— Open Blogger Season two of the best zombie series on TV "The Walking Dead" premiers tonight at 9pm EST 8 Central on AMC. The first season featured people acting stupid when faced with a ravenous zombie threat: "Hey let's set up an undefended camp next to this big bonfire that can be seen for miles." and "Don't use your guns because it attracts the zombies, no not the zombies attacking us right now but other zombies". In any event it should be an entertaining bloodfest.

After one posted a "I love my country, it's my government I'm scared of" I responded that the John Birch Society says, "You kid get of our lawn!"
I think it has also been noticed that Ron Paul! has supporters at these rallies. Let the crazy right and the crazy left gather in one place--so we can see them all for what they are--totalitarians.

They are replaying them on TV now.
I forgot how bad some of the writing was. The first two episodes were fantastic, but then they went downhill from there.
I think the show suffered because AMC hadn't commited to it long term. They were just puting 6 episodes out to test it. As a result the writing was poor and the storyline wasn't thought out.
They never covered what happened to Merryl's brother or explained that helicopter.
I hope since the series was renewed that they put a little more time and effort into the show.

Also, something that bothered me about the show is that it's kinda like a video game in that they seem completely unable to pick shit up.
For example, there are probably 1 million RV's in the US. They can't abandon the one they have for a functioning one? You can't find a replacement hose for it when the highways are filled with cars?
There are 200 million guns in America and in season 1 you were fighting over a bag full of shotguns with the "vatos"? You know what I call a bag full of shotguns, part of my gun collection. So apparently they can't find any guns in the entire city of Atlanta or surrounding areas? Also, those ma-deuces that were lying around everywhere in Atlanta, you didn't think to pick one up? Instead you're going to go with pistols and cross bows?
It's the impracticality of it that pissed me off so much last year. You have a country that has enough resources for 300 million people and they can't find the most basic things?

Well, the helicopter didn't need to be explained. Some military activity was still going on that was all.
Yeah but you knew they threw that in there as something they would come back to later if the series got picked up.
You don't throw something like that into it and not go back to it. Also, it contradicts what the guy at the CDC said. He was convinced everyone was dead, but apparently a few days prior there were enough people to fuel, maintain and fly a helicopter.

Was the helicopter in the comics? Did they come back to it ever? Sooner than they have in the show? I know they're using the comics more as a guideline than a line for line storyboard for the show, but they are of course going to include many visuals from the comic.

Critics have openly asked why a black, or at least an American, artist was not chosen and even remarked that Dr King appears slightly Asian in Mr Lei's rendering.
Mr Lei, who has in the past carved two statues of Mao Tse-tung, one of which stands in the former garden of Mao Anqing, the Chinese leader's son, carried out almost all of the work in Changsha.

Better, it was carved by a proud commie who is on permanent retainer by the ChiComs and has carved many a statute for them. With stone cut from a quarry that likely uses slave prison labor. I mean, can you fucking imagine? We didn't even use American stone.

There are two kinds of Zombies. The Undead and the Rabid.
With Rabid, the brain is still alive and can perform maintenance on the body and decay doesn't happen. Higher brain functions are gone, hence all they do is look for food.

The clothing thing was stupid. The only way I can make it work is if this was the first time that the group has gone into the city since the outbreak, and up until know they've avoided population centers.
Of course, it begs the question why they haven't made a run to the local Home Depot or Wal-Mart. Even a small town will have something, not to mention a local auto shop or parts store. And the number of zombies around should not be enough to overwhelm a group that is prepared.

I bet that Doc told the leader of the survivors that eventually the virus will turn them all into zombies, when he whispered in his ear.
I thought it would be that his wife was pregnant with the other cops baby. If you remember the doctor took blood samples.

The key to suspension of disbelief is to get the small things correct. It's easy to accept the premise of an alien invasion or a zombie apocalypse as long as people act as you would expect them to in those situations. Contrary, a romantic comedy can get away with having people do stupid or bizarre things because it's set in a world that is easily believable. You have to give people a reference point to work from. This, of course, is why I hate the way the military is portrayed in film.

So here is the plan. Dig a camp. Create killing zones. Have a company tanks run around buttoned up and squish the zombies as long as the diesel holds out as the zombies run toward the 'noise'. Not even a .50 cal will go through Abrams armor, so have the camps put out suppressing fire around the tanks. Next day, move to a different part of base and repeat.
THERE IS NO WAY A GROUP OF SHAMBLING, UNARMED, ANIMATED DEAD CAN TAKE OUT ARMOR. PERIOD.

The Walking Dead suffers from the same problem as Falling Skies; all the survivors are really, really stupid.
The first clue came in the first episode when the sheriff (really?) dumps the heavy SUV in favor of a horse to ride into a large city full of zombies. Because, you know, riding a slower live spooked animal with no metal protection is always a good move.
It pretty much went down hill from there.

No. Trust me. When you button up a tank, you may have less visibility than you would like, but nothing short of explosives opens up a tank from the outside. And 68 tons makes a squish out of people it runs over without slowing. And the support weapons, 5.56 etc, will not go through the armor. Plus the loader's and TC's weapon can be fired from inside the tank. Just roll forward at 5 mph and they run at you and you fertilize the grass.
But like someone said, the apocalypse seems to have killed the ones with functioning brains first.

I said this last season but...why the hell, if the zombies are attracted to noise, didn't they just set up a row of wood chippers at some choke point and stand back and watch as they march themselves in? Problem solved!
I hope this season is better than last...too much love triangle and social issues...in a show about zombies...dumb. It can never be just good clean fun...always have to use it as a platform to push their failed and dead social philosophy.

Yes, but aquaculture will take time to setup. I've read that the harvesting of spiny lobsters is restricted due to overfishing. I think they may have other overfishing problems there as well.
Now with a much reduced worldwide population, the fish stocks would rebound probably fairly quickly.

McCarthy is so spectacularly overrated I can't even measure it. I loathe the whole equation of bleakness with depth. Heaven knows that I'm all for a wee bit of the old ultranihilism but there's no there there with what he writes.

470 452: 45 minutes of commercials, 20 minutes of long conversations about sub-plots we could care less about, 15 minutes of soliloquies by the main character, 10 minutes of little kids being plot points
I thought I was imaging all the commercials. it was really bad the last 45 minutes. 5 minutes of show, 5 minutes of commercials. Then a totally f*cked ending.
It's starting to become like Survivor, Sudden Death. With the most annoying people given immunity. (Exactly like the stupid tv show).

Later, when they are "re-appearing" in the present after flying back through the time rift, they make a point of stepping back against a wall in the terminal so that they don't bump into anyone as they materialize. They stand away from foot traffic areas. Hopefully the huge jet plane they arrived in was able to stand against a wall too as it reappeared on the tarmac.
There were several others, but these glaring ones are all I can remember right now.

From that I assume that the virus/plague slows down the decomposition process to a crawl but the elements don't play favorites. So, I would think the 7-12 year 'longevity' would be more 'realistic'. As for the cause of the 'plague' Romero (at least) made it ambiguous; it could be whatever you wanted it to be: a virus, a bacteria, radiation (as suggested in Night of the Living Dead '6
As for finding ammo lying around, I would probably pick up an M16 or Baretta from a dead soldier and use it until the ammo runs out. The problem is what if you're off the beaten trail? Finding rounds for a Baretta would be easier than finding ammo for an M16. Plus hauling an arsenal on your back is a pain in the ass even if you're used to doing so. I'd probably stick with something I would be likely be able to find rounds for like a 12ga shotgun or a .38. Those types of rounds are fairly ubiquitous.

Wrath of God is the only one that makes any sense. No virus, bacteria or radiation could explain walking with no heart beat, breathing, blood pressure, etc.
Unless you do the Rage virus scenario, where the zombies aren't really zombies, just supper pissed off / aggressive but mindless plauge victims who are alive by every medical standard.

Then again, if we allow that the dead can come back to life and suffer all manner of injury and still be mobile, I guess them running is not too far fetched.
I've always joked that all you'd need to survive in Romero's zombies 'universe' is a baseball bat & not getting surrounded. As in every zombie creators 'universe' it isn't so much the 'dead fucks' you have to worry about - it's the living ones.
At least with the dead ones, you know where they stand.

Heh. I know a lot of zombie purists were pissed about Zack's running zombies, but to me, it never seemed like a big deal.
First, if the dead can walk, running, although slightly implausible, doesn't seem impossible.
Second, his zombies definitely had that evil, mindless, remorseless hunger for the living that made the shambling dead so scarry too.
It's not the speed, or lack there of that makes zombies scary.
It's their inhuman, mindless remorselessness in pursuit of the living.
Posted by: ed at October 16, 2011 11:31 PM (Y2WVW)
Something I dislike with TWD is that you have to be bitten in order to die and become a zombie. In Romero's, if you die for any reason, you come back. To me that is more frightening a prospect, somehow.
Posted by: Glenn Frey at October 16, 2011 11:37 PM (2DuGp)
That's what vampires used to be until they became sparkling Fire Island enthusiasts. This is one of the reasons I adore the, "30 Days of Night" graphic novels and films.
Vampires aren't suave, debonaire or effeminate Sissy Marys but blood thirsty monsters that would rip you apart and smile while doing it.

Yeah...that was spooky as hell.
Because it says that no matter what, no matter how you struggle and fight against it...you come back as what you fear.
Yeah, you can suicide via a head shot, or have your friends take care of you after you die... but that is just accelerating the human death, zombie rebirth, final death cycle.
Posted by: ed at October 16, 2011 11:52 PM (Y2WVW)
Also, even if you found a group of survivors, how could you ever be safe? People die in their sleep all the time. What if you went to sleep with your wife/girlfriend and they die, come back and you wake up with them over you ready to take a bite?

Well, I'd say that if zombies really were in apocalypse mode, it would indicate that God had turned his back on the world, and that all of us were damned, it was just a question of how long our damnation would take.
