The Lack of a Coherent Message ..ummm.... Is the Message! [wiserbud]
— Guest Blogger

Bless their little non-biased hearts over at AP. They do try so hard to turn failure into success for their little empty-headed ideological sisters and brothers.

Case in point, Colleen Long has written this little bit of fluff wherein she clearly points out how easy it is to find a silver lining in every dark cloud if you just look hard enough.

Of course, first you need to define the dark cloud:

It all has the feel of a classic street protest with one exception: It's unclear exactly what the demonstrators want.

"When all the bailout money was spent on bonuses and stuff everyone was outraged, but no one did anything because no one feels like they can," protester Jesse Wilson, 22, said this week when asked to take articulate the cause. "It's time for us to come together to realize we are the masses, and we can make things happen."

But he couldn't say what, exactly, he wanted to happen. Handmade signs carried by some of the demonstrators — "Less is More" and "Capitalism is evil" — hardly make it clearer.

I wonder how Jesse and his SEIU enablers feel about state employees getting their retention "bonuses" for doing nothing more than showing up for work every day? (well, most days, anyway. Don't want to stress the poor dears...)

Of course, the really funny part about the "Capitalism is Evil" mantra is found in the paragraph that precedes the one above:

They sleep on air mattresses, use Mac laptops and play drums. They go to the bathroom at the local McDonald's.

I'm sure those air mattresses were hand-made by Quadriplegic Native American Lesbians with sustainable growth hemp products. As well as the Macs. As for using McDonalds bathrooms, McDonald's being one of the biggest corporations on the planet, hey, dude, they have awesome fries!
But the real point that Ms. Long is trying to get across here is not the rank hypocrisy or the rank stupidity or even the rank odor of these attention-whores. It's the power of their message.

But he [Jesse (Starchild Rainbow Moonbeam Nike) Wilson] couldn't say what, exactly, he wanted to happen. Handmade signs carried by some of the demonstrators — "Less is More" and "Capitalism is evil" — hardly make it clearer.

See? Can you see the power of the message now??!?!

What? You are not quite getting it yet, you silly wingnut?

Okay, let's let Colleen spell it out for you:

Enter "Bill Dobbs, an activist involved in the 2004 demonstrations at the Republican National Convention, and many others."

Dobbs and others say the group's lack of specificity serves a purpose because it invites outrage over a full spectrum of societal grievances. Indeed, some demonstrators say they are against Wall Street greed, others say they are protesting global warming and still others say they are protesting "the man."

See, stupid? It's the lack of a message that is the message! You can get angry and outraged about anything at all and we are going to be right here by your side. It's like the Obama Guide to Protesting! As long as we're vague enough, we can be anything you want us to be!

What a new and exciting concept!!!

POWER TO THE VAGUE BUT OUTRAGED PEOPLE!!!!

Warning the link goes to Alex Jones.  It is an article saying the protesters are being suckered by Soros and others.  Some of the protesters are even saying that they are protesting to make sure Obama gets re-elected.  Drudge has articles saying these protests are being staged in other cities, too.  Guess the flash mobs did not accomplish enough.

5 Yeah, "Capitalism is evil," it's so unclear, what could these people possibly want? Are they hungry? Do they have to go to the bathroom? Use your words! Maybe they're effing communist looters. Nah, couldn't be. Maybe the few hundred lazy looters (demanding loot rather than just taking it) are getting national news coverage because the news whores are lazy looters, too. Nah, couldn't be.

How about "everybody should work including the poor"

I work for the only company that I know of that has hired anybody in the last 3 years other than restaurants and mini-marts.  With 10%+ unemployment you would think that you could find somebody with some skills, but no.  We get guys in their 30s and 40s all the time who have never done anything difficult in their entire lives.  I am not talking about flying an airplane, I am talking about using fucking scissors and simple shit like that.  We have a couple of press operators that flood our press pit every other week because they cant follow instructions even though they written right in front of them when they are opening and closing valves.  Most companies have a display of how many days they have worked without a lost time injury.  The longest I have seen our is 28 days because people don not know haw to use knives and scissors.  It's fucking unbelievable.

Yup, the anti-capitalist progressives are parasites since progressivism itself is an ideology of parasites. They can only redistribute wealth. Someone else has to create the wealth for them to redistribute. If big government is an engine for economic prosperity, then communism would have a big smashing success. The reality is the opposite. If these anti-capitilists are honest, they would have gone to North Korea to enjoy their progressive utopia there. If that is too far, they can try Cuba. They can enjoy the superior Cuban free healthcare also.

45 About that "lack of specificity" that "invites outrage".  Here's George Orwell's description of the Two Minutes Hate in 1984:

"The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but, on the contrary, that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge-hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against oneÂ’s will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic. And yet the rage that one felt was an abstract, undirected emotion which could be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blowlamp. Thus, at one moment WinstonÂ’s hatred was not turned against Goldstein at all, but, on the contrary, against Big Brother, the Party, and the Thought Police; and at such moments his heart went out to the lonely, derided heretic on the screen, sole guardian of truth and sanity in a world of lies. And yet the very next instant he was at one with the people about him, and all that was said of Goldstein seemed to him to be true. At those moments his secret loathing of Big Brother changed into adoration, and Big Brother seemed to tower up, an invincible, fearless protector, standing like a rock against the hordes of Asia, and Goldstein, in spite of his isolation, his helplessness, and the doubt that hung about his very existence, seemed like some sinister enchanter, capable by the mere power of his voice of wrecking thestructure of civilization."

60 OT... OMFG. This is a foretaste of Campaign 2012. The rule now is apparently one is responsible personally for graffiti placed without permission in the distant past on property leased by any member of your family, even if the graffiti has been effaced for years and you never put it there anyhow and you conservatives are just filthy racists no matter what. NRO: The Washington Post reports that a camp leased by Rick Perry and/or his family  had “[N-word]head” written on a rock: As recently as this summer, the slablike rock — lying flat, the name still faintly visible beneath a coat of white paint — remained by the gated entrance to the camp. When asked last week, Perry said the word on the rock is an “offensive name that has no place in the modern world.” In his responses to two rounds of detailed, written questions, Perry said his father first leased the property in 1983. Rick Perry said he added his own name to the lease from 1997 to 1998, when he was state agriculture commissioner, and again from 2004 to 2007, when he was governor. … “My mother and father went to the lease and painted the rock in either 1983 or 1984,” Perry wrote. “This occurred after I paid a visit to the property with a friend and saw the rock with the offensive word. After my visit I called my folks and mentioned it to them, and they painted it over during their next visit.” “Ever since, any time I ever saw the rock it was painted over,” Perry said. Perry’s version of events differs in many respects from the recollections of seven people, interviewed by The Washington Post, who spoke in detail of their memories of seeing the rock with the name at various points during the years that Perry was associated with the property through his father, partners or his signature on a lease.

73 A suggestion for the "protestors".

When you're "deprivatizing" someone's property, make their firearms "public" first... otherwise out of their sense of compassion and sharing, they might "donate" some ammunition that you'd otherwise have preferred to "redistribute" in a different fashion than the property owners have in mind.

I know that is my provincial capitalism loving right-wing response to a fascist controlling organization trying to tell me that the fruits of my labor belongs to them and I should be a slave owned by the state without a right to own property or to benefit from my own work.

I'm probably just not properly "educated"; maybe I need re-educated before I can live in their perfect utopia of government fascism, slavery, poverty, and death.

You just work according to your ability for your own enjoyment and you can take whatever you need. There is an abundance of material wealth in the ultimate progressive utopia of communism. Tycoon Warren Buffett, headliner of last night’s fund-raiser for President Obama at the Four Seasons, reiterated his advice for a tax on “ultra-rich people who are paying very low tax rates.”

But the message appeared to have limited appeal to donors expected to pay $10,000 a plate; the turnout was “disappointing,” according to one guest.

An Obama fund-raising insider said the campaign has been getting resistance from some Wall Street donors from 2008 over the proposal, though Buffett said the event “went OK.”

So...the protesters are idiots.

Keeping in mind that that the left-wing MSM doesn't really want to make Obama look bad. So, like they do with right-wing protesters, they pick the most disreputable and idotic signs and people to photograph and interview. Season it all with a bit of nostalgia for the War on Poverty, and that becomes the MSM narrative.

If you dig a little bit, you'll find that the protester demographics are more slightly diverse than you've been led to believe by the MSM.

Now, if you buy into the MSM narrative about these protesters, that means Wall Street is good for you. ...especially GM, Fannie and Freddie, BoA, Wachovia, certain green companies on Wall Street ...and anyone else who got a goverment bailout for being too big to fail. Any of the boards of directors and management who recieved bonuses after those bailouts are decent people who deserved those monster bonuses. That's what you're arguing, here: Protesters bad, Wall Street - and their political minions - are good.

My point being that most of you have previously argued the other side of that dispute. What changed your mind? The protesters are using bad grammar!!! Plus!!! They've been exercising their Constituional rights and protesting for days and now they smell funny!!! OOooh!!!! How terrible! Bad protester!!! Bad protester!!! They don't like Wall Street!!! They MUST be commies!!!

...you idiots...

About protesters using products made by big corporations and using Micket D's bathrooms? You haven't read Sun Tzu. Using the enemy's resources against him is a good thing.

I'm not saying those protesters should be testing for MENSA anytime soon.

I'm sayin' that, once again, you've bought the left wing and MSM propaganda, hook, line and sinker. They don't have to ppull your strings or punch your buttons. When their band bgins to play, you just start dancing.

154 I personally have no major beef with Wall Street, and frankly, if an employee in a private company signed a contract that said they should get a monster bonus if certain conditions were met, I have no problem with said employee getting that bonus if those conditions were, in fact, met.

WB, in case you hadn't noticed, there are precious few of us who buy into anything the MFM says. Soooo, your argument falls apart early.

But thanks for playing.

Back in the dark ages, there were no grants to attend college.  Most students humped their asses off during the summer, and many worked part-time during the school year.

Many students also dropped semesters to work so they could continue.  This was a ball-busting experience, and it was considered thoughtful and righteous to do what you had to do to achieve your goal.

When did it become fashionable to demand others pay for your education?

159 The thing that has been grinding my gears about this are all of the signs bitching about student loans.  Did these morons who PUT Obama into office forget that the government took over their student loans in March 2010, and now their interest is used to fund ObamaCare???  F'ing morons.

dude! lemme explain it to you.

Under the workers' rule everything will be equal!

2 + 2 will equal whatever the people say it means!

all jobs will pay well!

everyone will have a college education, even Corky from that old tv show!

everyone will have access to high quality medical care!

there will be no homelessness!

there will be no domestic violence or abandoned children!

Uniforms will shit skittles! Honey Badger will give many shits!

(okay, I made up that last one. I went to college years ago with people who were that stupid, though. They still exist...)

That's some weapons grade stupid right there. Really, I don't think I have read anything that clueless.

I haven't seen anyone here arguing against wallstreet or the bonuses they make. It's none of my business what they make and they got those bonuses from subsequent profits, they paid the money back too. A lot of us complained about the GM and Bank bailouts but that isn't the banks fault our stupid politicians gave them the bailouts. The banks and GM made mistakes, they should have suffered the consquences.

I've read Sun Tzu, I don't remember the chapter where he advocated protesting his enemies.

But hey it's a free country, get your I phone and get your ass to New York, maybe you can help them find the police station this time.

Well when the hippies realize that they are clean they'll either break out into an orgy or throw themselves at Mother Earth and roll around in the dirt until sufficiently dirty again.

The right should be taking over these protests or influencing them, instead of allowing the left to propagandize the issue. iow, the right is going to become the populist bad guy for being seen as supporting and defending Wall Street corruption. i.e. Attack the protesters and you're supporting Wall Street corruption.

Change up a bit and merely 'question the methods and means' of the protests. Call for a peaceful resolution of the issue and encourage the prosecution and conviction of corrupt Wall Street firms, CEO's and boards of Directors. Call for changes in campaign finance laws and eliminate or reform the practice of lobbying. Call for changes in mark to market rules and regulations of Wall Street firms and banks and financials.

Reaffirm the right of each American to earn his or her own way. Change the laws that make it all but impossible to do so, now.

Attacking the messenger? Attacking the protesters? Allow them to win populist messaging? You'll lose the war.

Stop being a tool and work the problem, people.

170 I know the motivation. Why is the party that is supported by and supports the biggest firms on Wall Street encouraging pretend protests by the core of their base? Who benefits? This is about re-setting the narrative of the glorious community organizer coming to the rescue of the little man. There will be a speech by the SCOAMF where he'll propose something punitive against them. Watch. It's a play.
