It's a tradeoff in doing a sci-fi movie - make the technology too advanced and it seems like magic which is rather boring, but make it too contemporary and you get a movie that's dated before the decade is out.

15 Celebrity Cringe-Worthy Rock Bottom Moments
Like punching a tranny:

One night, while admittedly totally wasted, Bonaduce tried to pick up a prostitute. What he got was Darius Barney, a 220lb man dressed like a woman. How does someone make a mistake like that? Wasted.

Bonaduce says that as soon as he saw Barney in the light, he wasnÂ’t so wasted that he couldnÂ’t tell what happened, and he told Barney to get out. Barney demanded $40 for his time and effort so when the two got out of the car, Bonaduce did what any self-respecting, wasted man would do when confronted with a transvestite that outweighed him by about 70lbs, he sucker punched him.

11 I don't believe in ghosts. But the thing that bothers me about the subject is that a couple that I know well, and whom I have a lot of respect for, claim that their older home is haunted with a harmless ghost. These are very down to earth people. It shocked the heck out of me when the wife told me about their house being haunted.

I can't stand Britney Spears either, but I have to come to her defense.  She looks better than she has in years.  She's not a size zero anymore, certainly, but she's in good shape.  She's like a...a...well, I don't know.  She's still smaller than a ten, I guess?  One of the 'Ettes would probably know better.  But my point is, she's got a little meat on her and that's how it should be.  I hate looking at stick thin women who look like they've been in a concentration camp.  I shouldn't be able to point out muscle groups across their abs and thighs.  That's gross.

Spears' problem is that she's wearing shit that's meant for that kind of sstick thin concentration camp girl, not someone with a little meat, so it looks bad on her.  She needs shit that accentuates her body, not something that fights it.

Or, short version, I'd fap to it.

Honestly not sure if I believe, but I've gotten some interesting pictures and had a lot of fun hunting for them. The history of a location alone is enough to keep me interested.

43 Completely OT, but I find this interesting.  I was watching a DVR of last night's Red Eye, and a first time guest, a filmmaker (Seth S-sky, I forget), was discussing a documentary he did on the Beatles.   He interviewed John Lennon's assistant, who saw him every day until the end.  Revelations, according to the assistant:

1.  "Imagine" wasn't intended to be a Commie manifesto, just a mindless "feel good" song.  The assistant said that in later years, Lennon "was embarrassed " by it.

2. Lennon engaged the assistant in a political conversation in early 1980.  According to the assistant, Lennon said that if he were eligible to vote in America, he'd vote for Reagan over Carter.

The neighbor lady was sitting in her own living room, and the door was locked when I opened it to go out so she couldn't have been in the house with me.

163 Okay, I've got a question for everyone who says they've seen a ghost. I'm not trying to be snarky or rude here, I honestly want to know.

We'll take as given that you saw a ghost, and weren't hallucinating or the victim of a hoax. My question is, why aren't you fucking insane?

You've got proof, at least to yourself, that ghosts exist. You should be spending all your time either trying to make contact with dead loved ones, or trying to find a way to ghost-proof your house so that ectoplasmic horrors from beyond can't come and get you! You should be devoutly, fanatically religious because you have proof that souls exist apart from the body.

You should be spending your life in either a state of religious ecstasy because you have proof, or in Lovecraftian terror.

But people who saw a ghost (or a being from another world) seem to just treat it as an interesting anecdote, like the time they saw that guy who was the drummer for that band shopping at Old Navy. I just don't get it.

Right now, it's all about deodorant, makeup, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, laundry detergent etc. etc.  You have to plan around that.  Do it for 2 years and your extra bedroom/pantry/garage will look like a 7-11.

tangonline.

How is that possible?

Posted by: Ben at June 18, 2011 11:07 PM (DKV43)

Coupons + sales.  If it's on sale AND you have a coupon... $$.  Also, Walgreens gives "register cash" for certain purchases.  Example:  a pack of disposable razors is on sale for $6.00.  You have a $3.00 off coupon, AND they give a $5.00 register cash credit which you can spend on anything in the store (usually has a 2-week expiration).  We only buy the stuff that meets all those criteria, and you'd be surprised at how much stuff that is.

Wait, how?

I mean, i read the sunday paper, and the coupons are essentially, but 2 items get 25 cents off, but the items cost 2-3 bucks each.

So you're paying 6 bucks to save a quarter.

Where is the coupon that gets things to cost one cent?

nono.

The bbq sauce was $1.99. With safeway card it was buy 1 get 1 free.  We had $0.50 coupons (which safeway doubles).  That's $1.00/jar BEFORE the coupon, which they apply to every item individually, so the ended up charging us $0.01 each.

250 And to sort of make it clear:  The wife and I, every Sunday morning, go buy 6 papers, go to breakfast.  Then we come home, sit around chit chat, clip our coupons, drink coffee, and just spend time with each other.

My wife works 18 hours a day AND she's working on her PhD, so I get like zero time with her, so those Sunday mornings mean a lot to me.  Every other week, we go shopping and cash in on our efforts.

It's a plus for a variety of reasons:  it's something she gets into, it's something she enjoys spending time with me doing, and it reduces our outgoing $$ by about 55%/month from what we used to do.

Win/Win/Win

285 What actually inspired my crack about ghosts and fapping- the place I rent out with my fiancee, the original owner died here last year. Since I run video feedback experiments as part of a skeptics group that works with local ghost hunting groups, I have recording equipment including digital recorders. Erinn sensed someone here, we both started hearing knocks and footsteps, so we finally ran an EVP session here. We had our dimmer lights flip down and up coinciding with our questions, bu the only EVP we could make out clearly on playback. We asked "where do you like to spend most of your time now?" And the reply was, in a sassy old lady voicen "where you do it, bay-bay". So ghosts watch you do the nastyn and a meme is born.

334 335, When they are young and hungry and working hard to make it, they don't have time to save the world. Cameron was busy enjoying his art and putting a roof over his head. Once he reached the peak of Maslows Hierarchy of needs, he lost his quest to make good films and wanted to make a political statement. He did and libfucktardness doesn't sell in flyover country. Now he parks his ass in his Mansion and counts the days to his irrelevance. Unless he wants to put out another crappy movie, which he probably will.

359 The Mrs and the girls are taking me on a boat ride to an Island off the intercoastal Tomorrow, we are having a BBQ. The most important thing I have learned about being a dad is this. The Greatest impact you can make on your children is how you treat your wife. If you are kind, respectful and loving to your wife, odds are your Daughter/s will be less likely to tolerate an abusive fuck. Your Son/s will realize quickly that those actresses on Porn videos have nothing to do with real Women. Your relationship with your spouse, or lack there of, will set them up for the rest of there lives. It's a lot of work but I think that's the most important thing a father can do. Happy Fathers Day rons, ronnettes, be good to the old man, do something slutty for him you havn't done since before you were married, That's the happiest fathers day.

Posted by: twiceblessedmom at June 18, 2011 09:32 PM (HjxoE)

368 Well, it's technically Fathers Day here.  So, I thought I'd give tribute to the best "Father" I ever had--even though he wasn't my father. My dad, a devotee of the "free" sixties, left my mom and four children when I was 11 to among other things travel and start a commune in Central Indiana.

What happened after that was almost all bad.  But there was  a man who stepped into the scene to change my life completely, and I don't think he's done yet.  My father's baby brother was a hell of a man.  I am a big man, 6' 5", 230, but he tossed me around like I was a rag doll (we once broke my aunt's couch in half wrestling during half-time of an NFL game!).   He was an incredible artist.  Almost everything he turned his hands to became beautiful.  He dabbled in stained glass, in carving, in leatherwork, even in playing the banjo.

He died when I was a young man.  I wasn't by any means ready for him to go.  There were still so many things he had to teach me--we both had daughters one and a half years apart.

So many times I have fallen down, and even after his death, he has picked me up.

So on Father's Day, I feel joy that I have four wonderful kids.  I am grateful beyond words for my wife who values me as a father and as a husband.

But Father's Day will always be a bittersweet day for me, because my "father" isn't here to enjoy it with me.  He would have LOVED my kids!

I will always feel bad that I wasn't with him when it happened.  I am SURE I could have done something--but you know, that's how he was.  He liked being by himself a lot, and he didn't like asking people to help.  Now, he'd ask me to "help" but he was only doing it so that I could learn how to feed the horses, how to string electrical fence, how to build a silo.

But he never thought there wasn't something he couldn't do by himself.  And, dammit, he was right, right up until he strapped a log chain around the end of a tree and flipped his tractor, crushing him beneath the steering wheel.

Tomorrow, though, I'm going to remember all of the things he taught me and try to help each of my kids with something they might remember their whole lives like he did with me so many times.

But I will NEVER forget the cowboy, the FATHER who taught me how to do so many things.  How to be honorable, how to be a man, and most importantly, how to be a father.

413 >>>I don't get Stranahan. It's like he wants to be reasonable sometimes, but then he veers all the way into lefty-loony-land so he won't lose all of his progressive E-tickets. I don't think it's politics, it's personality and psychology. Stranahan really, really wants people to take his word for it. I don't. Few do. But I guess I tweak him more. But instead of just saying, as other people would, "Well, agree to disagree, I think I'll be proven right in time," he starts pulling this crap about being in the loop with Breitbart. I have tried to avoid saying this until tonight but dude, seriously? Breitbart is a voluble guy. Let's just say that. Anyway, rather than just playing the game, as people do, where we toss out speculations, and knock down each other's speculations, and so on, having a friendly, rational argument about it -- like a Sudoko puzzle; nothing to get mad about -- it becomes really important to him that his speculations are BETTER than everyone else's, and he can't say why, he just knows some secret shit you don't know, etc. I gotta tell ya, as far as knowing shit, knowing wasn' my problem. I heard for a week these girls might not exist. Knowing wasn't the problem; believing was. I just didn't believe it. I kept hearing "NO ONE CAN FIND THEM" and said, "So fuckin' what?" I still don't know if I believe it. This NYT reporter is on Team Gennette and not to pull what I just did but I have something I can't relate (which the guy who related it shouldn't related either) which suggests to me that the NYT reporter has an agenda here. Anyway, every time I spar with Stranahan it is over the same thing, that he keeps claiming he KNOWS shit he actually doesn't know. What he means is "I have heard stuff," and, well, bully for you.

Well consider this.  The next time you decide to smack around bathtub boy on twitter at least one guy following him will see it.  He definitely wasn't one of those sorts of "conservatives are the cause of the shooting in Arizona"

Kind of an aside: On my most recent trip I went shopping at Whole Foods only because I didn't have a car and that was the only store that was within walking distance of where I was staying.  To be honest the place was a little ridiculous.  I was about to start wondering if the charcoal was "organic" or not.  It was insane.

506 You'll find that lefties are easily shamed and constantly wracked with guilt.

First, they're very racist.  They feel guilty about it and simply project their feelings onto others.

Second, they are deathly afraid of being called a hypocrite, but everything they do in their life leads them to feel guilty.  Their use of carbon, their lack of volunteering, their insensitivity to matters of race and class.

The easiest tool to have in your toolbox is to accuse them of projection.

Been away for a while...

How goes the Betty / Veronica thing?

I was wondering...how do we know the NYT reporter is telling the truth about those ID's being fake?

Maybe he's lying, to try to discredit us / ourside / Breitbart.

If these ID's are fake, shouldn't he be willing to share them with other reporters / bloggers so that they could work on figuring this out too?

Why would he lie?  Maybe the sources are real, but don't want to be ID'ed, so they don't get trashed.  And the reporter gets the bright idea, hey, I'll both keep them anonymous and throw a red herring / monkey wrench into the rights/Breitbarts plans/reputations by spreading the rumor that this was all part of Breitbarts nefarious plan to entrap Weiner.

Anyway, I've been away all day, so if this is old or discredited, disreguard it.

(I suppose I should go read the Betty / Veronica comments / thread to get caught up...)
