— Open Blogger Have you ever had an incomplete thought rattling around your mind? You can almost put it into words but it remains elusively amorphous? Bill Whittle has the uncanny ability to take that pile of mental toothpicks and glue them into an Eiffel Tower of reason. His PJTV Afterburner series consistently produces videos that frame previously elusive political and cultural issues in a logical and informative way. As you watch his videos you will catch yourself nodding your head in approval silently thinking: yes. It is a great series and watching it is like getting a free political science degree (before the Marxists took over the PoliSci dept). Below is his latest offering: The Truth Is Out There. Enjoy. H/T instapundit.

OT - Have I missed anything in the last week? Lost my power during Irene at about 0415 in the morning on Sunday, got power back Friday afternoon but have been without cable or internet until tonight.
I missed you morons.

Very well... Left... you can have your own 'Truth', just not your own FACTS... and a 'Truth' which is not based on Facts, is only believed in via Faith...
Making your 'Truths', ie your ideaology, your Religion...

Oh, the old hypothesis/experimentation/falsifiability thing? That's your "scientific method". You have yours, we have ours.

@14
I think that says a lot about the power of confidence in a objective truth if you are willing to let others see for themselves just how wrong they are. No fences, guns, or dogs required.

I'm going to stick with the tried and true method of calling them an idiot and hitting them until they cry.

If we taught history to our children they would know that the commies have always lied and called it truth.
The truth is what serves the party.

To a point the point he made about being met with derision when presenting facts to a liberal. Completely leaving theology out of the discussion...try saying out loud that evolution is not supported by science. That one's a doozy.

Heh!. You're just taunting Ace now, aren't you?

I'm a polisci student. My teachers are uniformly left of the Democratic party, by their own admission. I find that as long as we're talking about art, life, work and culture, there are some places where we can find a little common ground. And in those areas, they allow me to speak.
But when we talk about the facts, and especially when we talk about the fundamental rules of economics, I get shut down quickly. Even the one true genius leftist professor I have just sort of gets loud when he realizes I'm winning the argument.
Graduating in December, God willing. can't wait. Law school, here I come.

My father escaped one of those 'Workers Paradise'™ type countries.
His goal: get to America and become an American.
The rest is history...and yeah, I ain't going nowhere.
Progressives beware...and, oh yeah...FUBO.
Anywho, happy 'pretend you're a union thug and screw off' day.

First, he says that no American were loading themselves onto makeshift boats and sailing to Cuba, and no East Germans were jumping the Berlin wall.
While perhaps strictly true, both of those statements are false premises. Americans didn't have to resort to such desperate measures to get to a communist country. They could fly their on commercial airliners. And many Americans did, as perhaps a couple thousand have emigrated to Cuba. (Even Grandpa Munster, Al Lewis, spent much of his final years on the island). Likewise, plenty of West Germans, and a few Americans (Like rock singer Dean Reed, the so-called "Red Elvis") found life in East German congenial.
The second problem was that Bill resorted to argument that was based on guilt by association. KPFK runs shows that promote numerology, astrology, and outrageous conspiracy theories?
Really, I thought George Noori and Coast to Coast AM were on KFI, the Rush Limbaugh affiliate in LA.
I'm sorry. This is one of Bill's lazier efforts. There's lots to ammunition to fire at the Pacifica ultra-moonbats, but this ain't it.

You're missing the point. yes, some did..and still do..fly to Cuba..fly...not risk their lives on a raft in open waters...where they're feted and provided opportunities not afforded the regular citizenry.
Many CPUSA members also defected to Russia in the mid-part of last century where they were sponsored and subsidized by the Reds. That was only temporary though.
Many were executed later on for fear of them telling the truth about the situation when they got there.

I think you're missing the point DelD - what he says about the overall vector of immigration and the desperation of those who resort to such means remains absolutely true.
Having said that, I think every discussion about immigration, legal or otherwise, should start with the admission that the nations that are the source of large migrations of people out should be first and foremost identified as "the problem."

That's my exact point. The comparison Bill Whittle makes is inapt. It's a lazy rhetorical trick.
Now, if Bill had brought out some numbers, say 75,000 Cubans moved to America versus the 3,000 commie Americans who moved to Cuba (I just made those numbers up), then he'd have a valid basis for comparison.
I did something like this a few years back, when I shut up some Canadian jackoff, by showing that the average Canadian was nine times more likely to move to America than the average American was to move to Canada.
Whittle doesn't do that. He just shows some picture of desperate Cubans on boats, and riffs on that.
Yes, althouhg he is absolutely right, Cubans are dying to get into America, the quality of his evidence is weak. Hence, he's lazy.

I think you're missing the point DelD - what he says about the overall vector of immigration and the desperation of those who resort to such means remains absolutely true.
And yet, while I'm sure he's true, his evidence is largely anecdotal. He can't be bothered to spend 20 minutes googling up the numbers.
Of course, no one addresses the second point. That Whittle tries to use the evidence of Pacifica Radio's crackpot shows as proof of Pacifica's crackpottedness, while forgetting that Art Bell made himself rich on the back of conservative talk radio.
As I keep saying, this was a lazy effort from Bill Whittle.

Good points Charles at September 05, 2011 09:08 AM,
I thought some of his points were weak also. Bill is a great champion of free market capitalism and I really enjoy listening to him.

Umm. This is exactly the point. The west didn't have to erect walls and shoot people to keep their best and brightest from escaping to the glorious worker's paradise of communism. You're free to go any time you want.

Great job, but don't expect the haters to even watch it. If they do, they'll just tell you why on this one, he's wrong. It's easier just to be on the bandwagon, because they're too cowardly to stand up against their friends.
But, it is funny to watch them wail against the BS crap thrown against their own preferred candidates, and it is only just beginning.
