— Ace I agree now too.
I thought it was news when a Congressman tweeted a picture of his erection to a 21-year-old coed, but I've been reliably informed this is all just a misunderstanding not worth pursuing.
Carry on.

Byron York Notices That Weiner's Non-Responsive Answers Aren't Very Convincing: But he's wrong, this is not a story.
As the distinguished gentleman Rep. Weiner says, it's time to "move on" from this "distraction" which we are "loathe" to pursue any further.
Also Noticing: Taranto, but this could have happened to anyone, and who are we to judge?
Move on, stupid bloggers. This is not a story.
Let's Give Rep. Weiner A One-Free-Boner Pass
Because God knows he'd do the same for you.
Some video of the fair-minded, honest Rep. Weiner below. I could link a thousand of these.
But he's a nice guy. Let's go soft on him. Let's give him every benefit of the doubt.
It's the right thing to do.
Like the NYT says, spinning on its own authority, this was probably just some unnamed staffer pulling a prank.
Yeah, that's it. That must be it. We've gone from hack on Friday, prank on Sunday, "staffer malfunction" from the NYT on Monday, and pretty soon we'll be entering "Please respect my family's privacy," so yes, let's just continue to pretend none of this has happened.
Welcome to 72 hours ago. Let's set the WayBack machine to Friday at 10:00 pm.

I have always thought of us as the Cavalry. The Calvary is inferior to the rest of the Army in power, but has speed and agility. This speed allows them to not only engage enemy Cavalry, but to scout enemy positions, skirmish and delay the enemy, and develop friendly battlefield positions.
For example, at Gettysburg, General Buford's critical development of the battlefield on day 1 where he identifies Lee's army headed to the field, occupies the favorable high ground and holds his position against forming infantry units until Union infantry arrives and deploys is an excellent example.
You rode in, spotted the advantage, dismounted and held the hill. And your general just decided to abandon you and your position with the rest of the Army. That's what it feels like.

Simple as that. Power politics. BTW, don't kid yourself -- "conservative" media plays by these rules w/r/t Weiner too. They know which side their New York bread will ultimately be buttered.

You want me to name names? I'll name some names.
That cock-sucker JPod.
That shithead was going back and forth about this with ace on twitter. Arguing all those stupid points about why this shouldn't be covered.
And then that smug cock-sucker started to give ace shit about HOW DARE ACE drag an innocent womens name through the gutter. HOW DARE HE use her name.
And then, what really infuritated me, is he then played the HYPOCRISY!!!111!!! card.
"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE 'ACE' TO BLOG WITH A PSEUDONYM, WHILE USING THIS INNOCENT GIRLS REAL NAME!!111!!!1!1"
So JPod, that cock-sucker, issues a veiled threat about releasing aces 'secret identity.
Then ace says fine, and redacts the girls name. Goes back to calling her the "Comely CoEd".
Fine. Super.
Meanwhile, C Fuckin' N Fuckin' N is using her real name in their coverage!
JPod, suck my slimey fuckin' cock, you cock sucker.

Interesting point and valid, but how would this apply to say a Matt Drudge?
Drudge is the New York Times of the conservative media....iow, what's on his site drive talk radio, blogs, and yes even NR, WS. Much like the Times dictates what CBSABCNBC cover at night. He also has alot of pull, admitted or not, from the liberal mass media.

I think the Enquirer needs to put someone on Weiner. He's obviously steppin out on his wife and will get caught, sooner than later. I doubt very much this is his first foray into extra-marital affairs.
But, the reality is it doesn't matter if he goes down, this district will elect another insane liberal to replace him. I think if this were a more moderate district that the GOP had any chance of picking up, you would see more interest in the story. Not that it makes it right to ignore the story.

1. Elected Officials are given a pass on Background checks, as that information could be used by political opponents... they get Security Clearance whether they deserve them or not... and only because only Congress can censure them, the DOD cannot take them away.
2. They are covered by the Speech and Debate clause of the Constitution, and so are the only Americans left who actualy have Freedom of Speech... Note, that they LIE all the time in Congress, yet are never brought up on Charges of Lieing TO Congress, like a normal person can be... Best theory I've heard. If you send a Personal messege, which is more than 140 characters, or that your Internet provider thinks is too big (like a text messege with a Picture attatched), it splits them up into two messeges, one Private, but one goes out Publicly to everyone following you....
So... Weiner Pic and text too big? SHE got the text... everyone got the Pic... which was why there was no Text on the Pic itself...
This info, by the way, on how they handle messeges of this type, is ON the Twitter site itself.

What bothers me is. So those who do blogging want a little privacy. Shouldn't they afforded that? Private citizens who want to write informal opinion pieces about news items, provided they are not news themselves?
What about young coeds involved in inappropriate consensual relationships with lawmakers? They now have an expectation of privacy? When they themselves are newsworthy not because a crime had been committed against them, but because they were a voluntary part of what most of America would agree is immoral? They now, when their exploits rise to a level of notoriety in American politics deserve privacy? Homewreckers have rights not to be exposed now?
How long did the MSM honor that little covenant for Schwarzenegger? Sanford?
Where was Jpod then? This exposes the double standard in such a way as to make it completely untenable.

High court rules out damage claim against Ashcroft
The Supreme Court on Tuesday threw out damage claims against former Attorney General John Ashcroft over an American Muslim's arrest, but four justices said the case raises serious questions about post-9/11 detentions under a federal law intended to make sure witnesses testify.
The justices were unanimous, 8-0, in holding that Ashcroft cannot be personally sued over his role in the arrest of Abdullah al-Kidd in 2003. The court sets a high bar for suing high-ranking officials, and all the justices agreed al-Kidd did not meet it, even though he was never charged with a crime or called to testify in the terrorism-related trial for which he ostensibly was needed.
Al-Kidd contended that his arrest under the material witness statute had a more sinister motive that violated his constitutional rights - federal authorities suspected him of ties to terrorism but lacked evidence that he committed or was planning a crime. And, he said, Ashcroft blessed the use of the law in the days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to take suspected terrorists off the street.
A five-justice majority absolved Ashcroft of any wrongdoing. "We hold ... that Ashcroft did not violate al-Kidd's Fourth Amendment rights," Justice Antonin Scalia said in his majority opinion. The five justices in the majority on this aspect of the decision are all Republican appointees.
But one of those justices, Anthony Kennedy, wrote separately to stress the narrowness of the decision. Kennedy said the case left unresolved how broadly the government may use the material witness statute, which has existed in one form or another since 1789.

IF he had been smart, he would have played on this very possibility.
"It was supposed to be sent to my wife. I just got all fumble-fingered in a rush. Sorry for the mistake, but I can't help that my wife and I have a healthy sex life."
That would actually have been somewhat plausible, and would have easily shut down the whole story. Too late for that now.

I'm afraid we do have to temper our expectations, though. This is the Democrat Party. The party that kept a confessed manslaughterer in the Senate forever until recently. The party that kept an ex-Klansman in the Senate forever until recently. Historically, the party of (in order) slavery, secession, segregation and socialism. He did it, its obvious to anyone with 1/4 of a functional brain (including and ESPECIALLY the ones carrying water for him), and we don't need to pretend like there is some burden of proof that still needs to be met.

If you're trying to make political hay of this, the point is to tarnish this unvarnished hypocrite Weiner and take him down a notch.
He's not a hip cool young up-and-coming Democrat, he's a creepy sexual predator and a bad liar.

It's not stalking if it's consensual. And me thinks there was some sort of back and forth pics being sent before the 'little weiner' hit the public airwaves. Thing was, she's not totally incompetent and didn't send any pics to 45,000 people.

What we need is a Republican "concern troll" in the House to look
into the security implications of Weiner having his account hacked.
----
YES.
If you would do that, then you'd have something!
-----How do you get "that," Entropy, if the story isn't covered? That's the point. No one in Congress will step up if there is no story.
Plus, I think it's important that we use incidents like this one - a Congressman caught in a salacious act - to continue to expose the media for the complete DNC shills that they are. We need their reputation to be mud for the upcoming election cycle. If regular Americans hear about this story and see how its been spun and not covered by the MSM, maybe they'll catch a clue. They know that the media loves stories like this one. Hell, they love them too. So why the cover up?

Momentum is still building behind this story, and its going to get some more national coverage on the big tube over the next day at the very least.
You don't know which House members are going to say what on this over the next week.

some of those friends are constituents of the man of the hour. They love the guy and would vote for him again, even if this is creepy. So, it isn't normal common sense in some places.
Posted by: curious at May 31, 2011 01:56 PM (k1rwm)
Maybe Weiner's constituents won't care that he's a cad and a creep, and maybe they will.
But I guarantee that there are individuals outside of liberal NY who do care about such things, and getting some coverage of this story could limit Weiner's national political ambitions.
Plus its just fun to watch him squirm.
Posted by: looking closely at May 31, 2011 01:57 PM (KNy97)
Entropy, are you a lawyer?
Because you're thinking like a lawyer.
We don't have to take him to court or get him to resign, he just has to drop the hackurzzzz bullshit. If he does, it's just a married guy cyberflirting with a girl half his age.
That's his wife's problem. Until then, it's a national security breach.
Why do you allow Democrats not to be taken at their word?

The payoff is proving that a rising Democrat star, being groomed by the commie elite to take over for the Jug Eared Fucktard when he burns his Carteresque brain out on drugs and celebrity cock, is a lying no-good perverted scumbag bully who can't be trusted with anything.
The motherfucker is lying about sending a picture of his dick to a woman.
It's the lies, not the picture.
We have an opportunity to show people that the next Messiah the Dems are trying to pull out of their asses is a sleazy lying fuck.
Why wouldn't we want to do that?

You want GRANDMA to hear about the dic pics?
Yes you do - and that's why you all suck and are being stupid.
"Conservative media" my ass. Fuck NRO. You want Grandma, you need NBC to cover the goddamn thing.
Hah!
Oh, there's a way around - targeted campaign commercials. Run some next time. Use it. Go to town with it. But that's got nothing to do with this kind of stuff right here.

Dude, no one in congress will step up if there is a story either.
What the hell kind of pie in the sky congress does your country have?
You get a dude with massive balls in there who likes the idea, he'll do it with or without coverage. You don't get that, and ball-less dudes won't no matter what.

I say we all get our twitter account #Hacked and/or #Pranked and/or #Distracted, depending on the day of the weekend, and send pictures of our amazing body parts to Congressman Weiner. Seriously, his title is so filthy; how could we expect more from him when he apparently sees himself as a pron star. Flood the government computer with this common obscenity so that the world will right itself for the Dick Rep. We do own his Pervert PC, do we not? So, it would be like sending it to ourselves. No harm. Just banal commonality.
Just ask Stymie's Steny.

Amish - you have me. You've had me.
But I don't see that. I see dicpic controversy everywhere.
And if anything, I think it's detrimental to taking the tac you'd like.
Because come on dude - you can clearly see yourself. If you want to go that route, we'd act like we believed him. We'd be talking hackzorz and and security and demanding an investigation. We'd be saying "if this was... an indiscrection, it's not really our business we'd like it go away... but if this was really a hacker, why, we're just very very concerned and this is very very serious. Very serious. Very concerned. Not talking about dicks.
We're not.
We're talking dicpic timelines to prove it was in fact his dicpic and he's lying.
That's what I'm against. You've got me on that other stuff. On the lying, on the security.
But not only does the dicpic not go anywhere as a scandal, it obstructs the other venues. Optically and in fact as well this is like, way way weaker than the case against Clinton. And you saw where that went.
But it was about PERJURY! PERJURY! SERIOUS!
Yeah, trying shouting that over all the dicpic/bj noise.

Yeah, that's pretty evident.
Entropy: "They are dicking with my life, they are destroying our economy and our way of life, they are degrading and dismantling our rights.... I don't give a fuck where his dick figgures into this apart that I want it out of my ass."
Hey, maybe it would be a good idea to attack this guy for his behavior - pervy behavior with coeds (or possibly younger) and his false charges of a crime. You think that might tarnish his reputation, castrate his power, and give pause to other voters that he and his party/defenders might not be the best and brightest... and force them to ease his dick out of your ass?
Entropy: "What's the exit strategy? How do you make him resign? You really figgure you stand to BENEFIT from just dwelling on it forever and insisting it matters?"
Are you obtuse? You expose him for who he is, all of him and all of his actions, and diminish his role in government. And, yes, dwelling on it is the rote repetition that not only sticks, but will be the only mechanism to break the media bubble.
Entropy: "You think the indie's are going to just love the sight of a bunch of conservatives all bent out of shape over democrat sexual escapades? Oh I know... it's about the lying. Cept this time the guy wasn't under oath. Boehner lied about every campaign promise he made."
Yes, the indie's will be turned off by the whole of the episode. Maybe they don't retain the blindspot that it's "only about sex." And as to Boehner lying, you see how that has endeared him to the voter right? I don't think you make the case you think you're making.
Entropy: "You ain't got shit. You've got 8, 9, 10, jack, 3."
Who says this is all about a straight? You know two pair or three of a kind is a decent hand. And even a high pair can help win the evening as long as you play the game. It sure as hell beats sitting in the corner, watching cartoons, and saying, "Eh. Whataya gonna do?"

They don't admire it or like the pics. What they want is male attention (for validation and status) and they put up with it to get other thing they want. It isn't arousing or secretly arousing. It just isn't, and gals putting up with the pics says more about the pathetic lengths women will go to to fulfill their idea of female success in the current culture than anything else.

Remember, Jeff, being actually genuinely horny doesn't benefit a woman in today's society. There always has to be some deeper meaning. Some angle to be worked.
It can never just be nature telling a woman it's time to get some sex.
Otherwise all of feminism falls apart like a house of cards.
You know that.

I can't be alone. It's been building for years, I think, this utter disgust and impatience I have with the left or men on the right who are guilty of the same failings of vanity. John Edwards bought into these yarns Rielle would spin for him of being chosen and messenger of a new age. The monumental Hitler level delusion required to buy into that is just astounding to me.
DSK can get away with rape, so long as he's so important to the cause (what cause - the cause of little people are tools and insects and just don't matter in comparison with him.
Weiner has some sort of fixation and he won't be able to control it and he'll keep doing it. Why is this man worthy of serious consideration by anyone? He's got a wife, a beautiful wife - and doesn't need the cheap gratification of getting one over on as many barely legal girls as he can, and moreover a coward about admitting it.
Why does anyone think that's ok in anyone, let alone a congressman?
Why stick up for that?
Useless, creepy skeezy, lowdown waste who want to take my money and boss me around for my own good. NO THANKS.

I think you don't understand me cause you are way older than me. I don't spend my life on the internet. I was barely around this weekend, I'm sure you noticed. But we are all always looking at our email, on twitter even in social situations. I don't think you grew up with the internet which is why you don't really understand. also, we are online even at work. the older IT guys think they thwart you and prevent you from getting to certain sites or from shopping but while you are working you can manage to shop and read on the internet. We have been studying and doing our home work while accessing the computer for as long as we can remember so the extension to work is not abnormal.

Yeah, that was me. Not that the comment he front paged was anything other than what everyone has already been laying out a million times before me.
Yeah, Foster got a bit of a raw deal on our reactions, but think about what the press does. 99% of their job is choosing what to cover at all. When someone chooses to cover this story without focusing on the 'circumstantial case' as Foster calls it (accurately) that's something a lot of people can criticize.
It turns out that there is an easy solution, and Foster took it, by simply highlighting my comment, which like most of the comments in the first post, lays out the part we wanted covered.
It's when press stubbornly refuses to do that, or goes way way way out on a limb (such as the John Mccain lobbyist affair that didn't happen) that we should really get ticked off. This is a case of one of the good guys reacting smartly, instead of posing as 'the decider' like Charlie Gibson.
