Not nearly as funny, but interesting in a dull way, washed up actress Roseanne Barr is perfectly willing to kill people who don't conform to her concept of spreading the wealth, and thinks we oughta go Al-Q on wealthy people who won't give away money (no way to tell if she, a wealthy person, is giving away hers). Also this is worth a repeat and also I suck at this ONT thing.

Ohio Dan,
Boredom is inexcusable, unless your wife drags you to a play wherein which you fall asleep, your wife nudges you hard on the shoulder you wake up to find a cast memeber on stage staring / glaring right at you. That was last night.
But tonight....
I have discovered a new beer called, Flat Tire and am drinking a collection of their brew, one being the 'Ranger India Pale Ale' a fine production and combination of smooth excentuated with a fullness of taste and a gobbery of alcohol.

And then thereÂ’s this from Kaiser, from a speech he gave in July 2009 in Tulsa:
“There’s never been more money shoved out of the government’s door in world history and probably never will be again than in the last few months and the next 18 months, and our selfish, parochial goal is to get as much of it for Tulsa and Oklahoma as we possibly can.”
Nice. I think I might just change my mind about ObamaÂ’s attitude toward billionaires. Or at least the rapacious ones who support him.

But one of the highlights of last evening was me walking around with a tumbler of vodka and tonic and watching my wife negotiate with the will call window folks who had misplaced our tickets while the line started forming, my wife is sharp as a tack and next thing I know, we are sitting up front at a play that never should have been made into one where I could not hide my slumber.
During intermission, we landed at a small lobby bar and I told my wife what I thought of the play and she said, "sweetie, you read the review didn't you." I said no but if you did, why are we here?

I have two items that rate high on the wish we had never bought. 1st is the pair of boots my wife wore to a show that blew out her knee. That was followed by ineffective knee surgery and, 1 year later, total knee replacement. Second was the night we decided to make home made caramel Apples. Read the instructions people! I didn't! Apparently, if you nuke the carmel and forget to add 3 or 4 tablespoons of water it becomes a superglue covers apple cabable of sucking caps off my wife's teeth. I know this to be a fact.

Regarding the First Lady's foray into Target, what a spectacle. I mean, the reason she was there was to divert the public's attention away from her rococo taste and whincing decorum. Yet, even those who spin for her are out of touch with how out of touch the Obamas are and how disgusting their fuzzy tape manners and character has so diminished the house and office they hold ---- a photo op dash out to Target with sun glasses, baseball cap and the whole pretense of it all.

My sister in law is a die hard lib and so I laughed at her today when she told me they had gone to eat at Olive Garden and couldn't get french fries for their kids. She was incredulous that the waiter expected her kids to eat grapes with their chicken fingers. She was told no french fries, or desser for that matter, with the kids meal and the kid size drink had shrunk. Naturally the price has not been adjusted. So she told the waiter OK I'll take a side order of fries from the adult menu. No can do. So she starts arguing with the guy asking him if he thinks the alfredo sauce on pasta was healthier than the french fries, etc. I laughed and asked her why this was news to her that it had been on "the internet" that the Darden owned restaurants had gotten their Obamacare waivers and now were forced to cut the french fries.
Again I laughed and laughed and said since she supported this administration this was her own fault. Not sure if light is starting to dawn but when you taken her kids french fries away their could be trouble.

Kind of hard for me to say since I don't know what kind of food you like. I like mine hot, so I go with cayenne and such, again, added later in the process so it doesn't just leach out. How much garlic did you end up using, how many cloves?
In all honesty, crockpot food can be bland to me, anyway. (Probably why my husband likes it) I suggest you go for some spicier touches in your leftovers. Once you get comfortable with the crockpot (check out more of Gushkas recipes) and cooking in general, you need to go with Peaches suggestions about braising things, the flavors are more intense.
I leave mine in the liquid, but that may be some low class redneck thing, like eating leftovers after three days!

Do you have the kind of crockpot where you can sear the meat in the cooking vessel before starting the slow cook process? Because you get a lot of flavor out of that step, imho.

Actually, I would probably have asked for the manager and asked for a detailed explanation as to why it was they wouldn't bring them to me, but then again I am an utter bitch like that.
Random restaurant story: I was out for dinner with the Good Ex-BF once. He's about 6'2" and maybe, maybe 145 lbs. soaking wet. I order the steak. He got a salad. When the meals came, the waiter gave me the salad and him the steak. I didn't really think anything about it and switched plates with him. The waiter stopped and turned back and gave me this huge apology about how that was sexist and he was so sorry and the next round of drinks was on the house. We both stared at him and I told him that it wasn't sexist, it was simply the odds.

Do you have the kind of crockpot where you can sear the meat in the cooking vessel before starting the slow cook process? Because you get a lot of flavor out of that step, imho.
And we return to the great cast iron dutch controversy.

Crazy Ants.....had a run in with those little bastards last year. ....We had bought a pickup truck load of hardwood firewod [mesquite, oak, hickory] for our smoker.....we didn't know it was infested with them.
Before long they were all over the place and invading our house. ....They don't act like regular ants.....they swarm into your house, and if you spray them they scatter in all directions, in an irratic gonzo way. ...I called them 'gonzo ants' until I saw a thing on the local news calling them 'crazy ants'.
Regular ant killer sprays don't kill them. ....Ant Baits are what worked. I used them all, scattered them everywhere. ....While my kitchen was under attack, I discovered that they will come to shallow dishes of sugar water or juice....so I put those out all over my countertops. The dishes would become black with the little buggers.
Hope this helps, if anyone has the misfortune of coming under attack from this species.
The Tudors? ....Watched it on Showtime when it came out. .....It's long on eye candy, great sets and costumes. ....But short on historical accuracy. ....They sorta put history into a blender. That said, it has some entertainment value.

@118 I agree that is the trend, and I don't see it getting any better. Everybody wants smaller frames and lighter packages for concealed carry. In a 4" barrel, a .38, even the +P, isn't too much for anyone with enough hand to grasp it right. In those little stingers, it burns. That's not a girl-thang; I resent it too, and I'm 6'2", 220.
I don't like snubbies in general -- old target shooter, I want to be able to hit at 50 feet -- but a titanium snub nose .38 will rap your knuckles with the trigger-guard. If the shooting experience is distinctly unpleasant, you can't expect shooters to practice much. Lots of new small nasty 9mm semi's out there, too.
Solution? Find a comfortable way to carry a slightly larger frame. You & I both know that's not going to happen, at least not until the initial carry craze settles down a little. I do think women have a little advantage there, with purses and more clothing styles usable without appearing out of character.

This thing about that land that Perry's dad has a hunting lease on is a really lame smear. ....A hunting lease doesn't mean you have posession of the land....it only means you have the right to hunt there, during season....as well as other hunters who purchase leases too.

@188 tend to agree! .38+P in a .357 makes a stable platform.
The shorter the barrel, the more superfluous the laser -- or any other sight, for that matter.
I sometimes get my hand on a S&W 65LS. It's a sweet little thing, like jewelry, and a joy to hold with .38. With its listed round though it is snappy, and needs big rubber Uncle Mikes over its lovely rosewood stocks. That would sort of spoil the point of a Lady Smith, wouldn't it?

@128 ed, I'm afraid I only agree a little. If you really expect to use a carry gun to protect yourself (and you do, right?), you need to practice with the gun you carry. If your carry piece shoots differently -- a lighter or shorter-barrelled one will, for sure -- you're essentially carrying a stranger's gun.
It's a good start, though, and any practice is better than none at all.

I have always been a fan of wheel guns for carry just because there are far fewer moving parts to go "wrong" at that do or die moment if you catch my drift. A FAV was the bobbed hammer S&W "AirLite" T1 in .38special that came stock with the Uncle Mike's grips. Very smooth release from a shoulder, waist, or ankle holster and just a scant 11oz loaded. I don't think they make em anymore so finding one on comp might be a tad difficult. Now a RUGER SP 101 with bobbed hammer in .357 with a 2 and a quarter inch barrel would be an awesome first shot take down piece..cept the weight is pushing 25+ oz and you would have to add on some Uncle Mike's just to keep the beast from jumpin yer grip.

Good points above.
What we are dealing with here are trade offs. A lighter gun is easier to carry, and thus more likely to be carried. However, it can be less comfortable to shoot, thus reducing the amount of gun range practice.
And vice versa for a heavy gun. Easy to shoot, lots of practice, less likely to carry.
Anyway, if you do it the way I talked about, you want both guns to be as identical as possible, except for the actual weight. For example, both hammerless, both have same barell length, sights, trigger pull, grips, etc. (or however you want it configured).
Anyway, it's just a technique. Lotta guys who carry .357s do a lot of practicing with shooting .38 loads because it is cheaper and less punishing. Other guys who shoot .45's have a .22 conversion kit, because the ammo is so much cheaper.
So... the person could go to the range once a week, put 5 shots down range with the titanium frame, just for basic familarity and refresher and then put 50 or 100 down range using the steel frame, to practice grip, sight alignment, draw, etc and leave the range without having their hands all beat up.
But again, it is just a technique. Everyone's got a couple.

I was told years ago by a few people including gunsmiths that it wasn't actually the best thing in the world to use the pussy rounds, because the pussy rounds are shorter and start their journey farther back in the cylinder, so the bullet is less stable by the time it hits the feed area/throat of the barrel wearing it out faster, and something about eroding the cylinder from having the explosion father back in the cylinder. If I remember right the concern for the barrel throat was more for jacketed stuff, not so much for lead slugs. Who knows, I assumed these dudes were smarter than me and must have known from experience, I wasn't much of a wheel gun dude so I never tested the theory.

Then she sent me to my good orthopod whose been treating my various horse injuries for 20 years, and who happened to diagnose my Lupus.
he got this shit straightened out
then told me "fang in nerve + weird bacteria= sux to be you for 3-5 months. Be grateful i know you heal fast. I'd tell other people 6-8."

The problem is in the fact that most Doctors don't practice medicine anymore they practice "Defensive Medicine!" Meaning ..yes they order tons of tests that may or may not add to the overall value of the disgnostic track based on patient presentation, but they order these tests none the less because they use the tests has a "Bulwark" to protect them in the event of a law-suit. Especially here in Calibonya. There's a new puppy clinic opening every month around here, but large-animal vet is a vanishing job. Used to be, every 160 acres or so was a farm, and a county would support three, four full scale practices. Now the typical farm has no livestock, and there's only one species per "operation" -- you either feed up hogs, or cattle, or have chicken houses.
So each big outfit has a vet on call until they're established, trains the hands and managers what to look for, then goes to flying a guy in if there's an emergency (which is huge). Like human clinical practice, it's all kind of...clinical. So, there's not nearly as much work for cow vets as there used to be, which you can call efficiency if you want to.
Vets know just as much medicine as MD's, that's for sure. Caring for pets is nice, but it doesn't seem as purposeful as the old profession where families' livelihood, and the welfare of huge herds of an area's food supply, were at stake.

Old Sailor said it, too much tech and not enough of the laying of hands.
I was taught a technique decades ago, taking a radial pulse (on the wrist) using 3 fingers instead of the usual 2. With practice, one could sense the pulse wave passing under the tips of the fingers and you could descern what was called the "Dicrotic Notch" which led you to possible issues with the valves within the heart itself. Just by taking a pulse with your fingers. That is how far gone the healing art has become.

my friend who was a cow vet out here for all the dairies was an awesomely smart and funny man. i think his license plate said FIXCOWS anyway he was an art lover and very practical. he just retired and move out of town. i miss eatin lunch with him.
and yeah he knew peoples livelihoods are at stake.
the economy is hell on the horse docs. people dont treat as soon or as well. wait on shit that should never wait more horses get put down. its weird. My one friend and keep going to costco and the movies for lack of routine calls which sux. its the same for all of them.
but horses are worth BIG MONEY in our showhorse area and so that will concentrate your efforts too, tho we know one guy practicing who is a horse vet who hates horses and really i know horrible things that have happened over there

That is how far gone the healing art has become.

ok so you agree with me. older docs have ART and are puzzle solvers and the younger guys are TECHNICIANS who rely on formulas diagnostic guides and are confounded by atypical presentations or complicated combinations of issues...
we have the same problem in the horse business with all the old guys dying and the kids that quit the business and never listened to dad to learn the ART. I like to say about the old man who raised me "I was not his most talented kid. i was the one who stayed."
horse trainers these days get horses in the barn and if they get problems they ship them and get horses that have no resistance to them. they never ever listened long enough to figure out how to Fix problems and work out ways around resistances. I see medicines problems the same way. used to be no horse was just thrown away. it was a shame on you. Now, not so much.
my great orthopod LOVES PUZZLES and loves complicated problems, so much so hes made a life of fitting tiny pieces of broken bones together with plates and screws if need be... Hes the guy the other doctors take their families to.

Thats kind of how it seems. I was lucky having never been sick, I barely get colds, and really don't know what the flu feels like. the few times I ever had to deal with an emergency room, or doctors was way way back ....until recently
Well this past june I lost my mom to stage 4 lung cancer, and it wasn't even the cancer that killed her, it was some fucking blood disease she got in the hospital. The hospital collapsed her lung during a biopsy, and then left her to lie in bed for 7 fucking days with a tube in her lung while doctor moe , curly, and larry had their daily circle jerks trying to figure out why her lung wasn't coming back.
I said from about day 2 that the tube has to be leaking, have whoever did the tube look at it. Oh doctor moe looked, found nothing, doctor curly decides on day 3 for some xray., doctor larry comes in later in day 3 and finds nothing, day 4 mom starts to swell up from air getting into her shin, she swelled up so bad her eyes became shut. I start pleading with them, the fucking line is leaking, I get Doctor shemp telling me it could be from blood not returning because a tumor was close to an artery. One smart doc days no way, its air and explained his reasoning, which made total sense. I said thank you, now will you send somebody who knows wtf they are doing and find this motherfucking leak already, she's laying around too long now, day 5 and 6 brings back the same worthless fucking parade of assholes. On day 7 they finally send up the chick who did the tube in the first place, she finds the leak immediately. Day 8 mom's lung is finally ok, tube is gone. By day 11 she's dead from sepsis, from laying around with a catheter in her for 11 days, along with some fucking nurses who barely kept her cleaned up. My plan was to get her out ASAP and bring her for out patient treatments. Nope, hospital fixed that plan real good with their total fucking lack of urgency for anything. 7 days...7 fucking days they stood around with their fucking thumb in their ass. yeah, mom was doomed, you don't have happy endings with stage 4 lung cancer, but they didn't even give her a shot at trying.
I saw many freinds in hospitals over the years, but what I saw here was fitting for a fucking 3rd world country, and this was at a top notch hospital.

Thanks. Believe me, I didn't take anything they said as gospel. I questioned everything. I was on them the whole time, because I did read up on lung tubes. You what a doctor is? An asshole that reads a bunch of books and takes tests. I can read the same books. What they SHOULD have over me is experience, but in mom's case I would say the score was me 1 and them zip. I told them from day 2 the tube was leaking. Occam's razor as far as i was concerned, air had to be leaking into the lung cavity and was putting pressure on the lung. Instead I get the keystone cops.

What killed me was when the girl who did the tube to start with came up on day 7. She did a few things that no other doc did to test my mom. She rolled her onto her side, along with some other things, and she found the leak immediately, and she told me exactly what I already knew. The kicker was she was probably a chick in her late 30's, blond, cute as hell, and fucking american.

my sister is an embalmer and i can tell you every hospital to be scared of in the area for a 100 mile radius.
pneumonia is a close second. people get it in the hospital and its resitant to treatment. or if you are very unlucky the docs make a mistake on you, then they pound fluids into you till your lungs fill up. cause f death is obvious and the mistake is buried. sissy has caught a few of those and calle the Medical examiner to take a second look to spank someone. And once she saved a live person while it was happening by pretending to be a nurse making an anon tip to the ME about something happening on the floor. Literally saved the womans life.
if an ambulance took me to that hospital i would call a taxi to take me to another.

notice she physically manipulated the patient.
you know, richard is right... theres a LOT you can learn by doing that. thats how you diagnose animals because they cannot speak. You have listen to gut and move the limbs and touch the gum and see what the cap refill time is. put hand on flank feel if it is lumpy, can you feel gassy gurgling or a stone, which feels different but also sticks out. i remember learning to feel different kinds of aedema. theres a hard kind a soft watery kind and a soft kind that doesnt bounce back properly. you feel it tho.
touching you patient is important.
and with horses if you dont touch respectfully, you patient kicks you. Docs can learn from that too.

Berserker, that is horrible. One thing I've found out is that American-educated nurses are scarce these days. Supposedly the imports from Thailand and the Philippines have taken a licensing exam or whatever, but the few remaining American nurses find them incompetent and undertrained. It's a whole f*cking expose waiting to happen for an enterprising investigative reporter, but it won't because anyone who puts the patients first will be called a racist.

when i had the pertussis last year and the pulmonologist gave me steroids without antibiotics and then fight with me about wether i had lupus and seemed unconcerned about the GIANT abcess on my lung, Grim nearly did just that.
i was sooo sick and remember thinking dimly, gasping for breath..."doesnt that jackass notice the vein is throbbing in Grim's forehead and that hes clenching his jaw and grinding his teeth?"
very softly in an overly controlled voice Grim asked "And what do we do when she runs out of antibiotics in the middle of the steroids and turns into pneumonia again?"
"oh i think she'll be fine but if shes not you can take her to the ER."
yup he said that. And i had an 11 cm long abcess on the lung already. the only reason hes alive is i said "Grim, i need to go home." So he took me to my mom's. They were gonna go back and kill that bastard together.

Well before she had the biopsy, the doc in whatever room thats does it warned me. He said there is a 50-50 chance the lung would colapse. he then said if that happens she will need a tube, and it will come back in a day or so. Well of course it collapsed, so that night I started hitting the net for info. After a day or so of it not coming back I started digging deeper and was reading how the lung is basically a balloon inside of a balloon. I built harleys for years, so I mounted a ton of tires in my time. I started thinking about how an inner tube starts displacing the air inside a tire when you pump it up for the first time to seat the bead. You hear air leaking past the spokes as the tube fills the cavity and displaces the air. I started thinking about the lung and what would happen if the air they were pumping in was escaping from the lung, but not out of the outer ballon, what would it do to the lung if the air built up. That with some other reading it started to dawn on me what may be happening. When the air finally built up to where her neck and shoulder and face started swelling up I knew right away. Air is literally filling up her fucking body, it has to be leaking. Anyway, it was a combo of reading and just common fucking sense.

You would have loved this one doctor.
It all started when my mom's back started hurting. She always had a tricky back, sometimes it would go out and not do it again for years. We thought this was on of those times. By week three I said mom this isn't the same, you need an MRI, you have to go get one in case a disk is bad. Well they get the report back and it says metastatic lesions. I was like omg, i know what that is, she got cancer, but what kind. Poor dad was cluless, he said hmm i have to look that up, but I already knew. Mom's regular doc sent her to the hospital, so at least she can get some pain meds.
I did NOT want her where she was, its not knows as a cancer place, so I fought for 4-5 days to get her moved to what IS a good place to be. We go through hell. We finally get her there, and this doc comes in with this fucking attitude. Like how did she get here, I don't know this woman, and then makes a comment along the lines of well she has stage 4 cancer so its terminal, like wtf you want me to do about it. My mom did not know how bad she was at the time, so she hears this fucking fuckwad and looks straight up at me from the wheelchair. The doc walks out so i said you ok mom? She looks at me and says "end of the line for me."
I wanted to kill that fucking doctor. I had a quick flash of me grabbing his lower jaw and breaking it off his skull and beating him to death with it.

"You can judge a society by how it treats the people in the dawn of life, the shadow of life, and the twilight of life."
Meaning the young, the sick/disabled and the old.

He has no clue how close to a brutal death he was. God as my judge, I was feeling something in me about to snap when he pulled that stunt. For a brief moment as this jerkoff was talking I actually caught myself looking for a chair to beat his face in with. I swear on my mom's soul, I envisioned punching into his mouth hard enough to make my fist exit the back of his skull. I'm not violent, I can't even hunt, but this dude was like a laughing grim reaper, and the only time I saw mom cry during this whole fucking episode was after this cocksucker got done with her. I wanted to stomp his guts.

you know im in pretty good shape and 20 years past my expiration date. but what will happen when a doc treats me like that man did to your mom is anyones guess with Grim involved. That is flippin incredible.wow. im stunned and i am familiar with that shit. i had a guy treat my friend with the stage 4 cancer like that. She refused morophene (he wanted her to take a pill and just be comfortable at my house till she died and gave her a couple weeks) and went home and got treatment. thats was months ago. BUt she was a fierce advocate for herself and when they told her crap like that she said bullshit.
i am stunned but happy cuz i love her. but i hate docs like that and refuse to see one that acts like that even once. you have one chance with me, and you fuckup and act all like im a meatbag and you can fucking never see me again... but im stunned... at a cancer hospital even. wow. i didnt know shit like that happened in america. Just to let you know, you can multiply all that times a hundred for OB/GYNs and what they used to put women and even babies through. I don't know if it's any better now because I only go to female nurse-practitioners for my checkups. The stories of condescension, abuse, malpractice, and downright cruelty are legion.

First, Drs. have huge egos as most of them are scary smart but like most brainy people, they have little people skills and experience.
Med Schools tend to exaggerate some of these flaws and an internship will turn them into a zombie with no feelings. (In their defense, drs see the worst of people on their worst day of their life and the outcomes usually aren't good. If the outcome isn't death then it's a good outcome.)
They are trained to ignore the patient (patients get in the way of diagnosis) and to rely only upon other trained individuals.
I'm talking Western Medicine here so this applies to most English speaking countries medical community.
Hospitals are strapped for qualified nurses and doctors so they take anyone they can justify to a medical board as qualified.
This tends to gather in a lot of undertrained people who are in it only for access to America and/or the bucks.
I counsel anyone to not rely on your doctor. Listen to what they say, ask questions and if you don't like the answers look things up and if they won't change your treatment, raise hell or leave.
