I think this article sums up my feelings about this show. It's simply not that good.
However, like Allahpundit, I am going to keep watching and do my part for the cause.
It could be worse, like the World Series.

It isn't horrible.
I agree, but the problems are mounting for me.
The fact that they keep sticking with the same vehicles even though there are literally millions to choose from, specifically the winnebago.
How many more times are the writers going to use "the breakdown" of the Winnegbago? It's getting old and obvious.
The gun control aspect, the fact that it took them 7 episodes to realize they could pick up discarded stuff from other vehicles.
The failure after failure of the main character. Literally nothing he has done has worked out for the group.
And worst, the endless talking. It never stops. I am rewatching last weeks episode and it's 95% talking. I counted 4 zombies getting killed. It's a tv show about zombies, or at least it's supposed to be. Shouldn't there be more, you know, zombies?
AP makes a good point. It's more of "All of My Children" with zombies.

I'm wondering if it was for PC reasons.

On the gun training issue, in the original comics they do actually train the other survivors on gun use. Even the kids.

It's the south. I would assume everyone there would be familiar with guns if not proficient with them

Its kind of weird. He fired all the writers and they went to a sort of freelance model like some BBC shows do. And then I think after they finished filming this season or when they do he is kind of quitting at least as the day to day showrunner. I think he'll still technically be the main guy in charge though.

Obama is about to go all EO on the jobs bill that couldn't get passed in his fucking Senate.
Why?
Because "we can't wait" for lawmakers to act.

Big, big fan of the original. Loved it. Great mood, atmosphere, story, characters...fun film made by fresh, hungry film makers and actors and you can really feel it in the execution.
Man, part 2 is such a piece of shit that it's not even funny. Not even the nude scene with the girl with the great big beautiful titties makes up for the pain of watching it.
No story, several deaths occur off screen, Jamie Lee Curtis is barely in it and when she is you hope she gets killed, Donald Pleasance is a addle brained lunatic, no main character of which to speak, no *sympathetic* characters of which to speak...it's like they filmed nothing but outtakes and edited it all together for 90 minutes of garbage. Really, it felt like nothing but outtakes. I think there was another superior film that wound up on the cutting room floor. I never expected it to be as good as the first, but I never thought it would be so bad.
Pure garbage.

Backstory: Mummies were created in ancient Egypt to combat the occasional onslaught of zombies. Mummies don't care for brains; they want your soul. One reading of the ancient papyrus scroll, and they wake up and start harvesting zombie souls. And it only takes a few, because they're about a 1000x more deadly.
That'd be fun.

As far as this show is concerned the article is right. Substitute stupid for sociopath (except for Rick's phsychobitch wife) and start rooting for the zombies.

And you have to read the scroll right, not just that fragment you found.
And you have to stay out of their way.
But when they're working right, it's like commando team of grim reapers. Impossible strength and deus ex machina magic.
They're the only thing zombies instinctively run from. It'd be cool to find one, but watch out. Without an ancient Egyptian sun-god priest, they're like nuclear bombs in the hands of idiots. That kind of thing.
That sounds like a show.

The Walking Dead is a horrible show. Damn terrible.
Its freakin' general hospital with zombies. I mean really, we need the emotional stuff with the kid who was shot? I really care what the moms predictable reaction to her boy being shot.. and to waste 30 minutes on that storyline. What a waste of time. Horrible acting too. The 'stoic cowboy' thing is plain sloppy ripoff crap hoping to make the main character seem 'deep' .. when he's a fucking idiot. An emotional, stupid Clint Eastwood.
The smartest person turns out (by far) to be the brother of the guy they left on the roof. The one everyone was worried about being an impulsive, violent methhead who'd make really stupid and rash decisions... yeah. He's the only one who hasn't made any dumb mistakes and has kept his head
anyway, what a damn disappointment! Now i've got to wait forever before Justified comes back on.. shit! AMC needs some new story writers. Between this, and breaking bad turning into a super Machiavellian game of 5 dimensional chess I cannot take it any more! damn
Check out Drudge right now.. The stupid look on Obamas face makes me want to punch the damn screen. What a clueless fucking asshole

Yet now they can't sense the living. And they seem especially sensitive to sound and light.
Yup.
Well, at least we get long, boring dialogue about "feelings".

The George Romero movies (the first two, at least) were genuinely frightening from start to finish. Every single minute of them filled me with a sense of absolute dread, even when there were no zombies on-screen. Even when the scene was just a few people sitting down and talking. They were truly horrific in atmosphere and tone.
The Walking Dead has no atmosphere whatsoever. It's just a bunch of assholes sniping at each other over their stupid decisions in between the writers' periodic beatings of the liberal stick (we got lectures about racism and AIDS this week). Rick's an idiot, Shane's a sadsack, and Lori is the biggest bitch on the planet. At no point is there ever any sense that we're watching the hellish aftermath of a world that has ended. It's just a soap opera with occasional decapitations.
Posted by: The War Between the Undead States at October 23, 2011 07:43 PM (46U7o)
The zombies shuffle around aimlessly because, well, they're zombies- until they see a live person. Then they can run through the fucking woods like a Kenyan in the Boston Marathon....really? Fucking lame.

This series can only survive if they have 35 minutes of zombie attacks and 5 minutes of talking. Christ tonite they sat around pontificating about life at the vet's place. And the wife is a cunt. I hate her character. She is completely devoid of any accountability and completely incapable to empathize or sympathize. She is a narcissist.
This series is about walking dead not talking us to death.

When Rick says "This time it's different", Doc says "They always say that", as if the appearance herds of flesh eating undead (which happens to represent 99% of the pop.) is just like the epidemic that, despite the left's best efforts, only affected a small group of people (excluding the baby raping tribesmen in Africa.)
Posted by: elliot at October 23, 2011 09:11 PM (vY/HY)
No kidding. They just can't help but beat the liberal drum even after the world has ended.
Yeah, I totally believe that some little kid going to a small school in a tiny town out in the middle of rural Georgia contracted AIDS.

First, (spoiler alert!) a coupler of characters manage to get themselves trapped in a building through a process of insufficient planning and randomly running through alleys. That's drama! We've only seen the characters cornered by their own stupidity two or three times before this - the eighth episode.
Second, when the mother was hectoring the doctor as being unworthy to operate on her son, I was thinking, "Whoa, now here's a woman to be reckoned with." I mean her son is about to die of a gunshot wound but she's willing to give attitude to the only man who can save his life. Now we know she's serious.
Finally, the other mother who doesn't know where her daughter has gone, is willing to go with the flow and leave the last place her daughter might recognize as friendly that's what the plot requires. Plus, they're gonna put a sign and leave supplies. Best thing for the little girl really. You know the writers are planning something awesome when they're willing to ask us to accept something so completely opposite to what we would normally associate with motherhood.
Posted by: jmt at October 23, 2011 11:29 PM (Wbb3T)
Best part is, the writers who shopped the project to Fox had wanted to make Zombieland into a series in the first place; they've been developing stories since 2005:

Now, however, an entire group can pile under cars and trucks without so much as a zombie corpse to cover their smell, while an entire friggin zombie horde walks casually by. And, all they have to do is keep quiet. Lovely, lovely writing this show.

Parts that bugged me:
The redneck's loud ass motorcycle is okay. Gunshots aren't. And that it's marked ᛋᛋ. He finds a way through the snarl of cars! Okay, not really.
The preamble. Just to make sure we haven't forgotten about how hard it is for a mother to have her husband shot, and then her son shot.
Gunshots in season one sometimes didn't attract a herd of zombies, now it's unavoidable, except sometimes not, whatever.
Sobbing about feelings in an apocalyptic setting.
"I'm not normally a praying man, but..." cliche.
Not being able to spot a zombie herd in plain daylight until it's right upon them, with everyone scattered, of course.
No one is being trained to use guns, and nobody uses them anyway.
The suicidal girl who wants to leave sticks around instead of simply taking a car and driving off on her own.
Going googly-eyed for a deer in an apocalyptic setting. The hunter shooting a deer but somehow not spotting three people in the line of fire. (Miraculously, the sound of gunfire doesn't draw a herd of zombies!)
The AIDS talk as if it was at all comparable to a zombie plague that kills 99.99% of humanity. And the boy in a class who got AIDS somehow. That a zombie plague is nature's way of correcting itself, ah-yup. okay.
The mother getting uppity about a vet who is her son's only reasonable chance at survival.
The guy's moronic comments about being singled out because he's black, not because of his incapacitating wound or anything. (Excused by fever, of course.)
I'm now wondering why I bother. Bored on a sunday night I guess.
