3. Have regulations that are fair and predictable.
How about we add a statement to the end of that. Regulations that actually accomplish a worthwhile objective and have a sunset clause in which the regulation and the entire agency disappear.

Since it's quiet here, I will allow myself the latitude of voicing my opinion that she should spend more time raising her kid and less time being a celebrity.

Small yard, 20-year-old gas mower went kaput, will use my new manual reel mower made by Fiskars. Nice.
Then I'll put in my earplugs and fire up the Husqvarna super brush-cutter with the string trimmer end affixed, and zip away the rough edges. Really nice.
Finally, I'll pull the earplugs, and get out my long handled Japanese cultivating tool, sort of like a big hoe with garden fork tines, purchase from Smith and Hawken ages ago. Loosen up and pull all the weeds in the borders, all downwind from our stand of French lilacs, in heavy bloom right now. Snifffffff! Snifffff! Really really nice.

my new manual reel mower made by Fiskars.
I was checking those out when the heavy, not self-propelling, gas powered monster wouldn't start the other day.

She shouldn't call it a 'memoir'...she should just call it 'my side of the story'. Nothing wrong with trying to publish a book...even if it's just about her tawdry moments...the MSM invested a lot in trashing her...she may as well capitalize on it.

There are ample news pool photos of the collegial gathering that were allowed to be taken at one hole. Back-pats and all that.
But judging from the official White House photo released above, it looks like it could have been the Schmooze Summit (also, there's at least one beer in there somewhere).
News consumers need to be careful on controlled events like this where the only official photo is, well, official. Like advance speech excerpts, the photos are carefully chosen to create a politically desirable impression. Remember the president lecturing the Dalai Lama photo?
In this scene, the president and VP know the photos are being snapped and look profoundly entertained by their guest speaker Speaker.

Last night on Wall Street Journal TV report, Alan "Skeletor" Colmes claimed that Fox News was now the "mainstream media" since more people watched it than watched ABC, NBC, or CBS.
I'm not certain that Skeletor was right in the claim about viewership. Usually he's blowing so much bullshit that there's a brown cloud around his head.
But Colmes still loves the Weener---"Little Tony didn't do nuttin wrong."

Gee.. another Texan governor who sounds like W (a lot in some phrasings..). That's a recipe for success!
Actually, I kinda like the guy, and Texas has shown the country how to get it right, but I don't think the country is ready for another Texan. It will definitely be interesting if he jumps in.
Ya know.. With the proportional primaries happening in so many states this coming election season, I think it could very possibly be no one gets the nomination outright before the convention.

Rep. Louie Gohmert: Obama ‘57 States’ Gaffe Hints At Loyalty To Islamic States:
And I know the President made the mistake one day of saying he had visited all 57 states, and IÂ’m well aware that there are not 57 states in this country, although there are 57 members of OIC, the Islamic states in the world. Perhaps there was some confusion whether heÂ’d been to all 57 Islamic states as opposed to all 50 U.S. states. But nonetheless, we have an obligation to the 50 American states, not the 57 Muslim, Islamic states. Our oath we took is in this body, in this House. And itÂ’s to the people of America. And itÂ’s not to the Muslim Brotherhood, who may very well take over Egypt and once they do, they are bent upon setting up a caliphate around the world, including the United States. And this administration will have been complicit in helping people who want to destroy our country out of the ignorance to think, if you help your enemies, theyÂ’re going to like you better.

It's weird, because I read the opposite. So I did some checking and you're right that he said (in 2010) that it's not right for Texas, but it looks like since then he's made certain illegal immigration remedies a priority (for example, sanctuary cities and tougher rules for getting drivers licenses [English only]).

BELGRADE (AFP) – British singer Amy Winehouse, who is struggling to overcome drug addiction, was booed at an open-air concert as she appeared to be too drunk to sing at the performance that officially kicked off a two-week European tour.
Some 20,000 people gathered for the highly-promoted concert at Belgrade's sixth-century Kalemegdan fortress late Saturday, but many soon left the concert, disappointed with the songstress's lacklustre act.
During the concert which lasted about 90 minutes Winehouse could only mumble some of the lyrics, failing to follow her band.
Wow, who could have seen that coming? I know people have her on their celebrity dead pool but I think she has the Keith Richards gene and will be alive quite a while.

1. Job creation in Texas definitely gives him credibility.
2. Balanced budget gives him credibility as well.
3. There's a good chance he'd get a Palin endorsement as she has commented before that she considers him a good friend.
4. I actually think that being a former Democrat helps him because he can play the "I used to be a Democrat but they went off the deep end and left me behind" card.
5. Only thing I wonder about is whether there would be too many "non-Romneys" in the race, though it's possible that the anti-Romney vote could crystallize behind Perry.

they're really just enabling a rich asshole's addictions.
One thing I can say about Keith is he's not an asshole. He's friendly and gracious to his fans (as well as the crews and behind the scene people).
More importantly, if he wants something, he will pay for it. Unlike a lot of other musicians who expect everything will be handed to them because of their fame.
I am constantly amazed at how rare this trait is.

Cuomo's dad, absolutely. But the way he is fighting with his own party and their pimps (the unions), the apple fell rally far from the fucking tree.
Give him 3-5 more years of this type of behaviour and I will be willing to consider looking past the sins of his father.

Not surprising to me. I truly believe that on domestic issues he's on target. His problems are that (a) most of his foreign policy ideas have been made obsolete by nuclear weapons, (b) he's so passionate that sometimes he seems unbalanced, (c) the cultish behavior of his supporters.

Sorry...but Cuomo should be getting gang raped in federal prison right now for his role in the Fannie and Freddie fiasco which led to the economic meltdown
While at HUD, he was supposed to be overseeing F&F. Instead, the Big Banks used him to push for legislation to force increased home ownership with lower underwriting standards so his buddies could scam millions off the sub-prime market.

I tried to pick 6 categories that today's conservatives are really concerned with. I didn't pick foreign policy because I didn't see that high on the agenda this election. In 2004 it would have been high, not so this time.
But I did mention it in the summary on the Ron Paul eval because that is what is dragging him down so bad.

I hope every Dad gets to feel special today.
I read a disheartening article the other day that said that Dad's feel under-appreciated. Father's Dad takes a back seat to Mother's Day - even the amount of greeting cards reflect that - there's a big disparity there. Nearly 80% of men surveyed (I don't remember who did this poll but anyway....) say they feel the get the short end of the stick on these days.

Not high on the agenda now, but I'm betting it will be before the general election.
Think about little things like Iranian missiles in Venezuela, the increasing China/Russian friendliness, Iran announcing their nukes in the next few months, etc. seeping out into the awareness of the general public.
Also- barky is a complete mincing cypher foreign policy wise, and the bad guys in the world know it. My guess is as his horrible regime draws to a close, said bad guys are going to be getting in their last licks while they can before adults gets back in charge.

Jeff Goldstein wrote the best "response" to Keller a few days ago:
The truth is, we have allowed a media culture to form in this country that is rotten to its core. It is petty, spiteful, vindictive, triumphalist, arrogant, profoundly biased, and undoubtedly left-leaning. We have given this media the power to shape our narratives, inform our decisions, and — because there are few if any consequences for doing so — create and destroy individuals with the impunity of a hive minded mob embarking on a wilding.
Helping the media along in such a project — as many “conservatives” do, by accepting as a matter of nature, unchangeable as a hurricane, the premises the media advances — is the kind of intellectual dereliction that has brought us to this point in our nation’s history, where 20% or less of the population controls the reins of political power, as well as the vast majority of our cultural institutions, from the media and the academy, to putative moral authority to champion the environment, the working man, the poor.
Word. True of the Republican media as well.

I've questioned a lot of her decisions in the past, but I don't really have a problem with the book. If Levi gets a book deal to peddle his lies, there's nothing wrong with her telling her side of the story to set the record straight.
What I find funny is the media focus on her. We never hear anything about her brother who served in a combat unit in Iraq and is taking over the fishing business, or her younger sister who seems to stay out of trouble and races stock cars. Both seem a lot more interesting to me than Bristol.

The thing is they are doing good conservative things, so no coverage. Bristol did things liberals think are hypocritical, like drinking and having sex, but teenagers will be teenagers. Why on earth did Chris Wallace require Jon S. to drink from the mug before they spoke?
FWIW, I liked how Chris Wallace got his zingers in and I was amazed at the contempt Jon S. has for the Fox audience. When Jon S. compared himself to Will Rogers I expected a bolt of lightning to strike, leaving only a steaming pile of.....ashes. How can he compare himself to a man who said he never met a man he didn't like?

Zelazny is Mr Y-not's favorite author. I really need to get off my duff and read the Amber series.
I'm not reading anything right now. Too tired. I usually read a few pages of a Jeeves & Wooster story and pass out with the book in my hand.

It is a great SF classic. If you haven't read it you are missing a good read. And you can get them all in that one book.

OK, I have one "excuse," but it's a pretty weak one. Mr Y-not used to go on and on about MAR Barker's Man of Gold, so I tried reading it. Did. Not. Like. So I kind of concluded that we have different taste in books, which I'm sure we do to some extent since I am not in general into sci fi.

That was very weird, I couldn't figure it out either, vivi. Unless it contained kool-aid and Jon S. refused to play along. I did love how he is 100% confident that the MBM -- including NY Times, which is merely "sensationalist" -- is not at all biased towards the liberal agenda. Huh???

Yep, Peaches, you're right. I think it was a Kool Aid reference. Very ballsy of CW and it set the tone, I think. Before this interview, I thought CW was kind of wishy-washy. Not anymore. He made his points deftly and displayed the skill seen in the most effective liberal spokespeople- just make the point, get the point out there and move on to the next one, don't waste too much time defending the opponent's rebuttal. The Palin/herpes clip was so mean spirited that no wonder JS got shirty. So was the suggestion that mocking Cain the way they did was racist. I am only sorry that it only lasted 11 minutes. And I"m glad CW did not let JS get away with the filibuster.

Excerpt:
Bonner joined the Communist Party during the Kruschev years but broke with them after the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia. She married Sakharov in 1971 and spent a good part of the next two decades being harrassed, imprisoned and exiled in Gorky along with her husband. Yet she always stood her ground and never relented in her criticism of Soviet communism and was Sakharov's lifeline to the West especially when she accepted Sakharov's Nobel Prize in Physics when the Soviets refused to let him to travel to Norway. In 1989, Mikhail Gorbachev finally ended the harrassment against Bonner and Sakharov, ended their exile and publicly welcomed them back.

Its one piece of meat that's almost completely impossible to screw up.
One of my faves is to coat the outside with a rub of olive oil, sea salt, red pepper flakes, black pepper, rosemary, lots of minced garlic, and fennel seed.
Slow roast in the oven for most of the day on a rack over a semi-deep pan.
In the last couple of hours place in halved potatoes, onions sliced an inch thick, and *oranges sliced an inch thick with rosemary and a sprinkling of brown sugar on top[*
in the pan to soak up/marinate in/ roast in the pork fat and drippings.
The pork shoulder comes out crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth, slide off the bone tender on the inside.
And is almost orgasmically delicious. No joke.
Its stupidly easy to make. Less than thirty minutes prep time.
Even the morons who pride themselves on never cooking can handle this one.
