The Perfect Christmas Gift for the Man Who Has Everything
— Dave in Texas

That's not a Swiss Army knife. This is a Swiss Army knife.

The Wenger 16999 Giant Swiss Army Knife

Just like this smart military blog, the best stuff is in the comments.

23 of 30 people found the following review helpful:

5 stars Be careful...I had it in my hip pocket, then I fell down. When I got up, I was dead. Other than that, it's ok.

3.0 out of 5 stars Found this...
...stuck into a stone while on vacation. I'm impressed with it, generally. Unfortunately, it turns out that removing it made me the new king of Switzerland, which is a lot of responsibility.

That includes clerk and jerks PLUS all the reserves, whom everyone is so titillated at the thought of keeping their issue assault rifles in their closet. Newsflash: your average Southerner is more heavily armed. Switzerland's primary export used to be mercenaries, specifically infantry. Since the advent of gunpowder, they've been continually contracting their defensive capability. Only 5% of their total strength are career soldiers. The rest are conscripts. And NONE of them are blooded. They would be as Meats in the hands of our Warriors. (Bonus points if you know the reference).

Better than the Swiss Army Knife is the famed US Army P38.  It's stated purpose is opening C-rats, but it has a bevy of other uses.

Great for shaving nose hair, cleaning finger nails, carving Kilroy Was Here into Thai hooker's butts, and regaling your girlfriend with the tale about cutting the nuts off an enemy soldier,  and then dining with the same P38 on Beanie Weenies.

The Obama presidential campaign is launching an effort to collect Republican email addresses by inviting its supporters to submit information about their Republican associates to the Obama 2012 website.

The Obama information collection effort is cast under the mischievous guise of asking Obama supporters to “have a little fun at the expense of a Republican in your life” by signing them up to get an email from the Obama campaign ribbing them for having “inspired” the Obama supporter to donate.

I suggest that everybody refer them to the FBI as a "cybercrime"

I know why: it's one more instance of his "enemies list" mentality.  He doesn't believe Conservatives are misguided friends (or even opponents) to be persuaded, he believes we're enemies to be defeated.

As such, the normal rules of decency have no place in his plans.  The normal paradigm of "not evil, just wrong" never even occurs to him.

On the other hand, I really do think that some specific liberals (Barack Obama, who is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure, for instance) are evil, not just wrong.  But that's on a case-by-case basis, not my belief about all liberals everywhere.

This is how atheists say have a nice day:

"At this season of the Winter Solstice, may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

That's their version of a Christmas wish. It's not just a bitter and cynical sentiment, it is a bitter and cynical prayer.

And the cocksckin group Freedom From Religion wants to put their atheistic prayer on a banner.

They are upset that the Knights of Columbus have a banner flying over a public street, as they've done for decades in Pitman, NJ, that says, "Keep the Christ in Christmas." So the atheist want to put up their own banner.

"Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum will likely enjoy an uptick in momentum after a conservative group releases its ratings of six leading GOP presidential contenders. And Mitt Romney is in for another blow.

[The report] offers good news for Gingrich, Perry and Santorum. All three received AÂ’s in every category the organization graded, and AÂ’s overall. Romney, however, scored a D overall.

On deficit elimination, each candidate received an A but Romney, who managed only a C. Romney also got a C for his planÂ’s inclusion of waste reduction, as did Bachmann and Paul. Perry, Gingrich and Santorum received AÂ’s in the latter category."

Unfavorable views of Barack Obama inched to their highest level of his presidency in the latest ABC/Washington Post poll, but he's still more popular than his front-running potential Republican challenger, Newt Gingrich.

And then there are views of the economy, which make both look almost good by comparison.

Forty-nine percent of Americans now express an unfavorable opinion of Obama, while 48 percent view him favorably - the first time his negative number has exceeded his positive one in this most basic measure of personal popularity. Obama's favorable rating has plummeted by 31 points from his career high, 79 percent, days before he took office.

Poor Barry, what can he do? All of his work to ruin the country is going unappreciated. Racism must be at an all time high.

If it's any consolation pierced ears can grow shut if he ever decides he doesn't want them any more. Also skin will grow through the opening and close off the wound as a source of infection. NOT the same for a pierced tongue which will never "heal through" and is a constant source of bacteria going straight into the vascular system.

I'm not fond of the idea, but frankly piercing an ear isn't in the same category of "irreversible body mutilation" for me that tats and other piercings are.

Didn't say I like it....just that it's not as bad as some other things he might have asked for.

I'm 52 and have had a single ear pierced for about 30 years... and found that a classy, single diamond stud, is acceptable in just about any social situation.

Fuck, here in the SF bay area I see babies with piercings. More than one.
Baby and piercings that is.

I swear I saw a 7 year old girl with tats. Makeup is normal.
I guess if you can wander around nekked, you might as well be able to get turned on by little kids.

188 I got my ear pierced when I was 17, without asking for permission. My dad was pissed and told me I'd regret it. He was right. The novelty wore off in 6 months and I took it out. The hole slosed, but it still looks like it's pierced from the outside. Fortunately, as I am knocking on 40, I can almost comb-over my ear hair to cover it up.

190 Okay, I'll tell what my decision was. I've been a pretty strict parent. I judge this to be true from my boys' comments I've been hearing for years that "Well, I don't understand, Johnny's parents are cool with it." He's been bugging me about it for about a year. He's graduating and attending college next year. And so, I chose to lose this battle. I told him he could get the ears pierced as long as he understood there are inappropriate places in which to wear them. Based on one of the comments above, I think I'll extract a promise from him to not get a tatoo in exchange for my relenting on this point. Thanks for the input...I cannot tell you how hard I've struggled with what, in the grand scheme of things, seems like such a small worry.

In addition to the moral repugnance that this entails, it is a glance at the clueless condescension of the elite.  The Weathermen were named from a lyric to Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows," a reference to historical inevitability of communism.  Here we are forty years later with another four decades of the failure of socialism and still it is the utopian day dream of the elite. There is no such thing as failure as far as the commies are concerned.

You must not have had the Survival Raft Tool 165 set to automatically deploy. I did until the damn thing went off in a rain storm.  If you still have the remote you should be able to deploy Tool 357, Life Ring, that should be enough to get it close enough to the surface that you can dive for it. Use Tool 492, Scuba Tank, when you get to it so that you have enough air to bring it up.

Though I'll say (even though it was probably completely accidental and "innocent") you need a real punishment, even if it's not too harsh.  Not sure about what your kids already do, but around my house growing up it would have being the one responsible for cleaning the kids' (3 boys) bathroom every weekend for a month.  Or something on that order.

Punishment isn't about being angry at them, it's about impressing upon them that they never, ever want to do that (whatever "that" was) again.

Especially if they really and truly are good kids, they will beat themselves up worse than you can.  Just tell them "We'll talk about it after I've had a chance to think up an appropriate punishment" and they'll torture themselves all day. Then at the end of the day you tell them "Don't do it again and we'll never have to talk about it again."  Bet you won't ever have to bring it up.

I'm in the midst of giving a final exam for my Finance students, and I'm bored (second one today).  Yes, I am one of THOSE profs. So I thought I'd check in with the Moron Horde.

Dagney:

Here in the RightWingHousehold, the eldest is only 11.  But she's well trained.  We don;t give consequences (i.e. if you don't do X, Y will happen).  We just say, "it's your choice" when we tell them to do something.  If they choose not to do it, no big deal AT THAT TIME.

But somehow, the Moron and Moronette-in-training always give us an opportunity to make it hurt within  a couple of days.  They might have plans to go over to a friend's house.   They might have looked forward to watching a lon-awaited movie.  Whatever.   Then, we calmly say, "when we asked you to do X, it was your choice.   Now it's our choice whether or not you get Y.   And we choose no."

Works like a charm, and the wailing and gnashing of teeth commences.   As long as your kids learn the first rule (i.e. Thou Shalt Not F*CK With Mom and Dad), you have a chance.  If not, you're already dead.

Good luck.

Well, he admitted he feels hate for her at this point, which isn't surprising.  I feel apathy, mostly, not sure where the hate came from, unless he feels driven to it by more vocal supporters of hers.

My last post on that dead thread:

Regarding the Palin stuff...my observation after reading this thread is that there's still a big difference between:

"Quit her governorship to become a reality star."

and

"Quit her governorship to avoid personal bankruptcy due to an extraordinary amount of fraudulent ethics charges that needed to be defended."

The reality is probably somewhere in between, but it does no one any favors to continue to insist that one or the other was the True Reason.

In any case, whether she was forced out or quit because it was the path of least resistance for her, it ended her political career.  In general, I think those that consistently stick to the first explanation to at least acknowledge that the frivolous complaints put her in an extraordinarily bad position that was completely undeserved.  Yes, she had a hand in the law that was used against her, but that doesn't justify the predatory use of that law by Dem operatives to ruin her financially.

Thankfully, she disarmed that by resigning.  Despite some of her negatives, I think she's a very decent person that doesn't deserve what she got.  I don't think the person that agreed to run with McCain is the same Palin that is out there now.  I think that despite her attempts to look tough that it scarred her very badly.

The fact that some of it made her embittered, defensive, and obsessive in some areas is an unfortunate, understandable, and completely disqualifying aspect to all of this.

Fantasy, full combat, but soft weapons.  NOT goth/vampire.

Though I would love to see a bunch of each type locked in a room and forced to interact.  Hilarious.

But....you know Lightning Bolt Guy?  I know him and LARPed with him for years. He will probably never live that down, but being ridiculous is what LARPing is all about.  Willful suspension of disbelief that a pouch filled with birdseed is a magic spell is quite a jarring thing when observed by someone uninvolved.
