Stanley Cup Final Game 4
— DrewM

A little late tonight. On Versus now.

Just under 13:00 left in 1st period.

Coming off Game 3 blowout and the Rome suspension, The B's need this one to even up the series.

Unrelated: I'm seeing this from a lot of people on Twitter tonight including FNC's Brett Baier.

I'm in RT @TerryMoran Alice is 15, has terminal cancer. She wants to trend on Twitter. Seems like a great girl. RET... http://tl.gd/b04nr8

If you're on Twitter, it might be a nice thing to do. Consider it a little palate cleanser after a week of Winergate.

This maybe another long night for Bobby Lou.

5 Thomas has been unbelievable the last 2 games.

9 well, as my hawks showed, it's very possible to rattle Luongo

13 Did I miss the thread about the Federal goons raiding a private home over potential student loan fraud?

Any law enforcement types like to tell me how it just has to be a kick in the door raid with full military style arms and tactics?

What effing country do i live in!?!

I would not have started Lou after that last game.

...finally noticed that there was a thread up.  I was cooking dinner and watching the game.

19 It's like when the Bruins go on the PP it's like they send a guy off just to make it fair or something.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 05:28 PM (plesI)

20 It's weird, but like the man says, you can't argue with results. Tonight is absolutely vital, of course.

21

B'SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 05:33 PM (Z05lF)

22 Ok, tonight's the night we see Corey Schneider.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 05:33 PM (plesI)

23 Now we see if the Canucks again fold in the face of adversity.

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 05:34 PM (x1NR6)

24 Who mentioned Luongo's Achilles glove in the last game?

Posted by: Waterhouse at June 08, 2011 05:34 PM (dUJUx)

25 We could see a replay of the other night with one more soft goal.

Posted by: ontherocks at June 08, 2011 05:35 PM (HBqDo)

26 GOAL!!!!

29 The B's are gonna hang 8 on them again.

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 05:39 PM (x1NR6)

30 I literally screamed that out loud. Wife's not home.

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 05:39 PM (Z05lF)

31 Woo.

Posted by: Chris at June 08, 2011 05:40 PM (c3tTB)

32 Gut check time for the Canucks.

Traditionally that hasn't gone well for them.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 05:40 PM (plesI)

33

Lou has no glove.  None.

They should have started Schneider and sent Lou back to BC to rub one out and get ready for game 5.

Posted by: garrett at June 08, 2011 05:41 PM (1sb9C)

34 Just got home from microbiology lab. It appears, at least on the last two goals, that the sieve-like Bobby Lou is in full effect, yo.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 05:41 PM (WRtsc)

35 Silly Canucks, never wake a sleeping bear. You should know that. That hit on Horton was the spark that lit the flame.

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 05:42 PM (Z05lF)

36 Good to see Stephen Harper there, even if his team is on the losing end.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 05:44 PM (WRtsc)

37

It appears, at least on the last two goals, that the sieve-like Bobby Lou is in full effect, yo.

One thing I noticed about Lou this year is that when he moves to the glove side, he's ok.

When he stays still and tries to use the glove, he chokes it.

Posted by: garrett at June 08, 2011 05:44 PM (1sb9C)

38 I bet the city of Vancouver wishes they didn't relight the Olympic cauldron.

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 05:45 PM (x1NR6)

39 Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 09:41 PM (WRtsc)

The first one was sooooo soft. Five hole to drive a truck through.

Second goal may have been a deflection.

Third one was a bad giveaway behind the net. Eddie O said Lou should have had it. Not sure but he's looking might squirrelly.

He's got another softie or two in him tonight. If he plays the 3rd.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 05:46 PM (plesI)

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 05:48 PM (x1NR6)

41 It's like if the Canucks decide before the game they need to lock it down to overcome Bobby Lou they can do it.

But when things go bad for him in game, they can't adjust. It just snowballs and they all go tumbling down together.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 05:48 PM (plesI)

42 Well, again, I'm eating my words from after Game 2, but your call about how to beat the Canucks is proving correct, Drew... make the game about Luongo and averything else will work out. I think Garrett's right, as well... part of Luongo's technique is iffy if he doesn't get completely square to the shot. He doesn't seem to do that if he's just trying to snare it with the glove.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 05:49 PM (WRtsc)

43

Second goal may have been a deflection.

That was a soft-serve.  It was deflected at the shot.

He could have moved to it and taken it straight to the chest pad.  He just waved at it with his glove.

Posted by: garrett at June 08, 2011 05:49 PM (1sb9C)

44
How in the hell did that bumblefuck (Luongo) win us a gold medal?

Oh yeah... maybe it was because almost every other player on the team is/was a captain for NHL teams.

Posted by: PM Stephen Harper at June 08, 2011 05:50 PM (jsmtR)

45 Oh, I so want to see the Bs get a shortie here.

Please!

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 05:51 PM (plesI)

46 3-0, I'll take it.

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 05:53 PM (Z05lF)

47 Almost forgot- please forgive the shameless self-promotion, but if anyone's in a position to watch or attend tomorrow, I'm singing the Canadian anthem for the Kansas City Royals' homestand finale against the Toronto Blue Jays. Why they didn't give me both anthems is a bit of a mystery to me, but whatever... anyway, video will be posted as soon as I have it. Thanks!

In Breaking News:  the Canadians have bombed the Baldwins.

That's great...and you get to hang out and watch one of the premiere sluggers in baseball.  Bautista is having an amazing year.

Posted by: garrett at June 08, 2011 05:56 PM (1sb9C)

49 Garrett- Should be fun... we have to dodge some t-storms tomorrow, and I've got to be at class at 7 our time, but it'd be nice to see the bullpen not blow this one for the Royals. Soria has been atrocious this year in that regard.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:05 PM (WRtsc)

50 They're keeping Lou in.

Man, if the Bs kill this off, they might hang another 4 on his this period.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 06:13 PM (plesI)

51 tmi, I probably can't get it on TV, but I have the MLB-GAMEDAY audio pkg, so I'll listen in to the KC feed. Good luck and Congrats.

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 06:13 PM (Z05lF)

52 I'm not sure I understand what Vigneault is thinking by leaving Luongo in. Schneider was excellent in his play against Chicago.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:13 PM (WRtsc)

53 Thanks, Lincoln!

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:14 PM (WRtsc)

54 I think when the Bs don't give up a shortie they consider it a successful PP.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 06:15 PM (plesI)

55 JESUS. Horrifyingly soft goal by Luongo.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:18 PM (WRtsc)

56 Luongo is off to the showers....

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 06:18 PM (x1NR6)

He went after that pass so softly with his stick. And then he shoves it right to Perverly.

Just horrible.

60 Luongo just had his weiner DM hacked on international TV.

OH NO - but Alec was supposed to be the next mayor after I had to drop out!!!!

Posted by: a weener at June 08, 2011 06:20 PM (sJIt+)

62 Who called this before Game 1? Oh that would be me.

I doubt we see Tuka Rask in this series. I'd say it's better than 50/50 we see Corey Schneider at some point.

64 1972 was a long time ago.

Posted by: Uncle Joe at June 08, 2011 06:23 PM (sJIt+)

65 So are we then to assume that in Vancouver, the "ooooo" sound is not "Luuuuuuuu" but "Drewwwwwwwwww"?

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:23 PM (WRtsc)

66 Give how close Games 1 and 2 were, this could easily be the Bruins clinching the Cup tonight.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 06:24 PM (plesI)

67 The bigger story here is not how bad Luongo's been, but how tough Thomas has been to score against.
Canucks are far more worried about the latter than the former.

Posted by: ontherocks at June 08, 2011 06:27 PM (HBqDo)

68 Good point, OTR... and the other question becomes, who in their right mind would start Luongo on Friday?

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:30 PM (WRtsc)

69 The Canucks are looking a lot like the Washington Capitals. Just sub in the Sedin twins for Ovechkin and Semin.

Great players who simply are ineffective for long stretches at key times.

It's the Blackhawks series all over again.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 06:34 PM (plesI)

72 True, Drew, but the Canuck collapse happened with a 3-0 lead, didn't it? I have a feeling the Bruins may have a slightly stronger killer instinct.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:40 PM (WRtsc)

73 OTR, I was out of the room with the baby... as in, they read it like they were following the blog?

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 08, 2011 06:40 PM (WRtsc)

74 B's are about to win and the Red Sox just gained first place in the AL East. Good day, dick-shot notwithstanding.

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 06:44 PM (Z05lF)

75 Schneider just looks sharper, more solid than Luongo.

He almost definitely gets the start on Friday.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 08, 2011 06:45 PM (plesI)

76 As if on cue, the Canucks goon it up.

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 06:47 PM (x1NR6)

77 >>OTR, I was out of the room with the baby... as in, they read it like they were following the blog?

No, but the announcer asked about a goaltending controversy in Game 5 about 3 mins after your remark.

McQuade.  Reminds me of my old favorite Jay Miller.  And the other guy, Ehroff - with his girly man beard - beat it

Posted by: Uncle Joe at June 08, 2011 06:48 PM (sJIt+)

79 Gotcha. I have a feeling the entire continent was thinking that.

80 Feel that shit Canucks? Yeah you do. Suck it.

Posted by: Lincolntf at June 08, 2011 06:49 PM (Z05lF)

81 Whoa... I missed what Marchand did there.  I revoke the goon accusation against the Canucks.  Ballard was right on that.

Posted by: KennyM at June 08, 2011 06:49 PM (x1NR6)

82 Okay, I have no idea what could possibly be gained by pulling the goaltender at this point. I'm not willing to buy the "gain confidence" argument.

86 That was pretty stupid of Thomas.  He's been in the zone for 6 periods, he shouldn't let himself get dragged into that.
