— Ace I don't think he's "turned" on him. He would still walk on his knees over broken glass for the honor of cutting his own throat to give his master a warm footbath.
Still, he's disappointed, and acknowledging that Obama's got problems, among them (as he notes) a complete lack of any sort of agenda, a lack of any kind of winning campaign theme ("is this as good as it gets," Matthews asks of Obama's presidency), and a lack of interest in and aptidude for the position (Obama is a shut-in, kinda).
Speaking of pop culturally relevant, it's telling that Matthews cannot get over JFK, as just about every criticism is a direct comparison to JFK. ("There's no moon program, no Peace Corps" under Obama, he says.)
You know, given that we're probably not going to be ga-ga in love with our nominee-- at least one advantage is that we won't be turning into blubbering jilted wrecks like Matthews over his college hero crush.

Come on Chris, the democrats have class warfare, pro-welfare, the OWS crowd, and Michael Moore.

Yet, the times don't even call for a great president in the sense we've come to expect (and especially in the sense the MFM and pop culture expects). The times call for a prudent, boring, yet focused and principled man who will simply say enough is enough. We can't spend any more (either in amount or duration).
He doesn't have to be a hero on a white horse. He just has to make the obvious choices before Doom arrives and makes them for all of us. Tingles not necessary.
There will be blood.

Not to be a wet blanket, but to list founding the Peace Corps as a major presidential achievement is pretty pathetic. It's great PR, but come on.
But isn't pathetic that Obama talked about starting something similar, has tons of young people craving gov't jobs and yet hasn't bothered to try to put something in place?

I'm not sure it's his poll numbers specifically- but they definitely seem to think he's one-and-done. They don't want to be too closely associated with the administration which (if the Rs stand up for principle starting in 2013) will be responsible for setting the Socialist agenda back by at least a generation.

His only hope is to stir up a story line on the D side. Get that primary challenge talk humming, exaggerate the prospects of some "independent" third-party campaign, knife Chu, Napolitano and Holder so their replacements can revive and excite the mainstream party. He's already unfolding the Sister Souljah storyline where Obama spits on some expendable losers in a false show of moderation.
If the R wave is as big as expected, MSNBC will be about keeping Rangel, Dingell, Pelosi and Reid afloat in the dark years, and futile attempts oty rehabilitate Grayson, McCaskill, Stabenow and Durbin. At least until Comcast realizes they can lose less money with another shopping channel.
If he's lucky, maybe Matthews can get a gig with Democracy Now!

Barack Obama has passed more far reaching (and awful) legislation than almost any other Democratic President since LBJ.
A $900 billion stimulus, the most comprehensive healthcare reform in the history of medicine, and the most far reaching financial reforms since the Great Depression. Just to name the top three.
JFK had nothing - nothing - comparable to that. The Peace Corps? Okay, one can hold up the moon landing proposal but that still is small potatoes compared to Obama's "achievements".
Again, most of what Obama has passed is awful, dreadful, stupid; but it's far more significant than anything JFK got done.
Matthews' history simply doesn't make sense.
Yeah, there's a setup line for you to hit.....

Chrissy completely misses it (oh, surprise... not). Obumbles IS executing an agenda. And he's being pretty successful at it. The agenda is to take down 'imperial America' while also turning it into an oligarchal socialist utopia.
The second thing Chrissy misses is that Obumbles is nothing more than Soro's lawn jockey. The Doctor Evil of the real world is using Uh-bama as his tool. Has been all along.

#42, Good call on John Edwards, perhaps the most shameless Kennedy wannabe of them all.
#103, of course you are right, but Matthews and other Boomer liberals like him wanted Obama to ACT more like JFK. He hasn't given any memorable "Ich bin ein Berliner" speeches, he's been surly rather than relaxed and debonair around the press, and his big legislative achievements were more in the nature of trying to fix big problems than inspirational to a generation the way the Peace Corps or the Moon landing program were. These Boomers are dreamers, not practical people. They want to be "inspired" like they were as little kids by JFK. They still hate LBJ even though he delivered the Civil Rights Act and Medicare, because he didn't inspire them and instead he sent them all to Vietnam. If JFK had lived and followed the exact same course in Vietnam, the Boomers would still love him and the 60s would have turned out a lot differently.
They were sold a bill of goods by Obama as an inspirational figure, and now they are bitterly disappointed that the only things he has inspired are the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street. I am married to one of these people and he has a bunch of siblings and cousins who think the same way. They still love the "idea" of Obama even though they don't really like anything he has actually done or have much confidence that a second term will be any better.
