— Open Blogger A lot of zeros in a trillion. Hard to comprehend. The Gainesville Tea Party simplified the debt issue by chopping 8 zeros off all the numbers - creating family sized dollar amounts.
Why S&P Downgraded the US:
U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
Federal budget: $3,820,000,000,000
New debt: $1,650,000,000,000
National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
Recent [April] budget cut: $38,500,000,000Let’s remove 8 zeros and pretend it’s a household budget:
Annual family income: $21,700
Money the family spent: $38,200
New debt (this year) on the credit card: $16,500
Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
Budget cuts: $385
Looking at it this way, there are few serious politicians in DC working on the problem.

I want less of this, and more discussion of the precise terminology our candidates should be allowed to use when describing exactly how much of a complete and utter f*ckup SS is. Because that's what's important. Semantics.

The debt is $131,000 per taxpayer - $260,000 per family!!!

Yup we need more big spenders and RINOs to solve the problems we have. Let's just spend more and increase the taxes then all will be like they are in Argentina and Zimbabwe!

Give me some credit. Over ten years we were gonna cut $10,000, with $9,000 of that in the final year. Cause in ten years it would be easier to cut.

I'm kind of in the dumps today. I have this feeling that Romeny will ultimately prevail, and while he may well win, we will have blown the best chance conservatives will have the rest of this century to elect a non-RINO to the White House.

Perry sent cops to the border in droves? Which border might that be? The Louisiana one where they're laying in wait for speeders?
To know what a joke Perry is ask one question, "What has Perry done to punish those Texas towns and cities that have sanctuary policies like Houston.?"
Crickets. People who spout such nonsense have no knowledge of Texas nor Perry.
He opposed Arizona's efforts to restrict illegal immigration, he said they couldn't build a fence. But he can led the USA? Sorry if he can't secure the bortder because its soooo difficult he can't possible grasp anything so complex as correcting our economic policies.
What a putz.

I hope you are being sarcastic, since you can say the same of North Korea. The deal is that if we continue to debase the dollar, our government's creditors will demand repayment in a hard currency (e.g., the soon-to-be-back-for-a-return-engagement DM) rather than our Monopoly money.

I think this captures it exactly including the necessity of the spending:
Annual family income: $150,000 (US GDP 15t)
Daughter's budget for college: $21,700
Money the Daughter spent: $38,200
New debt (this year) on the credit card: $16,500
Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
Budget cuts: $3
There may be enough money left in the pot to send the daughter more money for college, but that isn't the answer, its not going to help you, and its not going to help the daughter either.
