snuck into NH two months ago and delivered a formulaic "regret", Rick Perry viciously attacked, for months, everyone one who opposed his Gardasil power grab.

Well there is still lots of debate about that, but let's assume that SCOTUS is in fact the arbiter of truth on that topic. SS in only legal because it is *specifically* made legal by law. Generally it is illegal.
If I were to attempt to set up a private retirement system on the same basis, I would be arrested.
So to say that it is perfectly legal, is, a sort of misargument. It is perfectly legal only because the government has decided to do it. It doesn't make it sustainable, or even ethical, and under any other guise, it would be fraudulent.

Rick Perry had said the same thing about Gardasil since he signed the EO (I believe, it could have been a law, though) that undid his original EO- he was "too far in front" and had handled it wrong.
The fact is: he still doesn't think he was wrong, but that the people do- and he'll respect their wishes. The same is true of TTC (in all respects, really).

I believe it was an EO. The legislature was passing a bill to undo his EO. So rather than sign it he just rescinded his previous EO. He probably figured that method would be easier if there ever was a time that the legislature might be open to a law to include it as one of the school vaccinations. Can just write a law for that and not one to overturn the old law that prevents it.

Dustin, that's really not a scandal. Maybe with people who are too young to remember that mandatory vaccinations are the way that we have wiped out contagious diseases in the past..... But not with those who remember getting smallpox and polio vaccinations at school.
Should Perry have brought it up as a legislative item? Perhaps..... But he is of the generation who remembers how mandatory vaccinations used to be no big deal.
Most people's insurance will not cover the cost of a vaccine unless it is 'mandatory'. From what I have read on this......that was Perry's main concern, since the HPV vaccine is expensive.
These are points that Perry needs to bring up though, to put this thing to rest.

Rick Perry couldn't stop telling everyone that he was right about Gardasil until the moment he announced for president.
Here's a taste of how "graceful and classy" Rick handled his Gardasil defeat (there is more):
"In the next year, more than a thousand women will likely be diagnosed with this insidious yet mostly preventable disease," Perry said at a May 9, 2007, news conference, surrounded by women who had been affected by HPV, including one who he said had been infected by a rapist. "I challenge legislators to look these women in the eyes and tell them, 'We could have prevented this disease for your daughters and granddaughters, but we just didn't have the gumption to address all the misguided and misleading political rhetoric.'"

I'm not sure that the polls will be open by November if the resulting flying pig infestation can't be dealt with in time.

She'll be on Greta tonight after the debate, which will no doubt show her to be the greatest orator in the history of politics, who is the only one not afraid to take it to Obama, while the also-rans spent the night bickering on lamestream CNN.

That would be walking the talk.
Should she win the nomination? I thought it was a foregone conclusion that once she enters, she instantly becomes the front-runner, everyone but Perry and Romney drops out, something about a nightstick and presto, she wins every primary and caucus.

That's obvious satire.
Right? oh good sweet Jesus! Palin is attracting the crazy crowd. The same type of stuff the Paulistinians would do. I had no idea
I like Palin, but not for President. She can breathe fire from the sidelines. She's can actually be useful for things like that.

I thought Perry was nasty and cut throat regarding HPV until 2 months ago. If that's the best they got, my impression that Perry backed off gracefully is probably correct.
What a desperate effort.
Yeah, out of a multimillion dollar campaign, Perry got 6k from Merck, and that money was because they support Perry's business friendly and doctor friendly policies. The idea it was a bribe is pure kook-dom.

That would be walking the talk."
Since most Perry fans are Palin fans, my guess is this won't be a problem. I just want someone with a longer track record. I like Palin a lot. Since most of the 'palin fans' are really Obama fans, I don't expect they will ever support Perry or Romney. They will probably be angrily demanding write ins for Palin.

"It just don't look good to be that p-whipped."
And you aren't? I am. Proudly. I wouldn't do something that would ruin my wife's life.
Did your wife run off on your family and marry another dude out in sunny Cali for 4 years?
She wouldn't do something that would ruin mine.
You mean like run off on your family and marry someone else? See there may be something to that there.
It's not good to be like that to someone who doesn't reciprocate. That's called being in an abusive relationship and Mitch needs to know there are 1-800 hotlines that can help.

One more thing.
This is one is real important if you want to get a man card some day.
When you don't do something out of concern for your wife's considerations, you do not tell people "Gee, I really want to but my wife won't let me."
And then the whole "Let me buy her some diamonds and work her over for a couple months maybe I can get her to say yes" thing.
And then, presumably after the diamonds and the vacations? No. Aww shucks.
