It actually is a pretty serious question as to how a Muslim chick like Huma could have married a Jew who hadn't converted to Islam.
Technically speaking, if Weiner really didn't convert, then Huma should have been beheaded by now.
Unless maybe the Muslims think that Huma is such a good intelligence asset that they don't want to blow her cover.
[BTW, most people who have studied the matter believe that Grover Norquist secretly converted to Islam when he married his Muslim wife.]

Sarah I bet can make us kids some great Cheese Whiz sammiches, but even "Skeezicks" Obama would do a 49 state sweep on her.

I don't think this country needs a president with a poorly balanced head that requires a giant pillow to sleep on. I want a well proportioned president that doesn't need a larger than average pillow. I want to look at my president and think, "Hey, if he ever showed up at my house and needed a place to crash I got the perfect sized pillow for him." And he'd be like, "This pillow is so soft! Dude tomorrow, just for you...tax cut!" That shit would be so cash.

Posted by: mark c at June 22, 2011 05:57 AM (SBIko)
I really think it was for three reasons.
1. Personal ambition - I don't think he really believes he'll win the nomination. I think he thinks that he has a shot at being given the VP slot. This is a guy who may have won the governorship in Utah (although my bet is that was primarily owing to the esteem Utahns feel for his dad), but for the most part he has had made his career off of appointments (ambassadorships, WH positions), not elections. To give you insight into the guy's personality, his hatred for Mitt stems from Jon Jr. expecting the SLC Olympic Cmte to hand the reins over to him, without him applying for the job. Mitt beat him out for the job which is why the mom and Jon Jr. hate Mitt.
2. Hatred of Mitt - see above. This will not work, imho. The people who know him best (Utahns) chose Mitt 3:1 over Huntsman in a head-to-head POTUS poll a few months ago. His Lt. Gov., Herbert (now our governor), has made it pretty clear he's not endorsing Huntsman.
3. Desire to push the party to the left - I think he finds the conservative/tea party crowd "distasteful." He was quite comfortable settling into the Obama administration. He would be more upset if Bachmann won than if Obama won re-election.

It's not a very good strategy by Soros et al, if that's what it is. I would think they'd have groomed some governor with no direct connections to the administration as the plant. That could have worked. If they picked some "moderate" (read: liberal) Republican governor, the admin could have spent the past couple of years helping out that state so the gov would look good. Annointing that person as the Great GOP Hope (only to know that the person would run an even more anemic campaign than McCain) would have been a great strategy. Perhaps that's what they'd planned to do with Charlie Crist.
I'm sure they're happy Huntsman is running, but I don't think they planned it.

Is it any surprise that talking heads on both sides of the aisle are touting this guy as one of the few serious contenders? T-Paw and Romney being the others, Bachmann and Perry not even in the conversation.
Fuck it. Perry/Bachmann 2012. Sarah on the cabinet, I don't care where.
Posted by: arhooley at June 22, 2011 06:11 AM (cSLvr)
Yup!
When his name was first floated, several months ago, I was willing to consider him. I thought a candidate who had been a successful governor and had left the Obama administration could have conducted a powerful campaign against Obama. It seemed like on paper Huntsman had the foreign policy bases covered that our other governors/former governors lacked.
But after reading up on him and talking with a lot of Utahns and seeing that Salt Lake Tribune (complete liberal rag) is pushing his candidacy... well, he is clearly a cravenly ambitious prick.

He hates him because of the Olympics. There was an in depth profile of Huntsman in some place like Vanity Fair (I know!) a while back explaining the animus. I wouldn't take it seriously except that I've spoken with several people in the know here in Utah who confirm the basic points. The mother is apparently a nasty piece of work as well, so she may be egging Junior on. The sad thing is that the father is by all accounts a wonderful man. He's given away $1.2 billion to charity (not just to the Church, but to schools, hospitals, and the like) while his net worth is a bit under $1 billion.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I think that Romney is a person of basically sound character. His policies may be wrong, but I basically respect him as a person (doesn't mean I want him to be President). I think Mitt has handled the personal attacks on him over his faith with dignity. Unlike Huntsman, Mitt doesn't spend tons of time back-pedaling from being a Mormon. (If I were a Mormon, I'd be utterly disgusted by Huntsman Jr's behavior.)
Huntsman, in contrast, is a really opportunistic weasel. I've spoken with folks who worked on his campaigns who really felt betrayed by Huntsman over changes in positions that he made after being elected. The school choice issue was one in particular that really lost him support.
Romney is really well-respected here because of what he did with the Olympics. I've only met one person who did not sing Mitt's praises over how he brought them back from the brink of disaster.

Huntsman has no chance to win the nomination. If there is any sign of a "danger" of that, I think conservative candidates like Cain and Bachmann will drop out so that Perry will get the nomination handily.
Posted by: Y-not at June 22, 2011 06:34 AM (TFxd0)
Jon Huntsman loves him some Barry O. Oh wait, he was just trying to be nice:
In an interview after his presidential announcement Tuesday, former Utah governor and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman tried to downplay a letter he wrote to President Barack Obama in August 2009 calling him a "remarkable leader."
Huntsman told Fox News that he was only alluding to the fact that the president would appoint a Republican to "a position as important and sensitive as the U.S. ambassadorship to China."
"You are a remarkable leader," Huntsman wrote in the note, which was leaked to reporters earlier this year. He underlined the word "remarkable."
Asked if he was referring to the president's policies with those kind words, Huntsman claimed that he wrote the letter "early in his administration." http://tinyurl.com/6c8bqcm
Judgment. It's other name is Huntsman.

But when that fails, what will he do for a job? I mean, most of this guy's career comes from his family connections (from Jon Sr's global chemical company). I'm sure that's why he got the various WH trade appointments. If he runs as a spoiler, he loses all support from the GOP - possibly even loses his dad at that point as I'm pretty sure Jon Sr is a conservative (Sr's business partner, Bob Gay, certainly is). No more sweet appointments. He'd be a pariah in the GOP, in Utah, and possibly in his own family and his usefulness to the Democrats would be over.
The guy's psychological make up is that he never wants to have to work for anything.
I still think his primary motivation is for the VP slot.

I think the "Rich Kid" psychology play right into a third party run. He is NOT going to be the Republican nominee, he never has to worry about where his next vacation home is coming from, and the media attention (especially the way the MSM will fawn over him as a "reasonable" Republican) will turn this guy on. Families rarely ostracize to the point of disinheriting a son or daughter over politics. He will couch this as an attempt to appeal to the centrist and attempt to paint the Rs as outside the mainstream with all of the heavy lifting done by the press. They will LOVE him, solely as a means to protect their boyfriend. And beleive me, he will have myriad opportunities both withe the Dems, and as a pundit or "statesman". The MSM adores "Republicans" who show disdain for conservatism.

Obviously I don't know what's going on in that family, but it's not just politics. Junior spends a lot of time proclaiming how un-Mormon he is.
His dad is a respected member of the LDS Church (maybe even an Area Seventy or something). Junior clearly is not. I think the double whammy of enabling an Obama victory and being an asshole anti-Mormon to boot (don't forget, this guy just hired someone from Huck's team for pity's sake), knee-capping the favored candidate [Mitt], might be enough to do serious damage to his relationship with his dad. His mom: probably not. But I'm guessing Jon Sr. controls the purse strings.
It'll be interesting to see whom Bob Gay (Huntsman Sr's business partner at Huntsman Gay Global Capital) supports. I saw Gay speak recently. He seemed really conservative. And, he was Mitt's mentor, I think.
