— Ace Yesterday Allah caught someone calling himself "Paul Krugman" saying that if the DC earthquake had been bigger, it might have been good for the economy, as it would have resulted in money being spent to rebuild what had been lost.
Allah expressed some skepticism that this was actually Krugman.
But he also noted, if it wasn't Krugman, it would be hard for Krugman to explain what is wrong with the statement, as Krugman is actually an enthusiastic believer in the Broken Windows fallacy (that vandals who break windows actually improve the economy, by keeping glass-makers busy with replacement), and even thought 9/11 could be just what the economic doctor ordered:
It seems almost in bad taste to talk about dollars and cents after an act of mass murder. Nonetheless, we must ask about the economic aftershocks from Tuesday's horror. These aftershocks need not be major. Ghastly as it may seem to say this, the terror attack -- like the original day of infamy, which brought an end to the Great Depression -- could even do some economic good.
Well, it turns out, the new posting about the earthquake was in fact a hoax; the hoaxster admits it. But he also notes that what he said as "Paul Krugman" is quite consistent with what the real Paul Krugman really says, like claiming the Japan Nuke disaster could be "expansionary."

" -- like the original day of infamy, which brought an end to the Great Depression -- "
So Krugman admitted that theFDR was a pathetic failure, and all the Keynsian stimulus, that the New Deal, the makework, the wealth transfers, the government fiats didn't end the Great Depression?

Nah. He'll tell you FDR didn't think big enough, which is why only vastly-increased control of the economy by government in WW2 "did the trick" ... while ignoring the whole actual war thing.

You know, I feel bad for The Onion. It's become almost impossible to parody anything in the news because no matter how outlandish, someone will actually say/write/tweet something more idiotic.
The article about the press trying to find some slant on Obama going on a murderous rampage remains one of my all time favorites though.

So a Nobel Prize in economics is worth about the same as a Nobel Peace Prize. And like the Peace Prize, it can be awarded for things you haven't even done yet -- in Krugman's case, well in advance of having the slightest idea what he's talking about.

More importantly if you get a Nobel Peace Prize you're in a very exclusive club that includes Adolph Hitler, Yassir Arafat, Jimmeh Cahter, Al Gore and SCOAMF.....
Yes, I'd cash the check and send the medal back too.......

Completely off-topic, but this comment made me think of this.
You know all the movies that have some science-experiment gone wrong? And how in almost all of those you're supposed to think it's the military's fault because they demand to see results, or they'll "shut down funding" but the whatever-it-is isn't ready yet, so the maker uses it on himself? (Hollowman and Spider-Man's Goblin are two good examples). Why does no one say, "no, the fault is that of the creepy guy who was so sure his product 'worked' that he could be bothered to explain, logically, why he needed more trials, and why the military should be happy with the results they'd had so far?"
So, Hollowman, for instance: 6 Degrees himself decides to inject himself with the invisibility juice before it's been fully tested and goes insane. Why isn't that his fault?

From the Daily Mail story:
The magazine also reported that Mrs Obama, whose fashion choices are widely followed, had been going on 'wild shopping sprees', much to the distress of her husband, who, its sources reveal, is 'absolutely furious' at his wife's 'out-of-control spending'.
