6 Sorry, I should have been more specific.  I watched the game, but I wasn't really paying attention during the pre-game stuff because I was tending to the kiddos.  I didn't see the flag in the stands.  I only heard the anthem and the fly over.  I love that sound.  The only thing better is the sound of the B-52 readying for take-off.

8 Zoomies play a lot of golf but they are really good at that time on target stuff. A long time ago a buddy told me about a military demonstration he went to at Ft. Jackson, SC. There was some marching, and some vehicles, and a big clock ticking down at the edge of the parade ground. And when the clock hit zero 2 B-58 Hustlers (to give you an idea how long ago this was) buzzed the field at very high speed. They had apparently taken off from Texas.

Is this OT? OK State always honors the military Pokes. Plus one game each year have had military flyover from Vance AFB, Enid. We are very patriotic citizens. Makes me proud.

51 Great post! One the other hand, I was reading about those 3 assholes on the LA to NYC flight that were acting stupid, going in and out of the bathrooms, etc. The feds should make examples out of them and charge them for the jet fuel that it cost to scramble the military jets to accompany the AA flight in. Seriously, some people need the shit kicked out of them. And them some more. And on 9/11 no less.

And not without cause. I'll still side with the 500K figure. That is a big place, from what I hear. Never been there.

It was great just hearing about Americans doing what comes naturally in a crisis, namely helping others in need. It stands as a stark contrast to some other places that set girls' schools on fire and then lock the doors so they can't escape.

105 The meme, at the time, was that Ari was the only one who could afford to protect her.  I don't even know if there was a romance there.  I think he just said, well, marry me and I will keep the riff-raff out of your life and keep you safe.  I can't blame her for any of it, she put up with a lot and then she got royally fucked by life.  If you feel comfortable judging that, fine, I don't.

Posted by: Johnny (John E.) at September 11, 2011 08:49 PM (nRTou) Well, that's because she found out that Saint Martin had organized an orgy the night of his "I Have a Dream (of Group Sex)" speech, and made jokes at JFK's expense at his funeral. We have adopted Saint MLK as a national symbol of tolerance and enlightenment, so I suppose his real life foibles no longer matter. But don't blame Jackie Kennedy for a human reaction to the scum bag the "historical" Saint Martin was.

But any how it doesn't really detract from the Story.

Agreed. It's that uniquely American sentiment and the actions that flowed from it that really count.

We really are different from the rest of the world, as many of these stories relate. It's ironic in the extreme that we're so different from the world's image of us. Of course, their main view of America comes from the news and movies, neither of which have much basis in reality anymore.

Rosemary was a pretty girl who had occasional "emotional outbursts."  So ol' Joe decided to have her brain wacked on and institutionalized for the rest of her life.

The old bastard had his kids' governess in England armed at all times with a camera to record the pretty perfection of his kids.  Rosemary didn't make the cut.
