Update
The Packers have won Super Bowl 45. Congrats to Aaron Rodgers, the Packers Defense(who won the game) and their fans!
Ah, Super Bowl Sunday is finally upon us. This yearÂ’s contestants are the Packers of Green Bay and the Steelers of Pittsburgh. Much to Kratos delight, there are no cheerleaders for either team. Oh and Brett Favre has sent Aaron Rodgers a text wishing him good luck.
The Green Bay Packers squeaked their way into the playoffs with a little help from losses by the Giants and Buccaneers.The Packers are on a five game winning streak including their last two regular season games. They entered the playoffs as the NFC Wild Card at the lowest ranked 6th seed and have taken to the road to beat the Vick led Eagles, Ryan led Falcons, and Cutler/Collins/Haine led Bears.
Since the 1990 season when the NFL expanded the playoffs to twelve teams only one 6th seed has won the Superbowl.
The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the playoffs as the 2nd seed after winning the AFC North. The Steelers won three of the first four games of the season without starting Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who had been suspended for some unpleasantness in the offseason. The Steelers have had home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They beat the Ravens and Jets on the way to their franchiseÂ’s eighth Superbowl appearance.
Packer/Steeler Super Bowl History
The Green Bay Packers have been in four Super Bowls in the modern era and have won three( I, II, and XXXI).
The Pittsburgh Steelers, the only franchise to win six Super Bowls*, have been to seven in the modern era. Super BowlÂ’s IX, X, XIII, XIV, XXX, XL and XLIII. The only loss coming to the cocaine fueled Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX.

Team Logos
The Pittsburgh Steelers added a logo to their helmet in 1948. The logo you see is called The Steelmark, an insignia used by the America Iron and Steel Institute. It is made up of three colored hyper cycloids (diamonds with inward curving edges). Each color represents material needed to make steel. Yellow for coal, Orange for Iron Ore, and Blue for steel scrap. (Steel is almost always recycled.) The Steelmark is on the left and Steeelers logo on the right.

Great Wall Street Journal article on Pittsburgh Steelers' Defensive Coordinator Dick Lebeau, the creator of the Zone Blitz defense. Dick Lebeau invented the Zone Blitz when he was defensive coordinator in Cincinnati. However, in 1991 he was fired and took a job as the Defensivebacks' coach in Pittsburgh. The Defensive Coordinator at the time was Dom Capers(the current Packers Defensive Coordinator). So, if while watching today's game you notice each teams' 3-4 defenses look similar, well that's because they are one in the same.

The Terrible Towel was invented by Myron Cope. Cope did color commentary for the Steeler games. Here is audio of him. Yeah, we had to listen to that for 30+ years and he was almost always drunk.

That whole stadium is one big joke. Do you know what the advice the Cowboys had for the Packers was? Hope you enjoy cold showers. Yep that "awesome" overpriced stadium does not have enough hot water capacity for the hometeam locker room to have hot water in the showers.

But the NFL offered to give them a refund. You know, the face value of the ticket when they spent five times that amount for it.
also take into account the cost of flying to Dallas from Green Bay or Pittsburgh, the hotel stay, the alcohol, the time off work?
People probably spent 5-7 grand to go to this game

Did anyone watch the Obumbles interview? I just got off the phone with a friend who said she watched it. She's not very political although she said she's not a fan of Zero, and she thought O'Reilly was pretty hard on him. She said O didn't really answer the questions but just danced around them. (shocka!)

Drudge has a story linked that they've closed several of the gates into the stadium and people are waiting in line 2-3 hours to get groped and admitted. Sound like a hockey game could break out at any moment.

Sat.'s WSJ had a great op-ed "The Tax Bowl":
"....Both team's players would be a lot richer if they played all their games in Dallas. Take...Aaron Rodgers. He made $8.6 million in 2009...of that we calculate he paid roughly $680,000 in state and $3.1 million in federal income and payroll taxes. Steeler qb Ben Roethlisberger didn't earn as much, but he got to keep a relatively larger chunk of his haul--$4.6 million of his $7.7 million salary. (This excludes taxes paid to states that tax players visiting on away games.)
Unlike Wisconsin, which has a graduated income tax that charges top earners 7.75% on earnings over $220,000, PA has a 3% flat rate. Even football players can behold the merit of a flat tax. Of course, both players would keep a lot more of their earnings if like qb Tony Romo (salary $625,000) they played for the Cowboys since TX levies no state income tax. On the other hand, Packer and Steeler fans will pay if they travel to TX for the game since Texas's bar tax is more than twice as high as their home state's.
It's also worth noting that Messrs. Rodgers and Roethlisberger will save roughly $750,000 combined this year (if their salaries stay the same) thanks to the extension of the Bush tax cuts. This should console Sunday's loser."

But I have to wonder if I'm being fair here. I haven't read enough about the accusations to really know one way or another, except that 3 rape accusations seems indicative of some stupid douchey behavior on his part. Somebody put me on to some fucking knowledge so my blind hatred of Big Ben isn't unwarranted.
At one time smoking gun dot com had the police report for the most recent incident. It really seemed after reading that, that Ben got away with raping a stupid, drunk underaged (for drinking) college girl. (Still being stupid and drunk doesn't mean you deserve to be raped).

I noticed something just now while taking my puppy Gonzo the Ridiculous out for a walk. We have several transplanted Pittsburghers living in our trailer park neighborhood, and they are, or were anyway, all pretty rabid Steeler fans. About 6-8 trailers houses would fly their Steeler flags every game day all during the season and one even had a lawn gnome where they would put a kids-sized jersey on it.
While out in the hood though, I did not see any Steeler-related paraphrenalia, which is quite odd considering...
...and when I think on it, I don't remember any all season.
Think maybe they're embarrassed by their QB?

It's not.
The last girl (a college girl) didn't want to go through the trial and so the charges were dropped.
I won't call him Rapistburger, he's never been convicted. But when he's talking multiple allegations that crop up in a matter of months and not years, he's got some explaining to do. And he never really did. The NFL basically allowed him to skate.
So feel free to root for the team that doesn't have scumbag leading the way.

I still think the Fox pre game is miles ahead of the others. I have a bias against ESPN though.
I hate ESPN for multiple reasons, one of which being they don't show NHL highlights. (or at least almost never)

The ribs were excellent but they were dry rub and not sauced. Hubby and 7 year old loved them but 16 and 19 wanted sauce which I had thoughtfully provided on the side. The rub is very good. I could only eat 3 so they are currently fighting for the rest of mine. Not too much trouble either.
Hubby happy-happy. He agreed to go to and enjoyed the "King's speech with me last night" so he was rewarded then and now had a full belly of ribs and the superbowl.

This may be my bitter disappointment speaking, but this has been an epic fail thus far for Dallas stadium. First the issue with the seats.
And now, how many players have left this game with injuries that on any other field don't even cause a bruise? By my count there have been 4 people knocked out of the game directly by the field.

Then I made a comment about Rothleisberger's lack of integrity during the Seattle/Pittsburgh Superbowl and how he later admitted to Letterman that the one T.D. that was called by the ref wasn't over the line (which all of us at home could see). To that, this same person told me to "F U again". I wasn't even talking about Rothleisberger's lack of character issues.
He's the one that brought it up again.

No, the new standard for artificial fields is to use shredded tires (no shit) as the base, then the green plastic fibers that simulate grass coming up through them. If you watch the slow-mo instant replays, you can see little bits of tire coming up off the field from their shoes. And that shit sucks when you're sweaty and fall and it sticks to you everywhere just like sand at the beach.

I haven't seen it personally, but Jones spent like a fleet of drunken sailors on Jerry Jones World. It's the best money can buy. I can't imagine that the field is lacking anything. Maybe the freezing temperatures are stiffening things up a bit though that seems really unlikely.
I'm thinking it's the players just going all out because it's the SB. They're actually doing 101%.

I'll join you in admitting some appreciation for at least one of their...uh....songs. That "Tonight's gonna be a good night" song is played over the PA system before a lot of games I ref, and it does help pick things up and put me in a good mood to deal with a bunch of BS that will usually follow.

A local area High School put on a 9-11 football pregame and halftime show that had all of us, home and visitors, standing, cheering, and crying.
I would much rather watch a deteriorated tape of that on a 9 inch B&W TV that suffers from excessive snow and a blown speaker than anymore "shows" like that mess.

Those of you who were here last night know I had to go to a wake at 5:00 eastern tonight.
Man they had an open casket, I think the cop shot him in the head cause he had a shitload of makeup on and there seemed to be an apparent indentation in his forhead.
His wife was absolutely a mess, couldn't even stand.

We started up a conversation about him a couple of weeks ago and I went to You Tube to look at his highlight reels again and, as always, the man could bring tears to my eyes. Just beautiful to watch. Character such as his is sorely missing in professional sports these days.

Glee is actually pretty good. It was better in the beginning, but now they seem to want to sex it up a bit too much for my taste. I was a Gleek in school so it's kind of fun to watch.

Schools and many businesses are closing early tomorrow so everyone can welcome home the Pack. If they are winners, everyone will head to Lambeau field tonight. Last Super Bowl, over 100,000 people showed up at the parking lot of the stadium to celebrate. Not one single arrest. It was an amazing thing. It's a profound experience to be surrounded by that many happy people.

Commercials were tremendously underwhelming, by and large.
Maybe a couple good budweiser commercials (home remodel, product placement), a good snickers commerical (logging), good bridgestone commercial with the beaver... the coke commercial with the guards was cool, too.
all the car commericals were terrible, except the C 200 detroit commercial, which i thought was decent.

the best loss of the Obama curse was the CT girls basketball team. During the press conference after they reached some undefeated milestone Obama called the coach and the coach said they hadn't lost a game since Obama took office and both of them will keep on winning together.
They lost the next game to Stanford with Condi watching in the stands..

eh kinda, losing in the big game is a little more painful, especially considering how they lost. They had 3 opportunities to pull that game out and blew it every time. Green Bay played the better game there is no complaining. i've seen two sb wins and two loses

I can't think of any other reason why they would have allowed him to waste viewers' time with that senseless, pointless, dull, tedious, boring and worthless piece of fluff promoted as an interview with Obama, who answered questions so quickly without thinking about them, incidentally, that that phony so-called "interview" had to have been scripted in advance to deliberately show Obama in a favorable light.
With that phony performance earlier tonight, O'Reilly lost any remaining credibility that he had left after his many other cheesy performances. Never mind that his tacky efforts to rehabilitate Obama made it obvious that they are two of a kind, a pair of real putzes..
