But lawyers have a way of getting their cut regardless. First they shop for a court with a complaint judge, then they stack the jury with idiots who are predisposed to "punish" evil big buisness.

Federal Government Teaching Farmers to Participate in ‘Carbon Markets’ that Don’t Exist Yet
The U.N. health agency says world leaders will discuss efforts to clamp down on junk food marketing to children when they meet in New York on Sept 19-20.
The World Health Organization says heads of state will use the U.N. General Assembly meeting to talk about limiting the number and type of ads that children are exposed to.

Pirates may use hostages as human shields
Recent successful raids by military may cause pirates to resort to new strategy.
Somali pirates took a record number of hostages last year, but 2011 has started off with navies freeing hostages from two seized ships and killing eight pirates. Some naval forces are taking a tougher line, analysts say, but the pirates may up the ante by using hostages as human shields more often.

Interesting comment.
Marco Rubio is an extraordinary, young man, and although he will make whatever adjustments are necessary to solidify his positions on issues, he will remain foused and he will continue to stay on course without deviating from his primary objectives.
He didn't give up his carefully cultivated, esteemed reputation in the Florida State Legislature to pander to any fringe groups. He intendes to be an honorable member of the U.S. Senate, of that you can be certain. I reiterate; he is a fine, young man ...., and you're right on another count; i.e., he is a leader, not a follower ....., unlike Michelle Bachman, who apparently doesn't have enough self confidence to realize that she doesn't need the support of the Tea Party; i.e., they need her more than she needs them, imho.

I made this point when Bachmann started the tea party caucus. It is pointless.
Our goal as conservatives, libertarions, Tea Partiers, etc should be to TAKE OVER the republican party. Not create a new seperate faction that competes with the current party.
We don't need a Tea Party caucus, we need a conservative Republican party.

Chinese web users are acclaiming pianist Lang Lang’s choice of tune for a White House state dinner given in honour of President Hu Jintao – a patriotic theme song from an anti-US war film.
The 28-year-old Chinese virtuoso, who divides his time between China and the United States, has given no indication that he was aware of the nationalistic tinge to his choice at last WednesdayÂ’s dinner entertainment.
But web users in China hailed Lang Lang as a true patriot for playing “My Motherland”, the theme of a famous 1956 Chinese film called “Battle on Shangganling Mountain” set during the Korean War.
The movie of the Battle of Triangle Hill, as it became known, features Chinese troops enduring huge hardship before reinforcements arrive and rout their American enemies.
“It’s deeply meaningful to play this in the United States, but I don’t know if the Americans can understand? Ha ha,” one web user said on leading portal sina.com.
“You really voiced our thoughts,” another wrote. “We do not want to see war, but we are really not afraid of war, and to defend our homeland, we are really not afraid of any great powers.”

The logic here is that the Russians would be "threatened" by a dozen or so missile interceptors near their borders, so to compensate, they'll deploy an overwhelming number of ICBMs (probably at least half their mobile ICBMs) near the European borders. Hell, they'll do it anyway, but threatening the US like this (and if Obama caves), they get the best of both worlds- no missile shield and an excuse to park some nukes near Europe.
/In the end, there will be only chaos.

Careful, like I said, keep up with that and you might as well let the arguments for the other side stand -- America, England, Spain, India, Israel...they all asked for it too no doubt.

The new effort comes as many large drugmakers, unable to find enough new drugs, are paring back research. Promising discoveries in such illnesses as depression and Parkinson's that once would have led to clinical trials are instead going unexplored because companies have neither the will nor the resources to undertake the effort. Drug companies have typically spent twice as much on marketing as on research, a business model that is increasingly suspecy.
This is perfect. The government is now trying to replace the drug companies.
Keeping cost down by making it impossible to sue the drug maker government. Tort reform by another form.

The Tea Party did not get Marco Rubio elected. Get real.
He was already way, way out ahead in the polls long before he was endorsed by Tea Partiers, who endorsed him for strictly self-serving reasons - to give themselves credibility, not to help Rubio.
Rubio is a dynamic, young man. He got 52% of the vote in a 3-way race, unprecedented in Florida, drawing, in fact, votes from Republicans, Democrats and Independents, alike.
A footnote to which is that Rand Paul was already way, way out ahead in the polls in Kentucky long bedore he was endorsed by Tea Partiers to give themselves credibility, also.

AP reports:
Putin showed up at the blast site shirtless, riding an elephant, with a hunting knife clenched in his teeth, to personally assess the damage. He organized a response, sewed a couple of limbs back on to people and used his elephant's trunk to help douse the fire. He then promised prompt and swift justice. He was last seen on his elephant chucking home made spears at random Chechens. Sources say he is headed for the Chechen border.

A civilian airport isn't a legitimate military target.
And neither is a schoolhouse (Beslan) or a Moscow opera Theater.

They leveled areas of Chechnya with no remorse. Then the Chechens were absolutely barbaric in dealing with grade school kids in "retaliation". It's hard to find good actors in this other than innocent civilians.

My Dad was up near Point Barrow on maneuvers when it was around -70. He slowly poured out a canteen and it formed about a 10" icicle. He held the mouth of the canteen to the icicle and it froze to it. Looked like something from a cartoon. We have a slide of it somewhere.Posted by: Ed Anger at January 24, 2011 06:11 AM (7+pP9)

I see it like the Eastern Front in WW2. The world would be better off if they'd both lose. Still, on the whole, the Russians, despite their massacres in in Chechnya, are still several times more desirable than any collection of the Muz anywhere on earth. If there is to be war of extermination, which sometimes is the best long term solution, then it should be clear which side we ought to come down on. Compare the details - the depraved inhuman savagery - of the evils done by the two sides, and the Muz will come out as the greater evil. Russian troops, at least non-Muz ones, would not be capable of doing what was done in Beslan.

Sorry, suicide bombers among innocent people at airports is terrorism--quarter given or asked is immaterial.

Death by artillery shell seems to me a damn sight better than death by gang rape. A Russian soldier shelling some Muz rat hole is no different from US bomber crews dropping incendiaries on Dresden. The Nazis running the concentration camps had more self restraint and human compassion than the demoniacs who carried out the Beslan horror.
Posted by: Reactionary at January 24, 2011 06:22 AM (xUM1Q)
Beslan was a monstrous atrocity visited on innocent children who were raped, starved, tortured and murdered for no reason other than their captors didn't know what to do when their initial plans fell apart. Absolutely nothing condones or lessens the impact of such soulless violence, no matter HOW vile Russia's treatment of the Chechens has been (and it has been vile).
Whether this airport bombing was the act of Chechen rebels (as far as I know no one has claimed responsibility yet) or some other crazed group or individual, I want the perpetrators caught and treated to the BEST of Russian prison hospitality. If it's one part of an organized attack, then I hope the Russians are able to thwart it and bring the planners to justice. I'm not fan of Russia's policies, politicians, and a fair few of its people, but I prefer to focus on those Russian citizens who AREN'T commie-loving, dictator-worshipping sycophants. They DO exist, just not so's to make the news.

Fair point. As for the religious enthusiasm of the Chechyns prior to being oppressed, I can't comment due to ignorance. But I'll say this - they suffered no worse than the Ukrainians under Stalin - death by starvation is nothing to be envied. Yet no one has claimed that the Ukrainians turned to child molestation & murder for revenge.
Regardless, the Muz are a plague world wide, and bring nothing but ruin wherever they are. To take their side in any conflict is to choose the greater evil.

147 So it is good and just to support a bunch of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists because they targeted the "right" civilians this time?
Even though their connections with the Islamic fundamentalist terrorists who targeted our civilians are well known along with Chechen support of those actions?
I'm afraid I am incapable of feeling good that 1) innocent civilians just got blown up; 2) they got blown up by an enemy that would do the same to me and mine. The only time I am happy to see Russia "slapped" is by us, or our allies...but never by people who I consider to be a mutual enemy.

Phoenixgirl:
The Tea Partiers did not create that wave. The Obamas, Pelosi, Holder, Clinton and other sleazy Democrats created that wave. The Tea Partiers just rode the crest of that wave, feeling important, because they received a lot of publicity from the irresponsible tabloid MSM.
Strong candidates won. Weak candidates lost. The Tea Partiers didn't have any discernible effect, except that, in some respects, they did more harm than good (and they continue to be a pain in the ass, believing that they are more influential than they are). They and their leaders are ditzy amateurs. The selection of candidates should be left up to knowledgeable, wise, qualified and experienced professionals - not a bunch of bored, restless, ditzy and lonely housewives, who gave us Christine McDonnell, Sharon Angle and their ilk.

@196
Strong candidates won. Weak candidates lost.
Winners won and losers lost? That's some profound stuff right there.
The Tea Partiers didn't have any discernible effect, except that, in some respects, they did more harm than good (and they continue to be a pain in the ass, believing that they are more influential than they are).
How can you possibly think that a movement that galvanized people to become involved politically, both as volunteers/voters and as candidates, did not have an effect on the last elections?
Mike Lee only won in Utah because of the Tea Party movement here. There was another candidate, more establishment-oriented, who also challenged Bennett, but Mike Lee won. Statehouses across the country flipped red.
I think you are rather naively focusing on a couple of high-profile races that did not go the way conservatives wanted and forgetting about the moms and dads, grandfathers and grandmothers, and college students who were motivated to become motivated - rather than apathetic - because of the Tea Party. Sitting congress-critters were afraid to meet with them - or did meet with them and made fools of themselves - thereby affecting their re-election hopes. And some pols have begun to talk the talk about fiscal responsibility -- time will tell if they walk the walk, but at least there's some acknowledgment that the people want to stop the ridiculous cycle of taxing and spending.

If anyone wants my opinion on Rubio, I think it has to do with not wanting to be told what to do by Jim DeMint, who if I remember correctly has said some intemperate things.
Just watch Rubio's record. If he does something squirrely, then we can make a fuss.

Well, it had to happen. The lawyers have discovered globull warming
Just when we thought sanity was going to prevail the shysters have discovered a source for revenue growth. They have joined the 2nd largest group in the swindle, crooks looking to profit.
PARIS — From being a marginal and even mocked issue, climate-change litigation is fast emerging as a new frontier of law where some believe hundreds of billions of dollars are at stake.
Yeah, just what we need.
Compensation for losses inflicted by man-made global warming would be jaw-dropping, a payout that would make tobacco and asbestos damages look like pocket money.
Is this a Jimmy Buffet song? Sharks to the left, sharks to the right,Â….
In the past three years, the number of climate-related lawsuits has ballooned, filling the void of political efforts in tackling greenhouse-gas emissions.
Finally beat off most of the crooked politicians and now the lawyers are getting into it (redundant I know).
