Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Yesterday I got a little suspicious about the Louisiana second hand law story. Seven million blog posts about it and they all linked back to one and only one tv news story. Lack of journalism from other media or was there more to the story?

Link in my name to a blog that got a little more info from the writer of the law. Within the story is a link to the first blog that seems to have more info. (I just found this blog easier to read so that's what I'm linking.)

It's not the most clear clarification evah...I'll keep searching for more info when it appears...

Here is the actual bill

Here is the actual law. We know the intent was to cover pawn shops etc. However, if you look at the actual definition of the applicable "dealers" it could be applied to anyone selling used goods.

Does anyone think cops wouldn't apply it to someone they were after at a yard sale?

Posted by: Ed Anger at October 22, 2011 05:36 AM (7+pP9)

31 I have no doubt that the government would like to ban ALL cash transactions. They already require reporting any transaction over $10k. Just think of all the nifty databases you could build and search through to find owed taxes. Or, they might just want a detailed dossier on anyone's likes/dislikes right down to which brand of nipple cream you prefer.

Just like the OBlaBlaCare act, which requires doctors to submit everyone's med records to the gubmint in electronic form.

I think they thought by saying it only applied to those selling more than once a month it would exempt yard sales.  But "once a month" is open to interpretation too.  Does that mean one day or one weekend or one group of consecutive days?  Most yard sales run two days or a weekend...and flea markets too run much longer than one day or more often.

That piece in the sidebar by Artur Davis about Alabama's voter ID law is HUGE.  Needs its own post.  He is coming right out and saying there is massive voter fraud in the black communities and he has heard people bragging about it and even been asked to help pay for it.  Davis has always been a guy that has bucked the black Establishment and I'm sure he is going to get threats and intimidation for writing this article, but it is high time someone did.

If we can get a voter ID law passed in Pennsylvania, we may never see another Democrat elected President.  There are more registered voters in Philadelphia than there are people, and most inner-city precincts consistently report a 100% turnout in Presidential elections.  Nobody around here believes the numbers that come out of Philly are even remotely honest, yet nobody does anything about it.

There has to be a balls out GOTV effort, voting straight ticket. Unless we have an unassailable majority in the House and Senate, nothing worthwhile can happen.

Time to genuflect again, LA.  Your Deity graces you with his presence:

Obama arrival Monday will be at rush hour

President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive at LAX on board Air Force One between 4:30 and 5 p.m. on Monday, the White House just announced. This means that however he moves to the Hancock Park area for Democratic campaign fundraisers at the home of producer James Lassiter and later at the home of Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, his travel will fall during the peak time for cross-town traffic.

The White House also confirmed that the president will stay overnight in the area, then tape an interview with Jay Leno for Tuesday's "Tonight Show" before departing from LAX mid-morning for San Francisco and Denver.

65 The last GOP administration had priggish silly boys like Rove and Frum as opinion shapers. Think about that, and add to the mix some seriously misguided neo-con policy.
One way or the other the GOP as we knew it (dominated by the Rockefeller/Bush types) is going the way of the dinosaur, and that will be a positive development so long as a viable replacement evolves from a conservative movement before The Republic goes over the cliff.

66 Vic has a spokesman:

"Where's the Conservative Republican in the Debate?"
by  Roger Hedgecock

Cooper's job included using Obama attack lines.  Take ObamaCare.

Not one question about Fast and Furious.  In an effort to blame gun ownership in the U.S. for border violence, a program budgeted by Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder allowed thousands of guns to be illegally purchased in the U.S. and disappear into Mexico to arm the already dangerous Mexican drug cartel.  Not one candidate spoke up.

Not one question about Solyndra.  About crony capitalism.  About Obama's inaction on the Keystone XL pipeline.  Did the candidates think that Cooper would ask questions that would allow them to attack the most failed record of our times since Jimmy Carter?  If not asked, why didn't the candidates act like conservatives and bring up these topics themselves?

Only Perry dared to stray from the question to state a case for oil and gas drilling to create jobs.

The first primary is less than two months away, but the election is still 13 long months from now.  When will the Republican candidates insist on a moderator who will let the voters hear more than 30 seconds of attack sound bites.

Voters deserve better.  Voters want to hear how each of these candidates would act to free the economy, limit government and restore the blessings of liberty.  Maybe next debate.

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the defense of justice is no virtue." - Barry Goldwater, 1964.

There's a wide lattitude of what  free people can believe and keep their freedom, relatively speaking.  But being "moderately" tolerant of a government that is bent on eviscerating the Constitution, and finding that there is one particular political party that really believes, this , and then realizing that "moderate" Republicans like Arlen Specter have spent a well-paid career enabling this, gives me pause when considerating "moderation".

It's my life, isn't it? Who else will give a damn about "my life" more than I? But no, let's be moderate, and maybe we'll be fed to the crocodile last, or we won't be rounded up for re-education when the time comes with harsh words, just "please get on the bus for the re-education camps."

My teenage children are a little too young to actually understand all that is at stake, so I can forgive them their lack of life experience that makes one totally skeptical of "moderates" who have only the best of intentions. Of course, "moderates" are always more agreeable. That's why they are moderates.

And the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

67 Polynikes,

Defiance against the tyranny of being forced to be 'reasonable'.....is in the air.

Yet the Republican 'moderates' and elitist squishes refuse to see it.

Since they don't mind caving in to the demands of the Dems....why can't they cave in to the wishes of the 75% who do not want Romney as their candidate?

If the establishment Republicans force Romney on us, by manipulating the primaries and buying the nomination for him....then they are the ones who will be to blame if Obama gets a 2nd term.

They are forewarned. People will stay home if Romney is the nominee. This is no big secret. This is why Romney lost last time.

Posted by: ConservativeMenAreJustHotter at October 22, 2011 07:06 AM (OEMhx)

78 If the establishment Republicans force Romney on us, by manipulating the primaries and buying the nomination for him....then they are the ones who will be to blame if Obama gets a 2nd term.

The Romneybots complain about people saying they will stay at home and they have nobody to blame but themselves. As I have said previously 70% to75% of the general polled people hate him and 90 to 95 percent of the conservative base hate him.

So do not be surprised if 4 or 5 percent of that base sits it out, particularly if they have no other Statewide elections. In a State like VA if 5% of the base sits it out Obama will win that State.

So if you don't want an Obama second term, do not vote for Romney.

Posted by: Vic at October 22, 2011 07:15 AM (YdQQY)

79

77....Right, Macintx.

He was a weak candidate in '08 because people saw through his flip-flopping squishiness then, as they do now. People were saying back then..."If Romney gets it, I will stay home".

So we are in agreement. I just eliminated a few of the connective dots in the interest of brevity.

If anything, its even worse now......because of all the current Class Warfare and anti-corporate rhetoric. Romney has made millions off of being a corporate raider and killing jobs. No one is really saying this now. ....The Dems are saving it for the general.

82 Had to pay her back for mowing my lawn yesterday.

So, not only didn't you tell her "Get off my lawn" at gunpoint.  You fed her.  Ha, I knew it.  Moderate, squish, you are not of the body!

I don't have a Garand so I can't do that.

84 Over at Politico the loons are crowing about Rubio's supposed "lies" about being from a family of Cuban refugees.

Apparently they (conveniently) define "Cuban refugee" to mean only those who left Cuba AFTER Fidel declared himself a Marxist, ran show trials that led to mass executions, and expropriated property from "the rich" (defined to mean anyone making over 250,000 pesos, I guess).

No mention of giving up going back to Cuba because you might never be let back out, or of deciding to stay in America because you rightly "fear persecution" (Obama's Aunti Zetuni and Uncle Omar spurious reason for arguing they should notbe sent back to Kenya), or of just not wanting to live under Marxism.

No, they think they've "got him".  And, of course, the Birthers are saying Rubio is not a "natural born citizen", using crabbed interpretations of that term, never adopted by any statute or court holding.   Nikki Haley and Bobby Jindall are equally not NBCs, doncha know....

85 Nikki Haley and Bobby Jindall are equally not NBCs, doncha know....

Nikki Haley was born in Bamberg, SC.  Except for a brief period that has always been part of the United States. So, she is a NBC.

I remember the Ronulans arguing that McCain wasn't a NBC during the 2008 campaign. That level of idiocy gets old in a hurry.

87 Moderate Republicans think that we should be reasonable....and cave in to the Dems demands.

Moderate R's and the Dems are marching in the same direction.  The only difference is the their rate of speed .

88 Even if the drummers had some of their stuff stolen, would it really take $8,000 to replace it? Sounds like they are padding the bill.

85"Nikki Haley was born in Bamberg, SC.  Except for a brief period that has always been part of the United States. So, she is a NBC."

Vic, the birther "argument" is that she and Jindall, like Rubio, were born in the USA to legal immigrant parents who were not yet US citizens.

Inane, I know, but that's their story, and they're sticking to it.

The OWS whack jobs in this area are visibly hooking up with unions for more protests. One is asking for a parade permit . . . at rush hour.

Thinking about making some signs and going on down. "No More Solyndras"

"Green is a Code Word" "Oppress This" "Better Red than Dead" "Tear Down This Camp!"

95 Vic: Why don't you have an M 1 Garand? Everyone I know has at least one.

Posted by: CMU VET at October 22, 2011 08:40 AM (F+1Cp)

96 If I had bought one back in the 60s when you could still order them from Sears it would have been cool. Now they cost too damn much.

I used to have an M1 Carbine but even those now are expensive as hell.

97 What I remember was about $75 for one NIB still with cosmoline on it. If you could find one like that now it would go for well over a thousand. Inflation would put $75 at $540.

99 More on that mass-resignation of Bachmann staffers in NH.  At least one of them has gone to Perry's team

Is Michele still denying it happened or has she caught up with the news?
