First Motocross, Now His Shotgun: Jon Huntsman Shows a Moderate Can Be Macho
CONCORD, N.H.—Jon Huntsman, who has made much of the motorcycles he owns, bragged about his shotgun Saturday as he wooed gunowners in a state where the former Utah governor is counting on a breakout performance to vault him into the race for the GOP presidential nomination.“I’ve been shooting guns since I was, I guess, 6, when I started with a BB gun, and then a .22 when I was 12, which I still have, by the way. And then I have a shotgun, a 12-gauge shotgun,” Huntsman told reporters outside Concord’s Everett Ice Arena, where more than 50 gun vendors were gathered for a show and sale.
No report on whether he asked if he could get him a huntin' license there.

Update: Underwhelmed by Huntsman - Good piece, especially in regards to asshat campaign consultants John Weaver and Mark McKinnon.

Steve Zahn is one guy..
Jude Law is another (he still gets work but not like he used too)
Colin Farrell..
Anyway, many of these guys seem to be propped up but for whatever reason, the public doesn't support them.. shitty choices in projects and movies.. Or just flat out poor public persona.. They fizzle out... they get jobs still but are not the headline star that they were proposed to be..
Seems like the same way with Jon F. Huntsman..

Yeah, I just picked up one of those a couple of months ago. Great home defense weapon. One thing I learned when I bought it, though. I'll never, ever buy a gun from Cabela's again. What a monumental pain in the ass.
BTW, that's a pretty nice looking shotgun that ol' Horseface is totin'. A gentleman's bird gun if I ever saw one. Way out of my price range. He's a man of the people alright.

Interesting thought. I find it hard to believe that Democrats still have any enthusiasm for Mrs. C, but I find Democrats hard to believe in general, so who knows.

Kara Krill, a clinical business manager on New York's Long Island, has claimed breach of contract, breach of good faith and fair dealing, discrimination on the basis of her disability and gender, and negligent misrepresentation on the part of Cubist Pharmaceuticals.
Krill, who developed a reproductive disability called Asherman's syndrome after she gave birth to her first child in June 2007, and her husband hired a surrogate mother, or gestational carrier, to carry and deliver their second child. After learning the gestational carrier was pregnant with twins in November 2010, Krill informed her employer that she expected to go on paid maternity leave when the twins were born in May 2011, according to the suit.
When Krill had her first child in June 2007, she received 13 weeks of paid leave under Cubist's maternity leave policy. But a Cubist human resources analyst informed Krill she would be entitled to five days of paid leave under Cubist's adoption leave policy and not any paid leave under Cubist's maternity leave policy. The company provides adopting parents who work 20 hours or more per week five paid days of leave plus up to $4,000 in expenses for the adoption, according to court documents. The company's paternity leave policy also provides male employees who work 20 hours or more per week five paid days of leave.
In an email to the human resources employee, Krill complained about what she said was discriminatory treatment.
"As we have previously informed you, the children being born are mine and were conceived with my husband. They are only being carried by [a gestational carrier] as a result of my physical disability. ... Cubist's treatment of me differently than other employees having babies is not fair and is placing me in an untenable condition," she wrote, according to court documents. "But for my physical disability, I would be receiving the paid maternity leave offered by Cubist. Accommodating my disability would not require [Cubist] to provide me with any more benefit than other mothers."

We can all see what is coming, and it won't be pretty. The JEF will move forward with his plan, that to throw out program need after program need, no real specifics, but enough of a taste to sound good to the independents, then watch, as expected by him and his cynical campaign staff, and see the House Rs and maybe even some of the R candidates, reject his plan elements.
It will be a blame-game campaign. And an ugly one.

I got into a very heated discussion here a few days back regarding how Mr. Mittems' business experience could help turn the economy around.
I called serious bullshit on that. Mittens is apparently smart..and has done well for himself, but his experience, especially put in context of his policy and performance as governor, suggest he has no understanding of how to change the economic climate to allow growth, let alone the inclination to do so.
He did well while at Bain Capital trimming the fat of businesses within the prevailing regulatory and tax structure. While governor, he did nothing to improve the business climate, but rather made it worse with his policies.
He raised corporate taxes and actually proposed a regional cap and trade program that he admitted would damage industry and cause job loss.
I'm surprised that this isn't any attention, but his own economic development cabinet head, the goofily named Ranch Kimball, said Mittens had no program to promote economic growth.

Were both so filled with adulation when young that they now cannot bear to fail? Or can they only lose gracefully if the losses are not of their making?
We are now beginning to see the impacts of an entire generation, the self-esteem generation, who have been handed accolades for merely possessing potential. They didn't swing and miss, they were merely fine-tuning their game. Everyone received a trophy. Everyone was a winner. In a generation where no child has ever been taught how to deal with failure, both LeBron and Obama make for fine elder statesmen.
Imagine, two generations have been brought up in the manner ascribed to both these men cowards. How many thousands of similarly petulant and self-serving young folks will we need to clean up after in our daily lives.
Parents need to take a long, hard look at these two and realize that, despite their successes, they are weak and cowardly and, not every person will make it to the NBA, much less the presidency. How will their children compensate for their short-comings when they can't conceive of holding an actual job?
It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I had picked one out at Gander Mountain on a Saturday afternoon and was scheduled to take shotgun lessons the next morning. However, I never made it to the lesson. I ended up in the hospital with a AICD (CRT) device implanted in my chest. Now I can't fire a shotgun because of the jarring to the upper body.
Damnit!
At least I hadn't paid for the gun yet.

My grandaddy let me fire the rifle, but never the shotgun. And, sadly, he has passed. So, the local guy who trains other instructors will have to do.

One of the best parts is the stock exhibitions--even tho' it's just looking at sheep, cows, etc., you can see first-hand what dedication and responsibility REALLY mean. The kids involved are so damn great. Guess you could say they are the embodiment of America.
One of the things that struck me during the day was the proliferation of tattoos--I don't remember EVER seeing so many--from teens to people my age. Back in the day, they were confined to the ride workers, obvious ex-sailors, and the occasional biker. That isn't meant as an indictment, just an observation.
All in all, a tremendous day.

It's pretty good money to bet that it was these clowns idea for McLame to "suspend" his campaign for that emergency meeting in DC. The meeting that was set up as a photo op for the SCOAMF to look like he was "cool and in charge"

Curious that the media (almost*) never advances Democrats in name only for elections--well, unless it's against a Republican. I wonder if Gabby Giffords got any media love during her initial primaries agains more leftist candidates?
* I say "almost" because Bob Casey and Bob Casey Jr., both of whom are so moderate-conservative it's surprising the DNC allowed them to call themselves Democrats, were media golden-boys in PA. I even voted for Casey Jr. for state attorney general back in the day, Ah, Pennsylvania, home of the pro-life Democrats and pro-choice Republicans, and where a majority of the state legislature was turned over in a single election just a few short years ago...

@153--didn't find any, this was a pretty small affair. Just did the cheesy fries,(with bacon), fried dough, and strawberry shortcake that was easily the finest I've ever encountered. Plus the obligatory cotton candy.

Strawberry shortcake....yum. I can't remember the last time I had a great dish of it. The last few times I've had it there has been a weird artificial type of taste to it. I'm guessng non-dairy topping and artificial sweeteners were used.
Maybe I need to go to a county fair.

NATO kills ex-Gitmo detainee in Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — NATO and Afghan forces have killed a former Guantanamo detainee who returned to Afghanistan to become a key al-Qaida ally, international officials said Saturday.
Sabar Lal Melma, who was released from Guantanamo in 2007, had been organizing attacks in eastern Kunar province and funding insurgent operations, NATO spokesman Capt. Justin Brockhoff said.
Troops surrounded Melma's house in Jalalabad city on Friday night and shot him dead when he emerged from the building holding an AK-47 assault rifle. Several other people were detained, NATO said.
After the fall of the Taliban, Melma, 49, was given the rank of brigadier general in the Afghan National Army and placed in charge of approximately 600 border security troops in Kunar, according to a file made public by WikiLeaks.
But he was suspected of still helping carry out rocket attacks against U.S. troops, and he was captured in August 2002 while attending a meeting with U.S. military officials in Asadabad and transferred to the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay in October that year.
While imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, the U.S. determined he was a "probable facilitator for al-Qaida members" and was also thought to have links to Pakistan's intelligence service. In 2005, he was described as a "medium risk" to the United States.
He was sent back to Afghanistan in September 2007.

@171--All the ingredients for the shortcake were locally produced, it's a local landmark. No artificial crap of ANY sort.
You can find similar stuff at most smaller fairs, the large ones unfortunately tend to go with "store bought " ingredients.

My 870 is for close in work. Home defense. 18 inch barrel, pistol grip, extended magazine. For that purpose, you don't need hot loads.
Sounds like the same one I have. I have it loaded with #4 shot.

Speaking of Outlaw...
There was a full-on SWAT take down of a couple of meth labs in town a few days ago. One, was at the local HQ for the Outlaws motorcycle gang. It was straight down the road from me, about 3 miles away. I had no idea they even had an HQ here.

No rich politician would ever boast of having an 870, or a side-by-each. Over'n'unders is where it's at, and my Browning Citori is about as cheap as you can go and get into that club. Mine doesn't have much engraving.
The fact that he does not claim to have ever shot a high-power rifle (and consigns precision smallbore to teenagers, the tacky little shit--he's just lost the NCAA vote!) speaks volumes about his disengenuity, and his hypopenilism as well. Even Obama claims to shoot .223. But he's lying.
GW Bush? Weatherby Athena, 20 gauge.

Jesus guys, bragging about your 870's is like showing off your belly-button. Sure they're OK, but aren't they like issued at birth
Heh. I suppose.
Actually, I grew up shooting Winchester Model 12s. My Dad had the whole set from .410 to 12 guage. I have to say, when I was an early teen I preferred my Mom's Browning Sweet 16 for ducks and quail. Light as a feather as I recall.
Mom was a total bitch about making sure I cleaned it right, though. Sometimes there was just no pleasing that woman.

Hey, nobody said a rich pol should own an 870. Just pose with one for hoi polloi and then laugh about it later at the club.

If I ever won the Presidency, I'd have to claim executive privilege to short-circuit the DC gun laws and take my collection with me. Maybe I could get interesting loaners from the Smithsonian's dusty back room and from the overflow warehouse at Anniston Army Depot.
