The Next, Inevitable Step in the Occupation Movement
— Dave in Texas

People get killed. A lot of people. Because this is eventually where riots lead (incidentally, nice work on the rapes and assaults, you OWS knuckleheads. Much twinkles. Good setup. Well done.)

Occupy Oakland gets all crazy over the price of arugula and teaches a Whole Foods Store a lesson they won't soon forget.

Watts, 1965. 34 killed, over a thousand injured. Chicago, 1968. 39 dead. Hundreds of cities across the nation that same year. Kent State in 1970. Go back fifty years, go back a hundred and fifty years. Uncontained riots lead to a lot of people dying.

This will not end well. Hell, it's already awful. And the people who own it are the Dem-led municipal governments who refuse to put an end to it, who instead embrace it for political advantage. And by own it I mean the blood is on their hands.

People will die because of the nonsensical rantings of thousands of ninnies and the invisible hand of Karl Marx. Terrific.

5 The longer these mobs last the probability of this turning into a mass violence event approaches 100 percent. We already have 99 percenters advocating violence against the police. Some agitator is just waiting for an excuse to turn this into something far worse. It will happen, in a matter of weeks, if not sooner.

Posted by: robtr at November 02, 2011 08:21 PM (MtwBb)

32 The problem of course is that the good citizens of Oakland elected a woman named Jean Quan as mayor. She's an old leftist who grew up in the '60s and has learned nothing and forgotten nothing since. She is philosophically sympatico with the Occupiers. This is, after all, the city that resuscitated Jerry Brown's political career after his first failed governorship, the city that handed Ron Dellums the mayoralty pretty much as a sinecure, if insanity is continuing to elect a procession of the same sort of addle-brained leftist time-server while expecting competent leadership then the voters of Oakland are clinically insane. Or perhaps just unbearably, unbelievably, stupid.

Your ... "people who own it are the Dem-led municipal governments " ... reminds us that all politics is local, indeed. We have to stomp on this Dem-led contagion of socialistic acting out, and the thinking behind it, at the root level. We need conservative mayors, conservative commissioners/council folk, etc. And we have to stop waiting on the sidelines to only "play" in the big game, at the national level, with our votes. It is imperative that we vote and oppose continuously the left-thinkers at the local level also, or our gooses are surely cooked.

All I'm saying is, some of the ones that MAY go onto a worthy, well-lived life MAY NOT have the fortunate outcome that I didn't deserve, but somehow ended up with.

But if they refuse to learn from the rough handling Life is about to give their pwecious selves, well...fuck 'em. You only get so many chances.

91 I've seen this movie before, and it does not end well. I was a teenager during the 65-68 riots. The riots were in the wake of the last leftist orgy of social engineering (Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, etc.) and were similarly greeted with enthusiasm by Democrat officeholders who saw the riots as an "authentic" uprising against oppressive American society. The Republicans replied by nominating, and electing, Richard Nixon to the Presidency in 1968. Nixon was the Romney of his time: a nominal conservative who was comfortable straddling the left-right political chasm. Nixon's presidency was most notable NOT for Watergate, but because he doubled-down on Johnson's Great Society, massively increasing Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps and giving us OSHA, EPA, and a host of other nanny-state agencies. Nixon made the welfare state a bi-partisan enterprise leading directly to the financial mess we are in today.

93 if Bloomberg grows a set--and btw the downtown lefty business community is getting antsy--then the NYPD will unleash hell on the dysfunctional dickheads with ease--they will have war stories to tell from their time in Rikers with attendant barricade puffery but they will have to be told standing up as the incarcerated hood rats will have parted more than a few ofay cheeks in the jail showers--like chum to a mako The NYPD has already infiltrated the slovenly mob and the "leaders" will be first to go as the outer borough and long island cop mentality works its magic on these drey cup aliens to "the city"

96 I would seriously consider calling out the National Guard.

Nah. For the most part this is an issue that the Democratic city mayors have brought upon themselves, and I say let them wallow in it. I don't see why the governors should call out the National Guard when the local mayors refuse to use the local police and express sympathy with the OWS nitwits. That just gives the mayors something to dodge responsibility with. "Oh, you precious dears, the mean old National Guard mussed your hair! I'd never order my police to do that! Vote for me!'

Let the mayors own the chaos in their cities. Encourage the exit of businesses to the burbs. In five years time the downtown areas will be well on their way to Detroit status.

TANJ that this pusillanimous pipsqueak made billions and got elected as Mayor of NYC. By rights he should be a tailor in Queens living upstairs with his mother.

All by myself
Don't wanna be

Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And love's so distant and obscure
Remains the cure

All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself

All by myself

123 On net, the OWS movement is a very good thing. John Edwards was somewhat correct. There really are two Americas. Too many of us who are not on the left could not get past the love we have of this country to see this. OWS makes this easy. There are the fifty-two and the rest of us. The fifty-two are comprised of parasitic leeches worth considerably less than the food and oxygen they waste and the wannabe dictators "organizing" the scum's exercise of the Seven Deadly Sins into the votes they need to grab and hold the reins of power. The heinous face of bin Laden's islam provided the stark contrast needed to see once and for all that the west is simply *better* than the non-west. Similarly OWS has run enough of its course that any participant who has not yet learned the lesson that our civilizational traditions beat the living shit out of whatever hand-signs-based idiocy they pull out of their collective ass is just too fucking stupid to be suffered to live.

125 I thought things moving in this direction - toward widespread mayhem and eventually large numbers of dead people - was the plan. Remember you have to have an "unprecedented crisis" of some sort to "postpone" elections next fall. And these bastards will try that trick if it looks like President Petulant has no chance at re-election (and maybe even if they just look certain to lose both houses of Congress). The "justification" could be the economy or it could be these idiots rioting in the streets (I'd bet on a combination of the two), but they need some excuse or even some of the Obama lemmings might not follow along. It's not an accident that Dem politicians and talking heads in the Lamestream Media keep floating the idea of suspending elections for awhile.

"Obeying the law and paying my taxes makes *me* the sucker." Yes, if you're getting absolutely nothing legitimate in return. Yes, if your integrity and reputation are of no value. Yes, so long as you're enabling entitlement bail-out mentality, and not directing your outrage to your local authorities organizing within your local/State Tea Party movement to counter local unreasonable Occupy demands.

138 Those conclusions follow the same irrational course of "nonsensical ranting" envious of the lame brain lazy ass Occupy ninnies. It is not irrational, and it hasn't been for a long while. Tragedy of the Commons wouldn't be a tragedy if it didn't pit the various contexts of utility against one another. I'll keep it between the lines, work hard, and pay my taxes so long as my personal cost-benefit analysis tells me it's the way to go. But I no longer do it from a sense of duty. I do it because I don't want to go to prison. While I *could* put more effort into changing the system, I am reserving more and more of that energy for preparing for the collapse. There is one simple solution to the OWS problem: Stop the government handouts and let deadbeats go begging or starve. This requires no action. It requires only that we stop doing the unsustainable. So long as that is off the table—and it is even with your average Tea Party type—the collapse is inevitable.

About 3,000 people converged on the Port of Oakland, the nation's fifth-busiest harbor, in a nearly five-hour protest Wednesday, swarming the area and blocking exits and streets with illegally parked vehicles and hastily-erected, chain-link fences. Port officials were forced to cease maritime operations. Occupy Wall Street movement, ended with police in riot gear arresting dozens of protesters who had marched through downtown to break into a vacant building, shattering windows, spraying graffiti and setting fires along the way. Police said that about 7,000 people participated in demonstrations throughout the day. By night, protesters had broken into and occupied a downtown building and set several simultaneous fires. The protesters began hurling rocks, explosives, bottles, and flaming objects at responding officers. Several private and municipal buildings sustained heavy vandalism. Dozens of protesters wielding shields were surrounded and arrested." Fire crews arrived and suppressed the flames. Organizers in Oakland had viewed the day as a significant victory.

163 Bonus Army 1932

Retired Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler, one of the most popular military figures of the time, visited their camp to back the effort and encourage them. On July 28, U.S. Attorney General William D. Mitchell ordered the veterans removed from all government property. Washington police met with resistance, shots were fired and two veterans were wounded and later died. President Herbert Hoover then ordered the army to clear the veterans' campsite. Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur commanded the infantry and cavalry supported by six tanks. The Bonus Army marchers with their wives and children were driven out, and their shelters and belongings burned.

A second, smaller Bonus March in 1933 at the start of the Roosevelt Administration was defused with promises instead of military action. In 1936, Congress overrode President Franklin D. Roosevelt's veto to pay the veterans their bonus years early.

164 In July 1932, [George S.] Patton served under Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur as a major commanding 600 troops, including the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. On July 28, MacArthur ordered these troops to advance on protesting veterans known as the "Bonus Army" in Washington, D.C. with tear gas and bayonets. One of the veterans dispersed by the cavalry was Joe Angelo, who had saved Patton's life in World War I. Patton was dissatisfied with MacArthur's conduct as he recognized the legitimacy of the veteran's complaints and had himself earlier refused to issue the order to employ armed force to disperse the veterans

Posted by: OregonMuse at November 03, 2011 12:24 AM (QTDz6) No sir, I am afraid we CANNOT! This has gone on far too long and I have been silent. Well, no more! I take issue with your use of the indefinite article 'a'. That is 'a' as in one of many. True Joe Biden is a moron, and Eric Holder is an underhanded bounder, etc. but none of them match Obama in his shiftless, criminal, mishandling of the presidency. No, he stands alone in his paragon of incompetentce. Therefore the use of the indefinite article is euphamistically incorrect. Obama is THE stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure. Posted by: Warthog at November 03, 2011 12:59 AM (WDySP) Bravo!!!
