The Curious Case Of Hayley Williams
— Ace

WeinerGate has hit, and I do use this term advisedly, the decadent phase, where people are just trying to outclever each other with outre and novel theories of the case. Even among conservatives, or those who initially doubted Rep. Weiner's bizarre story like Lee Stranahan, we're now seeing baroque theories about jilted ex-girlfriends seeking revenge.

And that possibility was floated by a conservative blogger I like (not Breitbart of Stranahan, Mickey Kaus), as possibility #2 in a list of 3.

The list is that long?

Let me suggest the obvious answer is in fact the answer.

There is no need to get clever here. There is no grand mystery. This is not like Watergate -- scratch that, it sort of is like Watergate. What you think happened here is pretty much what happened here.

A married man, formerly a player (yeah I don't get that either), looking for a little 11:30 am virtual strange while the missus was away, sent a picture of his package, which he's extremely proud of, to a coed. Don't ask me why he's so proud of that. But I just heard him on Maddow getting off on the fact that Jon Stewart talked up his junk on national television.

The guy almost wants us to know it's his penis. That's how proud he is of it.

Anyway, the coed is cute. Has flattered this man, who is a narcissist, by calling him "my boyfriend" and saying she has a "crush" and also that he is, to her, physically attractive.

Yeah I don't get that one, either. But if you look at this cat, you can tell he's not really accustomed to hearing that, so it still strikes a pleasing note inside him.

Do I need to go on any further? This is not complicated.

Weiner asserts that people hack the Twitter accounts of Congressmen in order to send partially-real partially-enhanced pictures of penises "hundreds of thousands of times every day."

Well, no, that doesn't happen hundreds of thousands of times a day. That happens... once, as it turns out.

And, actually, not even that many times.

But what does happen an awful lot is that people get caught up in a sudden attraction and do something dumb.

And yet, despite all this, even conservatives, determined to crack a mystery which was solved within ten minutes of the perpetration of the crime, are on the hunt for hackers, ex-girlfriends, horny staffers and who knows what else.

We are all agreed that someone had an interest in sending a picture of Rep. Weiner's erection to a coed. Even Rep. Weiner agrees on this much -- he's basically told us yeah, that's my junk. And he's proud of that.

So we know someone wanted to send the dicpic to the coed.

Would I sound very boring if I were to suggest that the person with the means, opportunity, and motive to send Rep. Weiner's dicpic to the coed was none other than Rep. Weiner himself?

Oh, I concede that is unimaginative. Lacks punch. A trifling mystery, the one where the murderer is evident from page 10, and the rest is all procedure and filler; but I think that is where the evidence is taking us.

Is taking us? Has taken us. Took us. Is there a more past tense than the past perfect tense? Has hadn taken-tooken us 96 hours ago.

For those who find this a tad too boring, with not enough thrills and chills or surprise twists and unexpected 11th hour entry by exciting new suspects, let me bore you some more and note this isn't even the first time this mystery has ended this way.

One Hayley Williams. Female, caucasian, about 25. Singer for a band called Paramore. Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. You know the story. You hear it every day.

The victim of a horrible content warning hacking on Twitter, in which a nefarious hacker hacked into her account, and, via hacking, sent a picture of her exposed breasts to the public.

Hayley Williams of Paramore claims her Twitter site was hacked and the nude twitpic that was posted has since gone viral.

Of course it was removed, but we have the censored version. Another version can be found here. Hayley did not comment on the embarrassing topless photo directly, and to be honest it seems more like a cruel joke than a hack.

Someone would have to have access to the topless photo of Hayley Williams AND be able to access her twitter account. That is a lot of info to have. For those who donÂ’t pay attention to detail, the photo is also being searched for as, Haley Williams twitter picture.

Can you help Hayley find her hacker? Can you solve this mystery?

Alas, no you cannot.

There is nothing to be solved. The hacker was already discovered.

The hacker, Content Warning For Full Upper Nudity, was Hayley herself, who screwed up in the exact manner that Anthony Weiner did, just a year later.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams attempted to DM this topless picture of herself to her boyfriend, but instead wound up posting it for all to see on the internet. She took it down almost immediately, but we all know “immediately” is about 3 minutes too late in internet time.

Yes, I know it's not as exciting as the Realization Montage in The Usual Suspects, but life usually isn't. That's why we pay clever people a great deal of money to make shit up for us to watch on a movie screen.

Now, if you want to explain to me that some jealous ex-boyfriend of Hayley Williams was "the real perp," or maybe it was a disgruntled staffer, or maybe even it was a conservative who hated her, fine.

But do all that first, explaining why the obvious is to be disregarded as a solution in The Curious Case of Hayley Williams first, before coming to me with some fresh new jazz about Anthony Weiner.

After all-- the Hayley Williams case is a year old. It's a cold case. She deserves our justice, after waiting for her hacker to be exposed for all this time.

Indeed:

This is the most fiendish set-up since Mary Jo Kopechne implicated Ted Kennedy in her suicide.

And As We're Talking About Dic-Fic: There's a simple way to tell if a subject is guilty.

Examine his demeanor. Listen to what he says when first confronted with the crime.

Does his reaction read genuine?

Or does his reaction read false?

8 Ace, did you get me email postulating that Weiner had a second, anonymous, twitter account? That would explain how the yfrog thing happened... He switched devices to take a camera shot because his laptop, whatever, didn't have a camera... But he goofed and hit send instead of transferring the dic pic to his laptop. It's not hard to believe he had the yfrog account set up for quick posts of picttures from his blackberry. I dunno... It just seems reckless that he would use his official account for these cyber-cheating sessions.

No need for second account. you don't even need a yfrog account as it's the default for twitpic. The person would have to have known Weiner's yrag email which is randomly generated and we don't even know if he had one because it isn't required to post pics to yfrog.

17 I must be a good judge of character or something because I always disliked him. He comes across as a know-it-all who is unjustifiably in love with himself. Awhile back, someone on this blog, probably Ace, said that he would be the next Alan Grayson. Because that's just what an obnoxious little creep he is. Every time he appears on a national tv show over this wienergate thing, he looks like a bigger asshole. I'm not a fan of Jon Stewart, but if I were Stewart, I wouldn't brag about the association.

I'm not sure why Strahan went off on this odd tangent.

This story seems to follow occam's razor.

A powerful arrogant man with a sense of invincibility sends a picture of his Hanes repressed hard on to a 21 year old girl he may or may not be having an affair with.

He made a typing error on twitter and sent it out publically, then tried to rescind it. He then told several stories, all of which were proven to be lies not only by evidence, but by the fact he moved onto another story/excuse.

And now he's at the point where he's saying, in so many words, that it is in fact his dick..

What more is there to be had? Why are we even debating the hacking issue. It's Wednesday, we got over than hump days ago. Why back track over something that's been disproven by weiner's statements?

Little story I posted on another thread about this business of overthinking the technical AND conspiratorial aspects of this story.

Friend of mine was once conned by one of America's top conmen -- a guy who's been on all the t.v. shows, notorious guy in law enforcement. Funny thing is, she had him credit-checked and even investigated by a very wily detective, and tested CLEAN.

But the thing is, I knew from the moment I met him that he was bad news. How? I took one look at him. Sleaze and lies dripping from every pore.

My friend had essentially picked a dead stinking rat out of the gutter and sent it off to the DNA lab to test whether it was a golden goose. Never mind the maggots, the rot, the stench, the slimy fur, the ringtail -- let's send it out for some high-tech investigation.

Sometimes a dead rat is just a dead rat.

(By the way, yes, my friend was a bit of a gold digger and wanted to believe this guy was her ticket to riches. It's that wanting to believe thing.)

It's a funny thing about men.  They assume that, because naughty nudity turns them on, that flashing their hideous genitalia is an equal turn-on to women.

Overall, I've not found women to be that way, but horny men aren't noted for their complex thinking ability.

This is why he doesn't want to admit anything. Its the only thing that explains why a man of his intelligence would willingly make such a PR hash of the tweet incident.

At this point, I'm not sure it matters that all the usual suspects in the media are making up convoluted stories to cover for him. We Americans loves us a juicy scandal. And Weiner's name just makes this one even better. I'm not sure we can count on him leaving office, because the democraps are perfectly okay with smutty, stupid behavior of this type. The idea that he is behaving with worse judgement than a 12 year old, doesn't bother them at all. But we get to watch him become a national laughingstock. Manhattan liberals won't care because they are sophisticated (meaning they have no standards of conduct), but regular Americans, including some who for dem, are going to view him as the creepy, little, prick that he is.

Ace, the legal standing issue hasn't even been discussed here.  There exists a question of fact in so much as the Twitter account in question was likely being supported by a server, phone lines and an electronic computing device i.e. a blackberry... items procured for official use with funds from the U.S. Treasury.

There is a legal nexus to the greater public here that would suggest legal standing to sue not in tort but rather to enjoin Congressman Weiner from missusing public property; property that is at Mr. Weiner's avail to assist him in his official duties as a federal employee.

If we gotz standing, we gotz subpoena.

108 Even among conservatives, or those who initially doubted Rep. Weiner's bizarre story like Lee Stranahan, we're now seeing baroque theories about jilted ex-girlfriends seeking revenge.

This is why I think it's likely that Obama will be re-elected. We live in a country in which someone as repulsive, corrupt, and obviously guilty as Weiner makes people scratch their beards and go, "Hmmm. Are we entirely sure that...?"

It's something akin to battered-wide syndrome, but applicable to the ruling class. These monstrosities spend their careers screwing us, generating massive personal wealth through insider trading, and partying, and then when they bring destruction down on their own heads, the idiot serfs reflexively give them the benefit of the doubt or even defend them.

Not enough people seem to be pointing out the hilarious contradiction between Weiner not pursuing justice and his crying over the innocent girls he followed on twitter being named in newspapers.

We get it, Anthony, it was just a silly prank because your name is a slang term for a penis. And as we all know, a prankster would obviously post a tame, clothed image, not a graphic nude shot of a hard, throbbing member.

But guess what? Innocent people who have done nothing wrong are being dragged into this. Where's your sense of justice on their behalf?

You aren't worried about it personally, OK, fine. But you're just going to sit there and let these poor girls -- these poor, hot, young, big-breasted girls -- be treated this way?

157 Ace refers to Weiner as "formerly, a player". But Weniner and Abedin have been married for not even one full year- since last July,11.

Since we can safely assume that Weiner's inappropriate relations with female twitters did not begin yesterday, that means that he never stopped the skirt chasing that he was know for. Which has me asking: Why, if he seems to enjoy that kind of freedom, did he marry Abedin in the first place?

Which brings us back to the rumours that were swirling since the announcement of their relationship. Was this a sham marriage, arranged merely for the purpose of quieting the rumours about the nature of Abedin's relationship with Hillary? If so, what happens now that Weiner's escapades are having the opposite effect than the marriage was supposed to, in that he's now going to bring more scrutiny on Huma and Hill?

Why no mention anywhere about the discussions in Patriots timeline regarding a forthcoming NY congressional sex scandal being tweeted and re-tweeted between patriot and those who were following him. He taunted both Rangel and Weiner, asking, "Is it you?" But, to hack the account? Am struggling with that concept a bit.

My opinion is that Patriot was just the messenger. BUT, there is something very big going on and the NY sex scandal and Anthony's pic may just be connected.

194 Kudos, Ace, on being ahead of the curve on this one. I very much underestimated the trajectory of the story.  Still, every "scandal" needs a careful factual vetting before it hits the presses.  The reputations of innocent people may be at stake.    When accuracy is sacrificed for the sake of a scoop, your credibility is damaged. You got most of it right this time.  The ending hasn't been written yet, although you've apparently closed you mind to any culprit but Representative Weiner. American journalism is at a crossroads.  An open-minded approach by bloggers could bring them mainstream respectability. Unfortunately, every recent post of yours seems headed to the same predetermined conclusion.

225 I don't want to push down this post, which I'm proud of and would like to leave up all night, but in fact Anthony Weiner is playing for a draw, and that's all he needs. The media is only covering this because of the embarrassment of not covering John Edwards. But they want him to survive, obviously. Best case scenario for the media? They cover it, they say "we can't go any further," he survives. That was the point of Wolf Blitzer's interview today -- to ask the 'tough questions" and let him escape. That's why he CONGRATULATED him at interview's end-- he was telling him he'd answered all questions to his satisfaction. Do you notice Weiner appears cockier than you'd be? That's because he knows the fix is in. He only needs to throw up a little doubt and the media will run with it.

Yes people are very naive.  And also incredibly ignorant about technology.  Even those that claim to be tech savvy, solely because they post online or use twitter.  I think a lot of those you start talking about IPs and whether they are static or dynamic and they'll get a glazed look across their eyes and go "Huh?"  They probably have no clue how incredibly simple it would be to determine whether the dicpic originated from a computer or smartphone used bye weiner.

Posted by: Fritz at June 01, 2011 08:38 PM (p2IBw)

259 Incidentally, for what it's worth anecdotal evidence tells me that Weiner has already done himself in.  I mean the question really isn't whether he'll resign or not -- he was NEVER going to resign, he's the Democratic representative from Brooklyn, for god's sake -- but whether he would be neutered as a spokesman for the Dems (and as a mayoral candidate) going forward.

And I think that damage is now done.  Weiner can "wait this out" or "play for the tie," as Ace puts it, but I haven't spoken to a SINGLE LIBERAL -- that is, out in the real world (where I know tons) or even on the internet (where I visit other forums populated by typical lefties) -- that thinks Weiner isn't transparently guilty.  The interviews he gave yesterday and today sealed it.  Now some of them say things like "oh big deal," but I'm not even hearing much of that.  Just a lot of embarrassment and face-pulling, and "gee Congressmen are scumbags, aren't they?"

Pretty much only the Kos Kiddies still believe that this is all a huge misunderstanding, and that Weiner is somehow innocent.  But then they were going to no matter what.  So I don't really see how the ball is going to be moved much forward from here (though I look forward to more awkward interviews), but I consider this a big "win" for us as it is, and much more than I expected at the outset: he's really torched himself something fierce, and even though this will eventually die down it's never going away for him.

The big wild card: Huma.  She hasn't said a word since the jump.  Now she's very media-shy as it is, so that isn't a huge shock, but I'm a bit surprised Weiner hasn't talked her into a "stand by your man" appearance yet.  If that doesn't happen, or if shit breaks bad (look for a whisper campaign!) it may get worse.  Other than that, I think we can be satisfied with what we've accomplished.

But then what do I know?  I've been playing the wet blanket about this affair from the get-go.  I just love being proven so wrong.  Never would've thought Weiner would self-destruct so spectacularly on that CNN interview or today.  His media rounds are NOT GOING OVER WELL in Washington today, despite what Ace says about softballs from Wolf Blitzer.  Special Report's panel savaged him today, Politico's all over his shit (you give Ben Smith crap, but he's reporting all sorts of great stuff, like how Pelosi's shop basically has hated him for years and now they're comparing his newsers on background to Charlie Sheen's meltdown), and even Salon's tossed him to the wolves.  Toasty.

Part true. Naive and stupid. And disingenuous. Hacks are clearly the latter. And politicians, especially a-holes like Weiner, conflate the topic to exploit the former. Bide for time, throw in wiggle words, selectively parse terminology and events, deflect, and accuse others. Pretty much boilerplate politics with the Bell Curve of Voter IQ's determining the outcome of events.

Your task was to move the curve Right. You succeeded. How far yet to be determined.

It was sent from his account to her - so the logical presumption ought to be that he was the sender until proven otherwise. And so far no one has been able to. And the one guy who could - Weiner - refuses to.

Laughing at the fact that he felt that it was okay to send a dick pic and 20 minutes on 'you can't be serious about going out with him again' which directly follows 'omg, you won't believe this..."

Any self respecting woman would receive something like that and either be pissed off/offended, or left incapacitated by peals of laughter, neither of which is the reaction that a guy is looking for.

You know Dave Chappelle's bit about his super-high white friend getting pulled over by the cops and scaring him by acting like it's no big deal? My partner-in-teenage-misdemeanors was like that, because he knew that saying his father's name had the power to make crimes disappear. A rearview full of blue and red lights made him smile. Weiner's got the same thing going.

I've always had to make do with sociopathic cool (which works, but not in the same way, and can backfire freakishly). I thought Weiner would resort to that, and use the lie that fits all known knowns here (while allowing all his fans and enemies to know he was lying and get off on or be shamed and infuriated by his getting off), but he knows he doesn't have to.

285 BTW this is what I posted in response to @Stranahan's implausible  theory:

There is nothing implausible about how Patriot saw it in the 1-5 seconds.
Timeline:

1. Patriot, obsessed for some reason, has 2 tabs open. One to his feed and one to WeinerÂ’s. But I think Patriot saw Weiner tweet in his own feed as he follows Weiner.

2. Twitter says “new tweet” and Patriot clinks on “new tweet” which shows Pic tweet to coed.

3. Patriot right clicks on link to Yfrog pic and selects “Open in new tab”

4. Patriot see pic in new tab.

5. Clicks on tab for Patriot feed & retweets WeinerÂ’s tweet.

6. Retweet updates page which shows Weiner tweet gone.

7. Total time so far? Under 5 seconds for someone who uses a computer regularly.

8. Patriot goes back to tab with pic and tries to save or download but canÂ’t since it has been deleted.

9. Grabs screen grab of window with Weiner pic in it.

Leaving a tab open for 3 hours to WeinerÂ’s feed is nothing for someone obsessed with him for some reason. I think even Patriot would admit he was obsessed about following Weiner.

The odd thing is that Patriot states twice what a coincidence it is Weiner is there to delete tweet in under 5 seconds. This would be no coincidence if Weiner had just sent it, seen it was public, and immediately deleted it.

I think there's a certain percentage of people who deliberately look for the convoluted and complex in things because that's how the world makes sense to them - simplicity is just unsatisfying. So the obvious explanation - meth found in the car of the thin, nervous guy with bad teeth actually belongs to him -  must in fact be a puzzle that they must unwrap, dig into  and solve.

306 >>>Weiner is turning the tables on you, Ace.  You and we laughed at him.  Now he's making a joke of it.

>>>This actually might work for him

No.  No it won't.  I don't think you realize how poorly his "joking" about this today was received by the DC press corps.  Awkward laughs?  Sure.  But the reaction was generally one of "gee, this is creepy." Normally they'd be all okey-dokey laugh-in with Weiner, but now?  Now they smell blood and they ARE journalists after all, with bullshit-detectors, and those are attuned to this sort of stuff pretty well.

Again: look at the coverage of this on every major news site (absent the NY Times, of course).  Politico?  Say what you will about them, all you need to do is look at their front-page coverage (as well as Ben Smith's blogging) and not even read between the lines very hard to know that they think he's a lying bastard.  Salon put him out to pasture by mid-afternoon.  Fox, after being initially ginger, is all-in on him (even Juan Williams was skewering him tonight).  CNN has done its damage already, Wolf Blitzer softballs or no.

I'll reemphasize: I don't see how the ball moves forward from here.  Weiner will stonewall, there won't be an official investigation that could prove the matter, and nobody will confess, so it's over except for the exceedingly awkward questioning (and even that will die away necessarily in a week or so).  But Weiner has permanently damaged himself here.  Except for the happy haunts of MSNBC, he's a back-bencher again while he remains in Congress, and is suddenly very vulnerable in a Dem primary for mayor.

Posted by: Jeff B. at June 01, 2011 08:54 PM (hIWe1)

307 285 >>>Ace, keep moving this forward through your genius.

I did a victory lap on twitter about predicting the "private security firm" gambit. I baited the MSM by asking them if they thought I was simply psychic, or maybe there was some other reason I was living in Weiner's head.

I tweeted to him on Saturday and Sunday that he was huddled up in a boardroom in an office of a crisis communications (Spin SWAT) firm. I am confident that when I addressed him that's exactly where he was.

I doubt I've gotten anything wrong, including the baiting speculation.

340 Give O'Reilly a break on this one. Like Jeff B. said, he's actually taking a good, "responsible" take on this. This is how you push the official methods to move the ball. It's the tack I'd take if I wanted to appeal to the uninformed moderates: let some analyze the "common man" response to an incident while I address the "honorable" Congressman. Take the "victim" at his word, at first, and push for legal, binding action. Then start asking the third parties for their response to the incident since they were drawn in, too (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, yfrog, Capitol security, etc.).

Reasonable people will get drawn in to the story in an official manner with a ratcheting of events.

Well here's the big secret about Anthony Weiner: nobody really likes him at all in NYC (or NY state) politics.  He's seen as a fake, an opportunistic.  Within the world of NYC Democrats, he was viewed for years as sort of a center-right guy (you have to understand...this is NYC we're talking about, but do note that Weiner's district is the most GOP-leaning of the Five Borough's outside of Mike Grimm's actually Republican one on Staten Island), in the mold of his predecessor in the Congressional seat he holds, Chuck Schumer.  (Again, yes: there was a time when Schumer was seen as a moderate of sorts, and not just a dependably liberal sleazebag.)

And NYC politicos dislike him for the same reason they disliked Schumer: they saw them as outsiders, not "real" liberals, but canny opportunists who leveraged their centrist crossover appeal and media-whoring antics (Weiner was Schumer's aide when Schumer was Congressman -- he learned from the best) into a national profile that vaulted them ahead of fellow Dems who had actually "paid their dues."

You have to remember -- again in the world of NYC politics, which is significantly to the left of the country as a whole, so adjust your visor accordingly -- prior to 2009 and push for Obamacare, Weiner had actually spent his career carefully acquiring credentials as being a moderate in the NY Dem caucus: voted for the Iraq War, very VERY pro-Israel, muscular foreign-policy guy, pro-Wall Street and business, etc.  Sure he's 100% pro-choice and anti-gun, but that's New York for you.

It was only after Obamacare got rolling that he made the (brilliant) tactical decision to fight a battle that he knew was lost from the get-go: for the Public Option in the healthcare package.  He demagogued the issue up and down the halls of every single cable TV station on the planet, if you recall...and prior to that he wasn't very well known.  Now Weiner KNEW that there was never any chance of actually getting a public option into the bill, which is exactly why he chose that issue: he wanted to raise his national profile and become a hero to the left (specifically the Kos/online Left, which drives media buzz), so suddenly he pivots from being a "centrist Dem" to being a "hard left crusader."  Don't think for a moment that this didn't piss off a bunch of NYC politicos who understood exactly what Weiner was doing, and what his reasons were.  He lost the battle, but then he never intended to win.  He was playing for a different victory, and he won that one.

Finally, Weiner's a notoriously mean person.  I mean, this isn't even much of a secret anymore -- you keep seeing hints of it bubbling up in press accounts over the last few days -- but I'll just lay it out straight: he's easily one of the nastiest, rudest, most prickish cockholsters on Capitol Hill.  He's arrogant, shouts all the time, berates EVERYONE from staffers (an even higher turnover than Michele Bachmann, and that's saying something!) to fellow congressmen (ask Pete King!) to reporters.  Nobody really likes him, except of course the nutroots and the future voters of NYC whose opinion of him is formed by his newfound media celebrity.

That's why there is a lot of schadenfreude (as reported by Politico) right now in Dem circles, watching Weiner implode professionally.  He had no real allies, no real friends.  He's angered a lot of people, and his only real friends are in the MSM.

Howard Kurtz is now a girther:

"At the outset, I argued that Weiner was entitled to the presumption of innocence. ...  But after listening to Weiner bob and weave and talk about how photographs can be manipulated, and how heÂ’s called in experts to determine whether that is or isnÂ’t his junk, I have to say: heÂ’s not acting very smart. The explanations seem increasingly bizarre. In the court of public opinion, at least, Weiner has forfeited the presumption of innocence."

"Sending a young woman a lewd photo is not an impeachable offense, but it is monumentally bad judgment. Saying youÂ’re not sure if thatÂ’s you in the gray underwear is unimpeachably stupid."

" I just realized yesterday that I met Weiner's older brother, Seth, a couple of times in the mid-to-late 90s. He was friends with my brother, and Seth seemed like a nice guy--somewhat shy and go-out-of-his-way polite. He was killed by a hit-and-run driver in 2000 (years after I last saw him). One funny thing: Seth was an FFL on the side. I vividly remember his handing me a business card with his name and FFL license number on it and saying, "Give me a call if you're shopping for hardware."

I think ace ought to seriously consider letting you do a post pretty much re-capping what you've been saying re:Weiner.

I sort of knew who Weiner was and what he was thanks to an opportunity to briefly observe him in person several years ago.  A lot of people know or think they know what a nasty P.O.S. he is, but you laid it all out...at 1:30 AM on a Thursday morning, when not many will see it

Posted by: A Balrog of Morgoth (Jeff B.'s New Fanboi) at June 02, 2011 01:31 AM (agD4m)

Agreed. Jeff's comment is post-worthy - especially in explaining the background for why pursuing weinergate is worthwhile even if Weiner doesn't resign.

Thanks, Balrog (and coming from you I know it's a real compliment).  Care to share your personal anecdote?  Was he bigfooting people at a bar/club/restaurant?  Shouting at subordinates?  Just giving off general douchechills?

363 I guess since there is now some disagreement as to the veracity of the photo being Weiner's weiner, based on the size, we'll just have to start calling those defending him by saying its too big to be Weiner's,  the GIRTHERS.

367 Ace -

I completely understand your reluctance to post anything potentially defamatory, of course, but I will point out that nothing in that post I wrote is defamatory.  It refers to his political record and his reputation among fellow NY politicos.  And THAT can be easily confirmed, in fact it's on my mind because I noticed that Politico was finally reporting about it tonight.

Never shy about belting out R-rated language, he enjoys challenging staff members on issues, even at parties. And, in a city saturated with transient career hoppers, Mr. Weiner has presided over more staff turnover than any other member of the New York House delegation in recent years, according to an analysis of congressional data."

375 From the great HuffPo article (back in 2008!):

"It started as a routine conference call. But at some point during the call, Representative Anthony D. Weiner became furious, convinced that his scheduler had not given him a crucial piece of information.

His scheduler, John J. Graff, who was in the next room, suddenly heard the congressman yelling at him through the wall.

Then, Mr. Graff recalled, Mr. Weiner started pounding his fists on his desk, kicked a chair and unleashed a string of expletives.

Two weeks later, Mr. Graff, a Navy veteran, became the latest of a sizable number of staff members who have resigned after an abbreviated stint with Mr. Weiner, a Democrat who represents parts of Brooklyn and Queens."

Yeah, this guy's a fucking prick and a half.

Posted by: Jeff B. at June 01, 2011 10:04 PM (hIWe1)

377 #363 Was he bigfooting people at a bar/club/restaurant?

No, nothing as profound as all that, and I do not recall the details as well as I would like.  He was the featured VIP at the graduation/commissioning ceremony of the NROTC unit where I was then an instructor.  Dude shows up about halfway through, says a few words (that left me with the impression he had his eye on Gracie Mansion), then just leaves, trailed by his assistants.  Total driveby.

Maybe that's typical for him, but I've never seen anyone make a cameo appearance at a commissioning ceremony.  It's just not done.

To revisit a point you made earlier, i.e. he's a recent convert to moonbattery since he is looking to win a citywide race rather than just his district:  Amen.  The Progtards in Astoria and Long Island City would have backed some Working Families Whackjob before they would have supported the old Anthony Weiner.

379 Human behavior is a something most people just live with and don't think about day to day. Some people understand why chicks, cops, teachers, bloggers, reporters act the way they do. They tend to compartment their thoughts with their surroundings. Ace isn't doing that here. Ace has been around and learned (and read) enough to put his finger on a behavior that is explainable. This Congressman wanted to be a congressman for power.

Posted by: freedomplow at June 01, 2011 10:05 PM (GLP9X)

2 questions (or maybe 1):
1) What is up with the patriot76 May 11 assertion that there would be some damaging pic or something coming out?
2) Same with Breitbart saying (early on) that more was on the way?

Is Weiner going to get hit with dic pic number 2 to another honey that Breitbart will disclose in Acorn-story-like fashion?

I wonder if coeds will start coming out of the woodwork... kind of like Tiger's ladies - in which most people lost count after about 431 or so.

Oh I have absolutely no doubt that he's smart.  Stupid people don't survive and thrive in the meat-grinder of NYC Democratic politics, and furthermore his public appearances prove well enough to me that he's got a brain.

But there's a difference (and I would know from experience!) between being smart and having good judgment.  Or being smart and being an irredeemable, arrogant asshole.  (In fact, those two often tend to go hand-in-hand, especially in politics.)

I don't think a psych-profile of Weiner is particularly hard to figure out.  He fits the pattern of a lot of chip-on-the-shoulder politicians who suddenly find themselves "sexy" and "in demand" after years of being passed over by the opposite sex.

409 Let us not confuse smart with cunning. For example, Barry is very, very clearly not smart. He may remember lots of stuff, if in the wrong order and category, and he may be able to enunciate words if on TelePrompter. He can recite by rote post-modern pablum, like a ventriloquist dummy on the hand of someone reading Cliff Notes to PoliSci 101. However, he is not smart. Cunning, yes. Extremely cunning and clever, like a con man.

416 Eh, as unbiased as I can be... even when taking away all the aspects of Barry that I DON'T like, I just don't see what there is to be impressed about.  He can act kinda uppity pretty well and he can read the teleprompter, I guess.  All the wonderful characteristics attributed to him by the media is just that.

But back on topic with the likely similarity between Hayley Williams and Antony Weiner, from the very start it seemed open and shut to me (going completely by what Ace was reporting).  It was never really a question of did he do it,  but rather will this find traction over the long weekend.  Then, of course, the interviews totally confirmed it.  And, the "journalists" just couldn't keep from delving into it a little... I mean, when a US Rep is so obviously lying about sexting a young journalism major.  It's like he left them no choice, and now we'll see where it goes!

I think he'll weather it somewhat, but it will be a significant black-eye, and for the rest of his life people will smile to his face and laugh at his jokes... you know nice political laughter... and then as they walk away they will laugh at him.  And, when he hears the whispers, he should know that they are commenting under their breath, "sick uncle pervy weiner... actually thinks he's funny when he's actually equal parts of geek, desperate, power-hungry, and liar."

His sway is forever seriously damaged.

423 Oh, and a final cherry on the sundae that I'll put in the Weiner post going up on Friday: if he resigns (and he won't, but say if he did), his district isn't necessarily a slam dunk for the Democrats to hold.  I mean, it's still more likely than not, but Weiner only got 55% of the vote in 2004 (a Presidential year) and IIRC only 59% in 2008, which is particularly bad given that he's a decade-long incumbent and he was facing a no-name opponent with no money.  NY-9 has never gone GOP in its history, but it's gotten more GOP-leaning than any other district in the United States since 2000.  We could at least make it a race.

Something to chew on.

Surely you must be.

I submit that many of the se theories are originating with these advisors and then being propagated amoung the tubes by trolls.

One can only hope.  If Weiner's accounts are actually hacked, wouldn't that put him between a rock and a hard place?  I mean, he'd almost have to report a real hack but that leaves him open to "exposure" on the fake one.

You are such an irredeemable scumbag prick.  Thank you for accusing me of what, plagiarizing my insights or something.  But of course if you'd bothered to read my earlier post, I wrote just this:

"And THAT can be easily confirmed, in fact it's on my mind because I noticed that Politico was finally reporting about it tonight."

I mentioned the Politico article several times in this thread.  But of course all you want to do is deny me credit for something, I guess.  You're a worthless person.  You're so full of hatred that you can't even think.

457 Oh and Beedubya, did I plagiarize the stuff about Weiner being a rude nasty prick from Politico too?  Even though I provided links to old articles from the NY Times and the Huffington Post from 2008 and 2009?

In fact, what the fuck did I plagiarize at all?  You schmuckishly cited "Fair Use" in an effort to impugn my integrity -- because you're an aspersion-casting sack of crap -- but that would suggest I've just stolen someone's article word-for-word.  Guess what?  We covered similar subjects, OBVIOUSLY, so we said similar things about the matter.  But everything I wrote is my own language, for fuck's sake.  For you to accuse me of stealing someone else's words is lower that whaleshit, which coincidentally is exactly what you are.

Seriously: between the attacks on my friends and family and now this (which in a way is worse), you're dirt.

459 Within the world of NYC Democrats, he was viewed for years as sort of a center-right guy (you have to understand...this is NYC we're talking about, but do note that Weiner's district is the most GOP-leaning of the Five Borough's outside of Mike Grimm's actually Republican one on Staten Island), in the mold of his predecessor in the Congressional seat he holds, Chuck Schumer

Hmmmm........

Anthony Weiner, who spent most of his career as a media-friendly center-right (by local standards) outer borough Democrat in the Chuck Schumer model,

462 Anthony is such a dick.

Posted by: Richard Weiner at June 02, 2011 06:32 AM (wOaLi)

463 Holy shit, Beedubya: Weiner worked for Chuck Schumer for years as an aide in his DC office and his Brooklyn field office.  He took his seat upon Schumer's leaving it for the Senate.  He patterned himself after his media style, TRANSPARENTLY.  And he spent his career prior to 2009 building centrist credentials, a fact which anyone who follows congress in DC knows about.  (Guess what?  I know reams and reams of crap about a TON of congressmen and senators...I blather about it all the time on this moronblog!)

And yet mentioning these things in a paragraph is like, plagiarizing from anyone else who makes the same well-known points?

You are beneath contempt.

Posted by: Jeff B. at June 02, 2011 06:47 AM (hIWe1)

464 I guess you don't understand just how fucking mad accusations of plagiarism make me.  Leaving aside the fact that your understanding of the term from a legal perspective is childish (your use of "fair use" and citing of "having rights to" is ridiculous), morally the accusation is revolting to me.

And yes, it's about fucking integrity.  I write what I write because it comes out of my head and onto the page.  Suddenly popping up in the comment thread here -- after a long history of attacking me in every savage and inappropriate way possible on this blog -- with the accusation that I simply stole (or cynically recycled) everything from Ben Smith...what, that's not an attack on my integrity?  Fuck you, buddy.  Seriously.  That gets people fired at the jobs I've worked in.

You haven't proven your point, and you've hugely insulted me.  I know you don't care, because you almost certainly didn't even care about this "accusation" anyway (just another opportunity to give me shit, of course).  But you should know you're a worm.

Okay, then why did he (& why do they) lie about it? If it's all good and life is an orgy, why lie about it? Just having fun anyway, right? Because of lying, y guess is that there is a moral compass in there somewhere, cuz he is protecting someone. no. I take that back. It is much more likely the thought process was , "man, this might hurt my reputation" rather than "dammit, this might hurt MY WIFE".

The most compelling evidence that it was Weiner himself that sent the tweet is his lack of any call for a real investigation.  If, as Weiner claims, it was his political enemies that hacked the offending tweet, then why isn't he loudly calling for an FBI investigation.  The security implications of hacking a congressmens account, even for a trivial thing like this, would definitely justify an investigation.  Most repubs not only agree, but are calling for one themselves.

If an enemy hacker did this, wouldn't Weiner be eager for the FBI to find this enemy, and jail them for criminal hacking.  Launching his own investigation, outside of the FBI, and solely under his control, only makes sense if he, or someone close to him, was the one that did it, since he knows his own investigation would never charge him, and it provides a cover excuse for not calling in the real investigators, the FBI hackers unit.

The many leftists that still beleive that Briebart did the hack are almost as stupid as the farm animals in Animal Farm that continued to beleive Squealers ever more outlandish stories.  If Briebart actually did it, Weiner would be demanding the FBI investigate, since he would be delighted if Briebart was convicted of criminal hacking.  Weiners silence, in not calling on the FBI, can only be explained because he knows any FBI investigation would either implicate him, or somebody close to him.  I know some leftists are willing to swallow almost any lie from their fellow leftists, but in this case it is not only a lie, but an incredibly stupid lie.

As for those who say this is not worth worrying about, we have a case where a US congressmen is publically claiming he was criminally hacked.  Dont we need to find out the identity of this criminal hacker, so we can deter future hacks, or if their is none, find out whether this congressmen is lying to us?  When O'Reilly was hacked, he called in the FBI, and they promptly caught the hacker.  Is O'Reilly more deserving of protection than a US congressmen?  (Well maybe he IS more deserving than this lying weasel, but in normal cases my answer would be no.)
