Merry Christmas to Ace and all of you Morons....Obviously!
I had my kids over yesterday and had a magnificent day. After sweating over the present selection I was amazed at the positive reception some of our choices got.
Today we get my significant other's boys, and her ex-mil (and her squeeze) for brunch in about 2 hours. Carmel Pecan Rolls rising in the kitchen and omlets for everyone. Please pray for us sinners and pass the vodka.
After the company leaves it's standing rib roast for dinner with yorkshire pudding, twice baked potatoes, green beans, home made rolls and a selection of wines. Merry Christmas to ME!!!
New Year's Weight Loss Ressolution to follow in a few more days so enjoying it all for now....

Security Essentials is non-annoying (it will never ask you to upgrade to a paid product, for example), it consumes minimal resources and the Malicious Software Removal Tool that updates and downloads to your system automatically on the second Tuesday of every month is very effective. You can't be lazy though, so you have to run complete scans now and then to feel really protected (maybe once a week is enough? depends upon your exposure habits,). Wishing all a Merry Christmas.

Based on the Mayan Calendar 12/21/2012 thing.
If light speed is the max speed achievable. How close will the "Star-ship of Doom" have to be before amateur astronomers will have picked it up, much like Levi-Shoemaker-9 that smacked into Jupiter? So right now they would be one light year away.
How will the world react?
The whole "It's a Cook-book" line of thought. Will send thousands into the hills to dig bunkers.
The Moose-Limbs thinking this is the Maddi (12th Imam) start making suicide vests like leisure-suits in the 70's.
Virgins not wanting to die virgins, or to be eaten (not in a good way) start putting out like porn stars.
Governments of the world start building "Planetary Defenses" from which to fire nukes from orbiting platforms at the approaching "Star-ship of Doom".
Any other thoughts?

The little Rightwingers went through their presents in about a minute and a half (looking amazingly like the Taxmanian Devil from Looney Tunes). She Who Must Be Obeyed and I got each other a new flat-screen tv, but they also gave me a 1 lb box of Reeses Peanut Butter cups. Unfortunately, it contained only 2 cups - 1/2 lb each.
So much for the diet.
Time to put the roast in the oven - marinaded in wine, curry, garlic, brown sugar, and other good stuff for the last 24 hours. We also have fresh cream of pumpkin soup in the works.
Merry Christmas, all.

BillyBob, quick: What does HASP stand for? Didn't think so. What a blessing it is to live in a nation choc-a-bloc full of postal experts. Junior, if you ever had to do the analysis on one postal sorting system, it would make your head spin. You don't know shit about shit. So go fuck that up. UPS has 50,000 packages in one city they've sent out "apologies" for. What do you know, they're not magic either. Bet you could fix that, though. With your wormhole.

Someone's a bit...sensitive...this morning.
The USPS has a bad reputation based on lots and lots of experience. Are there functioning units within it? Of course. But come on, it's not the best run organization in the world.
UPS has 50,000 packages sitting, but without any lnowledge of exactly why, it's just a number. I worked there for a long time, and we would routinely advance Christmas volume that had been shipped too late, just to try to get it delivered, in spite of the havoc it would cause the system. It is possible that that is what happened in Denver.

"Well, there used to be this thing call "journalism". See, first you make up a story that Advances The Narrative, then you create evidence for it (in a font that wasn't invented at the time it was supposed to happen), and then you're Dan Rather. Truthiness rules!"

In the interest of inclusivity, let us together offer Greetings of the Season to everyone:
To All Our Leftist, Politically Correct Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the summer/winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Canada and the United States great nations. Not to imply that these two countries are necessarily greater than any other country in the world. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
To Everyone Else:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Yeah, these kids could use some shock collars. I'm trying to hide from them in the guest bedroom, and they're in here jumping on the bed. With their shoes on. Doing fake karate moves and screaming about jaguars. Now they're off to the other bedroom.

Wifey and I were in the ABC store Thursday and had a 10 minute discussion on what kind of vodka to get. Valu-rite wasn't an option. I wanted the 100 proof Russian variety. Here's something that might be worthy of our attention this holiday season.
This company was on F&F this morning. They started a company that lets you record a video and then store it or schedule it for future delivery, Then it occurred to them that the folks who need such a service most are the men and women serving in the armed forces. So, they extended the service, for free, to active duty members of the military.
Right now they are extending the service, for free, to the rest of us, so that we can send messages of gratitude to our brave men and women in the field.
All it requires is a webcam.
I have to imagine that, at Christmas, when you're far, far from home, a video clip of someone saying 'thank you' would be most appreciated.

He was so stoked about his PS3, and games, but he has not stirred from the computer since he loaded his Guitar Port software. I may have lost him for the day.......
And the doggone man bought me things, even though I tried to trick him in to thinking I bought my own. Got a pair of exquisite antique girandole, and assorted other delicious. He outdid himself on the stocking stuffers this year.

Based on the Mayan Calendar 12/21/2012 thing."
Well my take on all this is thus;
The Mayans couldn't even 'see' their demise, so what makes us think they have any foresight worth paying attention to? I believe the reality is (though its not very sexy) they knew enough about the planetary system to have a calendarial reset, at which point the whole thing would start over again...
Spaceships? Naw...

They're chronically late, so presents probably won't be opened before four O'clock. My sister told me to call her when I put the bird in the oven and was shocked to get an 8:00 A.M. call.
My dad dearly loves the orange flavored dark chocolate "oranges" made by Terry's. It comes as a foil wrapped ball that you keep in the fridge and whack them on the counter to serve them. Done right (I store them in the fridge and then put them in the freezer for 10 - 15minutes), they split into a bunch of individual slices -- like orange segments -- about 1/4" wide. Not too bad for a domestically made chocolate treat.
Have any other morons tried them?

Why it's the biggest tourism boom in decades!
Otherwise, it's not going to be any different than our calendar rolling a millennium. Of course, then again, I've been hearing for a couple of decades now that the "big one" could be an asteroid coming from the direction of, and therefore hidden by, the Sun.
Darn shame about ruining all those Mayan records, huh?
Not really. If the Mayans could have foretold a return of an apocalyptic assault from the sky, well, so could other civilizations. There would be a record, somewhere.
I tell ya what. When the big televangelists and the mullahs start giving away all their worldly belongings, we can start to worry.
