18 My mom doesn't use the internet so she gets her news from TV and the local McCatchy? rag. She asked me yesterday why Perry was imploding his campaign.

So I explained to her that the MBM is throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Perry in order to bring him down. I debunked a few of the things she brought up, and frankly told her not to believe 1% of the shit they are slinging.

She listens to me, fortunately.

Oh, the SCOAMF needed two teleprompters to read a 3 minute speech. What a genius.

24 Obviously Perry is Obama's intellectual inferior!  After all, Perry wasn't smart enough to game the system and get admitted to Harvard where only the smartest, bestest, and brightest go to learn how to rule the masses.  Perry can't even read from dueling teleprompters and has to speak extemporaneously.  Perry wasn't clever enough become a community organizer and actually went and served his country (a situation that could have left him stuck in Irak).

 What a loser!

Fore more years for the SCFOAMF is the only conclusion one can draw from this!

Posted by: Hrothgar at August 30, 2011 09:32 AM (i3+c5)

25 Excerpt from OC Register article:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry committed Monday to holding what they’re calling an “old-fashioned meet-and-greet” rally for the Republican faithful at Roger’s Gardens in Newport Beach next week, which is significant for several reasons. He becomes the first challenger for the GOP nomination to hold a large public event in Orange County; it will signal to Republicans in O.C. how some of their party leaders are leaning (that is, away from Mitt Romney); and it signals to the rest of the state’s Republicans which way the wind is blowing in the most important conservative county in the U.S.

Tickets for the rally, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8, are free but limited because of the size of the venue (contact ocgop.org for info), so it might be more appropriate to call it a semipublic rally. Nonetheless, it will be sufficient in size, 400-500 souls, that its political purposes will be served.

97 I've decided there are only two types of people in the world: Those who talk about doing shit, and those who do shit.  Planes are designed, built and flown by the latter, teleprompters the former.

Seriously, look around your workplace. You can easily categorize people into "talkers" and "doers."  That's not to denigrate communication skills.  On many occasions the doers of shit need to discuss, plan and coordinate the shit they're going to do next.  All the while the talkers of shit stand around and talk about why the doers can't do or shouldn't be allowed to do.

See Robert Spencer's lengthy and detailed clarification of the issue.

On the Aga Khan, this interview along with appropriate commentary provided by an AOSH commenter in the recent thread on this issue.

Surely, Governor Perry, who can operate the console of a complex jet and can otherwise capably govern a large state, is at least as capable as some anonymous commenter on the Internet is of finding out that the Aga Khan is not someone to gush over as the best thing since sliced cheese and to form an official alliance with him at the taxpayers' expense -- but is actually an unremarkably (and unsurprisingly) suspect Muslim.

Even if Perry is better than Obama for 2012 (which isn't saying much -- even Pauley Shore would be better), that doesn't mean the People he works for shouldn't expect him to be smarter about one of the most important geopolitical and (increasingly) domestic issues of the day.

I attribute this to Perry's uncanny ability to say out loud what many are thinking but have no forum to say.  In so doing, Perry empowers them.  Obama had this same ability but unfortunately, Obama had no experience to back to words up.

If Perry does well in the first debates and the first network interviews (where he is sure to be savaged with gotcha questions), he will run away with this thing.

167 Here's a good Perry airplane story: "His friend Don Comedy, married to a girl from Mr Perry’s high school class, was his campaign manager. The district was so big that the pair used Mr Perry’s 1952 Piper Super Cub plane, decorating its cloth-covered fuselage with campaign stickers. The population was so sparse that when they spotted a farmer on a tractor in his fields they would swoop down to land so they could canvas him. “Once we had to land in a pasture due to fog,” he recalls. “A rancher came by in his pickup. We were both wearing coats and ties. Rick says 'Howdy’ and reaches into his jacket for a leaflet. I hear this lever action of a rifle – a very distinctive sound. “This guy thinks we were drug dealers. Rick is looking down a rifle but he keeps talking.” By the time the conversation had finished, the rancher had written a cheque for the Perry campaign. “I decided right then,” says Mr Comedy, “that anyone who can go in a matter of minutes from the first impression of being a drug dealer to getting a campaign contribution would go far.” It was the first of nine Texas elections that Mr Perry would win."

I never had links from my website to my posting ID at Jihad Watch.   When I was posting on Jihad Watch (before they banned me back nearly a year ago -- and that was at least third time over the years I was banned from commenting there), my nickname (the same one I have now) linked to my blog (The Hesperado).

"Next you will hear that he claims to have been banned from Jihad Watch."

cf. supra

"Nice screed over there Hesperado. Your fantasy of a Aryan world and the genocide against those "icky brown people" you and Pam G despise isn't really welcome here."

This claim cannot be proven.  I have never advocated genocide.  It's a flat-out lie.

This is the kind of response one would expect at the Daily Kos, or Jon Stewart's site, or the politics forum at craigslist -- where hostile irrational Leftists abound like shark-infested waters.

Posted by: Hesperado at August 30, 2011 12:26 PM (uMArt)

169 Also, pace Dick Nixon's flagrant errors, I did not remove the Jihad Watch link from my blog; and never have -- as can be easily verified by going to my blog and moving one's eyes ever so incrementally over to the right, where my blogroll stands fully visible.

Though I have been critical of various aspects of Spencer's methodology over the years, and have articulated my criticisms at great length, I continue to consider his "day job" (i.e., the Jihad Watch blog itself) to be of great value to the A.I.M. (which stands for the Anti-Islam Movement -- you know, that movement apparently of little concern to those who peck industriously here at this staunchly "conservative" site).

Posted by: Hesperado at August 30, 2011 12:42 PM (uMArt)

170 A commenter above (@ 153) refers to Spencer and Geller as "Romney supporters".

Is that why Spencer back in 2009 published this article taking Romney to task for making the erroneous distinction between "jihadism" and "Islam"?

Introducing that article, Spencer writes of Romney's

"...failure to understand the depth of the jihadist threat: For Mitt Romney, "jihadism" is apparently nothing but his label for what he considers a heretical, militant branch of the Religion of Peace. Indeed, the quotation below indicates Romney himself is firmly within the bounds of Beltway orthodoxy with respect to the nature of Islamic teachings."

Posted by: Dick Nixon at August 30, 2011 01:25 PM (kaOJx)

176 Tim @ 176:

The first three times, he banned me because he felt I was being a nuisance, not for any ideological reason related to the problem of Islam; and at some mid-point, I had begun publishing my blog critical of his methodology, and he made a few prickly allusions to it (which may also have motivated him to ban me).

The fourth time it was a combination of the above plus what I argue (in the linked article in my last comment above about this) was a pretext about some ideological principle in order to justify the former.  For all that, there was also a factor (one among many, cf. supra) consonant with the gist of your simplex blurt -- even if that factor, as articulated by Spencer's editor, Marisol, was based upon a misapprehension of my meaning and intent.

You can "wonder" all you want.  Or you can actually read what I have said and try to find such a thing, and then prove it, instead of insinuating.

As with Hugh Fitzgerald, I don't believe in a "solution" to the problem of Islam.  At best, it can be managed; and one hopes (as one always does about any problem) that we get leaders (and civilians) who will help to manage it appropriately, rather than ineptly.

180 Dick Nixon wrote:

At the beginning of the Jihad Watch comments box, there is a statement of guidelines including "...comments that are off topic, offensive, slanderous, or otherwise annoying stand a chance of being deleted."  Though it doesn't mention banning, one supposes reasonably that he would ban someone if he felt they were that annoying to warrant it.  (Whether his feeling in that regard is reasonable itself would be another matter.)  Plus, plenty of other blog owners exercise their discretion to ban or censor stuff.

So, along with you and November1918, Spencer is a pathetic scrunt.

I wouldn't descend that far; but I do feel Spencer seems to have a prickly ego and he sometimes behaves irrationally when in a debate with those who criticize him.  But again, no one (other than Perry) is perfect.

184 *click click* That's the sound of the Republcan party putting a gun to their head and cocking it. Obama is vulnerable as hell, but it appears the Republicans are going to nominate another douchebag Texas Governor with questionable personal skills and a penchant for sticking his boot in his mouth. Here in Colorado, there's a saying about people like Perry, who play the cowboy but speak only in vague platitudes: all hat, no cattle. I almost want to drop my independent status so I can vote against this asshat in the primary.

186 "by any means necessary?" is a deceptively simple-minded rhetorical ejaculation.

First of all, when solving any problem, if it can be either solved or managed short of a solution, the means for solving or managing it will be, by simple logic, "necessary".  For, what would an "unnecessary" way of solving or managing a problem be, exactly, one wonders...?

Secondly, what Dick Nixon is groping for here is the question of ethical choice.

Now, either

1) we could solve or manage the problem of Islam by multiple means, all of which would work, but one of which would be ethically unacceptable while the others would be ethically acceptable

or

2) we cannot solve or manage the problem of Islam except by one means -- and that means is ethically unacceptable and therefore unthinkable

or

3) there is no problem of Islam that needs to be solved or managed, since Islam is made of sugar and spice & everything nice through and through.

If it's #1, well I would obviously support the means that would be both effective and ethical.

If #2 is being claimed, I disagree.  I think we can manage the problem of Islam by means other than genocide.  However, there are many who have a very high threshold for what constitutes ethically acceptable.  I advocate mass deportation of Muslims from the West, and the forced quarantine of Muslims within their ancestral lands known in Islamic terms by the Dar-al-Islam: a vast stretch of land of millions of square miles from Indonesia to Morocco (though with a couple of exceptions I mention in my blog essay on this).

187 *shrug* I think he's unelectable. Any one of ten moderate Republicans could breeze into the White House simply by running on the economy. Unfortunately, your party seems poised to pick a social conservative ideologue with a strong resemblance to the worst president in history. The rest of the country remembers Bush, even if you don't.

Bush too, as Perry seems to be, was a dunderhead about the problem of Islam (though with probably the influence of Dick Cheney, he did a few things that helped in this regard).  Spending billions of dollars, and the lives of our men, on grandiose Wilsonian projects to rebuild Muslims in their abysmally and incurably regressive hellholes (Iraq and Afghanistan), was not one of them.

Man, I just don't see it. Perry isn't even black, or am I missing something?

192 "The rest of the country remembers Bush, even if you don't."

5% unemployment and $400 billion deficits. Yep, we remember him. And how people like you savaged him every step of his Presidency.

193 " and the forced quarantine of Muslims"

Wow, usually the fascists try to hide this idea.

194 @196: -1.75m private sector jobs. +1.775m public sector jobs. Two recessions and bodies piled to the rooftops. He doubled the national debt. But hey, let Perry campaign on that record. You Bush-defending Republicans have lost the faith. He was a disaster. The sooner the party comes to it's senses the better. I have great hope for 2016.

195 Jordan, the economy was doing fine until January 2007. Thats when people like you took control of Congress. As far as the myth of two recessions, Bush inherited a economy going in the shitter from Clinton and had it stabilizing til 9-11. Then, he produced a pretty solid economy until the left took Congress.

Thanks for playing Obot. Go fellate your Hope and Change.
