From Mrs.O.org:
I was rushing to get ready for class today when a manila envelope slid under the front door of my apartment. I'm accustomed to the whoosh sound of takeout menus passing through, and assumed this was the same. Was I wrong! As I picked up the envelope, and saw "White House" typed in the return address corner, my heart began to race. I grabbed scissors and carefully snipped one side, intent not to damage the contents with a haphazard tear. Inside I found a brief, lovely note from the First Lady, signed "Michelle Obama". Needless to say, this note has more than made my day. It is an absolute honor to hear from Mrs. Obama, and her sentiments make it all the more meaningful.
......
This is an awesome song that needs to viral:

Loosely grip it between your forefinger and middle finger and do a wobbling motion at your wrist. It doesn't so much twirl as it gives the illusion of twirling.
Works for drumsticks too!

Can you help me out? I have a 3.5 year old and a 5.5 year old that I have taught to read, write and do basic math.
The other day we took them to the movies, and were getting a bite to eat at the food court before it started. Before I would buy my 3.5 yo a pop, I made her read the ads that were on the table. When she needed help with a word, her brother would help her.
A guy sits down at the next table and proceeds to takeout his phone and face it towards my kids. (He was trying to slyly record my kids)
I jumped up, told him to stop or I'd break his freaking phone. The guy said, it would be a splash on You Tube.
My hubby. told me to sit down before I hit the fucker, made him erase it.
My question: Is it legal to record my kids without my permission, even if we are in public? Is it legal to put a vid of my kids, without my permission on You Tube? What if a member of my family tries to do it? Is the law different then?
I have to run a few errands, but I will check back. Any answers or whatever is greatly appreciated.
Thanks - from a mom that would do anything to protect her kids.

This is President Barack ObamaÂ’s personal favorite [beer]. How this brew somehow became a beer is a bit of a mystery. All beers start with a wort or the process known as worting. Yet, somehow this beer did not. It is totally wort-less, and yet unaccountably, it is a rather extraordinary Braggot!
“Wort-Less Braggot” is said to be a refreshing compliment to all foods. Yet, in this reviewer’s opinion, “Wort-Less Braggot” is far from refreshing and tastes old, skunky, and stale as though bottled way back in the 1930s or 40s.

LOL.
Well, I kind of know what you mean. The past two homes we've tended to keep quite a bit pretty liquid, but I think maybe too much. Looking at what we put into the California house over the 4 years we owned it, most of the expenses were voluntary (upgraded lighting, flooring, that sort of thing). I'd say less than $10,000 was mandatory and even there we could have done some things more cheaply (such as repairing rather than replacing a fence with vinyl). So I'm thinking really we've only needed a couple of grand each year, plus maybe keeping a chunk for something big like a roof or a HVAC thing. So maybe $10,000 is enough? (I'm not talking about the cushion for other sorts of unexpected shit - just for the house.)
BTW, this is funny. We had no capital gain on the house. We got a check, but it's not a capital gain relative to what we'd paid for it. Because of that, none of the home improvements (or whatever the hell they call it in tax lingo) can be used to reduce our tax burden. Had we made money on the house, they would. I'm trying to figure out what kind of sense that makes.

Posted by: Papa Editor at March 06, 2011 10:52 AM (YX6i/)
Y-not, that's a tough question.
It would depend, just for starters, on how quickly you want to upgrade stuff that isn't actually broken. For instance, our 25 year house could use all new facets. And the bathrooms have dated counters and tub/showers.
Not going to do anything about it this year. Must replace fence. Really need to start on replacing windows.
Another factor is how cheap the original work was. Our Texas house was only 12 years old when we bought it, but everything in it was the cheapest version of crap and none of the 4-5 (!!) previous owners had upgraded a thing. With better quality stuff, we would have spent a lot less fixing and updating.

Anyway, one day she didn't want to bother coming into the post office with me to do some boring errand, so she stayed in the car and listened to the radio. When I came out, some seedy guy was parked right next to her jerking off -- I saw him, she didn't. I drove outta there and we're idling on the street in front of a bus stop. An equally seedy guy leers at her and exclaims, "I LIKE that!" He leans over and takes her picture with his cell phone.

The one protein I work with forms structures big enough to view under EM - its one isoform looks like a large barrel.
I wonder if there is enough residual material within these meteorites to do some kind of elemental analysis of the alleged bacterial fossils. That would be more conclusive than subjective EM images.

However, if you can show that an improvement would have normally added capital value to the house it should be considered a capital investment.
Replacing carpet and painting is maintenance. Adding a new room is capital improvement. Somewhere in between those two things lies a boundary.

"We're looking for very talented software developers," said Susan Harker, director of global talent acquisition at Amazon.
Other openings call for recruiters, product managers, salespeople, graphic designers and supply-chain analysts.

Approximately 1 MDa. As for symmetry, well, it forms ring and chain-shaped structures - the precise symmetry of this structure escapes me at the moment.
I was thinking energy filtered TEMs might be useful, but the sample prep could be tricky and I confess I'm ignorant about what the nature of a fossilized bacterium would be.
I am too. If somebody could find bacteria in a meteorite that is in its spore form vs a vegetative form, it might be hardy enough to do the elemental analysis you suggest.

That EM data was collected awhile ago. This protein has some very interesting oligomerization properties; I did some work several years ago characterizing point and domain mutants of this protein to try to tease out portions of the protein responsible for its self-association properties.
In hindsight, I sometimes wish my thesis project was based more around structural studies rather than the immunological tract that I took, although the immunology angle is very interesting in itself - just a pain at times with bio-activity studies and such.

The Vikings settled in Newfoundland briefly, 500 years before Columbus. It's not a matter of serious dispute anymore. (Er, the science is settled.)
Check out L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland. IIRC, there are some other settlement sites too. The Vikings don't get credit for "discovering" the New World though because their contact wasn't the start of sustained relationship with Europe. Columbus' was.

Did you know about the caucazoid skeleton that was found in the 90s? It was said to predate the arrival of the Indians. Clinton's administration scooped it up and then turned it over to the local Indian tribe under the premise that all ancient bones belong to them.
The theory was, that ole Bill was taking care of his constituents. Wouldn't due for people to ask too many questions about how original white boy died and why there were none left. Might make the cry of victimhood a bit sticky.
