All of these government subsidized businesses have always been the same. They are never capable of making it on their own. If they were, someone would have already started the buisness and would be making money.
These so-called businesses are in buisness for one thing only, getting government money. And the ones who are "cronies" are the ones who get the money until dries up. What is unusual about Solyndra is that their buisness model was so bad it went bankrupt even before the government money dried.

I had the honor of sitting across the Christmas dinner table from: "I don't think people should cut down trees for Christmas." and "I don't think people should lie to their kids about Santa Clause."
I open the news this morning with a story about 6 family members shot dead on Christmas in Texas.
I nod my head, knowingly.

Interesting to me that even if all Solyndra business had been conducted completely in the open and was totally compliant with existing federal, state, and corporate law, it still stinks to high heaven that there is such an ability to suckle at the government teat in support of such a questionable technology. It the concept/product were truly viable, it would already be in production and cleaning the clocks of its competitors.
Then I think, Gingrich's dealings with F&F were in the open and consistent with existing laws and federal regulations. So if it stinks for Solyndra, then it stinks for Newt.

The issue is the relentless push to redefine 'normal' in our culture. Ask them to look at any number of dire mistakes we've come to accept as 'normal' because they were forced on our forebears and few of their children questioned it growing up.
This isn't to say our world should remain a static, cast in stone, monoculture. But it says a lot when the people who claim the title 'progressive' are plainly communists who dropped the label in favor of a vague euphemism. Freedom is a rarity in human history but highly desired and the spread of it makes Reagan easily the most progressive President in my lifetime, if words were not twisted to mean new things as it serves the agenda.
Ending the Cold War in our favor. Progress.
Expanding corrosive welfare state influence. Not progress.

Of course not, but Qaddafi held power for years, and we never did anything about them. What is the impetus for this call for repatriation? The change in government? Are they expected to be more anti-American? I find that hard to believe. Maybe even crazier, but Qaddafi was not a huge fan of America.

What was it that Don Shula said about there being a lot of luck involved in football "If you don't have a good quarterback, that is bad luck."
The country has a crappy quarterback who keeps handing off to the dirt and tossing easy passes right to wide open defensive backs. That is the definition of "bad luck".
The Obama presidency is the equivalent of taking the whinny kid from a Jr. high band and starting him at quarterback in the super bowl just because he could sight read sheet music. Who could have predicted that wouldn't work out well?

Heh. Go read the Ayatollah's Wiki entry, especially the sections "Life Under .." , "Emigration and Economy," and "Suppression of enemies and opposition."
Here's a taste. The Shah and his family left Iran and escaped harm, but hundreds of former members of the overthrown monarchy and military met their end in firing squads, with critics complaining of "secrecy, vagueness of the charges, the absence of defense lawyers or juries", or the opportunity of the accused "to defend themselves." In later years these were followed in larger numbers by the erstwhile revolutionary allies of Khomeini's movement—Marxists and socialists, mostly university students—who opposed the theocratic regime.
SCOAMF synchophants and OWS types most confused.

I have no beef with the Times' Man of the Year. Their criteria (then) was the person who most influenced world events. Good or Bad. But I gave up on Time when the Person of the Century came up. How Hitler didn't rate #1 just seemed to me cowardly. His awful legacy lived waay beyond WWII. At least until the fall of Communism in East Europe at the end of the '80's, or as some will say, the current anti-Semitism of many Arab countries that were under Nazi control in the '40's.

The Obama administration won't be bound by a gun control ban in the $1 trillion spending bill for 2012, the president said Friday.
The funding provision for the federal health agency says that "none of the funds made available in this title may be used, in whole or in part, to advocate or promote gun control." The language aims to ban taxpayer dollars from supporting gun safety research.
"I have advised the Congress that I will not construe these provisions as preventing me from fulfilling my constitutional responsibility to recommend to the Congress's consideration such measures as I shall judge necessary and expedient," Obama said in a statement as he signed the bill into law.
The president's signing statement also says he could end up ignoring a provision that bars taxpayer funds for paying for the "salaries and expenses" of so-called White House czars, including the director of the White House Office of Health Reform. The office was abolished earlier this year.
That provision "could prevent me from fulfilling my constitutional responsibilities, by denying me the assistance of senior advisers and by obstructing my supervision of executive branch officials in the execution of their statutory responsibilities," Obama said. "I have informed the Congress that I will interpret these provisions consistent with my constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed."

I had a run-in with a similar hellion. Ordinarily, I would be majorly pissed. The last time it happened I tried something different, I gave the kid the attention he was craving. I grabbed him and hugged him and tickled him. Of course, that made him annoy me more so that he would get more hugs and tickles but, after a while, he would listen to me better than anyone else. From there on, I was the last person he wanted to disappoint.

It's more a case where this kid's parents don't know/care how to be parents. The father of Spawn-of-Satantm frequently went outside to sit in his car and smoke while his mother told the little shit that if he didn't behave, his uncle (me!) was going to spank him. It was a fucking nightmare.

I want to share with you these rules from the Sons of Liberty, a militia in northern Alabama:
1. You can't kill a Hydra by cutting off its head. Militia groups seem to find one another sooner or later.
2. Small things are harder to find. Keep the group size down. If you've got more than 10-12, spin off another group & keep it compartmental.
3. Keep quiet & you're harder to find. Beware of loose cannons & braggarts. Likewise beware of wives & sweethearts. "Hell hath no fury."
4. Keep it legal. You may be offered a great deal on a load of M-16s. DON'T! Entrapment is the way of all feds.
5. Don't keep all your eggs in one basket. If you have more than one rifle, store it in a hideaway spot. Remember to store ammo & web gear with it, enough ammo for at least one combat load.
6. Hide your best eggs from prying eyes. Destroy any documents or discs that become unnecessary. Leave no clues.
7. Bojangles Robinson ain't the only one who can tap. Avoid the phone as much as possible & never speak in plain English about the club.
8. A rose by any other name smells just as sweet. Most groups meet under cover of another activity: gun club, Bible study, even bowling.
9. Remember you're not alone. There are an estimated 1,500 militia groups scattered across the 48 states and Alaska.
10. Remember your principles. Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have war, let it begin here.

Bullshit. Moe Lane has not lost his mind.
The stinky doo doo smell coming out of this Virginia ballot-gate is getting stronger, as details come out.
Romney's campaign chairman for VA is the one in charge of determining who gets on the ballot.....Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling. ....Bolling should have recused himself from this. This is a huge conflict of interest.
The rules were also changed....last month. .....This is apparently the first time that the signatures have been subjected to this new scrutiny.
Romney turned in over 15,000 signatures.....so he gets a pass on this new scrutiny. .....Ron Paul also gets a pass, even though he didn't turn in over 15, 000.
So anyone who turns in over 15,000 sigs....whether they are bogus or not....gets a pass from the line-by-line scrutiny?
Like I said.....the smell coming off this is strong, and getting stronger.

Yeh, probably the best thing that can happen for a kid like that is for relatives to spend lots of time with him AWAY from his parents. Even if they don't change, he will learn that things are better when he and the adults are behaving, IYKWIM. And there's always a faint chance that the parents will notice how much better he behaves around other people.

Too many nice decent honest Republicans are like a Faberge Egg in a wood chipper when dealing with the Democrats. I've seen your posts from time to time and appreciate
your honesty and congeniality. Question: since you support Obama and
plan to support him in the future can you tell me if you support
ObamaCare. If so, please tell me how that squares with being a
"Liberal" at all.
To my understanding a Liberal believes in maximum
individual liberty/minimal coercion. Mandating that I now must purchase a product to
be a citizen in good standing is antithetical to the concept of
individual liberty. I also can't find these powers granted to the federal government in the constitution.
The same goes for the left's tax-and-spend fiscal
policies that are enslaving our kids and grandkids. How would you rate
Obama's handling of the economy this past 3 years?
And finally, as someone who obviously stays abreast of
current events how do you feel about things like Fast and Furious,
failed solar companies, and military action in Libya and Uganda, and this administration's chilly relationship with Israel? Sorry if that's too many questions. "Liberals" intrigue me.
I had this conversation with my gay cousin over the
weekend. She's a social / wedge issues voter, nothing more. It's
frustrating.

202 Via Redstate, Perry and Newt would have qualified for the VA primary ballot under the rules as they stood THIS NOVEMBER.
Yeah, boone. .....It's looking like Romney operatives changed the rules last month, to benefit Romney.
If this is allowed to stand, then the stench is all over Romney.
This could explain why Romney has had such an insufferable attitude. ....He and his operatives have been acting like it is 'inevitable' that he will be the nominee.......and that we should just 'lie back and not resist' having him forced upon us.
The fatal flaw in this thinking is that they are ignoring how much people will be turned off by having him forced on us. ....Even though the 'ABO' feelings are strong....it won't be enough for Romney to overcome the outrage.

1. As you yourself describe it, abortion is a choice between the death of an infant, premature as it may be, for the convenience of the mother.
2. We've hear that argument before, usually from someone who takes every deduction, exemption, and credit they're entitled to.
3. Do you grasp the importance of not having to fight a war on our own soil?.. Even after the horror of 9/11? The idea of waiting for an attack is utterly insane. I do not want to see my fellow countrymen and women lying in pools of blood.

There is a fundamental ignorance in their belief that the collective can have any freedom. It is the individual, and only the individual, that is free. The collective is antithetical to freedom, but it is alluring for many.
And this is exactly why I look at my small (and dwindling) number of liberal friends and think, "Wow, you are just really fucking clueless and stupid!"

He loved his Phil Esposito framed jersey and even seems to be looking forward to going to the IHL game next Saturday. (Or he hid it well.)
Wonderful gifts from him as well, but one of my favorites is a high altitude baked goods cookbook.
Take care and enjoy the day! If you feel like being mildly irritated (and are a Perry or Gingrich supporter) go over to RedState and read Moe Lane's article explaining how VA GOP did change the rules last month.

No..no they're not. He's the fucking anti christ. He is a suicide bomber on his run to destroy the country, because nobody in their right mind with an inkling of how to build a strong prosperous nation would do the things he is doing. There isn't a god damn benevolent thing inside him.

Concur. Obama is the Nightrider. He ain't here to help old ladies cross the street:
"You should see the damage, bronze. Huh? metal damage, brain damage. Heheheh. You listen bronze. I am the Nightrider. I'm a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller! I'm the Nightrider, baby, and we ain't never coming back! The Soros Toecutter - he knows who I am. I am the Nightrider! I am the chosen one. The mighty hand of vengeance, sent down to strike the unroadworthy! I'm hotter than a rollin' dice. Step right up, chum, and watch the kid lay down the rubber road, ride to freedom!"

Wild boar stew?
That's just cruel. One of my all-time great taste sensations was a ham made from a sow that a friend shot on his ranch. That was followed closely by the bacon he had made from it.

Yes, for guys on your side of the aisle, trying to come up with an accurate assessment of costs based on the market is completely radical. In fact, I'd say that you've embarked on a dangerously conservative line of thinking that will eventually have you reading (and appreciating) Hayek and Friedman.
Just keep at it. You'll be over here with us on the Dark Side before you know it. And more thing: we have cookies.

Yep, it was wild boar agro dulce. The version I made had apricots and currants in it. The boar was from Fossil Farms (an online supplier of game meats).
I hadn't made wild boar before. It was a darker meat than I'd expected. Almost more like beef than pork, imho.
I think I'll braise the rest of the roast in port. Seems to like the sweeter flavors.

And the jerkoffs who stock the supermarket bread shelves.
Why do they always buy the same amount of the types of bread that nobody likes and everybody likes?
Every week they run out of the good/popular bread and all that's left is a bunch of loaves of stupid bread. I know they end up throwing it all out. So why do they keep stocking it?

What other basis do you have? There is no articulated philosophy, just a lot of happy horseshit slogans and emotional button pushes.
You want to move towards a genuine open market for medical services but like Obamacare, which does everything possible to further obfuscate and distance health care from free market principles? And is by Obama's own admission a trojan for complete nationalization?
I don't know about where you're from but where I come from a 26-year old is far into adulthood. The idea that the average able bodied 26 year old should be a dependent upon his parents is absurd. A formula for an infantilized society. If you want a legal provision for dependency by young adults with serious medical conditions, it needs to be specified as such. Without a situation meriting special mitigation it's just a really, really bad policy.
Ask yourself, why did this need to be such a doorstop mound of paper. Why not several dozen separate bills that could be reasonably debated on an individual basis. Gosh, you don't suppose it's because they don't want anyone to be able to read it all and find all of the interesting little 'other' items buried in there?
I regard any doorstop legislation as suspect, no matter who proposes it. I would arbitrarily reject any proposal that cannot be laid out in in fewer than a hundred pages, not counting listings of pure data that wouldn't introduce any surprises.

Could be worse. My mom lives in the boonies and lack of competition makes the local store try to get away with interesting tactics. They keep things like bread on their shelves even when it's starting to go bad.
They might have the fresh stuff in the back, but they won't put it out until they've gotten rid of the old stuff.
And by the time they put out the "new" stuff, it's only got a couple days left til it goes bad...

14 year olds should be able to get an abortion whenever they please without parental permission. After all, their dad might 'kill' them.
18 year olds should have the right to vote, since they 'might' be drafted and they ought to have a say in that.
25 years old? Poor little baby, how can he possibly get a job and pay for his own health insurance? I mean, he graduated HIGH SCHOOL seven years earlier, if he went to college he should have graduated that THREE years ago, hell there's a decent possibility that he is out of grad school. But poor wee tot can't be expected to pay his own way vis a vis health care.
Fuckit, if the bastard can't manage that he clearly can't manage the franchise. Voting and drinking ages ought to be raised to 26. Driving? Nope, not till you're 21. If we're gonna infantilize, let's go all the fucking way.
As far as I can tell, liberal/progressive policy seems to lead to turning everyone, from age 6 to death, into perpetual teenagers. Eternal partying, never a trace of responsibility, all under the benevolent gaze of Big Daddy Gubmint.

Callous, yes, but that means they might actually be able to go head-to-head against Obama's electoral fraud machine with a chance of at least holding their own. Too many nice decent honest Republicans are like a Faberge Egg in a wood chipper when dealing with the Democrats. (I don't understand why, exactly: the Dems have used the same playbook since the Andrew Jackson administration.)
Posted by: Trimegistus at December 26, 2011 12:03 PM (rCEvh)
Not really. Cheating against the stupid party is one thing, but you'll never be able to out-cheat the evil party. Worse, you're conceding the battlefield to them by joining them on it.
Even worse: It shows a guy who utterly despises the 11th Commandment of Reagan and is willing to deploy any and all tactics to take down fellow Republicans. In short: More proof that Romney could not give a shit less about the GOP.

Well congratulations, you've just taken over enough of the private sector that you won't be generating enough taxable income to fund our government, even before this massive expansion.
Gee, If you really think health care is a human right, that sounds like something we should have a Constitutional amendment about. Otherwise, none of this is legal. Unfortunately, Democrats don't believe in laws.
Kid, you're not liberal. I highly doubt your youth looked anything like mine did. You people are obviously something else entirely if you suddenly think "The Man" is your best friend.

Re A Liberal AoSHQ Reader, Really!
I have a liberal friend who is committed to fiscal conservativism in his personal finances, (unnecessarily) encourages me to vote for fiscally conservative candidates in local elections, yet votes Democrat (here in California, no less!) in statewide and Federal elections. (He's also indicated he's thinking about joining us in fleeing CA for AZ, to escape the former's financial and regulatory Armageddon brought on by 30 years of liberal policies. Go figure.)
This makes my head hurt. I truly cannot understand the dissonance between his views on things he can see and influence directly (personal and city finances) and those he cannot (state and Federal finances). I have hopes of getting him to see the contradiction, and ultimately to come over to the dark side.
Last, I really appreciate A Liberal AoSHQ Reader, Really!'s open-mindedness and courtesy in expressing his views. Usually we conservatives get compared unfavorably with Judas Iscariot, so it's refreshing to encounter someone from the other side of the aisle who doesn't think we want to BBQ babies and push granny off a cliff simply because we point out that we can't afford everything we might like to do.
