Time For Another Lame Season of SNL

4 Look, I know this phrase has been said in one form or another countlessly over the past 10 years, but who gives a fuck about SNL anymore? Someone call me when this steaming pile finally gets cancelled.

Posted by: fiatboomer at September 25, 2011 01:48 PM (BhmMp)

5 screw SNL, did anyone catch Blue Bloods? They were clearly attacking Obama with this new mayor character, who plays the race card against Tom Selleck, then Tom Selleck calls him a 'community organizer,' and then rather than compromise the mayor retorts by saying, "I won the election, boy." Well, the boy part was implied, but it seemed a clear reference to Obama's "I won" d-baggery. Oh, this community organizer mayor also has contacts in the DOJ he uses to hush up his connection to a major scandal. So yeah, nothing as edgy as SNL making fun of Republicans, but worth watching nonetheless.

p.s. Blue Bloods also ended with a line making fun of Bloomberg, as Selleck isn't allowed to smoke a cigar outside, and he complains about the "'nanny" in charge.

Posted by: Adrian at September 25, 2011 01:50 PM (PY4xx)

6 Selleck is a pretty conservative guy isn't he?  I remember O'Donnell going all psycho on him when she had a talk show because of Columbine and he's an NRA member.

Posted by: buzzion at September 25, 2011 01:52 PM (GULKT)

7 Good catch on Blue Bloods; I was in amazement when the douche did the "I won" line.

Even during the so called glory years, I thought SNL was wildly overrated and watch Second City afterward.

Posted by: Captain Hate at September 25, 2011 01:52 PM (OGZqf)

8 Does anyone still watch that show. It ceased to be worth a shit decades ago.

9 I'd watch Alec Baldwin get his Communist Truther gonads kicked to jelly by ornery mules, but little else.

Good catch on Blue Bloods; I was in amazement when the douche did the "I won" line.

I know, I wasn't sure I was seeing what I was seeing when I watched the season premiere of Blue Bloods. The mayor parts and the nanny part at the end more than made up for having Tony Bennett on. Though I suppose it was shot before Tony Bennett made his crazy stupid remarks.

And, yes, I don't understand how anyone watches SNL anymore. I guess if you are a member of the liberal tribe it is obligatory along with Stewart and Colbert so you can appropriately parrot back what you are supposed to think and find funny.

Posted by: ParanoidStillAGirlinSeattle at September 25, 2011 01:59 PM (RZ8pf)

11 I watch snl but FF through any mention of the GOP, the only reason to watch those parts is opposition research, as it's a DNC sounding board. But, since the DNC calls up Rush with seminar callers every week, I already know what the latest DNC talking point is anyway. Vini Verdeci and What's up with taht are good sketches.

17 >>Kind of obligatory to link it.

I guess it's obligatory to link to it if you live in NYC.  I am blissfully able to completely block out the NY "media/tainment" industry.

My poor husband is in NYC this weekend.  He's been describing the scene looking out his hotel window (which is somewhere on Manhattan's East Side) and says it looks post-apocalyptic out there.  Such a jam of cars (mostly cabbies) and people and garbage and filth.

The biggest US city I can handle is Chicago.  The lake and parks save it from being too horrendous a cavern and the trash is mostly of the blowing around from the wind variety.  Not so much grime.

The biggest world city I enjoyed was London, but that was just three days and my home-base was Kensington, plus I had a friend as a guide.

25 It was never even half as funny as Flying Circus, the series that inspired it. There were a few sketches over the years that made you chuckle (Eddie Murphy's vehicles like Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood and James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub were fairly good, The Ambiguously Gay Duo was laugh-out-loud funny). But even Kids in the Hall was better on average than SNL.

34 completely, utterly, totally off topic, but I have absolutely nowhere else to post this as it will insult many, many people I hold dear. A childhood friend posted the following quote from that fucking genius, Stephen Colbert: "If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition, and then admit that we just don't want to do that." What a steaming pile. The New Testament doesn't say the first thing about rendering unto Caesar so that income can be redistributed. I asked my friend whether is Colbert saying that his religious beliefs - Christianity - should drive federal policy? Or is he saying that the body of believers should do as Christ calls and care for those who are in need? My church has just, for a week, put up 120 people who were displaced by horrible local flooding. They used our locker and shower facilities, we housed them in our gym, we fed them in our cafeteria. When I put my check in the collection basket, I know EXACTLY where it is going and I am giving very cheerfully. There is a huge difference between that and the government turning me upside down and hitting me with a stick to get every last nickel. ahem, rant over.

42 My older kid has been watching old SNL episodes on Netflix -- the original cast back in the cocaine-addled days -- and they're funny. They actually made fun of ridiculous stuff, without checking first to see if it was approved by the Party. They weren't court jesters and gatekeepers for the powerful.

I'd love to have the chance to appear one night in Lorne Michaels's bedroom as the Ghost of Comedy Past and tell him what a sycophantic sellout he's become.

As Ronpawl pointed out, people were taken care of before huge bloated government spending. But for liberals like Colbert, "help the poor," now means bloated government. Again, the ignorance and the assholery of the left knows no bounds. As they lose, last election and in 2012, they're only going to act worse and worse. Imgine Madison, Wi in every state captial. "help the poor," = waste billions of dollars on union thugs.

That's why, when they publish the tax returns of famous libs, their charitable giving is negligible.   They believe that it's the government's job.  Are there no prisons?  Are there no workhouses?

Posted by: ombudsman at September 25, 2011 02:34 PM (AxHOT)

48 SNL would be a lot funnier if it was actually funny. My two cents.

Posted by: Durka at September 25, 2011 02:35 PM (QjrRF)

49 The level of sheer wilful ignorance among liberals is sometimes shocking. This afternoon I overheard a couple of older affluent lib couples talking about how the "Tea Party people" want to destroy Social Security.

That's a lie. Simply and completely a lie. But they believe it, because they've been told it over and over again by the brave truth-tellers in the media.

And I think at some level even the libs who repeat this garbage to themselves must know that it's a lie. When they repeat these lies, it's not one another they're lying to, it's themselves. They're desperately trying to convince themselves that they're smart high-status people for voting Democrat, and that anyone who disagrees is low-status and evil.

It's been shown time and time again that conservatives give a thousand times more than libs.  They talk a mean game, but back up nothing.  They all have the "let em eat cake" mentality, but blame everyone else for there being poor people.

Posted by: ©Sponge at September 25, 2011 02:37 PM (lk3Dj)

51 Most liberal's 'charities' are tax shelters. 98% of the money goes to "overhead" when all the checks are cut to themselves or family members. No different than Hollywood's use of dummy corporations to declare all movies as money losing business entities to avoid paying taxes.

"Paying taxes is patriotic" for the little people, but not for them.  Just another layer of hypocrisy a la Buffet.

My favorite Lorne Michaels story is when Elvis Costello first appeared there.  Costello wanted to do a song that Michaels said was too long and made him change it; I'm thinking the stupid cocksucker was really obnoxious when making his demand rather than a request because when it came time to do it, Elvis fucked him over by changing back to the original song.  It was one of the rare times that I was watching the POS show and I noticed that Costello really seemed to be intense while playing when they broke for a kumurshul; turns out Michaels was giving him the finger just off camera like a pansy twat which made EC bear down harder in response.

DAVID GREGORY, HOST: Back in 2002, you said Israel has had no better friend in the White House than George W. Bush. Would you say the same about President Obama?

ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU: They've all been great friends of Israel. You know why?

MR. GREGORY: You said, "No better friend in the White House than George W. Bush."

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: When did I say that?

MR. GREGORY: 2002 on this program.

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: OK. Well, they keep moving. They keep adding new people to--you know, that's the peculiar thing about our system, the leaders, the leaders keep changing.

MR. GREGORY: So George W. Bush and President Obama are equivalent in your mind.

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: God, I'm not going...

MR. GREGORY: I'm asking--no, but I'm asking you a serious question.

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: I'm not going to start ranking. I'll tell you what, they're all...

MR. GREGORY: You did rank. But, Prime Minister, you did rank. And you said that America was behind you; and, in fact, this has been a frosty relationship between this administration and your administration. And the reality is that there's politics in this country and a presidential campaign. Just this week, you had Mitt Romney, a Republican, say of Obama that he threw Israel under the bus. Rick Perry described Obama's Middle East policy as naive, arrogant, misguided and dangerous. Do you disagree with those statements?

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: David, you're trying to throw me under the bus of American politics. And guess what, I'm not going to be thrown there. So I'll tell you what...

MR. GREGORY: You didn't mind disagreeing with President Clinton's analysis this week about the Middle East.

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: Sure.

(Anyone remember reading about Clintons' blaming Bibi for not getting the peace process he wanted?)Guess one is not allowed to defend themselves from a lie

MR. GREGORY: Do you disagree with these Republican candidates?

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: I think the important thing to understand is this, and, and this is the truth about America, Israel enjoys tremendous bipartisan support, tremendous. And, and, and, you know, you just have to walk around the breadth and length of this country, it's--or fly, it's a big country--and everywhere you go, you see this tremendous, tremendous sympathy and affinity for Israel. This is what, I think, is one of the great blessings that Israel has in the, in the 21st century. So--and I think that bipartisan support is expressed by any person who happens to be the president of the United States...

MR. GREGORY: Are you concerned that partisanship is being injected into this?

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: ...including President Obama. Every one of the U.S. presidents represents and acts on the tremendous innate friendship of the American people to Israel. And by the way, a piece of news, Israel is the one country in which everyone is pro-American, opposition and coalition alike. And I represent the entire people of Israel who say, "Thank you, America." And we're friends of America, and we're the only reliable allies of America in the Middle East

Dave:  Sorry to break the news to you but the Social Security money is gone, plundered from the treasury.  The donk's changed the rules in the Johnson administrative (IIRC) and the SS money has gone into the general fund since the late 1960s.  Neither party has displayed the required spending discipline and the federal government is broke.

At some point, a bunch of folks are going to screwed out of their SS "investment" and receive nothing in return.  The donks are just trying to kick the can down the road long enough so they don't get hung from lamp-posts by an angry electorate.  Thus, the "We're not broke, Social Security is fine" mantra from the leftists and their ignorant followers.

150 Wiig, as usual, was pure genius as Bachmann: going with repression fits the family picture. Sudeikis wasn't half bad as Mitt, with that kind of bemused look of condescension that says, "I don't know who's responsible for this act of kindness in putting up this travelling circus of third-rate clowns for me to 'compete' against, but anyway: Thanks!" The rest were weak cardboard, almost seeming designed to prop up the Sudeikis take on Romney. That's NOT what happened: each of Santorum and Cain had a pretty strong evening, and Romney had to work pretty hard for his result; also, the furthest thing in the world you could accuse Gingrich of was leaving the stage - he was the most substantive and very arguably put in the best performance. Baldwin was truly awful. This show is going to be on for a number of months, and if SNL keeps throwing him up there as Perry, it will only be as propaganda. If they want to go for the jugular, they're gonna have to reach out for someone like Darryl Hammond - and even then, they'll have to send him to the gym for few months. But don't underestimate: this crap is what a lot of the yutes and even more of the low-information independents watch.
