SC Rep Primary in Court

Four S.C. counties Monday asked the state Supreme Court to make the Republican Party pay for its cherished first-in-the-South presidential primary in arguments that raised questions about the authority of state government versus the publicÂ’s access to elections.

If the Republicans lose the case, state GOP chairman Chad Connelly said it is likely to put the primary — set for Jan. 21, just 10 weeks away — in jeopardy. Losing the case would require the party to use paper ballots, which is likely to cause trouble with the federal Department of Justice, which must approve the election, he said.

Now that truly is BS. Why would the DOJ give a shit about paper ballots? The last Republican primary runoff had paper ballots.  And no, the DOJ doesnÂ’t have to “approve of the election”. They only have to approve changes in election law.

 

But in making their argument against using taxpayer money and resources to host the primary, the counties harkened back to the Jim Crow era, when lawmakers made primaries a private function so as to exclude black voters — at least, that’s how Chief Justice Jean Toal saw it Monday.

The primaries should be a “private” function you idiot. And the court ruling against the Republican Party in making them “open” is based on the fact that the State provides support for the primaries and therefore can determine if they are open or closed.

The State needs a new reporter.

I've only played it for about six hours and, of course, I immediately wandered off the main storyline, so I have no comment on that. As far as gameplay goes, it's good. They took out many of the things that bugged me in Oblivion and streamlined others. The thing that's getting the most attention is dual wielding and it is very cool. Graphics are excellent, though they've toned down the bright colors, as compared to Oblivion. It looks a bit more like the Morrowind color palette.

As for whether it's kid-appropriate, that's on you, Pops. The opening scene includes an execution on the chopping block. It's not super-detailed or anything, but you do see the head roll and the body slump. It's a violent game.

He surely doesn't want Cain to implode so completely that he drops out of the race this soon, leaving his supporters to go to either Gingrich or Perry (hopefully). I have less of a problem with violence than with sex in video games. My kids grew up in the Middle East, and violence was part of their lives, it couldn't be avoided. But we tried to explain why there was violence, and when it should be used-ie war, defense of one's life, family and friends. They understand it. Good. I think (hope) that if this thing gets down to even Mitt vs. 2 not-Mitts (Gingrich and Perry) instead of just 1 not-Mitt, Romney may be toast. Mostly what Gabe said about Skyrim.  There's a lot of blood in the game.  I've played for probably around 12 hours and barely done anything with the main quest (I think 2 dungeons and a few errands).  Hell, I haven't made it much outside of the area of the map you start in (though that's changing).  The game *will* suck down time.

It would be interesting to see what obama's support is among the minorities who are not black. Something tells me it is cratering there as well. After all, Obama's black support is in the 90's, but his non-white support is 67%. Maybe not cratering, but at least diminishing.
