Sunday Afternoon United States Navy Stuff
— Dave in Texas

The son of my oldest friend (he is sooo old) serves on the USS Momson (DDG-92). It is not an Evarts-class destroyer. Arleigh-Burke. They did this video thing.

Anyway, I'm posting it for everyone who has someone they love who serves. God bless em. More are now in harm's way, keep them in your thoughts. They serve the nation and we are damned fortunate for them. Am reminded of the quote from "The Bridges at Toko-Ri".

"Where do we get such men? They leave this ship and they do their job. Then they must find this speck lost somewhere on the sea. When the find it they have to land on its pitching deck. Where do we get such men? "

incidentally, and by that I mean it isn't incidental at all, Ronney's dad was a Naval aviator in WWII.

I miss that cigar-smokin gentleman. May he rest. the "easy" button was a nice touch.

The Navy took my Dad to New Guinea in 1943 and I don't think he ever forgave them for that.

He spent so much time at sea during da Big War (as an Army Corps of Engineer Sergeant) that he thought he should have been a sailor instead.

Think he would have been happier if my brother had gone Navy vice Army, but we both survived that as well.
I say God bless all our servicemen and servicewomen and may He give much needed wisdom to our leaders (R & D) in these times.

Thank you for this quote. This is how my son earns his living - flying off the "boat" and landing again. He leaves his wife and daughter again this summer to provide close air support to ground forces (I'm guessing in Afghanistan, but who knows).

My answer to the question, where do we get such men - they come from Kansas, sir. But how do we deserve them? That I can't answer.
