— Dave in Texas I expect the Obama DoJ to file suit before the month is out.
After hours of contentious and often emotional debate, the Texas House passed HB 12, the controversial "sanctuary cities" legislation, which would prohibit cities, counties and other governmental entities or special districts from adopting a policy that prevents law enforcement from asking persons lawfully detained or arrested if they are in the country legally. Entities not in compliance could risk losing state funds.
That, on top of a new voter id law, AND a budget that will likely be the second net cut in actual spending, from back to back legislative sessions, gives me some cause for cheer.
Meanwhile, the O continues his petty haranguing of the state he "hasn't given up on", refusing to grant Texas disaster relief status for wildfires that have been raging for two months now, and also his out of control EPA wresting control of permits for "greenhouse gas generators" from the state.
He's visiting by the way. Gave a "rousing" speech on immigration reform in El Paso yesterday, then came to Austin for a fundraiser. I sincerely hope he enjoyed his visit. Gov. Perry was invited to the El Paso DREAM Act party, he wisely took a pass on that now-famous Obama Paul Ryan-Sam Alito Presidential courtesy.
I predict it's the last time we'll see him here.

Suppose we had cities calling sanctuary for other crimes? Would that fly?
Suppose Charleston declared sanctuary for everyone who violated the federal laws against lynching?
How long would that fly?

As I read through the list provided by FEMA, it appears the Texas wildfires should have been approved for aid per the primary factors.
But did you see the name of some of the charities listed? One of them is called "Jeff Davis County Relief Fund". Can anybody but racist bitter clingers live there?

Here in my sanctuary city they are having to replace all the multimillion dollar turf fields because of illegals and "cell phone soccer". Fields that should have lasted 10 years at area schools are lasting 2 and parks and recs had to hire additional people to clean up the trash.
The cops WILL NOT come to the fields where hoards of illegals swarm the fields at every opportunity because they do not want to get into a situation where they have to enforce the law, talk to them, etc. I'm not sure whether they are afraid or whether they want to appease this constituancy.
At the same time, they are raising the tax rate to attempt to keep up with increased school registrations and infrastructure stresses due to other nearby municipalities cracking down on illegals.
Good for Texas

So we need to pass laws requiring law enforcement to enforce laws? Maybe if we made the politicians swear some kind of oath that they promise to follow the Constitution...
Yeah. That would be cool.

There was some discussion at the last meet up of having one down in the Houston area, but a Houston area moron will have to step up to organize that one.

What is that? Like a rave without the music? And with a soccer ball?
Posted by: momma at May 11, 2011 09:12 AM (penCf)
Instead of getting a field permit, they scope out local fields, find one that is available and send out a text which then goes out to everyone in their soccer team/group/ etc. About 30 minutes later the players arrive or swarm the field with their families and food trucks in tow. They even have a portable PA system. They park across driveways, in no parking zones, etc. The cops will not come. Will not. They will eventually arrive about 3 hours from the original phone call---what seems to be the problem?
Now the city wants to put up lights to extend the usefulness of the field.

Read Jim Geraghty making fun of this incredibly skewed poll. Many of these people didn't know their party affiliation and 45%-ish were dems.

Glowbama - see you later, procrastinator.
Don't let the door hit ya where allah split ya . . .
"Sanctuary cities" - that term makes my skin crawl. Yes, we know you're here in the USA ILLEGALLY, but come on over for the free school, food and medical care. Hell, it's only other people's money you're spending. If it's not enough to cover your free services, we'll just tack more from them. Live it up. Since Glowbama's the presentdent the law now only applies to the white people.

Even worse than that. Ed Morrissey has a post up about the sampling. Dems at 46% and Rs at 29%. Complete junk poll.
If Obama is so popular, why do they have to egg the pudding like that?

Dave in Texas, having perused the bill, it seems it also gives the State Attorney General (the wonderful Greg Abbott) the right to haul into court the asses of those elected leaders of any "sanctuary" city and prosecute them for not enforcing state, and federal, immigration laws.
If I am correct in how I am reading the bill, that is awesome. No longer will people like Bill White (loser) be able to ignore the law and not be held accountable for that. No longer will the Cheif of Police in Austin be allowed to thumb his nose at immigration laws without winding up in court himself. And the real beauty part is that if hauled into court, those clowns will have to pay the cost of litigation themselves as they have, in fact, broken the law and will not be covered by their own city's legal department.
Passing that law the day Obama shows up in Austin was a thing of pure beauty. You can't say that we Texans don't have a sense of humor. Maybe Obama will come back for the governor's signing of the Voter ID bill.

He cannot keep kicking the 48 percenters in the teeth and expect to keep all the the 52 percenters in the next election. Some of those 52 percenters voted to be part of history. Will they ever even show up at the polls again?
Others, like Henry Alford of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, have seen the light and will actively work for the President's opponent. Nothing like the zeal of the converted.
The unions have expended most of their political capital and will not be as influential in 2012 and beyond. (Thank you Scott Walker for removing their mask.)
Obviously, we can go on and on. I am just wondering what the point is of metaphorically shouting "I Won" at the very people who did not want you to win in the first place. Time to grow up, Mr. President.

GregÂ’s Comprehensive Immigration Reform:
1. Fortify the Border. Not a fence, not a river, a wall. Hire some unemployed East Germans if we need help. You get the idea.
2. Armored Guard Towers. Closer together in urban areas, farther apart in rural areas. Remote operated robotic snipers. If a hunter in California can hunt with a mouse in Texas, we have the technology. Shoot anybody violating our border. Fire a warning shot if you feel merciful. Survivors are painted orange and deported. (Just seeing if you're paying attention.)
3. Put Texas in Charge. Cede a 100 yard strip along the entire border from Texas all the way to California then...
4. Death Penalty for Human Smugglers, Texas-style. Include hardcore prison party boy recreation time for anybody who hires illegals... from the supervisor all the way up to the CEO.
5. Reform Legal Immigration. Make it easier for productive, educated, desirable foreign nationals and entrepreneurs to immigrate when conditions allow. Let's face it, not all immigration is equal. A highly educated engineer from India is a much better immigrant than a peasant from Central America who's biggest skill is installing drywall.
6. Only children born to US Citizens or Legal Resident Aliens are automatic US Citizens, but... don't be a dick to kids who were dragged here by their illegal alien parents when they were too young to do anything about it. Taking some kid who was born in Mexico, brought to the US as a child, grown up here, been educated here, etc. has little in common with Mexico. It would be cruel to deport the kid. Instead, let them serve in the Military for four years to get their green card. If they're unfit for Military service, come up with some other national service work... pick up litter at Yellowstone for 4 years or something. No special perks, no scholarships. Drop out of the program and you're on a bus south. Basically they just get a chance to earn citizenship to mitigate the unfair choice their parents made. Yeah, we might need to amend the Constitution to shut up the ACLU. Fine. I'm good with that.
7. Have ICE and buses standing by at illegal alien rallies. Cordon off the area, detain everybody. If you're legal, go home. If you're not, you're on a bus south. How dare you "protest" when you are breaking the law? That's no more a legitimate function of the 1st Amendment than a prison riot.
8. If you're already here illegally as an adult and not a criminal, you can pay back every dime of taxpayer assistance provided (Emergency Rooms, Schools, Streets, any welfare at any level), PLUS all back taxes, with associated penalties like any other tax payer, then you can go into the 4 years of national service program mentioned above. If you don't like the terms, we'd be happy to transport you south.
ThatÂ’s a start, anywayÂ…

Illegals have destroyed Dallas, well, the guilt ridden white liberals who took pver the city did their part too, that place is a hellhole if you don't live in the rich north section and even there the thirld world that the rest of Dallas has become is creeping up on it.
As bad as south Dallas can be, it's nothing compared to the majority of the LA Basin. Even in the affluent communities of SoCal, there's trash everywhere and gangs fight each other with knives and baseball bats in the middle of the tourist areas at mid-day.
