Taliban Frees Hundreds, Including Top Leaders, In "Prison Break" In Afghanistan
— Ace

"Prison break" in quotes, because who knows how much help they had from the inside, outside, and topside.

Hundreds of prisoners escaped from a jail in Afghanistan's south on Monday through a tunnel dug by Taliban insurgents, officials said, a "disaster" for the Afghan government and a setback for foreign forces planning to start a gradual withdrawal within months.

...

Tooryalai Wesa, governor of volatile southern Kandahar province, told Reuters 488 prisoners escaped due to the negligence of Afghan security forces at the province's main jail. He said the tunnel led to a nearby house.

Khandahar, "the South," which is Pashtun-controlled and ergo Taliban country.

I renew my call for a partition in the country, establishing the anti-Taliban north as its own sovereign nation -- and then we support that nation and make war on the Pashtun one (the bigger part).

I am so sick of trying to preserve old borders and the idea of pluralistic multicultural society in places that are primitive and savage.

The Pashtuns like the Taliban and support them; let them choke on that. We may not be able to save the whole country, but we can preserve the anti-Taliban parts of it, and bomb the shit out of the rest of it.

The corrupt Hamid Karzai is president because he's a Pashtun and Pashtuns will of course not permit a non-Pashtun to head their government. Fine. They can have their choice of government but then we must impose our choice of countries and borders.

There is no reason to split Iraq, actually it's better that we don't, as the Sunnis and Kurds prevent the Shia from simply being annexed by Iran. With A-Stan, it doesn't even matter.

Personally, and this is extremely devious and cynical, but I think we should do everything we can to push India into war with Pakistan. Let the indians slaughter them while we sit back and watch from afar.

I think, since we're clearly declining in power, that we need to do more with less. We should adopt the British strategy in mainland europe during the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century, which was by playing all sides against each other in mainland europe.

Let's resurrect the immortal quote of Sir Charles James Napier:

"You say that it is your custom [in India] to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; [then] beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

'There has never been an escape from Stalag 13 my Afghan jail. Isn't that correct Sgt. Schultz?'

94 It's funny how when wars are short term and limited it just seems that means they go on for years and years. And yet our all out unlimited wars seen to last about 4 years.

95 How do you say, "I know nothing.  I see nothing," in Pushtu?

96 Actually, the Pashtun/Taliban areas of Afghanistan are not so easily drawn as "North/South." 1) There are Pashtun/Taliban areas in the North, notably Kunduz. 2) Kabul is a mixed area. 3) I am not sure all Taliban are Pashto. Could be wrong though. There seem to be a lot of attacks in central Afghanistan even though its Hazari...or maybe its because its Hazari (Shia) that the Taliban go there to do attacks...

97 Did we chip them? Let them return home. But if we see them congregate, its time for a hellfire up their ass.

I agree. The bonus being that most of the raw material wealth, like say copper mines, are in the north...

So, in the words of VP "Sleepy" Bite-me, divide that suckah up!

99 I'm out here near Kandahar, and have been laughing/facepalming about this shit all day. There goes our nice, quiet summer.

101 How do you bomb them back to the stone age when they have not yet advanced to the stone age?

Something we learned a long time ago, is that if you KILL THEM, you don't need to guard them.

103 Step aside and let the Russians get their revenge while publicly disposing of unneeded nuclear devices. And... if a few go off course and land on Waziristan so much the better. Just blame it on tired old technology (*grin*).
