— Guest Blogger My latest infographic has "dropped" (that's what the kids say, right?). This is my second stab at creating one; the first was a timeline of the Solyndra scandal.
In this infographic, I took a look at various statements and promises made by Barack Obama (and a few others) during both the 2008 campaign and early on in his Presidency. These statements were then set against current statistics and those from inauguration day or 2008 for annual stats.
Open it up below the fold. I tried to keep the width down to avoid blowing up the blog. The larger version is available here. Feel free to embed it on your own website (just toss my Flickr page a link, please).

Commendable work.
It should be disseminated far and wide.
The 'rons and 'ettes need to spam every Republican candidate with it.
Every Obama ass kissing/Republicans suck article and opinion piece from the NYT to the local fish wrap deserves a link.

Holy f*ck. I never saw that quote about how poverty was the issue that led him to a life of public service 25 years ago. Twenty-five years ago was 1986, the second term of Ronald Reagan. Without having any numbers handy, I could easily guess that we were at the height of our wealth then. And this bozo thought poverty was the big-ass issue.
Why didn't he join the Peace Corps or become some sort of missionary (what, doesn't that Trinity United Church of Christ have African missions?) or join Lawyers Without Borders and work to abolish agricultural subsidies that put African farmers out of business or -- I mean, he's so consumed with the tragedy of poverty that he goes to America's second city to tackle it?
A new ray of stupid every day. Someone ought to create a desk calendar of Obamanisms.

John E:
An excellent graphic that is scary as hell. As bad as those numbers are, the raw data is being diddled in order to reduce the magnitude of the SCOAMF's disasterous regime.
By the time Obama gets his pink-slip, the acronym "SCOAMF" will probably become an adjective.

The data itself does not bode well for our nation.
I wish someone could tie this in somehow with Rush's declaration of wishing Obama to fail.
Because......this is what Rush was warning the nation about.

61 .... The O-bots will, you can be sure, accuse you of fabricating quotes. It's a lot harder when there's a full attribution along the lines of "Barack Obama, August 14th, 2008, _New York Times_, page A-3." Those minor quibbles notwithstanding, this is beautiful work.
But that would clutter up the simplicity of it, Torquewrench.
You make a good point.....but the beauty of a Graphic such as this, is the simple readability of it.
So I hope that John E. keeps it as is, and simply has those long-form "full attributions" handy, if the O-bots try to accuse him of fabricating quotes.

On the bar graphs, you may want to consider turning them so they are side by side with (0) at the bottom of the bar graph with the debt figures at the top. Vertical side by side bar graphs have a more immediate impact when displaying diparate numbers.

It's a frickin' scam. "Poverty" in America means fridges, microwaves, and air conditioning. It is nothing like poverty in say, Bangladesh.

Accounting tricks were used to grossly understate the deficit in 2008.
Federal government debt increased by $1.47 trillion in 2008.
Source: debt to the penny
1 Jan 2008: $9,229,172,659,218.31
1 Oct 2008: 10,124,225,067,127.69
31 Dec 2008: $10,699,804,864,612.13
In the last 3 months of 2008 debt increased by over $575 billion, that's over $6 billion a day, equivalent to an annual deficit of over $2.3 trillion.
Conclusion: the budget had gone to hell before Obama took office.
That's the problem with these 'Obama And The Economy' graphs and such - the vast majority of Americans blame Republicans (for good reason), current and former, for the economic hardships. Charts like these just remind people why they hate politics, especially from the Right. They know they don'y have anyonw would running for president, NO ONE! So lies, smears, andname-calling is all they have, and it's pathetic!

Maybe he isn't just a buffoon...maybe he is accomplishing exactly what he set out to accomplish...the destruction of the US as we knew it to be.
If he is supposed to be so smart (though we don't know that from any real data) then to me that is a more likely scenario.
Otherwise he's just an example of the Peter Principle taken to the highest seat on the planet.

Does anyone stop and think about these statistics?
Doesn't anyone take into account the current economic situation?
Who seriously thinks that the statistics shown are to blame entirely on the Obama administration? Just think of what economic mess the Bush administration left.
Obama is the first president in a long time who actually tries to involve the other party in making policy. You could, therefore, wonder what the republican influence on these figures has been.

Most people aren't going to understand the second graph: what exactly is "U-3" unemployment? Or "U-6" unemployment? Either explain these terms in the graph or drop the graph altogether.
Otherwise, this is a brutal and effective document.

Who's funding the commercial to get this on the air?
Who's holding the press' feet to the fire for not reporting?

Obama is the byproduct of 1960s left wing radicalism and extremis wearing a Gucci suit and tie. By the lucky fate of his skin color, he was given a pass by those self-hating, guilt-ridden white liberals who would never have voted for him otherwise. Had he been white, his associations with left wing radicals, domestic terrorsits, and corrupt religious-facade community ghetto organizers would not have given him one minute of credibility as a Presidential candidate.
