9 Merry Christmas all. 4 days ago I got confirmation that I landed a job interview which will be a significant promotion if I land the job. Plus it will take me closer to home in a conservative western state after 17 years in east coast exile. But the best thing that's happened was the phone call I received last night from my 18 yo AB @ Lackland AFB last night. I could not be prouder of him!

44 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Merry Christmas, Morons

Security Essentials is non-annoying (it will never ask you to upgrade to a paid product, for example), it consumes minimal resources and the Malicious Software Removal Tool that updates and downloads to your system automatically on the second Tuesday of every month is very effective. You can't be lazy though, so you have to run complete scans now and then to feel really protected (maybe once a week is enough? depends upon your exposure habits,). Wishing all a Merry Christmas.

75 A question for the moron nation.
Based on the Mayan Calendar 12/21/2012 thing.
If light speed is the max speed achievable.  How close will the "Star-ship of Doom" have to be before amateur astronomers will have picked it up, much like Levi-Shoemaker-9 that smacked into Jupiter?  So right now they would be one light year away.
How will the world react?

The whole "It's a Cook-book" line of thought.  Will send thousands into the hills to dig bunkers.
The Moose-Limbs thinking this is the Maddi (12th Imam) start making suicide vests like leisure-suits in the 70's.
Virgins not wanting to die virgins, or to be eaten (not in a good way) start putting out like porn stars.
Governments of the world start building "Planetary Defenses" from which to fire nukes from orbiting platforms at the approaching "Star-ship of Doom".
Any other thoughts?

The little Rightwingers went through their presents in about a minute and a half (looking amazingly like the Taxmanian Devil from Looney Tunes).  She Who Must Be Obeyed and I got each other a new flat-screen tv, but they also gave me a 1 lb box of Reeses Peanut Butter cups.  Unfortunately, it contained only 2 cups - 1/2 lb each.

So much for the diet.

Time to put the roast in the oven - marinaded in wine, curry, garlic, brown sugar, and other good stuff for the last 24 hours.  We also have fresh cream of pumpkin soup in the works.

Merry Christmas, all.

79 Here I went and read a whole book last week, all for nothin'. Dang.

BillyBob, quick: What does HASP stand for? Didn't think so. What a blessing it is to live in a nation choc-a-bloc full of postal experts. Junior, if you ever had to do the analysis on one postal sorting system, it would make your head spin. You don't know shit about shit. So go fuck that up. UPS has 50,000 packages in one city they've sent out "apologies" for. What do you know, they're not magic either. Bet you could fix that, though. With your wormhole.

Someone's a bit...sensitive...this morning.

The USPS has a bad reputation based on lots and lots of experience. Are there functioning units within it? Of course. But come on, it's not the best run organization in the world.

UPS has 50,000 packages sitting, but without any lnowledge of exactly why, it's just a number. I worked there for a long time, and we would routinely advance Christmas volume that had been shipped too late, just to try to get it delivered, in spite of the havoc it would cause the system. It is possible that that is what happened in Denver.

89 Kids are getting older. Youngest (7) still believes in Santa and the older ones (11,15) play along. Presents were not opened rapidly and set aside. It was all very measured and deliberate. They all wanted it to last, and to be honest I did too. I don't want them to grow up but I realize that it can't be like this forever. Hope to get a start date on my new job this week so I can tell the current employer to F off. Merry Christmas Morons/ettes, lurkers, de-lurkers and trolls. 96 Merry Christmas y'all :-) Gave the kids new bikes and laptops for Christmas among other things. One of the laptops won't even power up, all I get are 7 POST beeps. Internet says it's a bum CPU. The darn thing worked yesterday when I did the activation and all. Ah well I'll let Best Buy handle it, I do enough IT work during the week :-)

I'm hoping this coming year will be better...for all of us.  This past year was a fight just to stay even.  Equality of outcome, my ass.

Well, in about an hour the sprogs and their squeezes will start showing up.  They range from full blown R0NP@UL!!! nuts to Obama-is-the-best-thing-since-ice-cream true believers...with the youngest a true Moronette.

Where did I go 2/3rds wrong...altho they're all gun-nuts, believers in Internet freedom, etc.  The PaulTard I can half understand, but the Obamanation is beyond me.

I feel I am much better informed concerning current events in government, military, and social matters. I wish you all a good year to come, may it bring better than we've endured this year.

Ah, we did have a pretty big snow here mid-week and the roads have been effed, still bad on the side streets.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all here who bring a lot of hilarity into my life and assure me that I am not insane.

The flag case was a complete and nice surprise. We had talked about erecting a flagpole to fly it, but it would gave had to be quite tall and the two of us live apart five out of seven days a week during the summer, so raising and lowering it would have been a problem. Perhaps in a decade or so, after I retire, we will put up a flagpole of proper height for it.

181 I can never remember - is it squirt bottles for the kids and shock collars for the cats, or the other way around?

Yeah, these kids could use some shock collars.  I'm trying to hide from them in the guest bedroom, and they're in here jumping on the bed.  With their shoes on. Doing fake karate moves and screaming about jaguars. Now they're off to the other bedroom.

Any two of them are just fine--squirmy and loud and obsessed with their own bodily functions, but capable of listening and reason. All four of them together, they turn into a pack of Tasmanian devils.

That's a nice hook up!

I'm not a chocolatier/ baker by any stretch of the imagination but that combination sounds right up my alley. Ancho has a great flavor, is slightly sweet and has a touch of heat, I can see how that would be perfect with chocolate!

192 I am reposting a comment from yesterday. If you find yourself with a few extra minutes today, with your loved ones nearby, you might want to show your gratitude.

Here's something that might be worthy of our attention this holiday season.

This company was on F&F this morning. They started a company that lets you record a video and then store it or schedule it for future delivery, Then it occurred to them that the folks who need such a service most are the men and women serving in the armed forces. So, they extended the service, for free, to active duty members of the military.

Right now they are extending the service, for free, to the rest of us, so that we can send messages of gratitude to our brave men and women in the field.

All it requires is a webcam.

I have to imagine that, at Christmas, when you're far, far from home, a video clip of someone saying 'thank you' would be most appreciated.

195 Someone give me a Christmas present and tell me the real number is 40'ish, at best, please. What is that 49% from, WAPO? Chrissy Matthews? The View? That number can't be real. This is actually a blessing in disguise. The more confident the dems are that they can win the election honestly, the less hard they will try with the shenanigans (voter fraud, class warfare, OWS, riots, union intimidation, etc., etc.) Also remember your duty to lie to any pollster who might contact you. Do everything you can to keep their confidence up.

206 82 "A question for the moron nation.
Based on the Mayan Calendar 12/21/2012 thing."

Well my take on all this is thus;
The Mayans couldn't even 'see' their demise, so what makes us think they have any foresight worth paying attention to? I believe the reality is (though its not very sexy) they knew enough about the planetary system to have a calendarial reset, at which point the whole thing would start over again...

208 My libtard relatives are coming to dinner and I'm cringing at the thought. I took my 2nd Klonopin early, chased with beer and bourbon.

They're chronically late, so presents probably won't be opened before four O'clock. My sister told me to call her when I put the bird in the oven and was shocked to get an 8:00 A.M. call.

My dad dearly loves the orange flavored dark chocolate "oranges" made by Terry's. It comes as a foil wrapped ball that you keep in the fridge and whack them on the counter to serve them. Done right (I store them in the fridge and then put them in the freezer for 10 - 15minutes), they split into a bunch of individual slices -- like orange segments -- about 1/4" wide. Not too bad for a domestically made chocolate treat.

Have any other morons tried them?

211 Mayans?

Why it's the biggest tourism boom in decades!

Otherwise, it's not going to be any different than our calendar rolling a millennium. Of course, then again, I've been hearing for a couple of decades now that the "big one" could be an asteroid coming from the direction of, and therefore hidden by, the Sun.

Darn shame about ruining all those Mayan records, huh?

Not really. If the Mayans could have foretold a return of an apocalyptic assault from the sky, well, so could other civilizations. There would be a record, somewhere.

I tell ya what. When the big televangelists and the mullahs start giving away all their worldly belongings, we can start to worry.

Posted by: andycanuck at December 25, 2011 03:05 PM (sHY5w) The Kindle Fire is great for surfing if you're just surfing to read blogs and such. a bit of a pain to type on. Complex sites may give it the heeby-jeebies. I'm very pleased with mine. Books, music, videos, web surfing as long as you're near usable wifi. For a simple user like me, it really is an ipad jr.

271 Merry Christmas & Happy Chanukah to the Moron Horde.

Have a cool Yule or a festive Festivus if that is the way you roll ...

Had a wonderful dinner with my sister & her family, watched the Mormon Tabernacle Choir & Mass from the Vatican, played with the kids and their new toys 'til we all fell asleep & woke up for apple pie & chocolate pecan pie & coffee.

Many thanks for the conservative companionship over the year ...

276 I'd like to take a moment a give a shout-out to everyone who was born on 12/25.  Happy Birthday, and I'm sorry you get screwed out of gifts by thoughtless a**hole friends and relatives who decide that the box they gave you is your birthday gift AND your Christmas gift.  The few people I know who were born on Christmas day (not me) took a major gift beating every year when they were kids, and that ain't right.  I know it's the thought that counts, but a birthday and Christmas are technically two different thoughts, aren't they?

My heart goes out to you.  That's just not fair.  You guys are victims of when you're born.  This is an issue that deserves some public awareness, it bothers me every Christmas.  Anyway, Merry Christmas.  And Happy (belated) Birthday.

Posted by: joejm65 at December 25, 2011 11:58 AM (UZuc4)

282 Happy Birthday to everyone born near the holidays. I actually made out OK. I got some bigger price items that my parents couldn't have swung except as combined presents and I did get parties as a kiddo (wan't SUPER close) Of course as an adult I find that everyone is busy with work, club etc events and burned out so if I wanted to mark the fact that I'm getting even older I would have to celebrate the .5 year points and see if the co-workers wanted to go out to lunch etc. I always figured if I had a kid born too close to Xmas/NYD they would have half year parties in the summer so they wouldn't get left out.

Posted by: Paleride at December 25, 2011 11:58 AM (m+nIW)

283 And forget about birthday parties, especially when you're a kid.

Wouldn't worry about it, I never had a birthday party and I was born in June. Nobody did. We never had individual graduation parties, confirmation parties, etc. Parties have gotten out of hand.

Posted by: lowandslow at December 25, 2011 11:59 AM (GZitp)

284 They're chronically late, so presents probably won't be opened before four O'clock.

We didn't have presents, or turkey. First time in 53 years.
Be thankful for what you have.
Some have less.

For years, we bought 10-15 of them evry Christmas, wrapped them, and started of up and down the street delivering them to the neighbor kids.  Now, all the kids are grown and gone, and their parents say they miss them.

Oh, and we always bought extras for us.  We haven't seen them lately, tho.

I've done it and it's fun, and much more affordable, but we really like to go out for Christmas. At home, however, I tend to stick to the crabstick and smoked salmon type of sushi. I'm not about to ruin my favorite, spicy tuna, by chancing a major screw up.
